Last night, after binge-reading Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine, I was dying to continue on. That cliff-hanger!!??

Now, since this is Book 2 in the series, I would highly recommend starting back with Book 1. Not only is it incredibly entertaining but the stories absolutely tie in together. In fact, it is a little hard to talk about Book 2 without giving away any spoilers!

Killman Creek opens pretty much where Stillhouse Lake finished, which I really appreciated. I love being able to pick up in the midst of the action. I won’t say much about the actual plot other than to note that this book has, even more, twists and turns than the first book in the series. I found myself flipping the pages as fast as I could as I devoured the story. Caine does an excellent job of weaving facts with red herrings to deceive her reader.

The narrative unfolds differently in Killman Creek as Caine allows us multiple character perspectives. This time, Gwen is not the only character with a voice. We are able to hear from both of her children and Sam Cade. I absolutely loved this. I loved the characters a bit more multidimensional and found that it added an extra layer of suspense to the plot.

Now that I have finished reading, I have no idea what Book 3 will be about and I appreciated that Caine tied up the story nicely instead of leaving me in suspense. I don’t think my heart could take it since it doesn’t come out until October. I will be waiting patiently over here until then!

If you want a suspenseful novel, then I would highly recommend this series! It sort of reminded me of Seven meets Sleeping with the Enemy. Just brilliant!

I read Stillhouse Lake just over a month ago. I loved it and with that ending, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book. I was worried that the sequel wouldn't be as good as Stillhouse Lake but thankfully, I was wrong. I enjoyed Killman Creek even more. It's fast paced, dark, suspenseful and heartbreaking. I also loved that we got different POVs in this book. A brilliant sequel that kept me hooked right through. If you enjoy suspense filled thrillers you need to read this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher (Thomas & Mercer) for the oppurtunity to read this and give an honest review.

Thanks to Amazon Publishing for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

I was so excited to be able to dive straight into this one after STILLHOUSE LAKE. Rachel Caine, how have you created such a suspenseful and addicting series?? How can I say more about the series when I don't want to spoil the end of book one?

We're back with Gwen Proctor after she saved her children from her serial killer ex-husband and those that were helping him. Just when she thinks the nightmare is over she receives a text, "You're not safe anywhere now". Her ex-husband has escaped from prison and coming for her.

I don't want to say anything more for those that have read book one but not book two yet. Rachel Caine delivers a dark and thrilling follow up to STILLHOUSE LAKE. I honestly didn't think she'd be able to top it, but damn, she blew it out of the water. We change perspectives in this one, as opposed to staying purely in Gwen's perspective in book one. The readers get to see through the eyes of Gwen, Sam (her neighbor), and her children.

If you loved STILLHOUSE LAKE then you need to pick up KILLMAN CREEK (as I'm sure you already planned on doing!). This one is darker than the first book and has some cringe-worthy moments, but it's so worth it and addicting.

Overall, if you want a fast-paced thriller filled with suspense and paranoia, then you need to add this to your TBR now. I can't wait for book three (sadly I'll have to wait!)

I give this one 5/5 stars!

Rachel Caine is a fantastic writer and when I found out she had a thriller out, I just had to get it. Stillhouse Lake as lovely, but I adored Killman Creek.

I loved that we got different points of view (POVs), it gave such a dynamic feel to the novel that I really felt was missing from Stillhouse Lake.

The mystery/thriller aspect of Killman Creek is even more exciting than SL. I was in the edge of my seat throughout the whole novel and literally could not stop reading it for a second. I mean, lunch and dinner were had whilst reading it.

The characters develop much more in KC as well and the multiple POVs allow us to understand their motivations better. I admit that KC actually made me sob at one point and that hadn’t happened in a long time. It’s hard for a book to touch me so, and I owe it all to the craft that Rachel Caine has developed. You can’t help but feel for these people and just keep reading while hoping everything will be ok.

I really don’t want to spoil anything, but you need to check out SL before diving into KC, I guarantee you won’t regret it.

