You’d have to suspend your sense of belief quite a bit for this one... but that’s not a dealbreaker. It’s a pretty easy read about a girl trying to find herself, which is especially hard as she as anterograde amnesia. The “twist” at the end was surprising enough and most of the characters were lovable.

An eighteen-year-old girl with bleached blonde hair wakes up in Ireland as the lone survivor of a plane crash. She can’t remember anything, including her name. Though the nurses tell her that she’s Clementine from Cleveland, she feels no connection to the name or to the town. The idea of going home to a father she knows nothing about terrifies her, so she runs away with the first boy she meets. Kieran is cute and harmless and lives in a cottage with his sister. As time goes on, Clementine begins to reinvent herself as Jane, who loves to bake and hates being alone. Will Clementine’s memories ever come back, or has she really been reborn at the age of eighteen?

Back in 2016, I read Rebekah Crane’s The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland. It had mixed reviews, but I loved it. I was excited to see a new book of hers pop up on Netgalley, so I immediately requested it. That was in October, but since the book doesn’t come out until February, it sat on my shelf for a few months before I picked it up. I actually really liked it.

One thing that I really appreciated (and didn’t expect) is that Clementine is actually fairly traumatized by her accident. So often, in books like this, the main character sort of pops up and gets on with their life. But Clementine, though she tries, does struggle. Loud noises make her jump. She has nightmares. Heights make her nervous. The idea of getting on another airplane is terrifying. Now, I’m not a psychologist or anything, but this seems a great deal more realistic to me than the “I just went through a traumatizing accident but I’m totally okay” books that I’ve read.

Another thing that I liked was how sometimes a saying would just pop out of Clementine’s mouth and she’d have no idea where it came from. It was just a little tease at her past, enough to keep us on our toes but not giving too much away too soon. After all, beer is cheaper than therapy in the midwest. That much is true.

Now let’s get to Kieran. I liked him from the start. He was charming and wonderful, but... (there has to be a but) I kind of felt like he was a hypocrite. I’m not going to get into spoilers, but the conflict and the ending felt a little off to me. Still, he’s a great love interest and a great character all around.

As for the secondary characters, I thought that Siobhan and Clive were great. I liked how Clementine and Siobhan kept getting off on the wrong foot because nothing Clementine ever wanted to say to her came out the right way. That’s happened to me before when trying to make friends, so I could definitely sympathize. I loved Clive and thought that he made a great friend to everyone in the book. I would love to shop at his store!

The only character that rubbed me the wrong way was Stephen. I know that I was supposed to love him, but as a medical professional myself, I couldn’t help but feel that he overstepped time and time again. I’ve said before how I’m sensitive to the portrayal of medical professionals, though, so this will likely not bother many people.

Overall, I really liked this cute, short romance. If slow burn romances, self-discovery, and Irish boys do it for you, you can’t go wrong with The Upside of Falling Down.

When I saw this book on Netgalley I thought the cover was really cute. This book turned out to be such a cute fun read. I flew through it in just two sittings, I couldn't put it down. The book is set in ireland which gave this story bonus points from me. I love reading about foreign countries, there not a setting used as often as it should be.

The main character Clementine, it was interesting to be inside her head, as she has no memories of who she is. She essentially gets to start over and find out who she is. I love how brave she is, trying new things that scares her. Kieran was a sweetheart, and is really swoon worthy. He is caring and loves to help people, helps that he's also irish :')

The last 50 pages or so were very intense and a lot of tings were wrapped up nicely, but maybe a second book could happen fingers crossed.

This book will be released January 30 2018, if you like cute fluffy contemporaries I highly recommend you pick this one up.

I have heard it said that you have to lose yourself to find who you really are and that is what Clementine has to do after surviving a plane crash in Ireland, but losing her memory.

It may have been a little stupid to read a book about plane crashes while on a plane, but I think that only enhanced the experience. This book was filled with wonderful adventure, feelings, and the ability to discover yourself again. I really fell in love with Clementine (or Jane as she liked to be called) and almost didn't want to find out what she was like before losing her memory

I chose to request this book because I thought the concept of not only being the lone survivor of a plane crash, but also having amnesia was a really interesting concept. I’ve read quite a few books where the Main Character suffers from memory loss, some I’ve absolutely loved and some I thought were repetitive and slow moving.

