I struggled with this one. Again I felt like the chemistry was off. But I was also on a long run of romance and that may have effected my reading. It is hard to tell, but I didn't love this one much like I didn't love The Final Score. I liked the similar story to The Cutting Edge, but I just wanted something more.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This was a typical Jaci Burton title with hot steamy scenes and sexy characters.

Jaci Burton always tops my TBR pile, and this book definitely did not disappoint. Great fun read which I recommend to sports romance fans.

Shots On Gold is the fourteenth installment of the Play-By-Play series by Jaci Burton.
This can be read as a standalone, however, I highly recommend reading the entire series. It’s amazing and I have loved every page, book in this series since the first book, The Perfect Play.

Once again, Jaci Burton has written a well family oriented story that brings two amazing people together. Will Madigan is a hockey player in his second trip to the Winter Olympics and he’s ecstatic. Amber Sloane has skated all her life while sacrificing what most girls her age experiences. Both want to win the gold, but when they have a fling, will all practice and determination flow out of the window…or will they both succeed in their win both on the ice and for their future?

Things are heating up on the ice!

I couldn’t wait to start the latest read in his hockey-centered series. This time out was a unique outing as hockey elite met ice skating royalty in a romance set within the Vancouver Olympic Games.

Will played professional hockey and Amber’s whole life had been dedicated to skating. Each knew the dedication and work that went into performing at that level but the games were an opportunity to work and play like no other. Will was happy to be joining the international teams playing a sport he loved. Amber was attending her last Olympics and she was determined to experience all it had to offer. No more hiding in her room, she was going to have fun and no one was better at it then Will…

Will and Amber’s story was full of heat, ice and all the feels. Each game and each medal competition brought nerves and excitement, matching what they were feeling off the ice. Throw in complicated family and an unexpected yearning for intimacy on both sides meant their courtship was not all smooth sailing…

Put it all together and it was a gold medal performance!

An interesting book about a hockey player and a figure skater. I didn’t love it as much as I did the others in the series, but I liked it.

I absolutely adore Jaci Burton's books and Shot of Gold is no exception. It was a great addition to the Play-by-Play series. It was super sexy and fun!

I had given up on this series for awhile skipping some in between but this was really enjoyable. With all the Winter Olympics hype this grabbed my attention. It was a cute and sexy read. You can’t go wrong with a super sexy hockey player and a beautiful figure skater.

We know you’re looking for a Winter Olympic romance! Shot on Gold by Jaci Burton is just what you need! A hockey player meets a figure skater and all bets are off!

Sadly, this is the last book in Jaci Burton's Play by Play series. As always, it's strongly character driven, and the story itself is entertaining. I really appreciate Jaci Burton's ability to write crisp, sharp, dialogue that always seems to fit both the characters and the situations. The complex primary couple will pull you into their orbit, and I really enjoyed my time with them, The secondary characters are varied and layered as well. The love scenes were well placed and served to move the story along. My only wish is for some kind of epilogue that would bring series up to date with the previous book's characters. I'm looking forward to the next series!

I love Jaci Burton’s Play-by-Play series. This series is my absolute favorite sports romance series EVER!! So when I saw that Shot on Gold was coming, I knew that I would one-click this book without looking at the blurb! When I actually read the blurb, I was more in love. I mean, who wouldn’t love a hockey player and a figure skater who’s love story takes place at the Olympics. And know that I read this during the 2018 Winter Olympics. I just smiled the entire way through this book!

Will Madigan is an NHL player who goes to the Olympics to play for Team USA. He was excited to play with people that he normally played against in the NHL. There was something special about the Olympics that he was going to enjoy.

“He wasn’t interested in sex. Okay, that was a lie. He was always interested in sex. But there was plenty of time for that, and for the next few weeks there’d be a hell of a lot of it going around. The only thing on his mind right now was getting on the ice. After that he could think about sex.”
~ Jaci Burton, Shot on Gold (Play-by-Play #14)

Amber Sloane is a figure skater who’s only dream is to win an Olympic Gold in the individual event. She (and her mother) are laser focused on that, and that alone for her life. That is until she meets Will.

“She’d been hot on by a lot of guys over the years, mainly at skating competitions, and especially at the international games. She’s ignored them all to focus only on her goal of winning. Never before had she been affected by flirting or guys coming on to her. She knew she’d be nothing more than a one-night stand, and she wasn’t much interested in being some guy’s forgettable bang. But there was something about Will Madigan that intrigued her. He was hot, and had a magnificent body. She liked that they were compatible from a skating point of view, but she’d had attractive male figure skaters hit on her before and they had certainly been more compatible than Will, so what was the deal with this guy? Why him, other than she’d madly crushed on him four years ago when he’d never once even looked in her direction.”
~ Jaci Burton, Shot on Gold (Play-by-Play #14)

I loved these two together. Will loved her to life! He took his time to allow her to get out of her safe place. It was like watching a flower blossom. Or like building the best snowman ever!

