a suspenseful but thought provoking story about regret, parallel universes, and how to grapple with the what ifs in the wake of loss. The friendship between Sophia, DJ, and Luke was super touching
Appropriate for upper elementary.
Sophia lost her moth when she was six, but she has Memories of her mother after that. Memories of time with her mother that should exist. She meets up with DJ and discovers that he has the same kind of Memories. After teaming up with Luke they seek out a way to change what they are missing in their lives.
While reading I kept thinking Sophia was younger than 7th grade.
This is a story about a girl named Sophia who is grieving for her mother who died of cancer when she was six. Sophia doesn't really want to be the girl who's mother died so she's struggling with friendship too. Her teacher assigns her to do a group project with two boys that she doesn't know very well but it turns out they all have losses and they all have this weird thing that happens-they remember things that never actually happened. I really liked how the author wove themes of loss with the idea that things don't always turn out like you plan. I think the kids are going to like this one a lot.
Very touching story. The personal elements and character development were so intimate and even relatable that made this book hard to put down.