I’m just glad that there is a third book in the horizon, I’m already dying for it! ;)

Melvin Royal is back. And he is batshit crazy. Everything gets worse when some videos show up, supposedly prove of Gwen’s guilt. Someone says she not only knew about the victims in her garage, she also helped her husband in kilning them. And she didn’t do it..... Or did she? Gwen desperately wants, needs her kids and Sam to believe in her innocence. But when everyone turns their back on her she knows it’s up to her to get to Melvin and make sure he’s gone forever.
This was a rollercoaster ride just after my liking. I couldn’t stop reading, wanted to scream to Connor to stop doing that, wanted to shake some sense into Lanny and I really wanted to throttle Sam. This book isn’t for sensible readers, but if your up for a thrilling ride, that makes you doubt everything you know - this is the book for you! Highly recommended! I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer!

This was such a fantastic sequel! The book was action-packed and a page turner.

Book two is just so nasty. Killman Creek shows us the dark side of humanity and the internet and it is not pretty at all and hard to digest. I shudder just thinking about it.

In this installment we get additonal POVs from Sam, Lanny and Connor which made the reading experience much more interesting as we get to see how the others perceive Gwen. Gwen's trustworthiness is questioned again and it broke my heart how Gwen was treated. But Gwen's strength in this book is phenomenal, I love how she takes matters into her own hands and doesn't let herself be hunted by Melvin Royal but instead she becomes the huntress.

Though the ending feels nicely wrapped there is potential for more and I look forward to that!

After devouring Stillhouse Lake in one sitting, I was so happy to have a copy of Killman Creek to read right away. I needed to know what was going to happen!!! SL was so good that I thought for sure KC wasn't going to top it. Boy was I wrong! The pacing is faster, the read is darker and good lawd, Rachel Caine, won't you give poor Gwen a break already?! **shakes fist**

Stillhouse Lake is from Gwen's perspective alone so we get a full on feel of her character and mindset and the author holds no punches in her paranoia and fierce love for her children. Going into Killman Creek, we now get four different perspectives, Gwen, Sam and the kids - Lanny and Connor. At first this was a bit off putting. I think most of that came from reading it back to back. As soon as I got used to this, I couldn't put the book down. The author does a fantastic job in having me feel for each of these characters. I already had great love for Gwen, but now I really got know the other characters and uff... there were some moments where I just wanted to scream, cringe and just throw the book in frustration. But hey, lets not kill my kindle, right?

I am beyond ecstatic to know there's a book three coming out. I am in a bit of a book hangover after both of these and may need something lighter in between. Maybe... 😉

Killman Creek starts off where the first book Stillhouse Lake ended. Gwen Proctor is on the run with her two children after her serial killer husband Melvin Royal breaks from jail. A lifetime ago Gwen Proctor was Gina Royal , a subdued , quiet meek housewife who had no idea that her husband was butchering innocent girls in their garage but Gwen is not Gina anymore and is ready to fight back. With the help of her friend Sam Cade and his FBI colleague Gwen decides to hunt Melvin down before he or any of his cronies hurt her or her kids.

I enjoyed the first book but I absolutely loved the second book. Rachel Caine did a wonderful job bringing forward Gwen’s intensity and her fierce desire to protect her kids at any cost. The book is narrated with different POV’s which gives us an insight to what all the characters are feeling. Some twists and turns and nonstop action makes it a great read for all suspense/thriller fans. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I would like to thank Thomas & Mercer& NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

In the second book of the Stillhouse Lake series, we are a few months on from the end of the last book, with Gwen and her kids (Lanny and Connor) on the run from her ex-husband Melvin, a serial killer who is pure evil.  He has escaped from prison and seems to have one objective, to get Gwen.
Tired of hiding, Gwen makes a decision.  Along with her friend Sam (whose sister, Melvin murdered) she is going to go on the offensive.  Leaving her kids with friends, she heads out, determined to find Melvin and end things once and for all.
Finding him, though, proves more difficult than they might have thought, with the trail leading them across country and into some dangerous situations with men you wouldn’t want to cross on a good day.  It means a tense story, one with twists, turns and “I didn’t see that coming” moments.  I loved this bit of the book.
However, it also separates the family unit, and I’m not sure I was as keen on that.  I’m in mixed minds if I’m honest.  It made for a different story from the first, where Gwen was busy protecting her kids, which I liked.  But it also meant a lack of interaction between them, which I didn’t – I felt there was a bit of energy missing as a result, something that had made the first book for me.
It’s a hard one because I still enjoyed the book a lot and I would recommend it to anyone who asked.  It’s well written, with the story being told by Gwen, Sam, Lanny and Connor – who all have different voices and perspectives – and there is a pace there that kept me turning pages.  I think it’s just that I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the first one….argh!
Is there anyone else out there who has read both books and feel the same or am I suffering from “over-excitement-itus” by looking forward to this book too much?

