From the beginning this book had me hooked. I felt like I was on a tilt a world ride of emotions. RVD amazes me so much with her ability to snag you right away and keep you hooked!
I received an ARC of this book for free by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Wow! I LOVED this book. I actually am torn between giving it 4.5 stars or 5 stars, but after thinking about it I have to give it a 4.5 star rating. This book was not just a light hearted one, but one that made you feel for the main characters. It had real problems and reminded me of Rachel’s other series Ruin. In Franternize we ended with Miller and Kinsey in a compromising position. This book starts a few minutes after that and the outcome of what happens. Kinsey’s ex is playing football with the Bucks and Kinsey’s overprotective big brother decides that Miller and Kinsey should start fake dating. The only problem is that there are real feelings and heartbreak between Kinsey and Miller.
This book would have been a solid 5, no questions asked, had the book just focused on Kinsey and Miller. Instead we had a splatter of Jax’s P.O.V (Kinsey’s over protective older brother) and his new relationship. I think Rachel should have given Jax his own book with him meeting Harley and the build up of their relationship. Maybe she will add another book that focuses more on Jax and Harley, but I felt it was a little awkward switching between the two relationships and that it took away from Miller’s and Kinsey’s relationship.
Without spoiling the book I wish there were things that Kinsey would have done and elaborated more, especially concerning her past.
I ALMOST made it to the end of the book without crying, but at 93% I started. There were many touching and heartbreaking scenes.
I truly enjoyed this book more than the first one. There were still scenes with Sanchez and Em . The characters and friendships still shone through this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books, sports or reading.
Overall, I hope there are more books in this series and Rachel is still one of my favorite authors.
It was a bit and miss. I thought their reason for dating was just silly but I liked the wider story a lot.
It's not a stand alone book, I hadn't read the first book so I didn't really understand quite a bit of Miller's story you need to read the first book for that. The writing style is good and I liked the characters
Kinsey is the younger sister of Jax, one of football’s star quarterbacks, and is off-limits to his teammates. So when someone from Kinsey’s past comes back to haunt her, her brother gets the bright idea to have Miller, his teammate, pretend to be her boyfriend, not knowing that the two of them hooked up months prior. But a bad relationship isn’t all Jax is trying to protect her from. When she finds out the truth she’s going to need a shoulder to cry on; she just might lean a little harder on Miller than Jax had in mind, causing a rift in the relationship between the teammates themselves.
Like all of Van Dyken’s books, I was hooked from the first page. I loved the characters, including the supporting cast, and the love and banter between them helped to bring a lightness to some of the more somber themes of the book. Miller was swoon worthy with a capital S and I liked the strength of Kinsey’s character. Kinsey’s relationship with her brother reflected a lot of sibling relationships, right down to the need to be independent. The chemistry, fueled by the secret nature of their relationship, is off the charts.
I have not read the first book in the series (it is now on my TBR) and I didn’t feel as though I missed a whole lot having not done so. I’ll definitely go back so that I can read a little more of the depth of the friendship between Miller and Em, however I really did enjoy this story. My biggest complaint though was just how much of a voice Jax had within the story. It is told in multiple, first person, points of view from Kinsey, Miller, and Jax’s points of view, and while Jax’s voice does lend some insight into Kinsey and Miller’s histories and relationship, it seemed as though it just served to better set him up for the next book in the series. I would have liked to have more Kinsey and Miller. I’m looking forward to Jax and Harley’s story! (Wait, there WILL be Jax & Harley’s story right?)
Infarction by Rachel Van Dyke a winning five-star read. This is my second book by this author, I have previously read Fraternize and loved the characters so I was so glad to see this book come out. I am familiar with several stories in this book, as I have an over protective brother and the family and health stories have also touched my heart. I loved the fake relationship in public and trying to not be affected by the whole Vegas thing as we all know what happens in Vegas stays there, doesn’t it?
For a story essentially about football players and cheerleaders this was a great story filled with care, passion and bonds that show they can never be broken if they are strong enough. Well done Rachel Van Dyke on a very well written and compelling read.
