This was a pleasant book to read. You cared for the characters and wanted only the best for them. Each chapter would be about a certain character. It reminded me of reading Maeve Binchy.
If you enjoy romance novels then this is for you.
I tried and failed to get in to this book. There is a lot of chick lit about a young 20 something girl who loves books / works in a book shop and this didn't feel different enough to those other reads to hook my interest.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutre for an e-ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. I love reading and I love the reading life, so I'm a sucker for a book about reading or books! This was such a nice surprise. I wasn't familiar with the author, and it was so well done. The characters were so well developed. I enjoyed them, and felt I knew them. I feel that anyone could identify with the characters, as it covers all ages and storylines. Take my advice: Add this to your list.
Lucy’s Little Village Book Club by Emma Davies
Source: Netgalley
My Rating: 5/5 stars
You all know how fond I am of character-driven reads and Emma Davies hit it out of the ballpark for me with her Lucy’s Little Village Book Club! Just so you know, I’m about to rave about the characters in this book. Hold on to your hats 😊
Lucy: as the local librarian, Lucy is familiar and friendly with each and every one of her patrons, but she has a small group of favorites, members of her book club whom she knows considerably more. With each weekly meeting, Lucy learns more about the people she now considers her friends and wants nothing more than to help each one.
Callum: Though young, just 19, Callum is a romantic at heart whose family is most unsupportive and somewhat abusive. Callum spends his days at the library where he is able to use his considerable computer skills to help other patrons. The more Lucy asks Callum for his help, the closer the two become, and it isn’t long before Callum has found something of the family he craves in Lucy’s family.
Lia: Since her father left, Lia has been responsible for her ailing mother’s care. Alzheimer’s is tremendously devastating disease and with each passing day, Lia sees her mother slip a little further away. Lia’s only real time away from her mother are the weekly book club meetings, where, one bright afternoon she confesses to the group her desire to dance. As it so often does, Fate (along with Lucy!) decides to intervene and brings Lia both a wonderful and terrible surprise.
Hattie: Hattie is the new girl in the group and in town. After an ugly broken engagement and an estrangement with her own mother, Hattie decided it was time for a change for she and her young daughter. Hattie is bright and creative, but has struggled with her confidence and self-esteem. After being asked by Lucy to help make Lia’s dream of dancing come true, Hattie begins to come out of her shell and once again find some of her old spark and fire. Through the process, she even finds a new business venture which will allow she and her daughter to live comfortably in their new home and town.
Oscar: Oscar is the oldest member of the group and perhaps the one member most in need of the others. After decades of marriage to his one true love, Oscar has only recently found himself alone and desperately missing his wife. What’s more, for the entirety of his marriage, Oscar and his wife kept something of a secret from the world, and now, with his wife’s passing, Oscar has decided to bring the secret to light and do something about its original outcome. Of course, he’s going to need a bit of help and Callum is just the person to do so.
As the story of each book club member unfolds, there are certainly ups and downs, unexpected events, and moments of pure sadness and joy. Each book club members learns valuable lessons, but the most important of which is their absolute ability to rely on one another for comfort, support, and friendship.
The Bottom Line: This book is pure delight and I had a very hard time putting it down to sleep. Every character is so real, so full of life, so vibrant, and imminently likeable. The connections between each character is all ready established at the beginning of the book and simply continue to strengthen and grow as the plot unfolds. I generally find a character or two in every book who shines above the others, but that didn’t happen here; each and every character is as likeable as the other and I was all but desperate to see how each one’s story ended. This is absolutely a standalone read, but I found myself hoping at the end, that perhaps, just perhaps, there may be more in store for Lucy’s Little Village Book Club 😊
I shall not lie i didn't enjoy this book, i didn't like any of the characters and the storyline seemed rushed.
This is a charming delightfully fun book. I love the premise of friends that gather around the library and how the library binds the community together. It's a perfect story for all those that love books . I look forward to the next book by this author.
Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my review
This is a sweet heartwarming read to pull you in, which is set in the local Library as a book club, who wouldn't want a local book club? This is my first read by this author so i didn't know what to expect, but it was a nice easy read but took a while to get involved. Lucy who funds the book club is the girl who wants to help all the other workers dreams by helping them get what they want....
It has 5 main characters so you will take some time understanding each one and their issues.... Firstly, there is Lia who has always dreamed of becoming a dancer but circumstances prevailed her from such a beautiful career but she has to care for her poorly mother so she can't ditch her for the dancing can she?
Hattie, another woman at the book club who be friends Lia and tries to help her..... she is a single mother and is making her sisters dream come true by making her wedding dress, however, her mum is a disaster towards her.
Callum is the quiet 19 year old boy, he changes considerably through the story... Jasper turns up in the story and seems to help Lia in more ways than one.
Now with the main characters and plentitude of them, it does some time to get to know each one of them because each chapter fleets from one to another so you get their information but with 5 it can take a while.
It isn't a fast pace read for me.... as it wasn't the style i am used to by certain authors i generally read but i didn't quit it, i read it fully and took my time..... i would give this 4 stars.
I would like to thank net galley and bookouture for this book.
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. This is a cute book - a feel-good, lighthearted novel with thoughtful moments and likable characters. I would love to hang at Lucy’s village book club myself! At times predictable, but it was the perfect lighthearted read to ring in the new year. A great author for fans of Sophie Kinsella and Jill Mansell.
I deeply enjoyed this story of friendship that was built on the back of a library book club. Each character was interesting and lovable. The journey each character walked through was intriguing and kept me coming back to see where their story was headed. I definitely recommend this book, especially for a cozy winter read!
