When a family is found murdered in their home with their teenage daughter missing, it’s up to Detective D.D. Warren to solve the case. But, is the missing teen girl a victim or the perpetrator? The more she looks into the family’s troubled past the more unsure D.D. is. But Detective Warren isn’t the only one looking in to the case Flora Dane, a survivor now vigilante is also looking for the girl.
This is my first Lisa Gardner book but, I know it will not be my last. I loved it. Right from the start Look For Me hooked me in and I couldn’t put it down. This is actually the ninth book in the Detective D.D. Warren series, something I didn’t realise when I picked it up, however, although I have not read the previous books this didn’t detract from or hinder my understanding of the main story. However, there is history between the characters within the book where I didn’t understand the subtext or previous events, which means I am definitely going to go to book one and catch up.
Detective Warren and Flora Dane are both really strong female leads, Warren is a seasoned detective who is looking at the crime from a more analytical standpoint and Dane is a survivor of victimisation who helps other people in similar situations. They both a suspicious of one another but willing to aid each other finding the missing sixteen year old girl whose family has been murdered. Warren because she is a suspect and Dane because she believes she’s a victim.
But, although I loved the main character in this book, it was the story that had me glued to my kindle. With each piece of the past that is revealed, through Dane and Warrens investigations and also a set of heart breaking essays written by the teen, more questions are raised and more suspects are revealed. It was a nail biting story that also really pulled on the heart strings as you wonder how many more awful things could happen to one person, especially as aspects of the story reflect real life more than you would want them to.
This was a fantastic thriller with some strong leading characters and a powerful story line. I can’t wait to read more Lisa Gardner.
I enjoyed the addition of Flora Dane and her relationship with D.D. Warren. The subject matter got a little rough in this one, which made it hard to enjoy the book. All in all it was an entertaining read, but can't say it was my favorite in this series.
This book was an entertaining/depressing/fast-paced thriller. There is s race to find the missing family member of a murder family of 5. I love Detective D.D. and victim turned avenger Flora together. They have a great banter/snarkiness between them that alleviated the seriousness/foster care/child abuse them of the story. I especially love Flora. She's such a real character. Dealing with her past and wanting to help other victims. I wish i could actually meet these two characters.
Lisa Gardner is a fantastic author that always delivers. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I definitely this book for pulse pounding/staying up way post your bedtime reading.
*I would like to thank the author/publisher/NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*
Gardner has secured herself a new hit with another classic D.D. Warren in her new release Look for Me. I love how Gardner stays true to her characters but manages to reinvent them with every new book in the series so it stays fresh and entertaining.
This book was creepy and chilling which scores points with me. As I try to review this book I am realizing I cant say enough good things about it. This book was a book that made me lose sleep and trust me I like my sleep. Highly recommend. This is an author I will continue reading.

I have enjoyed every book I've read by Lisa Gardner, so I was thrilled to read her newest book, Look for Me. Detective D.D. Warren arrives to a horrible crime scene that was once a family home. Four of the five family members are dead and one is missing. Was it a coincidence that 16 year-old, Roxy, was away from her home at the time of the murder? Does it mean something more? Survivor-turned-avenger Flora Dane shows up on the case to find out and assist D.D. Warren in a different way. Together the odd pair work to make sense of the clues and figure out if Roxy is the suspect behind the murdered family she left behind. Lisa Gardner's writing always draws me in from the very beginning and she does an incredible job developing the characters and the plot line. I can never predict what the outcome will be...and I certainly didn't with this book! *This book is part of a series (which is so good!) but it's not necessary to read the others to read this one*
DD Warren is trying to find out who has killed the Baez family. Mother, Justine; her boyfriend, Charlie; her youngest daughter, Lola; and her only son, Manny. But there is another child, Roxanna, as well as two dogs, Rosie and Blaze. Where are they? Did Roxanna do this to her family? If so, why? But Roxy was the protector of the family. Her mom is a recovering alcoholic and when she was drinking Roxy made sure her siblings ate and made it to school. When the state took the kids away from Justine for a year, this role for Roxy became more prominent. After that year, the girls were never the same. Did something happen during their year in foster care that could have warranted this kind of violence? Will DD be able to find the person or people responsible for this before more people are killed? Will her new CI, Flora Dane prove to be helpful or detrimental to this case?
Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.
When I made the request from NetGalley for this book, I was intrigued by the description and didn't know that this was the 9th book in the series. I don't think that I needed to read the entire series to get into this book, but I'm sure the background on some of the characters would have been helpful. So, I'm definitely going to go back now and read the rest of the series.
Can you imagine coming home and finding your whole family dead? Your younger sister clutching your brother in order to protect him from a crazy killer? How do you come back from that? Over the course of a few days Detective DD Warren is trying to find out who could do such a thing to this family. With the help of confidential informant, Flora Dane, will they be able to find the killer as well as find Roxana before it's too late. Who would want to hurt these people? What did they do? So many questions and the answers can't come fast enough, until they all do come crashing into one another in one fell swoop.
