An absolute winner from Caroline Mitchell.
This stand alone book is so good.
The chapters are told from the perspective of Emma, both now and in the past, her husband Alex, and Luke who was her teacher.
Luke very cleverly made friends with his pupil who had quite a tough home life. It creeped me out to be honest, seeing how easily young girls could get seduced by the attention.

I like Emma’s wedding boutique and the interactions with her sister Theresa and shop assistant Josh. There were some funny exchanges with brides-to-be!

It was so chilling in parts that it gave me goosebumps as I read. Especially when Emma was home alone and hearing things. The setting in Mersea Island meant their home got cut off by the tide at certain times, and this added tension.
Very well written and perfectly paced. There were some light-hearted parts and some really suspenseful parts of the book, it kept me turning the pages.
Silence, secrets and lies…this book has it all.

Thanks to Caroline Mitchell, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Its time to prepare for Silent Victim a highly anticipated book waiting to hit your kindle or shelf from the 1st of March 2018. What a brilliant treat all you readers can look forward too. I loved it!

Silent Victim had me hooked from the prologue and I did not want to put it down, this is a real page turner full of twists, turns and suspense. It is one of those stories that will mess with your head! The story is told through three main characters Alex, Emma and Luke. The story does flick from past to present throughout but the author has set all chapters and switches back and forth out clearly so the reader does not become confused.

The story as a whole is cleverly written, easy to read, fast paced and brilliant, it also contains short chapters. I awarded five stars for Silent Victim as it was the perfect read for myself and I cannot fault it at all. It had everything that makes a perfect mystery and thriller. I would highly recommend you all go pre order this brilliant book now or add it to your list. You will not be disappointed.

Silent Victim is thrilling, gripping and brilliant. It will have you on the edge of your seat throughout. Theres two sides to every story… Whose side will you choose?

I've never been on a rollercoaster ride but I imagine coming off of it, feels a little something like I felt when I finished reading Silent Victim : a little dizzy, maybe a tad nauseous and with legs like jelly.

Emma hasn't had an easy time but now she has a loving husband and a wonderful son. Things are looking up until her husband gets a job opportunity in Leeds and is set on moving and selling their house. Because the field at the back of their house hides a secret. It's where Emma buried the body of a teacher who seduced her when she was a teenager. Desperate to hide the traces of what she's done, Emma returns to the grave only to find the body is gone.

This brilliant plot had me guessing until the very end, scratching my head in confusion. Full of secret and lies, I found it hard to figure out who could be trusted or not, or even if Emma was a reliable narrator. I enjoyed the alternating chapters between her and her husband, Alex, as it showed quite clearly what it would have felt like to have been in his shoes.

I was gripped from the very beginning. At times, I felt quite uncomfortable. Any story involving grooming is tough to read but I feel the author tackled it brilliantly. It's frightening, haunting and heartbreaking but also incredibly engrossing. Silent Victim is a truly compelling read with some twists and turns and a red herring here and there. It held my attention throughout.

As a huge fan of the Ruby Preston series, I was somewhat sad to see that coming to an end but if it means Caroline Mitchell is coming up with stories like this one, I really can't complain. This is a psychological thriller with all the right ingredients. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend you pick up a copy as soon as you possibly can.

Caroline Mitchell's latest offering is a tense and addictive tale, steeped in mystery and suspense. I was so engrossed, I forgot to write my notes whilst reading - it's fair to say it completely takes over your thoughts. A wonderful book from a wonderful author! Silent Victim is a startling, compelling and enthralling book that you won't be able to stop reading.

Emma is a loving wife, devoted mother, caring sister. She lives life happily in her old family home, sticking to her routines, keeping a lock on the past and all its secrets. Life is fine. Life is good. But it is lived on a knife-edge. As her husband, Alex, makes plans to move them to Leeds for a fresh start, the past she has tried so hard to move on from - the death she caused and covered up - stretches fingers into the present. Memories of her old teacher - the man she murdered - linger constantly on the periphery of her thoughts, of him seducing her as a teenager, grooming her to be a silent victim to his terrifying predator. Ghosts come back to haunt her but not every ghost can be laid to rest.

Silent Victim throws punch after punch after punch, sweeping you along, drawing you in, snatching you up in its tight grip. The chapters follow Emma in her past and present, steadily offering us a picture of her life that grows more and more clear as you go through. There are some very dark, upsetting themes in this book but don't let that put you off. This is an absolute cracker of a book. Unmissable!

