I loved the banter between Lord Robert Carlisle and Mariah Winslow. These two characters shared a deep grief and guilt over the loss of a parent. They also clashed when it came to Winslow Shipping, Mariah's father's business. They both wanted a position in the company and often quarreled over it. I enjoyed this story and the chemistry between the characters. I read an advanced reader's copy of this book that was provided by NetGalley and I chose to leave a review.

Whether it's business or pleasure, Lord Robert Carlisle never backs down from a dare. But finding a husband for scandalous Mariah Winslow? It's one challenge he instantly regrets accepting. Even with all his connections and rakish charms Robert will have to use every trick in the book to marry off a woman with no dowry and no sense of decorum...no matter how stunningly beautiful she is.
Mariah Winslow has no intention of being a pawn in Lord Robert's game. She knows he agreed to play matchmaker only to secure a partnership in her father's shipping company, a partnership that's rightfully hers.
This is the third book in the series but could stand by itself. However the series is so very good I’d recommend reading them in order & you’ll come to love the Carlisle brothers as much as I do. Robert & Mariah clash from their first meeting & they can’t seem to meet without locking horns. Their meeting with Elizabeth, Robert’s mother is hilarious especially when he finds himself holding a plate of tarts. However their attraction is also apparent from the beginning & they are the only ones who won’t recognise it. There are misunderstandings along the way & a heroine who like dowsing the hero in liquids whether it’s champagne, ale or dirty water. I love the author’s books & I’m always drawn in from the beginning, the characters are always strongly portrayed & this book is no exception. The plot is so very well paced that I was loathe to put the book down. I found myself laughing at Robert rescuing a kitten & had tears at the three brothers sharing scolds by their father. I would have liked to have known whether the two brothers spent time in the lock up or paid for damages.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Anna Harrington has pulled me into another fun book in her Capturing The Carlisle Series. This time it is second son, Robert’s turn to be snared in the parson’s mousetrap. Robert has been working diligently the two years since his father’s death to atone for his rakish past and assuage his guilt over his father’s death. Now he has a chance for a partnership in the most prestigious shipping company but only if he uses his connections to marry-off the owner’s daughter.

Mariah’s only desire is to be a partner in her father’s shipping business but Robert Carlisle is standing in her way. He is standing so close that she can’t help but be attracted to him.

In this enemies to lover’s trope the author brings all her skills to give us witty dialog, brilliant characterization and a unique plot. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Publisher's Description:

When playing a game of wits, never ever go up against the woman they call the Hellion . . .
LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD...

Whether it's business or pleasure, Lord Robert Carlisle never backs down from a dare. But finding a husband for scandalous Mariah Winslow? It's one challenge he instantly regrets accepting. Even with all his connections---and rakish charms---Robert will have to use every trick in the book to marry off a woman with no dowry and no sense of decorum...no matter how stunningly beautiful she is.

Mariah Winslow has no intention of being a pawn in Lord Robert's game. She knows he agreed to play matchmaker only to secure a partnership in her father's shipping company, a partnership that's rightfully hers.

For now, though, she'll dress for the elegant balls he throws and dance with the eligible bachelors he chooses. But she won't be outwitted by the devil himself---no matter how tempting and irresistible she finds him.
"With its strong feminist bent and lively battle of wills, Harrington delivers what readers crave: a smart, fun read." -RT Book Reviews
Capturing the CarlislesIf the Duke DemandsWhen the Scoundrel SinsAs the Devil Dares

My Thoughts:

This is the third book in this series and as well written as the other two.
I enjoyed Mariah and Robert's story very much. It is the classic battle of wills between adversaries that turns completely on it's heels to love.

Neither our hero or heroine want to admit their feelings for one another although it is pretty obvious to all those around them.

Although the other two brothers make a cameo appearance in this book it still reads well as a standalone title. It is not necessary to have read the other two books to fully enjoy this one.
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a high sensual rating of 4.5 of 5.0 flames.
The intimacy between our hero and heroine is combustible.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

I loved Robert and Mariah's story!!

When you pit two strong willed people wanting two different thing, you know there are going to be sparks! Harrington does not disappoint!! I couldn't put down the book because I just so invested in their story!

For me, I think the bantering between Robert and Mariah was the best part of the book. I often found myself laughing out loud. Harrington is masterful in this part of her dialogue writing. You can't ask for better!

The Carlisles are all married now, but I'm hoping we get the other Winslow sister's story!!