Where do I start with all this crazy?!.
This book has left me an emotional mess. That ending was tough.
Infraction is the second addition to Rachel Van Dykens A Players Game series. A sports romance with a little twist. This book is a freaking journey. And emotional rollercoaster that will have you laughing till you cry one minute and sobbing till your eyes dry up the next. It's gives you hope, love and all that soppy romance goodness us bookish lovers crave. It's comes with baggage and bittersweet heartbreak. It's has perfectly imperfect characters that are equally frustrating as they are lovable. A story that sucks you in and spits you back out rung dry and emotionally exhausted. The storyline is set out at a nice pace.. it's raw with the emotional capacity to make you feel their pain, relate to their problems and love them regardless of their flaws.
I like the change up of POV's it's nice to have not only the main characters perspectives but others too giving you a better understanding of that character and the reasoning behind their actions.
Chicken waffle are my favourite couple in a hot minute!.
Miller and Kinsey perfectly balanced eachother. Their banter was on point at all times and I lost count of the amount of times I laughed till my eyes leaked. They both had their own kind of fucked up going on with plenty of skeletons in their closet. They healed eachother .. not right away. It took time and a few fuck ups but they got there. Their chemistry was on point with a smoking hot slow burn at the start just to build up the anticipation.. let me tell you they did not disappoint.
That ending broke me. I cried for a good 10 minutes and not the cute kind... no I'm talking about full blown sobbing ugly face running nose kinda deal that has your partner just walking out the room cause he can't deal with the blubbering mess that is me..LOL!.
I loved it. Seriously it was just what I needed after my crazy re-readathon of old books. Rachel pulled this out the bag with a seamlessly written story filled with humour, love and heartbreak. It's a rollercoaster but one I loved. I can recommend enough.
I kindly received this ARC from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
If you think you're getting "just another sports romance" with Infraction; think again. Rachel Van Dyken delivers an emotional rollercoaster with the fictional world of the Bellevue Bucks - and their star tight end Quinton Miller. It's a tale of best friend falling for best friend's sister but with angst, pain, and a whole lot of steam. I thought I was getting a fun, lighthearted, easy read. Flag down!! RVD made me ugly cry. Definitely not what I was expecting - but so very glad I received it. With it's comedic timing, well written supporting cast of characters, and a horny grandmother - you'll laugh, cheer, and yes probably even cry. Rachel Van Dyken scores with Infraction and it's the best end zone dance I've seen since Tweeter from Varsity Blues.
I loved this book! I thought it was amazing! Couldn’t put it down,I consumed it! Highly recommend reading
I really did not like the first book in this series, but this one was pretty sweet. I loved Kinsey and Miller won me over in the first book. I like that there's some obstacles to overcome, but for most of the book, the main characters like each other and enjoy being together. Really enjoyed this one, possibly enough to give some of the author's other books a try.
I knew I was going to enjoy this book but I didn't realize it would hit me as hard as it did. This is going to be on my top books of the year list for 2018 and it isn't even 2018 yet. The story gutted me and then at the same time healed me.
I never really did pick a "team" in book one. I liked both of the guys and I just couldn't pick one. After reading this one I know that these guys are with the right woman. I was very happy to see the bit of a side story we got in this book. I think that helped round the story out and made this book so much more then it already is.
The last 10-15% of this book. WOW. Just WOW. That was just...I have no words for what that was. Rachel you really out did yourself with this book.
I don't know if there is going to be a 3rd book but if there is I can't wait to see where the series goes from here.
What can I say, Rachel Van Dyken does it again. I love reading her books. I always feel like I'm reading a romantic comedy. The comedic quality, and sassy, fun loving characters is something i love about her. I always get a little bit of everything when I read her work and this book did not disappoint. I can't wait for the next installment in this series.
Holy Macaroni!!! I have been waiting for this book for months!!! I LOVED the first in this series and I couldn’t wait for Miller to find his HEA. This book did not disappoint, I laughed, I ugly-cried, I made my poor husband hold me while I read some of it...I felt like I was bi-polar reading this.....but in the best possible way....temporarily bi-polar based on a book...is that even a thing? Who knows! It was great though! Thanks again RVD!
