As with the other Llewellyn's Little Books, this one is a good introductory reference book - this one on the topic of spirit animals. It gives a little info on multiple spirit animals. Just enough to get you interested and started on your journey.
This book to me is a condensed version of Spirit Animals. It does give you lots of information and a good understanding of what a spirit animal is, what their messages are, how to find out what your spirit animal is and topics like that. It is a very interesting read if you have ever been interested in Spirit animals. I do suggest if you want to fully understand more about Spirit Animals find a full book instead of the condensed version in this book. That being said it is still a great book.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.
This book would act as a wonderful resource for anyone interested in spirit animals. It is short and sweet, and I would recommend to anyone who is interested. However, if you are already a little bit knowledgeable on this subject, you may want a heavier book.

A holistic and spiritual way to connect with wild animals. However, the readers should remain that wild animal are dangerous or become dangerous by different life's triggers. It is important to be accompanied with a professional for real-life experience.
A beautiful little companion book about spirit animals. Meant as a pocketbook, it suits its purpose well and is a welcome addition to my e-shelf.
It’s a nice, simple book that goes in depth into spirit animals. It offers helpful advice for those that want to discover more about the meaning of spirit animals and about their guidance, but also to authors that want to include these spirits in their work.
Melissa Alvarez takes her time presenting the different fields of spirit animals. She starts by presenting the different types of animals, an extensive characterization of each and the messages and lessons that each specific spirit includes. Alvarez also describes different rituals to know your spirit guide; and how to communicate with it. The author manages to cover the most important fields and details in this condensed guide without leaving out any crucial information.
The style of writing is simple and easy to follow. The thematic is presented in a simple way and the author’s message is clearly presented and developed between the pages.
It’s the perfect reference for those interested in exploring the world of spiritual animal guides.
Thank you NetGalley, Llewellyn Publications and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book.
I got to read through this little gem of a reference book "Llewellyn's Little Book of Spirit Animals" by Melissa Alvarez. This book is sort of of a pocket guide to spirit animals. The beginning has a really nice overview on what a spirit animal is and different ways you can utilize them in you everyday life and practice. Also, Alvarez points out that spirit animals may have a one time message or may be with you for extended periods of time, you have to pay attention to your surroundings.
The meat of the book is going over a large selection of animals and what they mean. She even gives information on "mythical" animals like dragons and unicorns (and even some more obscure animals from different cultures than westerners may be used to).
She had a book that goes into greater detail, and recommend that if you are really interested in the subject matter you may want to check it out, it is called, "Animal Frequency: Identify, Attune, and Connect to the Energy of Animals." I have not read this book, but if the writing is anything like "Llewellyn's Little Book of Spirit Animals" I think it would be a good read.
I have many Native American friends who believe in, and have animal guides so I am somewhat familiar with the topic. But never having delved into the subject with much depth I think I needed more details than this book provides. But, having said that, the author states very clearly this book is a bit of a condensed version of a more in depth book on animal communication. So, while I am not sure it really provided me with a lot of insight, I did think the subject matter was presented really easily and clearly and that this is a really great reference guide for those who know a lot about this or just want to use it as a refresher and reference.
A fantastic book! Ms Alvarez does a good job explaining the concept of spirit animals and gives welcome detail about each. I have believed in spirit animals for quite a few years so I'm the perfect audience for this and enjoyed the book very much. We have so much to learn from these loving and protective guides.
Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this. It was pleasant, sweet and well thought out. We often laugh and joke about what our 'spirit animals' would be, but in reality animals have a deep connection to humans and the book accepts this head on. This was a lovely little book to dip in and out of!
I haven't read the author's other book (the one she references at the beginning) but I'll have to check it out. It says "little" in the title but that might just be the physical size of the book (hard to tell when reading online) because there are a LOT of pages here, and a LOT of animals covered. I teach a process called SoulCollage and part of the process is identifying and working with several of our own Animal Companions. This book will be extraordinarily helpful to me as well as my workshop participants. It offers a thorough explanation of the various deeper meanings and messages from a wide variety of both wild and domestic animals.
Great book that teaches lots about Spirit Animals and how they relate to your life. Learn what types of Spirit Animals there are, beliefs about Spirit Animals and even learn to find out what your spirit animal is.
I love this book! I wish it had gone into a little more detail about how to connect with these animals, I feel like that was brushed over pretty fast but other than that I really enjoyed it. I loved the info that was given and that the element and color for each animal was listed too. That came in handy for someone like me whose just starting out. I love that even the ant was included, that's not one you'd think of all the top of your head, at least I wouldn't.
This little book is easy to read and perfect to just toss into your purse all the go. It's got so much info for sure a small book. It even tells you how to honor spirit animals. I will be using it often! I can't wait to see what other books about spirit animals I can find. This is such a wonderful topic. Thanks to NetGalley for this title.

I loved reading this book, I skimmed to some important animals and animals that I thought I'd seen often in the day and I really enjoyed learning about the symbolism. I guess it helps that I firmly believe in things such as spirit animals and crystals but regardless this book still makes for a very interesting read.
I like the idea it poses of uses the book for bibliomancy also (skipping to a page) - this would be much easier with a print copy of course but the idea of using the book in this way would make it something much easier to pick up.
In terms of the actual animals you can read about also - it covers everything from cats to unicorns! I think this really makes a difference as it means that there are just so many entries that you can relate to more often.
I think the only way that someone might not necessarily like this book is if they don't believe in the context, but even for a non-believer as stated it would be interesting to read for the symbolism alone!
Thank you to Llewellyn and NetGalley for my eARC!
I've believed in animal spirits for decades and this definitely book added to my knowledge. A good book to start on your animal spirit quest.
I wanted to check this out because I definitely believe in spirit animals and animals being signs to different things. I learned more about my favorite animal the dolphin and it's just a interesting thing to learn about how animals can possibly communicate to you something you might not even realize.
A good little and simple reference book if you are interested in the subject. Llewellyn always has great titles.
A comprehensive guide to spirit animals, helpful for those who want to connect with their animal spirits and guides, as well as for authors who want to add animal symbolism to their works. I did skim read many of the entries, only reading the ones that seemed most relevant to me at the time, but every page has extensive characterization and lessons you can take from the animals (wild, domesticated, and mythical).
Not my favorite book on spirit animals. I wanted more information about how to contact and connect, but I couldn't quite understand the process as described by the author.
This book was an interesting read, but it did not blow me away, sorry but I wont be buying this.
