The book has interesting characters, a great plot and leaves enough unknown at the end to want to read the next book.
Dead Girl Running is a tense, fast-paced page-turner. I read it in one sitting! The characters are interesting and complex, and the plot kept me guessing. I loved the ending and did not see it coming. This is the first book I've read by Christina Dodd, and I definitely want to read more.
bookish friends, this was terrible! With the ending being a cliff-hanger, and all the damn info dumbs through out this book. I couldn't get into it. I was confused and lost, the romance was blah, very low burn. Yes it was filled with twist and turns but it for me was awful. I go to 40% and I put it down, for ages! I tend to start something and finish it with in a few days, but this I didn't want to pick up again. I didn't like the way the characters will all introduced like if you were to write bullet point notes. it took me away from the book. I don't think I would continue with this series, I skimmed to the end., Also I found that I should have read the authors pervious work to understand this some.
I have never read Christina Dodd before and now realize what I've been missing. Loved the characters, just enough romance & kept me guessing until the end. Can't wait for the next in the series!! Thank you to NetGalley & Harlequin for the advance copy.
Dead GIrl Running by Christina Dodd comes out next month. I enjoy this author, so I was very happy that Harlequin changed their mind and allowed me to preview the book. I found the story interesting and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Kellen Adams works for a hotel on the Pacific Coast in a place called Yearning Sands. She was the assistant manager left in charge while the owners went on vacation. As a main character, she is a complicated person. Kellen survived an abusive husband, a missing year, living on the streets, a stint in the army and eventually a new place to live and be at home. Meanwhile, not all is easy going at the hotel, smuggling, a murder, and a murder mystery weekend, flashing lights and missing people. So many twists and turns made the story intense. Information is slowly leaked out as the story moves between the past and the present.
Dead Girl Running by Christina Dodd is the first book in a new series called Cape Charade. I liked many of the characters. The book takes place near Virtue Falls, another series by the same author. There was a small overlap of a character, but certainly not enough take away from the story if you haven’t read any other of her novels. Dead Girl Running by Christina Dodd is a good read!
Dead Girl Running by Christina Dodd is an intriguing mystery. One that propelled me further into a deadly investigation. Imagine not knowing a year's worth of your life...that would prove hard to live with knowing that the killer could be someone the character knows. Intrigue, suspense, and drama added up as I traveled deeper in this book. My curiosity peaked. Kellen Adams is the main protagonist who is searching for answers to murders when her life is a mystery itself. The plot was engaging. I wanted to follow Kellen Adams everywhere and find out everything. Fear washed over me as I was not sure what would happen as Kellen got closer to her answers. Overall, I found this novel very entertaining. So many possibilities and what ifs...went through my mind as the danger got closer.
I was immediately drawn into Dead Girl Running and enjoyed every page from start to finish.
The cover and the blurb are fabulous!
Since I'm a travelholic, the way the hotel and location were described had me wishing to visit that resort even if a dead body was found on the beach.
The characters were believable and leaves me hoping that this will be a series so I can get to know more about them. I'm also wanting now to go back and read her other series because I noticed the connections to her other characters and books.
Do I recommend this book - absolutely! Enjoy the read!
An interesting and brilliant story, with some great twists and an ending that you will never guess! This is exactly what I felt with this story!Even without a cliffhanger ending we are left wanting more! The main character Kellen experienced a traumatic event in her life that haunts her !Throughout the novel, you get glimpses of her past and who she used to be !I like this part in the story because I think it helped me a lot with the story!
This is a great start to a new series, and was so wonderful to catch up with old characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is the start of a new series for Christina but it loosely ties back to her Virtue Falls and Belle Terra books. I love Christine’s books but this was not my favorite. The way she presented information about characters, describing them more like file in a police report, was distracting and annoying for me. There was a lot going on in the book and I was sometimes confused. I also didn’t really bond with the main characters in the story, but I will continue to read this author. I want to thank net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book.
Solid 4/5 stars! Full review to follow closer to publication date
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
If you enjoy the Virtue Falls series, then you will love the Cape Charade series!
