This book was amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the hot chemistry between Darcy and Micah during their crazy adventure together. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a bit sweetness and intrigue with this emotional romance.
I definitely look forward to reading more by Jocelyn Adams!
After some grandmotherly persuasion by his receptionist, Micah Laine agrees to at least talk to Darcy Delacorte about the Coming Home Foundation. Her proposal to him is simple:
“So what are you proposing, exactly?” Her pupils dilated, darkening the shade of her eyes. “Let me write a feature piece on the foundation, including only enough details about what happened to you in Colombia to make sure everyone reads the article, hopefully stopping the water-cooler speculation about it. And believe me, there’s a lot of speculation. Show them the man; direct them to your cause instead of to the pain you’re entitled to deal with in private. If I get it right, you get your life back. And if you’re the guy I hope you are, maybe we can be allies in this fight.”
This is an enjoyable read where the characters have depth and the storyline is intriguing.
I was a first-time reader to Jocelyn Adams, and now I look forward to reading more.

Lovely, emotional story. Micah and Darcy end up being a lot more similar than they could have ever imagined. It's their scars that ultimately brought them together. My only issue with this story was how cheesy some of the dialogue was. I just couldn't get passed it. Other than that, this is a solid story, both angsty and swoony. I loved the ending.

Darcy Delacorte is a small-time journalist wanting to make her big break so that she can write about topics that actually interest her. She had built her reputation on her blog and she really wants Micha’s story. She knows there is a lot to reveal, but she wants to do it with integrity – free of the goal of the other bloodsucking journalists who want to publicize every last detail no matter the cost to Micha. When she makes a deal with him, she doesn’t quite realize just how much of herself she will have to divulge. And when she finally gets to the truth, she has to make a decision – career, or the guy she is falling deeply in love with. But both of them have come from some pretty gnarly backgrounds and trust isn’t going to come easily for either of them.
Micah Laine – former bad boy player, turned recluse with a recovery charity specializing in rescuing people. He has been scarred both figuratively and literally – but it’s the literal scars that interest the media the most. When Darcy agrees to a deal that he thinks will afford himself a bit of protection, he has no idea that the spitfire in front of him could possess so many similarities. In record time Micha is in danger of losing so much more than he bargained for and Darcy ultimately holds all of the cards in her hands. He wants to trust her, but when the story breaks, he struggles with the printed word versus her words and their fragile relationship is suddenly on the verge of complete annihilation.
I very much enjoyed my time with this book. I liken this book to a version of Beauty and the Beast. Micha begins as a shallow self-centered party guy and ultimately learns a lesson which changes his entire life and the way he looks at the world. Suddenly he becomes a Beast on the world’s terms due to his scars, but the beauty lies within. It’s a complete reversal. Darcy is that diamond in the rough – a journalist with a conscience, who wants to report … get this … truth in a positive way. Shocker! While she has her own form of demons, she finds she isn’t all that different from Micha. But her open way of looking at the world and fining the beauty in her surroundings affects him and brings hope slowly back in despite his resistance. So, yes. This is definitely Ms. Adams version of Beauty and the Beast. Ultimately, I felt the characters were well-developed and the plot intriguing. I can’t say that some of the revelations were all that surprising as I had anticipated parts of it. However, the pace remained steady throughout the book and kept me engaged.
My biggest issue with this book is that the secondary characters were pretty much pointless. I understand their presence, but their personalities and depth were lacking quite a bit and so they didn’t make as much of an impact as they could have. Additionally, I don’t know that the reason for Micha’s abduction was ever clearly explained. If so, it was glossed over and I didn’t pick up on it. Weird given the entire premise of this book is getting the facts about what happened. Sure, there are some weak areas in the story, but as an overall entertaining read, Ms. Adams did a decent job. While I am glad I read this book and liked the outcome, I’m not sure I am convinced to return to this author. I wouldn’t be opposed to giving her another shot, but I’d likely look for a story with a completely different plot. I in no way regret my time spent with this book, it just didn’t grab me as forcefully as I would have liked it to. That said, this is still an enjoyable book to read to pass the time and will likely bring reading pleasure to those who adore a good HEA.