The next addition to the Capturing the Carlisles series, this is Robert's story. Although not my favorite of the series, it is a marvelous read. Robert blames himself for his father's death. He strives to succeed in business, since one of the last things his father said to him was that he was disappointed in Robert. Thinking a partnership in Winslow Shipping and Trade, the most successful merchant company in Great Britain, he enters into an agreement with the owner. For his part, he must use his connections to see Mr. Winslow's eldest daughter wed by the season's end. The problem is Marian Winslow is also known as the Hellion. How in the world will he find someone who will marry her, who she is willing to marry. Their disagreements are classic, just aching to get physical. Anna Harrington's storylines are always fresh and new, with each Carlisle finding their soulmate in entirely different ways. A very nice read, but will this be the last of the Carlisle's?

What I love about historical romances is that even if the book in the middle, or end in this case, of a series, that book can still standalone. This is the third book in the Capturing the Carlisles series and while I have read both the first and second book, it has been too long for me to remember any specifics. I had trouble putting this book down (with grad school my reading has been limited to about an hour before bed) and stayed up too late a couple time this week as a result of this book.

Robert is the perfectly flawed hero with a penchant for business. I found this unique as usually members of the 'ton' do not actually work, just live off the work of others. He meshed perfectly with the Hellion, Mariah. The heroine is such a passionate character, who has great friends. I would love to see a book about Mariah's friend Hugh Whitby, who seems like one who'd make an adorably awkward hero.

Overall I definitely recommend this romance, it was everything I want in a romance and more.

Anna Harrington has quickly become a one click author for me when I need to have my historical romance fix! As the Devil Dares is book three in the Capturing the Carlisles series, and it is Robert and Mariah's story.

Robert is the last Carlisle brother who has yet to marry. He's loving being a single man enjoying what pleasures he may find. He has been laser focused of late on proving himself to his family by succeeding on the business front. When offered a chance to become a partner in Winslow Shipping, he jumps at the chance. Then the stipulations ensue. The biggest being he must help Winslow's oldest daughter, Mariah, with her upcoming season and to find a suitable husband. He accepts the challenge not realizing how difficult it may actually be. Mariah offers suitors no dowry, or options to join the family business. And with her hell-raising antics well known, he has possibly bitten off more than he can chew! She's known as The Hellion for gosh sakes!

Mariah has only ever wanted to sit by her father's side and run the family business. She knows the business inside and out. Unfortunately, her father doesn't think the wharves are where his daughter should be. No, he promised her late mother he would make sure that both their daughters would be proper ladies and find suitable husbands. He has no intention of allowing Mariah to be any formal part of the business.

Robert is forced to escort Mariah to various balls, teas, and soirees throughout the season. The more he accompanies her, the more he wants no one to come calling to court her. No one is good enough for her-except himself of course! I loved Robert! Love literally hit him over the head! He had no idea! I also absolutely loved Mariah and her fiery ways! She was a smart cookie. Most of the ordinary blokes couldn't even hold her interest yet alone talk with her intellectually! She truly was bored with anyone but Robert! He made her blood sizzle! Their banter back and forth was foreplay for these two! Scrumptious!

A delightful and entertaining read! Anna Harrington has a knack with her style of writing. I feel like I am right there witnessing the entire thing! I am so glad I started reading about the Carlisle brothers, as they have been a fun bunch to read about!

When a chance to prove himself in a lucrative business partnership arises, Lord Robert Carlisle, is ready to do whatever it takes to see it through to the end. He never could imagine part of the deal was finding a match for the owner's daughter, who is known as 'The Hellion'. Mariah Winslow was raised practically on the dock by her shipping mogel father. She always has dreamed of taking over the business and is gutted when she learns that one of the Carlisle brother's is looking to become a partner in the business. She won't make it easy for Robert to marry her off. The task of finding someone to marry the dowerless Mariah, was going to be difficult but Robert didn't foresee the added glitch of him having so much in common with the striking spitfire.
This entire series gets 5 stars! It did take me a little longer to warm up to Mariah as she showed a lot of immaturity when first getting to know Robert. After awhile it was clear that Mariah was exhibiting behavior one would expect from someone who lost a parent at a young age. Once one gets to know the Carlisle family you can't help but fall for their charm, as The Hellion would come to find. The pairing of this couple ended up being perfect.
I am sad this series is at an end but I was so happy with the epilogue and the choice of names for Sebastian and Miranda' s baby girl. I'll need to reread these now.

