Leah has been living in Cloud Bay all her life. She is producing music in the Harper family’s studio and happy with her life. There is nothing that Leah wants more than landing a big name to skyrocket her producing career…and now that Zach Harper has returned to town, he would be the perfect person to do it. Leah has known Zach Harper her whole life and has even had a night with him on her 18th birthday, but that was before he became a world-famous Rocker.

Zach is back in Cloud Bay and hoping that he can record some solo work while his band is on a break. He thinks he’s put the past behind him, but he has unresolved issues with his ½ sisters and the beautiful Leah, he left behind.

Leah and Zach both quickly realize the burning passion from the past still burns brighter than ever. Deciding on a friends with benefits relationship, it is soon evident that the new circumstances are going to end in heartbreak and might just destroy careers.

Zach puts his desires above his family, his friends, time and time again, all for his career. What happens when everything you've been looking for stares you in the face but you have to pick one dream over the other?

No Place Like You is one of those feel good, second chances romance that put a smile on your face and keeps you wondering how often two singularly minded people could be so oblivious to what is right in front of them.

In the end, I found No Place Like You to be easy, enjoyable and serving a good dose of humor/angst.

I received this ARC copy of No Place Like You from St. Martin's Paperbacks. This is my honest and voluntary review. No Place Like You is set for publication Dec. 5, 2017.

No Place Like You by Emma Douglas is a slow burn second chance at romance story. It is the third book in the Cloud Bay series about siblings and friends centered around rockers.

Leah has always had feelings for Zach. They had one night when they were young and then Zach left to follow his dreams. Leah moved on and lived her life, but never forgot Zach. Now she is ready to move forward in her career and wants to become a music producer. But would producing Zach’s solo album be smart when she still has feelings for him?

Zach is the son of a famous (and deceased) rock star. His band is no longer together, and he is ready to move on with a solo career. He comes home to do this and is in search of help. But when an old friend with history offers to help, he brushes her off. He wants big names to launch his career. Zach initially comes off as a jerk and is not always easy to like, but as the story continues, we begin to see changes in him.

It has never been a secret how Leah felt about Zach and even though she knew he was leaving all those years ago, she wanted that one night with him. Even so, she was hurt when he left and never looked back. Now Leah and Zach are now working together. Can the find a way to find success despite their history?

This was my fist book in the series and though I have not read the others, I did not feel lost. There does seem to be interconnecting stories, family and friends, however, readers are left satisfied with the story. I enjoyed this second chance at romance story. It was a bit slower, but kept you intrigued enough to know how it all ends.

I am trying to put together my thoughts for this review. So far there are three books in this series which all can be read as standalones, but the plot weaves between all three books and I’m not certain that a reader would really be able to follow the story as well if this were the first book of the series to be read. I did read the first book in this series, so I had a decent understanding of what was going on. Interestingly, I felt the same way about this book as I did the first one. The plot was interesting and the characters enjoyable, but I never really felt the emotion of the the H/h for their HEA. This book is a solid 3 Stars for me. Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this for an honest review.

No Place Like You by Emma Douglas
Cloud Bay #3

On a small island off the coast of California lies Lansing Island and where the ferry lands is the town of Cloud Bay. A small island brought to the world’s attention by a rock group that settled there and created a venue for the annual rock festival “Cloud Fest”. One family, the Harpers, is at the forefront of the island and of this series – at least so far. In book one Faith Harper falls for tennis player Caleb White and breaks all of her island rules to achieve a HEA that thrills both of them. In book two the story of widow Mina Harper and whiskey distiller Will Fraser find love. And, in book three Zach Harper comes home to lick his wounds, make a record and get a second chance at love.

Leah Santelli has worked with her father, Sal, for years and has begun to make a name as a sound mixer who has aspirations of producing records. She has been married and divorced and perhaps has always treasured her one night of passion with Zach. Now Zach Harper is an entitled wannabe rock star. He is part of a ban that suddenly finds itself on hiatus for at least a year and all the members are scrambling for what to do next. Zach has opted to write songs that will push his career forward IF all goes well. Being back home for him is a mixed bag…still rather entitled, a bit at loose ends, still driven, sometimes unable to see beyond his own needs and yet…as time goes by he does seem to begin to realize how his past behavior might have impacted others. The question, in the end, is what will prove to be most important to Zach and whether or not his second chance with Leah will become more than a no strings fun time for the two of them.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

What's it like to grow up as a musically talented son to a big rock star? To grow up believing the music is the only thing that matters? Zach has treated his friends & sisters like crap in his quest for stardom but insists he isn't like his father. He was single & everyone knew he wasn't staying around. He did feel guilty about bailing on his sister though. Now his band mate has bailed on the rest of the band & he gets what it feels like. He's decided to come home & see if he can produce a solo album. That means he has to apologize to his sisters & make amends.