I can't wait to read more books in this series.
Detective D.D Warren is back and, this time, she has brought Find Me’s Flora Dane with her for the ride in the ninth instalment of the Detective D.D Warren series by Lisa Gardner, Look For Me. I loved Find Me so I was thrilled to find out that Flora Dane would be back in this D.D Warren novel. I found her character completely fascinating and loved her “kill or be kill, seek revenge” attitude. Fast paced and intricate, Gardner has done it again with her newest publication!
The novel opens with a family of four savagely murdered, a teenage girl, Roxy, is missing and police desperate for leads. Is Roxy in need of help or is she the perpetrator? Detective Warren is on the scene with the help of her new sidekick, Flora Dane. I loved the banter between Warren and Dane. They really cracked me up and I feel like they will be a brilliant new partnership moving forward in the series. Warren’s serious need for rule following and Dane’s offbeat justice are the perfect juxtaposition.
I found this novel to be incredibly entertaining and I was completely addicted to the storyline but found it a lot less “thrilling” than Find Me. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved the story and I was glued to the pages but I feel that fans of Find Me, who are looking for that same type of FEEL that Find Me had, may find themselves a bit disappointed. Dane is fairly well behaved throughout this novel and seems to be more of a law-abiding citizen. The plot is fairly straightforward, well developed, but straightforward. I didn’t mind this at all.
This is the ninth novel in the series but I had no problems following along (in fact, the only other D.D Warren novel I had read previously was Find Me) so this can absolutely be read as standalone.
A great, entertaining crime read that I think crime fiction fans will absolutely enjoy.
The latest in Lisa Garner's DD Warren series doesn't disappoint. Warren is teaming up with Flora Dane to dive into a troubled family's circumstances. Fast paced, believable characters.
Another Lisa Gardner masterpiece! The author kept me guessing whodunit until the very suspenseful end. Roxy made my heart hurt for all those children in foster care out there. The childhood bullies, Anya and Roberto, were hauntingly familiar to current day bullying issues. I know this was foster care, but the author made this situation very real and believable and horrible. I found Roxy's "perfect family" essays haunting and nicely dispersed throughout the text. The point of view flipping between Detective DD and Flora was a nice touch
Boston Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren is back in Lisa Gardner's Look for Me, called to a crime scene, where four members of a family of five have been slaughtered, and the fifth is missing - is sixteen-year-old Roxanna Baez a survivor or the killer?
For whatever reason, I've never been able to finish a D.D. Warren audiobook. Now I see that I should have read the actual books. Look For Me is incredible. I give it 5 stars, and I'm not even finished. The book is told from two perspectives: Detective D.D. Warren in the third person, and Flora in the first person. The detective is struggling to solve a grisly murder of an entire family, while stumbling through remaining a part of her own family. Flora is struggling to find a missing teenager from the murdered family, while finding her way in the real world as the survivor of over a year in captivity at the hands of a maniac. Flora is blunt in words, sharp in thought. I love her. I can't wait to read every other book in this series.
Detective D. D. Warren is back and she is investigating a mass family murder. Five member of a family are dead and the sixteen year old daughter Roxy is missing. D.D. has to determine if Roxy is the victim or the murderer with very little evidence.
Flora Dane is running a web base survivor support group and discovers that Roxy has been visiting the private discussion board. Determine to help Roxy, Flora initiates herself into the case. To keep things above board and to keep Flora reporting to her D. D. makes Flora a CI.
Flora and D.D. are a fordable team and keep everyone on their toes. As you read near the end of the book a certain character has a bad day with duct tape, made an evil smile come to my lips. I enjoyed this book with the suspense and the twists! It was a page turner and I finished in 2 settings.
I have never read any of Lisa Gardner’s books and this one has characters from past books which if I had read, would have made a lot more of some side stories understandable. But I did enjoy this outing very much and am going to have to go back now and read the others.
A family is found shot dead. The 16 year old daughter and their two dogs are missing. Is she the suspect? Is she fleeing for her own life? These are the questions and so much more that are answered. Flora Dane, a survivor of a horrific crime, goes on the search herself since Roxanne, the teenage girl, had been on her survivor site recently. She matches up with Det. D.D. Warren again to solve the crime. (If D.D. likes it or not)
There were so many levels in this story that went to quite a few diverse places. Some I wasn’t expecting at all. Lisa Gardner can write about the devious mind in the same perfect fashion as a mind that is lost in sadness. I did not expect the outcome and found it to really complete the story full circle.
I will read more from Ms. Gardner. Thanks to Penguin Random House for this book.