At first I rolled my eyes a lot anytime Clementine was asked if remembered anything, it got borderline repetitive, but I really enjoyed the way this book portrayed Clementine. I liked Clementine as a character overall. She was so many things I’m not one being extremely impulsive. I liked the fact that she was running away from her old life, because I'm most books about memory loss I’ve read the character tries so hard to fit into their old life and it gets boring. This book was far from boring. I thought the book focused a lot of romance, which I liked.

At first it was a bit slow, but when it picked up, maybe a quarter of the way through, I ended up reading the rest of the book in one night. It kept me hooked and I felt like I needed to see how Clementine’s story played out. I also was dying to see what secrets all of the characters were keeping from each other. I was completely surprised by the way everything played out, and thought it was an great book.

I really enjoyed this book but had some problemes with it. The main character's nickname was "bunny" and was used in so many inappropiate times. I also found that the romance moved a bit to quickly.

Clementine (Jane) is the sole survivor of a plane crash but she can't remember anything about the crash or her life before. She decides to take a chance and be someone new. She takes on the name Jane and sets out with a stranger to find a new version of herself. She finds herself falling in love with Ireland and who she's becoming. She also finds a few new friends along the way. These are the type of friends that change your life forever. I loved the Ireland setting of this story, and I loved Jane. Jane was strong, independent and brave. I also really loved the trio of friends she made in Ireland. Kieran is sexy, and kind. I adored Von & Clive; they were the perfect balance of crazy, and funny.

4.5/5
Let me start by saying the premise of this book is really interesting. A girl is the only survivor in a plane crash, she wakes up in a hospital and has no clue where she is or who she is. She meets a handsome man in the courtyard and decides to run away. Her adventures around Ireland were fun, I rooted for her bonding more with Siobahn, and Kieran was the guy we all wanted her to end up with but she couldn’t, because he was going through tough stuff. When Kieran admitted that he knew all along who Jane (Clementine) was, that’s where this book lost me. And when James, Jane’s dead boyfriend was revealed to be Siobahn’s baby daddy who ran away from her? That’s when I almost stopped reading - and this was about 90% through the book! It felt like the end 15-10% was just trying to tie up loose ends, which I understand, but it just felt very obvious that this was happening. When her dad shows up, her memories come back immediately (talk about bad storytelling when Jane tells her life story instead of, I don’t know, showing this?), and she goes back to Ohio without a fight, I found this all unbelievable. The final straw was when Kieran surprises Jane on the flight back to Ohio and asks if he can stay with her, and that he wants to be with her forever - and she just accepts this. After he betrayed her? Hm…

I very much enjoyed this book! I didn't really know what to expect when I started it, but the premise sounded intriguing. I am so, so glad I gave it a shot. I am a sucker for happy endings! I have already ordered several copies as gifts for some girlfriends who also love happy endings, along with a couple of copies for the library I purchase for. Thank you so much for allowing me to read this fabulous novel!

Such a strong book. Imagine being the only survivor of a crash and how you would deal with that. Great read!

The idea of losing all your memories and not knowing yourself would freak me out as much as it did Clementine aka Jane. I'm not sure I would have the courage to go about finding my memories the way she did by leaving with a stranger to her in a strange country penniless and without anything to her name. Kieran was a bit confusing and never really around much for the first part of the book. Jane didn't get very far in finding herself for most of the book and when she did it seemed too quick and perfectly timed. The twist was one I guessed partway through and the ending wasn't too bad but once again quick. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Upside of Falling Down is an journey within the setting and the main character. Clementine can't remember who she is due to being the only survivor in a plane crash, which causes her to end up in Ireland. This book was full of secrets, romance, and self growth. It mentioned about strength, which made it seem like a reoccurring theme. This book showed that no matter how hard life gets, we have support and love to get us through and that we are not always alone to face these things.