Melvin Royal is out and on the hunt for Gwen and the kids. Keeping safe and hidden is almost impossible with Absalom assisting Melvin at every turn. So, Gwen and Sam decide to go on the offensive, while leaving her kids, Lanny and Connor with Javier and Kenzia to keep safe.

There’s no doubt that Killman Creek was an exciting, on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of read, I read this in one day because I couldn’t put it down. I can’t really say I enjoyed it, though, because it was gruesome in parts and pretty intense. Also, I wasn’t happy with the characters. Evidence conveniently surfaces that again casts doubt on Gwen, was she Melvin’s Little Helper after all? Instead of waiting to see if it was fabricated, there was an immediate rush to judgement. After all they’d been through in the last book, their quick loss of faith in Gwen was super disappointing.

I don’t know if I could’ve forgiven Sam for what he did in the end. It was a complete betrayal that was just swept under the rug in the end. To me, there should’ve been a lot more talk on the subject and a lot more groveling, maybe I could’ve come to terms with it then, but the way it was quickly shoved aside and forgotten didn’t sit well with me. Gwen was amazing, but I thought she accepted that crappy treatment way too easily. I suppose it was from the lingering guilt of feeling like she should’ve known what her ex-husband was up to when he was killing all those women, but still.

There’s a third book coming in the series, not sure what it’ll be about since things are wrapped up here, but I would like to see Sam, Gwen, and the kids in the future. Maybe some of my lingering disappointment with the characters actions and reactions will be put to rest then. It’s hard to rate this since I had big time issues with the characters, but I can’t ignore that it was a compelling thriller, one I didn’t want to put down. I think it’s somewhere between 2-3 stars for me.

I usually only read paranormal/fantasy/dystopian genres, but every once in a while an author I enjoy branches out and I like to give their new books a try. That is what happened when I read STILLHOUSE LAKE, book one in the Stillhouse Lake series. I loved it and when KILLMAN CREEK came up on Netgalley, I knew I had to read it and because I loved it I am sharing it with you.

KILLMAN CREEK gives us the added bonus of getting into some of the other characters heads with multiple POVs. It was easier to understand their emotions and thinking better and added another aspect to the story—even if I wanted to kick them in the head for some of the thinking they were doing.

Melvin has escaped from jail and on the hunt for Gwen and her children. The organization helping Melvin was so much bigger than I thought it would be and I was shocked with all that was revealed about it.

I was a little more emotional while reading KILLMAN CREEK than I was with book one and trust me, I was plenty emotional with STILLHOUSE LAKE. It was hard reading about Gwen's struggles. She was the bad guy quite a bit in the book when she shouldn't have been and my heart broke—like my heart hurt people!— with every word, accusation and emotion that was flung at her.

Again, KILLMAN CREEK is book two in a series and it is NOT paranormal or fantasy, but you should really give this series a shot. Things were wrapped up quite nicely at the end of book two, so I'm not quite sure where things will go in book three. It doesn't matter though because WOLFHUNTER RIVER is already on my wishlist.

I want to thank the Publisher,, Thomas and Mercer and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for honest review.

I did not read the first book in the series, " Stillhouse Lake," but that did not matter too much. The author, Rachel Caine has written “ Killman Creek”, with enough references to the story line from book 1. This book is a fast paced, psychological thriller, that will keep you reading past your bedtime,, at least I did. Gwen is in a race to find her husband, Melvin Royal, a serial killer who has escaped jail, to not only stop him from killing more innocent woman but also her family.
This story besides the horrific nature of the crimes really brings home the torment and pain that families of criminals go through especially the children, That part of the story got to me the most. The struggles and psychological turmoil that Connor and Lanny have to go through when their life has been torn apart and coming to terms that their father was a monster who could not be trusted and the public vilifying that their mother had to endure and then the doubts about their own mother. Often we,the public, are so quick to condemn without regard to the families who are victims as well.
I highly recommend this book!