Oh my gosh. This book was so good! I laughed. I cried. I swooned. I fell in love with Miller and Jax. What sexy heroes they are.
I was so excited when I recieved an ARC of this book through Netgalley. I had previously read Infraction and could not wait to get my hands on this book. But the excitment kind of stopped there. To me this book was very predictable, and the same things kept happening over and over without anytype of big twist or turn. I didn't feel as much emotion in this book as I did with Infraction. I knew from the very beginning how this book was going to end. I understand some of Jax and Kins relationship, but this book just keep going on and on about how he was over protective. If you like books that doesn't have a huge emotional rollercoaster then you will love this book.
Love this author, book was very entertaining however if you have not read the first book in this series you might get a little lost
This book broke my heart in a good way but it still broke it.
Things i liked
- The laugh out loud banter between Miller and Kinsey.
- 2 words Chicken and Waffle's.
- I think Rachel Van Dyken handle writing about Cancer and Lupus so well without really having to really explain it if that makes any since.
- Jax is my favorite (when are we getting his and Harley's story?)
Things i didn't like
-Anderson (he's a controlling jerk)
Thank you for a chance to review Infraction. This book started out slow for me. I was kind of on the fence about Kinsey and Miller. It took me a while to warm up to them. Miller was just too in his head for me and Kinsey seemed to be over the top with the I want him/I don't . Eventually once we had the added characters of the ex, and her dad, I began to get invested. Although I think with all the drama about the ex at the beginning really fell short at the end. We get all this info about him and then boom he makes a nasty comment at the end and coach kicks him off the team, it just seemed rushed. I think Ben was really the star of the show. His sense of humor is what made me get through his parts. I was in tears but in the end it turned out to be a fabulous book. I really want to read more of Jax. I'm looking forward for his book. I guess because he is more in my age group. Sometimes I forgot that Miller and Kinsey along with Sanchez and Emerson were in their early 20"s. That may have been part of the reason it took me a little while to "get" them. Thanks Again ~S
I loved this book. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed reading about Miller and Kinsey's relationship through the different stages it went through. This book had some sweet romantic moments but also some very serious and sad moments. I loved the incorporation of all the friends that we met in the first book of the series, and how they are ultimately always there for each other. This book had a couple of surprises also thrown in. Overall, a highly enjoyable read!!!
Wow. Simply wow.
I'm not sure if I would have picked up this book if I had known that I would sob my way through two or three whole chapters but I would have so missed out on something really special. Because this book is special.
Amidst all the sad parts there is always laughter and hope, there's love that helps people to deal with the loss, that helps them to go on and there's the kind of family that is not determined by blood relations but by the way people care for each other and are there when the other one needs them This is also a story about letting go and setting free and it's about learning that even though you set somebody free it might just mean that everything changes - and for the best.
Love, laughter, hope and new beginnings despite the loss and the sad parts, wonderful characters who have found the way to your heart before you even realized that that's where they are heading for and a story that is just right - this book is amazing!
I can't even tell who I loved most because all those characters are unique and wonderful. I loved Em and Sanchez but I also loved Miller and Kinsley and, of course, Jax and....oops, read for yourself! Oh, and don't forget Marco. He is sweet and fun and is such a ray of hope and sunshine that you just have to love him - once you've packed away your hankies.
Full of action and emotions, this book is an amazing story that you won't want to miss.
Full review to be published online in early January, 2018.
INFRACTION is the second book in Rachel Van Dyken’s fun and intriguing “Players Game” series about pro football players. Here we have Miller Quinton (from the first book ‘Fraternize’), and Kinsey, the sister of one of his teammates. He has been asked to pretend to date Kinsey; but no one knows that Miller and cheerleader Kinsey shared a hidden steamy encounter some months back.
INFRACTION is a nice story, suitably romantic and angsty. Most of the key players in the story carry over from the first book, so this is not really recommended as a standalone read. There are too many previously introduced characters. Still, it’s fun.