Darcy is a reporter but she is tired of writing meaningless articles for the society page. Darcy wants to make a difference in the world. Darcy has been promised more if she could get an interview with Micah Laine. Micah was a millionaire playboy who had been kidnapped and held captive in Columbia. Micah managed to escape one year ago and freed several other people at the same time when he escaped. When Micah returned home he was a different not man and he would not open up in public. No interviews in any form.Micah also now has a long scar on the side of his face. But Micah did form a foundation for those who have been kidnapped or held captive and help them to be rehabilitated. Micah believes Darcy is just another person who wants to plaster his past all over the place. Micah challenges Darcy with a deal to stay with him for one week in his secluded cottage on a remote island. During this time Darcy can get to know Micah she can also ask as many questions as she wants to. As long as Micah is allowed to ask for something also. Darcy is warm and carefree but she also has secrets.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the plot but this did drag for me at times. I liked a lot how Darcy tried to make sure Micah is comfortable with all she asks of him. I loved the back story and felt this was well written. This choked me up at times and made me smile at others. Micah and Darcy are definitely good for each other and help each other heal. I really liked that Darcy and Micah didn’t rush right into a insta love/ lust relationship. I loved how Micah came back and started a foundation to help others who had been kidnapped or held captive. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.
in order to get the story that will launch her career as a serious journalist, darcy delacorte agrees to spend a week in the with reclusive millionaire micah lane. previously known as a playboy, he's retired from society since his abduction and subsequent disfigurement by a group of columbian drug traffickers.
both darcy and micah are hiding plenty of secrets between them. the only way micah agrees to open up is if darcy answers his questions in turn. why he wants to know about darcy, he's not sure. but he sees something in her, and wants to know if he can trust it. he's found himself used and taken advantage one time too many.
but darcy wins him over. and the more time they spend together, micah proves himself to be the nightingale she'd stopped looking for.
**nightingale will publish on november 27, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my honest review.
This read was so, very romantic!
Nightingale is my first read from Jocelyn Adams, and I quite enjoyed it.
Micah Laine has been through hell and back, and it changes him. But the playboy turned isolated man has the paparazzi dogging his every move, and he's so focused on hiding out, the people he’s helping through his foundation aren’t getting the attention they deserve.
He vows to change that with a week-long interview he grants to one tenacious Darcy Delacorte.
”I’ve come to the conclusion that some of us need to walk all the wrong roads before we can find the right ones.”
I’ve always been drawn to damaged heroes and their stories of survival and finding love. Nightingale was just the ticket! Micah was held at the hands of some atrocious people and ever since he got back, he's been photographed as so close-offed and haunted. Everyone is clamoring for his story. He doesn’t trust journalists, especially, and there is none more determined to get under his skin than Darcy.
Darcy’s still looking for her big break, and she has big plans for what she wants to do. To get her chance, however, she has to take on a man with as many secrets as she has herself. But she’s wary of his past reputation and when he lays on the charm, she just might be tempted to make a move.
If you’re looking for a book heavy on the romance and heartfelt soliloquies than you’re going to want this book. I had massive heart eyes for these two together. Darcy’s a romantic, but she’s jaded at the same time. It’s no wonder Micah’s charming grin gets her dander up. The slow-burn was really well-done.
I loved the structure of the story the most. A secret for a secret, two people alone and getting to know each other. I gobbled each little tidbit. My only issue was that some of the smexy imaginings happened at odd moments that pulled me out of their story. It also felt a bit too over-the-top sometimes.
That said, this book is perfect for those wanting a darker storyline but with lots of heart. It’s guaranteed to leave you a little misty eyed and a whole lot in love.

Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams is the story of Darcy Delacorte and Micah Laine.
Micah has only been home about a year after escaping Colombian kidnappers along with helping to save people. Micah has turned in to a recluse mystery type person with scars on the outside and inside. Darcy is trying to get her career in journalism started and feels that Micah would make a great story to help that goal. Micah is reluctant to do the story thing she is just another user type journalist. So he sets a condition on the interview that she has to stay with him at his recluse place..and that if she asked a question...he gets to ask her to do something as well. But they both start learning more about the other...each having their own secrets.
Enjoyed their story!
An interesting read. The book is well done and it has some intriguing characters. It just wasn't a favorite of mine. It took a while for me to really get into the story. Overall though not a bad read.
Darcy Delacorte is a reporter tired of writing meaningless articles for the society page. She's been promised more if she can get an interview with Micah Laine. He's a playboy millionaire who has been all over the news after his escape from his captors but so far he's declined any and all interviews with the press. Darcy is determined to get him to agree but is she willing to pay the price he's asking??
Oh my goodness, this book was amazing! On a scale of 1 to 10 for swoon-worthiness, it gets a 20. If the author had asked me what kind of hero could make my heart skip a beat, Micah Laine would be it. Look up "tortured hero" in the romance dictionary - his face is there. I loved how Jocelyn Adams wrote a book reminiscent of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale and made it genuine for modern day. While some reviewers seem to think it's slow and blah with the sex, I found it to be sweet and highly sensual, making the intimate scenes all the more heartfelt and emotional. Quite frankly, I wish more authors wrote sex in the way Jocelyn Adams does, because it would make me feel the character's emotions in the moment so much more.
Micah Laine is a mystery to the public. After escaping from Colombian kidnappers a year ago, rescuing several others at the same time, and coming home with a terrible scar along the side of his face, he has no desire to revisit his time in that horrible place. When Darcy Delacorte, a blogger and aspiring journalist, comes to him hoping to use his story to further her career, he believes she is just another vulture out to plaster his past all over the city. He challenges her with a deal: stay with him at his secluded cottage for one week, during which time she can ask as many questions as she wants...as long as she lets him ask for something as well. But he gets more than her bargained for as his time with her becomes more intimate and his secrets become less hidden. She is warm and carefree, but she has scars of her own. When his final secret is unveiled, will she still want him?
Micah was, as I said above, a fantastic hero. While he had every reason to be cold and callous towards Darcy, given her profession and his troubled past, his warm heart and generous compassion won out in the end. He not only began to heal himself, but he cared enough to heal Darcy as well. Darcy was a character I feel many of us could relate to, and I enjoyed reading about her quirks as well as her passion for her profession. She knows that she represents what Micah hates - the media - and she puts in a lot of effort to make sure he's comfortable with everything she asks of him. They both made a supportive couple who showed that healing is never one-sided, and that perfect someone could be hiding in the least likely of places.
As soon as I finished this book, I went to look up what others this author has written. It is clear to me that this is an author I could read again, and I am eager to do so. Brava, Jocelyn Adams! This book is a must-read.
The synopsis for Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams was noteworthy. Unfortunately, I found the story quite slow moving, and the insta chemistry between the characters felt stilted and wooden-like. Overall, Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams was a borderline read for this reader.
Review copy received from Entangled Publishing via Netgalley.
The blurb for Nightingale by Jocelyn Adams interested me as it promised a romance story with a difference - a love story for broken souls. Unfortunately, for some reason, I struggled with the style of writing and found myself re-reading sections as I’d misunderstood what was happening, which resulted in a disjointed emotional connection to the book. I would have preferred more depth to the characters, as at the end of the book, I still didn’t feel as if I knew them, which was disappointing. I didn’t dislike it, but I wanted to like it more.
oh what a good story. Interesting. Good solid plot and writing.