I found myself see-sawing back and forth whilst reading it, thinking I had solved the puzzle, then realising I wasn't even close and all the while wondering who really was telling the truth. That is something I truly love about Caroline's books. They draw you in, make you invest in the characters, in their lives, make you want to read well into the night. She is a brilliant storyteller, someone who imbues so much heart into her books! Love it!

Suspenseful. Dark. Thrilling.

I am a very big fan of Caroline Mitchell and her work. This book was different from her other books which deals more with police.

In this book it deals with a family life and a shattering of the life. It very much deals with the psychological aspects of the family .

So different but so wonderful to see a different side of their writing.

Holy flipping moly Caroline Mitchell has only gone an written another fabulous psychological thriller that's worthy of all the stars, it's a MUST read. Darkly deceptive, chilling and thrilling Silent Victim has gone straight on my top reads of 2018 list. I'm a huge fan of this author I love her style of writing and her attention to detail. Whether it be a crime or psychological thriller Caroline Mitchell knows how to grab the readers attention and this book is no different, from the “OMG” prologue to its nail biting conclusion I was well and truly hooked.

I do love an unreliable narrator and the author gives you two for the price of one, the story is told mostly from Luke the teachers POV and Emma a loving wife, and devoted mother, and shared between the past and the present. I found myself constantly looking for inconsistencies in their stories, wondering who is the more reliable of the two, which heightens the sense of unease that radiate from the pages. Reading the chapters from teacher Luke’s POV made my blood run cold, not because they were graphic, but because they give an insight into the mind of a deviant predator. As for Emma she's one mixed up lady as the plot gains momentum Emma’s life seems to spiral out of control. Either Luke or Emma is lying and Caroline Mitchell weaves one hell of a tangled web you really don't know who to trust.

I'm not going to go into plot details as all you need to know is in the book description, it's really one of those books where the less you know the more thrilling the ride. I must mention I was tempted to read the last chapter at one point as I was desperate to see where the plot was leading, I never ever do this but the more I read the more anxious I became to find out the truth. Caroline Mitchell takes familiar themes such as betrayal, infatuation, and manipulation, but like any good author she works her magic to provide the reader with a highly original and gripping psychological thriller that will literally keep you on the edge of your seat. Would I recommend this book? Yes without a shadow of doubt especially if you enjoy a psychological thriller that's very twisted.

This stand alone novel by Caroline Mitchell is a great read. I started the book very shortly after receiving it and due to the suspense built up by the author was unable to put it down.

Emma loves her husband Alex and together with her son they are moving to a new home in Leeds. But Emma has a dark secret, for a number of years she’s been hiding the dead body of Luke, the teacher who seduced her as a teen.

The book is written from the perspective of Emma, then and now, her husband Alex and Luke at the time when he was Emma's teacher. I don't want to give too much away but this psychological novel is top drawer and is a must for all suspense readers. Very good characters and a plot that is excellently paced. Even though the story is told from different characters and time frames the story was easy to follow and was a great read.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Thomas & Mercer for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

SILENT VICTIM by CAROLINE MITCHELL

Well, what can I say!! I think Caroline has become one of the best crime writers for suspense I’ve ever read. It doesn't matter whether she's writing about murders or psychological thrillers, she excels at both. I’m an avid crime reader, and read through books like a knife through butter, but her writing even leaves me bewildered and bemused. Just as you think that you’ve got it straight in your head, and who’s done what, everything takes a twist and nothing is how it seems. This book is no exception. This really is a page turner. It is 04:30 in the morning and I’m just finishing it off. Can’t wait to find out.

It starts off with a young couple and their little boy and Alex gets a job promotion meaning they have to sell up and move away to Leeds. There’s one drawback in that Emma had a stalker many years ago and she murdered him and buried him on the land, which makes it slightly difficult for prospective buyers. This in itself is very plausible as they live on an island more or less, at least where they are there are hardly any inhabitants and the whole place is cut off with the incoming tide.

However, as the story unfolds I really couldn’t make my mind up who was telling the truth.

I'll leave it up to the other readers to decide. I can't really say anymore without spoiling the story.

My thanks to Caroline and netgalley for letting me have an advanced copy of this book.