So I confess, I thought Robert would be the least likely to have a serious relationship but I could not have been more wrong. All of the stories in this series are fantastic and they all are special in their own way. Robert, the libertine and rakehell, hurts and blames himself for his father’s death and it just makes you want to hold and comfort him. Mariah has the same kind of experience with her own mother and their tragedies bring them closer together. I loved how Miranda will not back down from anything, the hellion. The relationship between Robert and Mariah slowly progresses over time and watching them come to love, respect and cherish one another makes this story so special. Ms. Harrington knows how to bring out the tears even to the very end. Just wow!

Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars! Reviewed via NetGalley.

Lord Robert Carlisle wants to prove to his family that he is a good man. He wants his late father to know that he did make something of himself. Robert sees an opportunity to make something of himself in the business world if he can gain a partnership in the Winslow family's shipping business. In order for Robert to make partner, he must marry off Winslow's oldest daughter, Mariah, a woman nicknamed "the Hellion" for all of her daring antics about town. To make matters worse, Mariah has no dowry and her husband must hold no hopes of gaining any part of their family business.

Mariah Winslow sees right through Robert. That partnership be hers. She has worked long and hard for it and he is an outsider. Mariah will play along long enough to get what she really wants. As time goes on, Mariah starts to become unsure of what she really wants, as her feelings for Robert also change. Will Robert choose Mariah, or is his heart set on a partnership in her father's company?

Author Anna Harrington amazes me yet again with her writing skills. Her characters, the scenery, the plot... all ensnares. Ms. Harrington's CAPTURING THE CARLISLES series is a breath of fresh air. It currently consists of three compelling novels, IF THE DUKE DEMANDS, WHEN THE SCOUNDREL SINS and last but not least, AS THE DEVIL DARES. AS THE DEVIL DARES is my second favorite. Mariah and Robert are perfect for one another. Together, they can be their true selves, and society be damned. Their love story is one for all time! Each book in Ms. Harrington's CAPTURING THE CARLISLES is so highly rated by me because they are all gems! If ever a historical romance reader needed keeper shelf material, then they need look no further than author Anna Harrington's CAPTURING THE CARLISLES series. I cannot wait to read more by her.

(Sigh) I loved this book. Every single Carlisle brother has had his own demons to deal with. They're all spirited with a wild streak that most likely gave their mother grey hair. But Robert was the most troubling and troubled of all.
And what woman could possibly take on the wildest Carlisle? Well that would be the Hellion, of course. Only a Winslow sister is strong enough for the last Carlisle brother.
Mariah (also known as Hellion) has her own demons and dreams. Unfortunately her dreams and Robert's dreams are for the same position within her father's company.
This is a wonderfully entertaining book. Be sure to read about Robert and Mariah. Their story is worth the time.

Mariah Winslow is the oldest daughter, her mom died but she has her dad and her sister. She wants to work with her dad's company, Winslow Shipping. Robert Carlisles is the youngest of three sons and happens to be single but he wants a partnership in Winslow Shipping. He feels he killed his dad and needs to show he can make his dad proud. There are a few twists and turns to this story to shake things up. I loved the background and the descriptions were so nice , like racing a phaeton down St James St. She is smart, intelligent, beautiful and generous of heart. Robert does not want to marry. He wants to do something to make his family proud.
I loved the plot, there was so much going on, She and her sister were very close as was robert with his brothers. She was trying to be good because Elizabeth, Roberts mom were bringing her and her sister out. This was a excellent tale, it covered the full range of emotion. It catches your attention and does not let you go.

This has been an amazing series by Anna Harrington and I love the Carlisles so much. This book is about Lord Robert Carlisle, who never backs down from a dare. Now he is trying to find a husband for a scandalous Mariah Winslow. Robert will have a hard time doing this. Mariah Winslow knows Robert agreed to play matchmaker only to get a partnership in her father's shipping company. I love the chemistry between these too and I can not wait to read more books in the future.

This is entertaining, romantic and dramatic. Robert is stubborn, determined, obsessed and charming. Mariah is stubborn, bold, kind, caring and sweet. Both Robert and Mariah want a share of Winslow Shipping, Robert to prove himself, Mariah because she loves the company. Robert will do anything to get a share, and Mariah's father will do anything to get her married, so they make a deal, her marriage for a share. But Robert didn't take into consideration that he might actually like Mariah. They fight like cats and dogs until the sparks turn into flames and they combust. It's a thoroughly captivating and enjoyable story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

This is a great read! Mariah, meets up with the Carlisle brothers! This one, Lord Robert, determined to prove to his dead father, the Duke, that he can be, and will be a better man! The catch is, he must get the oldest daughter, Mariah, married, help her her father buy up a lot of property next to the Wharves, in order to make more room for the Winslow Shipping Company! This is a good book, with history of the Wharves, and their importance to international trade.
I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!
