A Devil in Scotland is a good fit for readers looking for a historical romance with a focus on forgiveness, desire, and the exploration of second chances in a slow-burn relationship.

I ended up DNF'ing the book. It might've been that I wasn't in the right kind of mood, but I just couldn't connect to the story and writing with this one. Feel really sad about that, because I was expecting to dive into a good historical romance. But this sometimes just happen to me, that I for whatever reason, just can't connect to a book and I don't want to push myself to finish it and to HAVE to give a rating because that just doesn't work for me.

So I'm a bit bummed that when posting a review here on NG now, I have to give a rating because it doesn't give a good representation. I haven't finished it so that's reason enough imo for not rating it because how can you rate a book that you haven't read in its entirety? Quite unfair. I would've preferred to being able to skip on rating it but alas.

I went with 2 stars then in the end because 1 just isn't fair to the author and I just can't in good honesty give it more than 2 because I just haven't finished the story. But truly, the 2 star rating doesn't say much though because in my opinion, I just leave this book without rating it.

A Devil in Scotland follows Callum MacCreath's journey to maturity. It starts in 1806 with his brother planning to wed childhood friend Rebecca "Becca" Sanderson. Callum is drunk and furious, realizing too late that he harbors feelings for Becca. Due to his behavior, he is cast out of the house and makes a life for himself in America (making whiskey).

Ten years later: Callum receives news that his brother is dead, and he has inherited the title. Becca is beyond surprised to see Callum again, and she is most concerned about her daughter (Margaret).

Callum is trying to put the pieces together of how his brother died, followed shortly by Becca's father dying. Something smells off about the timing, and Callum must investigate.

However, he forgot how much he enjoys Becca's companionship, her fire, and her wit. Soon he must choose between love or vengeance?

This is a great slow-burn/second chance romance novel. The added mystery element was delightful and keeps the story moving well. Steamy scenes are throughout the novel, but it does take a bit as the hero and heroine haven't seen each other in 10 years and didn't leave on the best terms.

Well worth the read!

Yet another overdue review(I’m sorry!!), but I really enjoyed this one. I’m always a sucker for a good historical romance and this one was right up my alley.

A DEVIL IN SCOTLAND - Suzanne Enoch

#3 in the No Ordinary Hero historical romance series

KEPT MY INTEREST - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Callum had a close friendship with Rebecca until the moment that his brother decided to marry her. After an argument, Callum leaves the country under a cloud and starts a new life in America. After hearing about Ian's death, however, Callum returns to discover the truth and becomes embroiled in much more than he anticipated.

Writing - 4 stars - I was caught up in the story right from the first page. The characters were well-built, and I was drawn into their lives easily and comfortably. The use of Scottish brogue, especially for Callum's conversation, set the tone for the location and the times but remained easy to read and understand. The book moved forward quickly and easily--a very pleasant read.

Characters - 4 stars - Callum is hot-headed and intimidating, but underneath he's got a kind heart. I loved the strength and determination it took for him to become successful after leaving Scotland, which also served him well when he decided to investigate Ian's death. Rebecca has lived a very happy, but calm, life. After her husband's and father's deaths, she was grateful for the help from Maxwell and Stapp, never questioning their friendship until Callum opens her eyes. I don't fault her for that since women of that time period were expected to let men lead, and despite her monetary worth, she didn't look beneath the surface as Callum did. But when push came to shove, she showed courage and bravery. The most telling moment for me was when she recognized that Callum was acting as though he couldn't stand being away from her romantically; her previous experience had been that Ian cared for her, but nothing beyond that.

Title - 4 stars - Because of Callum's unusual eye color, plus the fact that he has a wolf as a sidekick, many people think that he is a demon or devil returned to his homeland from the wilds of America.

Cover - 4 stars - A typical cover for this genre, but the bright jewel-tone color really catches the eye.

Overall - 4 stars - This was a very pleasant and enjoyable book, somewhat out of my usual comfort zone since it is set in 1800's Scotland. I particularly enjoyed the characters--Callum's strength and purpose, and Rebecca's loyalty and bravery. Maggie is a delightful young lady with a mind of her own, and she provides some entertaining scenes. Even Waya (the wolf) is an interesting character, providing protection and support while creating some fun conversations about wolf packs. The fact that I haven't read either of the previous books in this series didn't factor in at all; this was clearly a standalone and had no open questions. All in all, I enjoyed this book and will look for more from this author.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

Suzanne Enoch never disappoints. A Devil in Scotland was just like her other series with some suspense mixed in with the falling head over heels for each other.

I'm a REAL sucker for Scottish heroes and this just hit the spot in terms of romance. I'm not usually a second chance love trope kinda girl either but I thought it worked well. The romance was solid, but not super steamy for me.