Leah had a crush on Zach for years & finally got him to notice her on her 18th birthday. Then he left the island. Now Leah is earning a reputation as a sound engineer in the studio, has been married & divorced & is ready for another challenge. After hearing Zach is back to try to create a solo album, she wants the chance to produce some of his songs. Can they get past the awkwardness of being together again? Can they keep their hearts from being involved? Will Zach bail on everyone again?

I enjoyed this third installment of the Blacklight kids. While it is part of the series, it can be read as a stand alone. The characters are well developed & complex. Zach has moments where he comes across as an egotistical player but also moments where he is vulnerable. As a reader, I could sense the times when his father, Gray's, attitudes & influences crept in & affected the scene. Leah was a little too willing to put herself on the line & needed to learn her wants were just as important in the relationship. I can't wait to see what we find out in book four!

I really enjoyed this fantastic second chance story! This entire series has been great and this book is a perfect addition as Zach Harper finally returns home to Cloud Bay. The story is wonderfully written and I adore these characters. And the surprising ending gives us hope for another book in the series!

Zach knows that going back to Cloud Bay during his forced hiatus will have to come with making amends with his sisters, especially Faith. What he never expected was to be reunited with his one love Leah Santelli and how his life and fhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/edit/33574158-no-place-like-you#uture would be changed by that reunion.

Great read that I highly recommend.

Zach Harper and his sisters are the children of Grey Harper, late leader of the band Blacklight. Since Grey's death, his former bandmates and his three grown children have all, in various ways, been struggling. Zach has spent the last year playing for a new band. The youngest sibling, Mina, has gotten married after some hardships of her own, and middle sibling Faith is planning her own wedding.

A friend of the siblings, Leah Santelli, is sound engineer at Harper Studios on Lansing Island, but has ambitions to be a producer. She needs a break, a way in to the ranks of producers. When Zach comes back to Lansing to make a solo album, she hopes Zach's album can be that break.

The problem is that she and Zach have a romantic history. She doesn't want to rekindle that history, not because she's over him, but because she isn't. The "don't rekindle romance" goal is of course doomed from the beginning, but that's just a piece of the problems and challenges they face. The Harpers, Grey's former Blacklight bandmates, and their friends on Lansing Island make a large, complicated, and often disfunctional family.

The main story here is Leah and Zach, but there's a lot more going on around the edges. Former Blacklight band member Billy may have problems of his own that haven't come out yet. The Harpers have been told by the lawyers handling their father's estate that there was a $5 million payout by Grey to someone, six months before his death. Other things lurk in the background. This is the third book in the series, but clearly not the last planned.

I like the Harpers and their friends. The character development, and the relations between them, are interesting and well done.

Sadly, I found that I don't care about rock stars' romantic lives. Not even a little bit.

That's really not a criticism of the book. I don't think my annoyance with that aspect of it was a function of the writing. I think it's a function of what I do and don't care about. There's enough that's very good about this book to make me believe that a lot of people will like it a lot better than I did. So bear that in mind.

I received a free electronic galley from the publisher via NetGalley.

You can't run forever. Zach has come home to lick his wounds and to try record some music. Wherever he goes he feels his father's presence it is all over the island. Will his sisters ever forgive him for leaving them when they needed him most? Leah can't believe that he is back she thought that she would never see him again she has always hoped that he would come home. Now that she knows that he is home and why, she knows that she has a chance to show him how good a producer she is. But Zach turns her down she isn't well known he wants someone well known in the business. Leah knows that she is good enough and that it is Zach's loss but it still hurts. When Zach realizes what a mistake he has made he begs for her help. They both know that they don't have much time together and that once the record is done Zach will leave the island again. Can Leah's heart withstand another break or will she realise that this is her chance to leave as well? Zach made a mistake by leaving he just hopes that she will forgive him. Can they find their happy ever after? A good solid read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

The third book in the Cloud Bay series, No Place Like You, for me was just ok. Zach Harper, rock star like his father, returns to Cloud Bay to re-start his music career. In the process he is also returning to Leah, a former love interest, now a music producer. For Leah though, his return is so much more than career driven. While I enjoyed the music part of the story, I felt that there was too much of the physical aspect of their relationship. I found myself skimming through pages to get to some meaningful dialog. I was hoping to really like this installment as much as the first two which features Zach’s sisters, Faith and Mina. A redeeming quality for this story is that there is a cliff hanger at the end. Yes, I’ll definitely read the next installment.
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy of this book.