Priscilla Carter came to Yearning Sands to be the assistant manager for the resort owned by Di Luca's. Priscilla has other ambitions and often is called out for her inappropriate behavior. On one of those nights, she was taken to task after a complaint, Priscilla couldn't sleep. She saw someone come by boat and drop off a package and went to investigate. On a whim, she took the package with a plan to extort money in exchange for the package. She left a note, and stashed the package. Priscilla soon realized, she was in over her head and decided to leave.
The Di Luca's hired another assistant manager to replace Priscilla. A U.S. Army veteran, Kellen Adams. Kellen has brought with her some of her friends, who served with her. Kellen also has a past, that she is protecting. When the Di Luca's leave for a rare vacation, and put her in charge, Kellen is about to get more than she bargained for, and she's not sure who to trust.
I can't wait to read for book two! This was a fast paced thriller, and the ending actually made me tear up with the unexpected surprise.
This work is loosely connected to at least 2 other Dodd works but is a completely new story to begin a new series.
Kellen has come to the North Pacific Coast to be as far away from her past as possible. She is desperate for a new beginning and her new employers believe in her. Amazingly they have left her in charge after only a cursory training and almost immediately the trouble starts. A body is discovered on the grounds.
Sorting through the wealth of information and misinformation is a daunting task for both Kellen and the reader alike. Take your time and take good mental notes. She will need to find someone to trust but Kellen hasn't known any of these people long enough to make an informed decision. When the second body turns up, the circle of trust is shaken again. Who can she believe?
Even without a cliffhanger ending we are left wanting more. Kellen's story is not over and our cast of characters does not want to be forgotten so soon.
This unfortuunately was a dnf for me. I found the story to be somewhat far fetched. I have loved previous Christina Dodd novels In the past and look forward to the next one.
This is the first Christina Dodd book I've read and I loved it! This was an excellent romantic suspense and it kept me guessing right to the end.
Kellen is a mystery. She has just started as the assistant resort manager after leaving the military when a dead body has been found and smugglers are running amuck. She doesn't remember her entire history and she is hiding what she knows. ARC from NetGalley.
This was an exciting and thrilling read! Would love to read more by Christina Dodd.
Will publish review closer to publication date, but want to encourage readers to enjoy previous books by Christina Dodd prior to latching onto this one. This "ties in" loosely with her Virtue Falls books. I think "Dead Girl Running" works as a standalone novel, but then again I have thread the previously mentioned series.
For those who HAVE read previous Christina Dodd books, dive in and enjoy. Excellent book!
This story was great and pretty intense. It was interesting that this new series is tied to both the Virtue Falls books and the Bella Terra books. I haven't read the Bella Terra series in so long, that I had a hard time remembering anything about them. I really liked Kellen. She was a very engaging character.
This book had me all types of confused. I am a big fan of Christina Dodd and I love her books. This book combined some characters from her virtual falls books (mentions only) and her Bella Terra books. The reason for my confusion was the way the flashbacks were presented and the point of view. The main character Kellen experienced a traumatic event in her life that haunts her just as the missing year in her memory also haunts her. Throughout the novel, you get glimpses of her past and who she used to be which is fine. However, the character development seemed off because it seemed like her past was her present and didn't jibe with her growth that happened after the traumatic event. The situations that she was exposed to afterwards should have changed her mentality but it seemed that instead she reverted back. There are moments when I could catch of glimpse of who she is now but then something else would happen and she would react the opposite of the way I expected. It is usually a good thing when an author can give me something unexpected but in this case, I felt more confused and unsure of the character. I enjoyed the book. There were some unexpected funny moments but it was mostly a straight forward read. It did not move me one way or the other. It was a good read but I had higher expectations for the characters. The ending alone makes me want to read another book but I'm not sure how this would continue. I did love the suspense in the book but the romance needed some more work. I could hardly tell if there were sparks between the characters and if I should be rooting for one couple or the another. If you're a fan of her work, you might enjoy this. However if you are trying out a new author, for Christina Dodd books, I would suggest you start with her Bella Terra series.