I have enjoyed so much reading this sweet clean romance. Looking forward for other books by this author
3.5 Stars.
Lucy has abandoned her goal of becoming a teacher and has, instead, taken a job at the local library. She loves her job and the people that she meets each day. She starts a book club that blooms into more than just book talks. The members become friends and, with a little push from Lucy, each begins to realize their own dreams.
This is a sweet book. It is a quick read with lovable characters and I highly recommend it for a light read.
I received this book through Netgalley, com in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley.com, to Bookouture, and to Emma Davies for this opportunity.
This was a really enjoyable, light read! The characters were engaging and felt quite real and though the story was a little predictable, I thought it was lovely!
Emma Davies' newest book deals with serious themes, while still being uplifting! I am a big fan of her other books, and this one was no exception. One of the major locations of the book is a library and all of characters get close because of a book club, so it's a book lovers dream! Although the members of the club don't really realize it, they each have their own issues and problems they are hiding from the main group. And they each help the others in both ways they know and unknowingly. They need each other! Included in this feel-good read are friendships, misunderstandings, romance, forgiveness and second chances. I recommend it highly to readers of this genre! And of course it will be great for Book Club discussions.
**Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Emma Davies for an ARC to read and honestly review**
I've read one of Emma's other books but I have to say this one is my favourite. It seemed to have more depth to it than her other one. The vast array of characters and their stories were brilliant to get my teeth into. I thought the storyline was lovely and I really really enjoyed inhabiting this world.
I immediately want to go and work in a library after reading this book. Lucy has the dream job! This is a wonderful story about one woman librarian, and her quest to right the lives of the fellow members of her local library's book club. Lucy sees the problems or struggles of each person in her club, and tries to find something to lead them to a happier life.
I loved the characters in this book--I felt for them when they were down and I cheered for them when they were up. I'm finding it hard to connect to a different book because of how much I connected with the characters in this one. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs to remember this are good people in this world, and anyone that believes that working in a library would be the best job in the world.
Meet Lucy a 24 year old librarian who has an extremely big heart. Lucy sets up a book club in the library. She doesn’t have many takers. But the people who join are in desperate need of some magic this Christmas period and Lucy is determined to help them all. But in helping them will Lucy be able to follow her own dreams and passions as well as helping her book club regulars and new found friends get theirs.
This was my first book by this author and will not be the last she writes her books so well and makes you believe you are there with the characters. I couldn't put the book down and hooked from page one. It's full of romance finding families along with a book club being the main focus and dancing as well. Perfect read to curl up and enjoy I would love a follow on for this book as so well written want to find out more from the characters.
The book is based around Lucy who wants a fresh start and starts working in the library in a beautiful village she loves reading so much and she starts a new book club and she wants people to join and for her to help fix their problems. Callum is the puzzle she is unsure about but when they start working together to sort different problems out they get closer together can they all work through their problems and solve them and be happy in the book club together.
A simply Devine read loved every aspect of it.
To my shame, I have to admit that this is the first book by Emma Davies that I have actually read. I have several on my ever increasing ‘To Be Read’ pile but I just don’t seem to have got around to reading them. Bad mistake!! Needless to say that as I enjoyed this one so much, the rest will not be on the pile for long. I just simply adored ‘Lucy’s Book Club For The Lost & Found’ but more about that in a bit.
I have to say that I really did take to Lucy’s character from the start. She is a kind, generous and warm hearted human being, who loves to help others. Lucy sets off with the best of intentions but things don’t always go to plan. Lucy seems to have spent that long worrying about others that her own emotional wellbeing seems to have fallen down her list of priorities. I certainly felt that it was about time she made herself a priority. Lucy can see that each and every member of her book club seem lonely and that they have a lot on their mind, so she tries to get them to open up a bit. I particularly found the stories of Oscar and Lia to be particularly moving and you will see why when you read the book. Lucy is a total bookworm, who works in the village library. Lucy doesn’t see her role as simply a ‘job’ and she throws herself wholeheartedly into making the library successful in more ways than one.
I must say that ‘Lucy’s Book Club For The Lost & Found’ grabbed my attention from the start and this is definitely one book that really ‘got to me’. I empathised with different characters and felt the emotions that they were going through. By the time I finished reading, I felt as though I was an emotional wreck. The book certainly had me under its spell from the first word on the first page and it didn’t release me until I had finished the last word on the last page. I became so addicted to reading this book that my Kindle came everywhere with me and I just couldn’t put it down. I had to read on and on to see if the characters got their happy ever after or if Lucy’s efforts were going to be in vain. I was so completely wrapped up in the story that I didn’t notice how quickly the pages were turning and before I knew it, I had finished the book, which I had conflicting feelings about. I was pleased to finish because I knew how the story ended and if the different characters got their ‘happy ever after’. I was disappointed to finish the book because I was enjoying the writing style and the story so much that I just wanted the book to continue.
In short, I simply adored this book, even if I did feel like an emotional wreck by the time I had finished reading. I can’t wait to read what comes next from the hugely talented and simply brilliant Emma Davies. I would definitely, definitely recommend this book to others. The score on the board for ‘Lucy’s Book Club For The Lost & Found’ is a mahoosively well deserved 5* out of 5*.
This book grows exponentially with the introduction of each new book club member. You will want to sit down, pull up a chair and talk about your life and books.
Read my 3-star review of Lucy's Little Village Book Club by Emma Davies
Do not get me wrong, I am currently going through an on-and-off reading slump, which completely sucks. For me this book was not quite the catch, even if I did like the characters and the way things were going in this book. I somehow DNF-ed this book, but i kept going on just for the sake of it. Nice one, after all!