“Sometimes we have to start out in the wrong place to find out right place.”
~ Jaci Burton, Shot on Gold (Play-by-Play #14)

I loved the side characters in this book. They added a lot of fun and dimension to the book.

I also loved the realness of the book. I could tell the Jaci did her research on figure skating! The only thing that she got wrong that seemed to irritate me, was that she called the kiss and cry the scoring area. Can you tell that I love ice skating?!?! Lol. I grew up on ice skates, so the details matter to me when it comes to ice skating.

That aside, I loved this book.

“I’ll move mountains to make it work with you.”

Throughout this series I have loved a lot of the couples, but Will and Amber will go down as one of my favorites! Thank you Jaci for bringing these characters to life. It was a fantastic read!

Jaci Burton is a medal winner with SHOT ON GOLD, the fourteenth book in the Play by Play series. Will "Mad Dog" Madigan is excited to go back to the Winter Games for the second time as a member of the U.S. Hockey team. He meets U.S. figure skater Amber Sloane, who is competing for the third time. Both are determined to win gold but decide to have some fun together along the way. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences.

Jaci Burton does a great job with her character development. Being a Chicagoan, I like that Will grew up there. He has a supportive family. He is a good guy. Amber has had a lonely life. Her mother put a lot of unnecessary pressure on her. I like that she meets Will and becomes more social. The two have great chemistry and make a cute couple.

SHOT ON GOLD is a great book to put you in the mood for the Olympics or any winter sporting event. Jaci Burton does an excellent job describing the various sporting events that take place during the novel. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

The Play-by-Play series by Jaci Burton is one of my favorite series of books she has ever written. Seriously even 14 books in, I'm still in love with this series. I absolutely loved that Shot on Gold was set during the Winter Games.

I quickly found myself liking both Amber and Will as both individuals and as a couple. Yes Amber had led a pretty sheltered life as a figure skater thanks to her mom, but on her third and most likely final Winter Games, she is there to not only win gold, but have a great time and make friends. I loved that initially Will and Amber were only friends, and it seemed at first even though they were both attracted to one another, they could have stayed just friends if Amber wasn't ready for more. I think that is part of why I loved Will so much from the very beginning. He wanted Amber from the moment he saw her but let her set the pace.

I loved that while Ms. Burton never took anything away from Will and Amber's growing romance, she also did such an amazing job spotlighting so many of the different sports along the way. I feel like athletes really do bond the way she wrote it in Shot on Gold and love seeing each athlete go above and beyond to support their friends even when competing against them. The trash talking between friends also was spot on in my opinion, especially with the hockey players.

I really liked the pacing of Amber and Will's romance. They moved slowly at first, yet once they made love for the first time, they really had trouble keeping their hands off each other. I loved how open Amber was about what she wanted and how easy she and Will were together. They had some smoking hot sex along the way, yet I still felt a bit of sweetness in their relationship as well. I also understood Amber backing away as she did towards the end of the games. I can't imagine the one thing you've spent your entire life doing pretty much coming to an end, at least in the way you've been doing it, and not freaking out about trying to make a new relationship work as well. I didn't agree with how she backed off, but understood her confusion and fears.

Shot on Gold was another winner in the Play-by-Play series. While I loved the fact we usually spend lots of time with the same team members, I also loved the mixing in of the Winter Games in this book. We still saw a few favorite characters from past books, and met some new fun characters among all the friends of Amber and Will. I highly recommend both Shot on Gold and the entire series!

There is nothing more exciting than the Olympics and sexy athletes. What happens when a over managed ice-skater gets a taste of freedom? Will the hockey player be her downfall or her wake-up call to take a stand for what she truly wants?

Don't miss this hot story of hockey, romance, and self-discovery.

Shot On Gold is a story I have been looking forward to SO much, especially when it was published around the time of the Winter Olympics so it was simply perfect. I have adored every book I have read so far in this series, Jaci Burton has such a lovely writing voice and it shows in her books. In Shot On Gold we have a pairing of a hockey play as our hero, and a figure skater as our heroine and boy they rock this book out!!
So it begins when Will “Mad Dog” is to be on the USA Hockey Team for the Olympics, so he heads to Vancouver early to get as much time on the ice as possible. And in the early days, he meets up with Amber Sloane, who is a figure skater. Will has never had much interest in figure skating, until he meets sweet and lovely Amber who is graceful and endearing. Will has met up with plenty of women over the years, but Amber is a bit different for him, he has a connection with her he hasn’t felt before.