If you are looking for a super chilling suspense story, this is the book for you. Author Rachel Caine has written a powerful, riveting thriller with lots of suspense. In this story there is lots of action and surprises. There's also lots of evil. Rachel Caine's excellent descriptions and writing style paint a vivid picture where I could almost smell the evil, hear the evil and feel the evil. I also read the first book in this series, Stillhouse Lake which I feel is necessary to appreciate and follow everything that occurs in Killman Creek. Stillhouse Lake is also a superb and well-written thriller. I highly recommend both books.

I voluntarily read an ARC provided through NetGalley for an honest review.

WOW! Killman Creek is a high energy, intense, psychological thriller that will take you through a maze and keep you guessing. Poor Gwen can’t catch a break. She finds out that there are people even worse than her ex out there. I never want to be a Rachel Caine character but I sure love reading about them.

I read this right after reading the first one, Stillhouse Lake, which is one of my favorites of the year. If I had waited longer to read the second one, I think I would have liked it quite a bit more. However, it was rather flat in comparison to SHL. There was less real story to tell, fewer things actually happening, so it seemed like the author added more violence and f-word to fill in the blank space. Not the author's best work, I'd say.

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer for a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Buy it. RIGHT NOW. Don't wait, don't ask questions. BUY IT.

Buy this series. Seriously, right now. GO BUY THIS BOOK AND THE FIRST ONE.

Okay, fine. I'll tell you why you should buy it.

I loved the first book, Stillhouse Lake, and was both excited and apprehensive to read this one. I mean, the first book was so damn good I didn't see how the second could possibly measure up. Happily, I was wrong.

Like the first book, "Killman Creek" is intense, suspenseful, and heartbreaking. People can be such shits to each other. Gwen's ex-husband Melvin is still tracking Gwen and the kids, and their life is chaos again. After the events in "Stillhouse Lake", they are again on the move, rootless. They have allies but the alliance is weak, and with one exception, doesn't hold when the crap hits the fan.

In "Stillhouse Lake", the story was told purely from Gwen's POV but in "Killman Creek" we get four POVs - Gwen, her daughter Lanny, her son Connor, and their ally Sam. While both books give us a look at the family of a serial killer and what their life is like after his capture, this book takes that up several notches with the POVs of the children. I said in my review of book 1 that Gwen made hard choices where the well-being of her kids were concerned and in this book, we get to see first hand the effects of her actions and those of their father. My heart broke for the kids even when I wanted to yell at them they were being stupid. The alternating POVs added layers of depth and emotion to the story, and it was particularly interesting to see things from Sam's POV since his sister was a victim of Gwen's ex-husband Melvin.

Caine gave us a hard-hitting, engrossing story full of twists and turns and a hard look at what people are capable of, both good and bad. The storytelling is rich, detailed, complex, and a delight. It's not a happy story, though it has moments of happiness, and humor, but reading it filled me with joy. While Caine wraps up the major plot points, there is a third book coming next year and I'm already counting down the days. "Killman Creek" is a top-notch thriller and one of the best books of 2017.

A couple of months ago I read Stillhouse Lake and really enjoyed it and after the way it ended I was dying to get my hands on a copy of Killman Creek. I ended up liking this one even more than the first, it was exciting, tense and the type of page turner that kept me up way past my bedtime.

WARNING! Stop reading here if you haven’t read book one because there will be some spoilers. So when SL ended Gwen’s sadistic ex husband had managed to escape from prison and she knew he was coming for her and her kids. The intensity throughout this book was incredible since Gwen and her kids were being hunted and as much as I had feared for their safety the first time around, it didn’t hold a candle to my anxiety this time! Knowing that a man as twisted as Melvin Royal was looking for the family made this an epic page turner, and there were SO many creepy moments and great action scenes that I just could not stop reading.

This has a twisty plot so I don’t want to say much more, but this book reminded me of Chelsea Cain in terms of style, it had that same cat and mouse vibe that her books have, which I love. I appreciated that Caine didn’t torture me with another cliffhanger ending and now I’m beyond curious what the story will be for book three?! It’s not out until next fall and there’s not even a blurb yet but you can guarantee that no matter what it’s about, I’ll be reading it!