Detective D.D. Warren arrives to a devastating scene. Uniformed officers, police cruisers, and yellow tape cordon off the home of a family of five. Four members have been murdered and the fifth — a sixteen-year-old girl — is missing. Unsure whether the teen narrowly escaped with her life or played a role in the tragedy, D.D. hunts for the girl while trying to piece together the family’s final moments. However, the detective isn’t the only one searching for the truth, so is survivor and vigilante Flora Dane. Both women want justice, but each has a different idea of what it looks like.
Look for Me delivers an adrenaline-charged page turner. Lisa Gardner pens a heart-wrenching tale of mistakes, second chances, and survival. Intricate characters pulled me in and had me vacillating between rooting for their escapes or captures. I did strongly suspect the killer’s identity early on, but the author had me second guessing myself a couple times.
Gardner masterfully toys with the reader’s emotions as D.D. and Flora uncover the events that led to the family’s murder. It felt like watching a car zoom straight for a cliff and being unable to stop it. The reader knows from the start that the family dies but desperately wants to find a way to prevent it.
I highly recommend that Look for Me stay within its intended audience as it contains strong language and mature content. Though it is number nine in the D.D. Warren series, it easily stands alone. To understand Flora Dane, you might want to read Find Her first, but it is not imperative to follow this story. Gardner and D.D.’s fans won’t want to miss this latest installment.
This is the first Lisa Gardner book I’ve read, but it certainly won’t be the last. It grabbed me from the first sentence and held me all the way through. She has a definite knack for keeping the suspense high.
Though Look for Me by Lisa Gardner was at times painful and difficult to read, I feel its a wonderful book. Though its a novel it focuses on the plight of foster children who are placed in unsupervised homes. They are put through frightening and difficult situations. The children's court experience was painful to read I recommend this book to everyone. It is more than a story but seems to relate what is wrong with of social justus system..
Menacing, creepy, and twisty!
In this latest novel by Gardner, Look For Me, Detective D.D. Warren finds herself reluctantly partnering once again with the victim-turned-vigilante Flora Dane on a horrifying case involving a family slaughtered and a missing teen.
The writing style is crisp and intense. The characters, including the hardworking, determined heroine, are well-developed, scarred, and troubled. And the plot is a well-paced, police procedural full of suspects, clues, deduction, abuse, exploitation, manipulation, gang violence, and murder.
Look For Me is the ninth novel in the Detective D.D. Warren series and is a heart wrenching, compelling mystery that highlights Gardner’s impressive research into all the limitations, deficiencies, maltreatment, and neglect found in the American foster care system.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
First of all, many thanks to Dutton/Penguin Random House for providing me with an advance review copy of this book via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Second of all, I LOVED this book. I cannot believe it is the first time I've read anything by Lisa Gardner, or that I waited so long to do so!!!
Look For Me, told in alternating viewpoints, is the story of a family that gets murdered in their home, but their 2 dogs and a 16 year old daughter (Roxanna) have gone missing. Thus beginning the investigation of who killed the family and where have Roxanna and the two dogs gone?
This book has such an intricate plot, and there is more to it than the quadruple murder and missing girl aspect. Look For Me begins with Sarah who is a college student when her roommates are murdered by a psychopath; Sarah being the only survivor. And Flora, who was kidnapped off a beach at the age of 18 while on spring break, and held captive for 472 days by a rapist and murderer. Flora and Sarah both end up helping Warren (in their own way) with the police investigation for Roxanna, and we get their viewpoints as well as Boston Sergeant Detective D.D. Warren.
Look For Me has all of the qualities that I look for in a book. Relatively short chapters, pretty much constant action and/or mystery, multiple viewpoints, character depth, and an ending I didn't see coming. I didn't dislike a thing about this book which is pretty uncommon for me!
Look For Me is number 9 of the Detective D.D. Warren books, but I didn't feel confused at all while reading it. Apparently this is actually Flora's second appearance as well, but everything is told so well (and with enough backstory), that I didn't feel like I was missing much of anything.
I was in tears at the end, and my heart broke at many different points in this novel. So be warned there are some pretty emotional parts, and even more heavy topics besides murder.
I've seen mixed reviews for this book, but what book is for everyone? It just worked for me on so many levels, and it felt like an incredibly fast read. Pacing, plot, and characters were on point in my opinion.
Final Thought: PSA, there is a bit of gore in this book (this IS about a quadruple homicide after all), and there are also some mentions/insinuations of abuse, neglect, and rape. I thought this novel was very suspenseful, and there is so much going on with any given character, plus the police investigation, that I was never bored. This book read really well as a standalone which I appreciate, but I still can't wait to read the rest of this series. If you are on the fence about starting it, or it's a ways back in your TBR, I totally suggest moving it up. Gardner officially has me hooked!
Another great book from Gardner. I love when you bring back characters from past books and I am really hoping this with become a team effort from time to time. How about Tessa Flora and DD! Loved this book as I do with all Lisa Gardners books you just can't go wrong with these!