In Emma Douglas' latest in her Cloud Bay series the author treats us to a sometimes intense yet heartwarming second chance story. Zack Harper, son of famous Blacklight rock star Grey Harper and rock star in his own right, and Leah Santelli grew up together in Cloud Bay. Leah is Zack's sister, Faith's best friend. Leah is part of the Blacklight family in that she is the daughter of Blacklight's music producer and is following in her father's footsteps trying to break into the music production industry herself. Leah had a crush on Zack when they were younger. She acted on her attraction to Zack on her eighteenth birthday when she precipitated a one-night-stand with Zack, her desperation act before he planned to leave Cloud Bay to launch a music career. Ten years later Zack's back and the attraction on both sides still exists.

Emma Douglas does an excellent job of telling Zack and Leah's story of their HEA. The plot flows smoothly and the story held my attention throughout. The sex scenes were hot starting with up against the wall sex. The author cast the scenes very well to describe the emotions and reactions of our hero and heroine. She made me feel a part of the story and very invested in what occurred with Zack and Leah. I really enjoyed this book!

I voluntarily read an ARC provided by the publisher through Net Galley for an honest review.

Leah Santelli always knew that Zach Harper, son of a rock legend and her best friend’s brother, was painfully out of reach. Then they had one night of passion before he left town to pursue his rock star dreams. Now, years later, Zach is back in Cloud Bay to record his first solo album.
This is the third book in the series but could be read as a stand alone. A story of second chances where I felt Leah was more invested in the relationship than Zach, he was far too single minded in his quest for fame. I’m afraid I’d have told him where to go! The story was well written but just didn’t grab my attention

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Zach, son of the famous rock star Grey Harper (deceased) and brother of Faith and Mina (living on the island of Cloud Bay, and happy), he wants his fortified career once and for all recording a solo album. For this, he would enjoy the sabbatical year taken by his band.

Getting back to the island that brings him so many painful memories may be the beginning he needs to make peace with the past and delineate what he wants for his future. And one of the good surprises is his reunion is Leah.

Leah ran the recording studio that Harper Inc operated on the island. She always had a crush on Zach - and that was no secret to him.
But even though she knew that Zach was leaving, years ago, to go after his dreams of fame, it it broke her heart to know he never looked back.

Zach now wants to have Leah to complete his picture of happiness and personal reunion, but you can not "take back" what never belonged to you, right?

Here closes the trilogy of the Harper brothers

I haven't read any other book by this author, but not I have to get the previous books. I really liked this story and the characters. Zach left home years ago and rarely comes back. His sisters are mad at him right now and he is trying to make up with them. Leah has loved Zach since they were kids and now that he is back, she needs to keep her heart safe because she knows he will be leaving again. She has just gone through a divorce and can't let her heart be battered like that again. And Zach is just the person who can do that to her. The problem is that she will be working closely with him and there is such an attraction that it makes things awkward. She comes up with the idea of having only a physical relationship with no strings attached. Easy! Right!? Maybe.

**DNF at 24% (Start of Chapter 6)**

This is my first novel in the Cloud Bay series despite it being the third. But I didn't mind because I adore the "in love with best friend's brother" trope and it intrigued me that this was also a second chance romance of sorts. When I dive into a series that's already established, it usually works in my favour and I end up picking up the other novels because I get interested in the previous stories.

Why this one didn't work? I felt lost almost immediately. Keeping Zach's band members and the different bands straight wasn't something I was able do. I felt like I missed a chapter or two where their relationships are explained--and I hate feeling like I should know something innately when I pick up a book (especially one that is toted as a standalone in a series).

I also didn't connect with these characters. I'm all for slow burn romance but nothing was really happening other than the acknowledgement that they had slept together nearly a decade ago. I didn't see the draw these two had towards each other besides physical attraction. Perhaps that would have come in time but when it is labelled as (or at least gives the allusion it is a) second chance romance, I want that tension to be there from the start. I want those lingering feelings to be there, waiting to be built upon.

Overall: I'm sure fans of the previous novels will enjoy this one but for someone new to the series, it didn't convince me to give the other books a read.