Wow! This is a hot, exciting and adventurous story by a amazing Author who delivers such wonderful books. The main characters have amazing chemistry and really grab your attention as you follow them on their journey through the book. Overall a fantastic read which I would recommend
A slowburn read that packs an emotional punch and leaves you will all the feels.
Emotional, steady read. Not my normal type of read, a little slower for my taste but still worth a try.

Three reasons why you should read 'Nightingale' by Jocelyn Adams:
1. The romance.
2. The story.
3. The characters.
What I loved most about this book was the way the author captured the pain and struggle of a person that went through a traumatic experience.
Most importantly the inner strength of these characters and how they coped with the pain and the past.
This is also a love story, a beautifully done love story because it tells us about two people that grew up knowing what true love is, but who lost hope in it along the way.
The characters were elaborate and interesting, flawed and strong. Darcy and Micha are both survivors and I think that's what drew them together in the beginning.
This book was overly sweet and a little cliché at times, but overall it was a very pleasant read, with plenty of cute and funny moments as well as sad scenes full of anguish.
I recommend it to everyone who is looking for a relaxing book that keeps you hooked until the end.
This book surprised me. I loved the whole premise and it was an easy read from the beginning.
Darcy is a reporter looking to make a difference in the world when she gets her big chance to interview Micah Laine, the millionaire, playboy, who was recently held captive in Colombia and came back a changed man. The rumors are rampant, but he won't open up to the public. He starts a foundation to help find those kidnapped or held captive and rehabilitate them once found.
Now it is up to Darcy to reveal the true Micah to the world as she gets to know him on a remote island (while also hiding behind her own demons) with no chance of interruption or paparazzi.
I really liked this book!
Two souls. Two stories to tell. One island. Seven days. If you’re fond of a story which has a brooding hero, a lady who is harbouring her own secrets, brings some revelations along the way and is very steamy to boot, then Nightingale most definitely ticks the boxes.
“Ask me your questions when you’re ready, and I’ll show you the monster inside the man.”
This isn’t my first foray in Jocelyn Adams’ writing, but the first contemporary romance I’ve read by her and I have to say her writing style is perfect for a modern day love story, beautifully descriptive, creating just the right amount of angst and pain and balancing that with touching and passionate. And when journalist Darcy Delacorte shows her interest in writing about reclusive philanthropist, Micah Laine’s charitable foundation, she doesn’t expect him to call her bluff: he’ll share his story in exchange for a week of her company at his island home.
“I intend to explore every dark corner of you while you try to do the same to me.”
Micah and Darcy held real depth and whilst their attraction to one another heated the pages nicely, as they begin to open up to one another on a deeper personal level, it brings a warmth to their story that pulls at your heart. And whilst it all takes place over a relatively short period of time, it actually feels like these characters have known each other much much longer.
“I feel like I’m slowly waking up from a bad dream, and every time I open my eyes, you’re there like the dawn.”
Whilst I can’t deny that it was a little predictable heading towards the end, there’s no denying that Nightingale was another captivating story from Jocelyn Adams and I look forward to seeing what she brings her readers next.
This book just blew me away, it was another "what the HELL did I just read" There are a few reasons aside from the story itself. The cover gives nothing away, the blurb doesn't really go into what this fantastic story is really about and so I decide to take the leap into this one. Well holy hell, what a leap and what a fantastic story this is.
It's not what you think, it's not any image you can conjure up. You just read and go along for the ride. The characters are phenomenal, the few side characters are great. The backstory is WOW and that's all I am saying. The plot is seamless and moves along quite well and then there is a bit of romance. What I'm not giving you is the storyline, the author didn't and I'm not either. Her writing is fantastic. She gets inside their heads and takes you with her.
Read the book! There were so many things that were said that I highlighted. Which I feel more comfortable elaborating more on when the book gets released. And a more in depth review.
My advice, go for this book. Read it as it is and let it wash over you. Don't let the cover or the blurb distract you, just jump in.
I'd give it 10 stars if possible.
