What a fun/entertaining book. I really liked it and read it in one go. It's the best kind of novella, you wouldn't mind if the story was longer, but everything is still wrapped up nicely. Also, since the novella takes place over a longer amount of time, it doesn't feel too abrupt how they fall in love.
4.5 stars. I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. This is the first book I have ever read by Kelly Bowen and is a novella belonging to the Season for Scandal series. It can be read as a stand alone.
I am so happy I found Kelly Bowen. I have been looking at her books since she won the RITA this year but haven't made the leap yet. What a wonderful writer.
Lady Charlotte Beaumont is ignored by everyone. It doesn't go into too much detail about her appearance but that was fine. There are just some persons that are always in the shadow for whatever reason. Being ignored allows her to perfect her painting techniques. And ready for the next step in her "career" bargains with King.
Flynn Rutledge is also a painter from the slums of London. He has issues with the aristocracy that plays out in the novella.
I believe the story was really Charlotte's with Flynn's story as background. Charlotte really grows from hiding her talent and being ignored to wanting to showcase her worth. I enjoyed the arc of the story line but I also feel it could be extended into a full length novel.
I will enjoy reading more from Bowen and look forward to finding out about King.
Kelly Bowen's The Lady in Red is a quick delightful romantic read.