I absolutely loved this book. This is the story of Clementine, who is the lone survivor of a plane crash, who finds herself with amnesia stuck in the hospital. Clementine has no idea who she is or why she's in Ireland in the first place. When opportunity presents itself she is able to sneak away, using a new name, with the help of a stranger she met at the hospital. Taking a risk leads Clementine on an adventure where she discovers that the things that define us are always changing. I love the way the story was written and I love characters. The complicated relationships that they shared kept me interested and I was rooting for Clementine to find her way back to herself without changing the new, reborn Clementine. Another wonderful book by this author! Thank you netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest opinion

The Upside of Falling Down is an unsurprisingly easy read. The story of Clementine Haas, the sole survivor of a tragic accident, taking up a new identity after waking up with retrograde amnesia, product of a tragic accident, is compelling and captivating on its first pages.
Rebekah Crane is incredibly effective in hooking you in the first two paragraphs, making you want to know more about this character and her story. Unfortunately, the character she paints at the very beginning is lost for a great part of the narration (product of her confusion and overthinking tendencies), and so you tend to lose a bit of interest in what Clementine has to say about her state and feelings (since the first chapters tend to be a repetition of what you already know: She feels terrible, she's missing herself, she wants to be understood, she is awkward). This gets better as you read along and the rhythm picks up a bit, and the twists begin to happen.
This is not a horrible story. It might feel formulaic at points, but Rebekah Crane is actually quite good at escaping the instances in which this happens by either giving you a reason for why the story went that way, or showing you that it served a greater purpose (like all interactions between Kieran, Clementine, and certain other characters).
Kieran can be read as too much of a cookie cutter "male in a romance", but that also serves a purpose in the great scheme of things. If you don't seem to like him, there is a reason. And the same could be said about other characters that I will not name for the sake of remaining spoiler free.
The book is fun, light-hearted, frustrating, and gives you second-hand embarrassment more times than I'd like to admit.
I definitely recommend this book as a companion for slow moments, and as an easy read. Not because the story is "simple" or "meaningless" but because it will make you laugh, and won't actually crush your feelings, which we all need from time to time.

What a fantastically written book. I have never read any of Rebekah Crane's books, but I certainly will now. I found myself sucked in immediately, and really felt a connection with the main characters. I felt as though I was there. I would definitely recommend this book to others! I can't wait to read more from the author.

I enjoyed this book. The premise of a plane crash with one survivor who's lost her memory--then sets out to really live her present life--is very good.

Clementine has some very "lovely" people in her post-crash life and they make the story rich. I struggled with many of Clementine's choices because they were so inconsiderate and cold. But then again--no memory and no feelings from past relationships. The first half moves slow and there's a lot of repetition, but I still consider it a good read.

This book was a really good breather from some of the more intense books I've read. The plot wasn't groundbreaking and was, at times, a little formulaic, but I had fun reading it.

It's a boy-meets-girl story about Clementine Haas, who is the sole survivor of a plane crash in Ireland, and Kieran O'Connell, the boy who saves her and helps her find herself. Clementine, calling herself Jane, has Kieran help her escape the life she forgot and start a new one.

The first part of the novel is a little slow and I wish that the plot picked up faster than it did. The twist at the end also came in the second to last chapter and I wish it had been revealed a little sooner. However, I did enjoy the twist and thought it was a good way for the author to tie in Clementine's old life with her new life.

Since I am sucker for romance and will happily admit I love boy-meets-girl novels, I really enjoyed this read. Knowing it was YA helped me overlook some of the far-fetched aspects of the plot and just let myself enjoy a cute love story. Of course I was rooting for Clementine and Kieran because I think I had a little crush on Kieran and thought he was the perfect boy (I mean, c'mon, a gorgeous Irish boy with blue eyes, how could you say no?)

Overall, I give it a 3.5/5. It had a happy ending that wrapped up nicely and, while I wished it were earlier in the story, a twist that I wasn't completely expecting. I would say this book would great when you want a quick read that you don't have to focus on too much.