Amber has only had one focus in her life….to be a professional figure skater, with her mother riding her hard and leaving no room for a social life….Amber has no idea what its like to be around friends or to go on a date or even have sex. But this is her final year at the Olympics and even though her goal is to get the Gold Medal, she also wants to live life to the fullest…make friends and have hot sweaty sex with Mad Dog Will. Amber starts to deal with some conflicting emotions, and she has to face up to some facts about herself and where she wants to go and what she is willing to fight for. Amber is the type of heroine that I just admired. She is so focused on her career and is very talented but she has let other things in her life slide though. And we see her learning to truly enjoy living life for the first time.
The relationship that Will and Amber have together is simply so loveable. I love how they really just hit it off very quickly, they become good friends pretty much on their first day and boy the sexual tension is off the charts in this one. I loved how they don’t jump in the sack on the first day. Will knows that Amber hasn’t been with anyone other than her vibrator, and so he wants to take his time with her. I was so on board with their relationship because they just “click”. I liked that they have such an interest in each other outside the bedroom, that they REALLY like each other on a emotional level too.

We get the chance to cheer both of them on and their group of friends as they fight for their chance to win a chance at the Gold Medal and seeing all their hard work pay off in the end. Truly these moments were so poignant at times and just made me smile and tear up at the same time. I loved the emotion that Burton displays in this story because I swear I was crying at moments that I didn’t expect to.
This story has plenty of fun dynamics that will give you a fun fulfilled ride that you won’t want to get off of….full of crazy stunts, the true joy of the games and a love story to curl your toes!!

Shot on Gold is the 14th book in the Play by Play series and it has everything I like in a sports romance. First, is the winter Olympics and it highlights both figure skating and men’s ice hockey. Second, is a hot romance between two athletes who weren’t looking for love but ended up finding their one love. Will ‘Mad Dog’ Madigan is returning for a second time to win gold and tries to balance his focus on his sport and having fun. Amber Sloane is also returning for the third and last time to have a shot at gold after winning both bronze and silver medals. When Amber’s roommate introduces them, there is instant chemistry and both are interested in pursuing it.

I thought this story had a nice balance between the sports action and the development of a romantic relationship between the two main characters. Knowing that this is her last competition, Amber is going to make the most of it and pushes herself to attend parties, leave the village and make friends with her fellow competitors. And if all goes as planned she might even be able to do a little sexual exploration and take care of a little thing. I liked this character because she was so confident as an ice skater but was a little bit of an introvert, especially around good-looking guys like Will. She was real and her emotions felt real. She couldn’t get any luckier when she met Will. Will is too good to be true and one of my favorite characters in this series. He worked hard and played when he could. He challenged Amber and took her out of her comfort zone. I loved his honesty and his work ethic.

Shot on Gold was an emotional and drama filled story that highlights professional athletes at their best, with a hot and steamy romance. The story was everything and more. She brought the sports action to an exciting conclusion for both Amber and Will which added a little suspense to the ending. The author tied up all the conflicts and a there is a heartfelt ending for Amber and Will. Jaci Burton delivered another well-written contemporary romance with likeable characters and an engaging story. Good news is that you can read this as a stand-alone. If you have kept up with the series you get a few updates from previous characters and they are nice surprises. I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention the cover. Gorgeous! Hats off to Jaci Burton for this wonderful sports series.

This used to be my favorite contemporary/erotic romance series. But after 14 books, the series has sort of lost its luster for me. Compared to the first five or so of this series, the last few have paled in comparison. While this was a perfectly fine romance between two athletes (one a figure skater, one a hockey player) going for the gold in the Olympics, it just didn't have that zing .

Like I said, a perfectly fine romance, but not much conflict. I kept reading, to see how it would turn out. Was I wowed like I was by The Perfect Play, Changing the Game,Taking a Shot, or Playing to Win? Not really. But maybe I've been spoiled.

Amber has dedicated her life to figure skating and winning a gold medal, and it's her last Olympics. She's ready to win having worked the last four years to achieve her goal, so she decided she's going to enjoy the games. She's no longer willing to sacrifice friends and fun for competition sake. When she meets Will, a super hot and sweet member of the USA hockey team, everything clicks for the two of them and what might have been a brief fling turns into something much more.

Both Will and Amber are at the games to win a gold medal, but they may have found more than gold with each other. The conflicts here are light, and the very best part of this story is not the romance, but how Jaci Burton expertly captures the heart of an athletic champion and the joy that comes from doing your best and winning. I loved this aspect of the book. Amber's self confidence was a little off putting at first, especially when it came to her experience with sex, but I really ended up liking her. I liked Will's attitude too, towards sports and toward Amber. He really was quite sweet.

This book chased away my blues from the 2018 Olympics being over. I loved the camaraderie, the athleticism and thought there was a lot of joy to be found in this book. It's not my favorite book in this series, but I did enjoy it very much. It's fluff... fun fluff. An Olympic fairy tale and just what I needed now that the games are over!