I finally got a chance to checkout A Devil in Scotland by Suzanne Enoch, and I have to say that I love Callum MacCreath. He's so swoon-worthy. At the beginning he had a wild streak that cost him the loss of the girl he loved. He was a little too slow to the gun and lost her to his brother. Callum was also good at causing trouble, which got him banished from his home. This helped him grow and mature. He also never planned to return to Scotland, but life has other thoughts. Now we have Rebecca the girl that broke his heart. However, she's in the dark on what is afoot. She believes that Duke of Dunncraigh is honorable, but deep down she's not sure about it.

I really enjoyed this story, but I'm going to advise that you read these stories in order and not go the route I did which is going backwards. I mean the Duke of Dunncraigh is a pretty shady guy and you will see this in previous stories. I did enjoy that Callum and Rebecca eventually work together. However, Callum has some serious disbelief that Rebecca was on the up and up, and was in the same league as Dunncraigh. Rebecca's daughter is ADORABLE in this story. She kind of makes the story. I would reread this story because of the daughter. Feisty would best describe her. Overall, a really good read.

This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, Callum and Becca. They have a past. Callum left and Becca decided to marry his older brother. Now Callum's back and Becca is a widow. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

Ten years ago Callum left the Highlands and now he is back to avenge his brother's death. Its like a second chance romance. Rebecca made a sensible choice of marring the reliable elder brother. But now after his and her father's death she becomes a part owner of the business and whomever she marries stands to gain a lot.
Mags her daughter and Waya the wolf were wonderful side characters.

The epilogue had characters from the previous two books in the series. Apart from that this can be read as a standalone

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.

I absolutely adored this book. Becca and Callum have an explosive and undeniable chemistry.

When Becca's engagement to his older brother is announced, Callum throws a fit and leaves home.
Years later he is back and determined to avenge his brother's death. What he hadn't counted on was falling for Becca once more.
This was an interesting mystery/romance that I couldn't put down. I loved seeing Becca and Callum together especially how easily their romance flowed.

This was a fun story set in the beautiful land of Scotland. It is a romantic drama of Callum, a once wild young man turned still wild but more sensible adult, and Becca, his childhood friend (and crush). Reunited after 10 years apart when Callum's brother, who is also Becca's husband, and Becca's father die very close together, and Callum returns to his home to find out what happened, sort out his heart, and seek revenge.

I really enjoyed this story. What I loved most about it was the lack of drama in the romantic relationship, compared to similar novels. There was some tension, but it was resolved quickly, and the story revolves around the mystery of the murders, and bringing the “bad guys” to justice. It is always refreshing for me to find a story that is relatively drama free (SOME drama is required, of course!). I enjoyed it very much, and it was my first book by this author, and made me want to read more.

I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ohhh my, what a read! It isn't every day that we read about brothers lusting after the same woman and actually getting that same woman. Definitely, a twist that is unique and the telling of the story was immaculately told. I highly recommend this fiery read to anyone who enjoys romance and second chances.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. This is my first book by Ms Enoch but not my last. I loved the characters in this book. The story flowed from beginning to end. The H/h blossoming relationship was believable and fun to read about. The secondary characters were fun and gave the story a wonderful flavor.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have to start with this book was AWESOME! I have to say that while I liked the first two books in the series I honestly could not put this down. Callum is a wild child who is hurt and becomes a wild devil of a man. I loved him so much. The story was so good and I loved the romance. AWESOME!

Callum MacCreath has always had a thing for Rebecca “Becca” Sanderson. When Callum hears that his own brother Ian has proposed to Becca, Callum’s feelings come to the forefront and he can’t deny what he feels for her. When he tries to tell her everything goes horribly wrong, Becca, the Duke of Duncraigh, Callum’s clan and worst of all even Callum’s own brother Ian banishes him. Callum leaves never intending to go back to Scotland and has made a life for himself in Kentucky growing up into a hardened bitter man. When Callum hears that his brother has died under mysterious circumstances he realizes he must face what has happened to his brother much less face Becca, the girl he has been secretly in love with. Of course when Callum gets back to Scotland he can’t help but question everyone including Becca who killed Ian and why?
The story started off pretty strong and the story was interesting. Yes I like good second chance romances especially when there is a lot of history going on with the characters. Obviously these two had enough baggage that it would take a while to work through everything too. In the beginning I couldn’t help but not like the hero Callum. He was impulsive and a man whore I couldn’t wait for him to grow up. When he did I was still unsure of him. I didn’t like how he treated Becca. Yes I understand Becca hurt him but he was really hard to like. Becca bothered me on so many levels that I also couldn’t figure her out either. Plus the internal dialogue of both kind of bothered me. I think what made me excited about the story was the addition of Waya and Margaret. I seriously just loved them both and did think they helped me like the story that much more. Still I enjoyed the book and would read another by Ms. Suzanne Enoch!