Contemporary Romance

Cloud Bay, California – Present Day

When she was eighteen, Leah Santelli celebrated her birthday by giving her virginity to Zach Harper, the guy she loved but could never seem to attract. Like his late rock legend father, Zach is always away from Cloud Bay, while Leah has spent nearly all her life working and living on the island. With the annual CloudFest approaching, Leah, who works alongside Zach’s sister Faith in planning for the world-famous event, is stunned when Zach rolls into town with the idea of not only performing at the event, but also wanting to record a solo album. As it turns out, Leah is a producer, and it seems like a good plan to have her work with Zach. But will being this close to the man she is still attracted to be a good idea?

Zach is still trying to find the fame his father had, and is disappointed when the leader of the group he plays for decides to go into rehab—for a year. Returning home to Cloud Bay after being gone for a long time won’t be easy, mainly because Faith is annoyed he missed the last CloudFest. Zach is surprised to learn that Leah is a producer, but takes up the suggestion to use her for his latest singing venture. This means working together—late into the night—and a sexual attraction soon turns into lovemaking. Zach won’t be sticking around, and Leah is aware they can only have a fling, but she can’t resist him.

Leah’s unrequited love for Zach has haunted her adult life, even though she has been married—and divorced—once already. In NO PLACE LIKE YOU, the return of Zach to Cloud Bay is big news because he hasn’t been back in a long time and the festival is right around the corner. He makes tentative peace with Faith and his other sister, Mina, but he still feels like a stranger on the island. Zach is restless and wants to be a big rock star like his late father, but fate has been putting obstacles in his path. He figures a fresh start is needed by recording a solo album. Zach isn’t looking for commitment, and Leah declares she isn’t wanting one. But deep down, they’re falling in love…

NO PLACE LIKE YOU is the third tale in the Cloud Bay series by Emma Douglas about the three Harper siblings who are carrying on the family tradition on Cloud Bay. While the siblings interact with one another in this tale, each book can be read as a standalone without too much difficulty. Zach hasn’t been around much the past few years, but he is always on everyone’s mind while he seeks fame in the music industry. Zach’s sisters, Faith and Mina, have found love (NEED YOU NOW and A SEASON OF LOVE, both out now), but now it’s his turn—with Leah. They have an affable friendship, but a deeper attraction finally bubbles to the surface in NO PLACE LIKE YOU. They plan to keep their fling a secret, but will everyone figure it out on this small island? Zach and Leah might be surprised at the answer.

NO PLACE LIKE YOU is a sizzling tale of hope and perseverance as the attraction between Leah and Zach never really died despite the distance and years gone by. But he has big plans to become famous; can Leah fit into his life? Does she even want to change her quiet lifestyle on Cloud Bay and follow him on his path to stardom? Zach and Leah will need to make some decisions, and readers will be rooting for them to make the right one that involves a happily-ever-after. An engaging story that’s hard to put down, grab a copy of NO PLACE LIKE YOU.

Imagine being the child of a rock star. Existing in the shadows of this image and dealing with his past rendezvous. The children of Grey Harper were accidents, same dad different moms, yet they grew up together to support each other. We've met Faith and Nina but this time it's the older brother and rocker-in-the-making, Zach. As he is reconnecting with Leah we learn about their hidden crushes from years ago. Leah has great confidence and lots of spunk, perfect for the music business. They have an understanding that quickly becomes something else. To enjoy this series you can jump in, better in order but not confusing to start here. I received my copy from Netgalley and my review voluntarily.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book.

This is the story of Zach, brother to Faith and Mina who were the heroines of books one and two of the series, respectively. He’s come back to Cloud Bay for the music festival and to also record a solo album. Leah manages the music studio owned by the three siblings. Leah’s and Zach’s paths cross again and they start a casual relationship.

I like that Leah faces situations head on and that she goes after what she wants. Zach also goes after what he wants but unlike Leah, tends to hurt people in the process.

Since I’ve read the previous book in this series, the setting is familiar as are the characters. Overall, I enjoyed reading this small town romance.

Second chance small town romance between two people who have known each other forever. Zach and Leah are both in the music business- he as a performer and she as an engineer/producer. Their long non-romantic no-strings history belies their true feelings for one another, especially as they are now working together as adults with their other romances in their backstory. Zach is a pretty selfish man and you'll be quite unhappy with him at several points. That said, you know how this one should end so ...It's part of a series but you don't need to have read the earlier books. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'm hoping there will be a Cloud Bay #4.
