Do Over is a great fit for readers looking for a heartwarming story about a tough guy learning to embrace his role as a single parent and finding love in a forced proximity situation with his son's mother.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

Do Over is a great single mom romance! I am new to Serena Bell, but I am now a fan. Jack & Maddie’s journey wasn’t easy, but worth it in the end!

Maddie and jack have a very unique past. They were best friends as kids but when Jack's dad left he lost who he was and thought he was always going to be like him. So when things got heated he did something stupid and then over the yrs he never really got to know his son till one day he had no other choice. Over the days maddie and Jack got to know each other once again as adult.

I had high hopes for this one. In the end, I struggled to connect with the characters and it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I really couldn't get into this book. I did not like Jackson. He really acted like a part-time father and Maddie really allowed too much from him. I felt like she deserved so much better so I really wasn't rooting for them as a couple. DNF.

Angsty Second Chance Romance

Jack and Maddie have known each other forever and were best friends as kids, but fear of becoming his dad prevents him from making any kind of commitment for a future between them. Still, whenever things go wrong in her life, she turns to Jack. He’s basically an in-name-only father to their son Gabe, until he’s not. Forgiveness is an easy gift from Maddie, but if you don't ask for it...

I would have liked the HEA to be more obvious, i.e. a wedding ring, but maybe that’s assumed. This book is filled with angst, unlike her book Sleepover, which is interspersed with humor. Personally, I prefer the sexy humor, but this is still a good read. Serena Bell is a fairly new author to me but I really enjoy what I’ve read so far.

Love Maddie and Jack’s second chance at love. Years ago Jack broke Maddie’s heart when she was pregnant. Now Maddie and his son needs his help. As they spend time together Jack wants a second chance but Maddie is hesitant. Lots of chemistry between the two. Love that Maddie and Jack were normal every day people with everyday struggles. Engaging. Recommended read.

This story of Maddie and Jack, a second chance couple who share a 5 year old son, was an excellent read. I enjoyed the way they secretly harbored feelings for one another but didn't want to own up to it. I enjoyed the way their son was used to bring them together. I liked that they were friends as well as lovers. This is a very well written and smoothly told story Thank you!

DO OVER - Serena Bell

SECOND-CHANCE ROMANCE - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Having grown up together as friends, Maddie and Jack have one wild night and end up with a young son together. Although they've both moved on, they still have contact, of course, over Gabe. When they both find themselves attracted again, they have to decide if they're both willing to try again, but neither is willing to take the risk.

Writing - 3.5 stars - Bell is a new-to-me author, and the book didn't grab me right away. But within the first few chapters, I was enjoying the lightness of the writing and the clever dialog.

Characters - 4 stars - Jack is cute--the typical all-about-sex alpha who still has feelings for Maddie. His vulnerability about his son and still caring for Maddie makes him very appealing. Maddie, on the other hand, is seemingly much stronger, although she hasn't found anyone she's attracted to like she was to Jack. She's been hurt--both by her current boyfriend and by Jack, so she's particularly slow to react, especially because she has to worry about Gabe's well-being. But I liked her the more I got to know her. I was definitely rooting for them to succeed together.

Title - 4 stars - Good title. Says it. The reader knows to expect a second-chance-at-love romance.

Cover - 4 stars - A little typical of the genre, but who can argue with gorgeous hot abs?

Overview - 4 stars - Not a lot of deviation from the standard second-chance romance plot line, but I definitely found it an enjoyable and light read. I liked Maddy's vulnerability, and I like that Jack was willing to show his vulnerable side too, especially regarding Gabe. I mean, even play-the-field guys have to grow up eventually, and Jack seems like he's just about willing to make some changes in his life. Gabe is a cute kid and adds a bit of lightness to the story.

This was a nice, easy read. Honestly, both characters were irritating me to begin with, but the character growth that they both experienced throughout the book was gratifying to watch.

A zany and enjoyable coming of age story/second chance romance between two people with a lot of emotional baggage who are forced to grow up for the good of their young son. Sometimes in life we all need a do over, and Jack and Maddie are bound and determined to get it right this time around. Jack is a one and done kind of guy when it comes to sex and relationships; he’s happy living alone and doing what he wants when he wants but when his one night stand got pregnant he stepped up and did the right thing. When Maddie and his son need a place to stay until she can afford a place of her own, Jack once again steps up to do the right thing. No one is more shocked than he is when Jack finds family life and fatherhood to be the one thing that makes life worth living. Oh, how the mighty do fall...head over heels! I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

4 stars when first read; 4.5 stars when I started thinking about it last night writing my review.

Synopsis: Jack and Maddie were best friends when they were children. Then when they were in college, they had a romance, and as a result, had a son together. They are not together now, but Jack is part of his son's life. He doesn't actually have to do parental duties, as his mother and sister are more than happy to do the heavy lifting when Jack has the child.
One night, Jack has to look after Gabe by himself so that Maddie can have time with her boyfriend. When Maddie walks in on her boyfriend with her best friend, Jack offers them both a place to stay until they can find an apartment. Maddie doesn't feel that she has any other options, so she agrees.
Maddie absolutely doesn't want to go through what she went through with Jack when they had their fling. But she sees how much Jack has stepped up to be an actual father, not a fun playmate, and really admires the man that he has become.
Jack doesn't believe that he could ever be someone to be relied on, and that he isn't one to have serious relationships.

What I liked: how much Jack grew up and took responsibility for both Maddie and Jack. Seeing Maddie and Jack and how strong their friendship was, and then watching them rebuild it it was very satisfying. Maddie was strong and even though she didn't want to be hurt as badly as she had been, she still ended up being strong enough to take a risk. Gabe was a real child and not a caricature or overly cutesy. Even though Maddie and Jack were attracted to each other, their friendship took precedence over any kind of intimate relationship. Jack and Maddie supported each other in their endeavours.

What I didn't like: how long Jack held on to his father's opinion of himself.

Overall impressions: I was very pleasantly surprised with the writing and the story. I found it engaging, and the characters people that I would like to know. This has actually grown on me since I read it, so I think that I'm going to raise it to a 4.5 star read. Alternating 1st person POV in present tense.

One of Serena Bell's best! Both Jack and Maddie are characters you'll love from page 1 - I loved that they had a past, and watching them learn that they are meant for each other was a lot of fun! Everyone has had a break up. Everyone has wondered, "Was he/she the one that got away?" Not everyone has had the second chance Jack and Maddie get in this sexy romance! And one of the things I loved best about our hero? I loved that he was a reluctant dad who turns into Dad of the Year by the end of the book - and that's NOT a spoiler!!!

Do Over is a second chance romance if you couldn't figure that out by the title, but if you like happy endings and cute kids thrown in for a family feel then you need to check this one out. Jack and Maddie are meant to be together, but of course they will have some bumps in the path before they find their HEA.

Do Over is a light sexy second chance at love novel. It was an easy read. I always appreciate the passion with which Ms. Bell infuses her books, Do Over is a little unbalanced, perhaps lighter on the romance than I would like. The characters were engaging, the child not too precocious, and the story entertaining. If you're looking for an afternoon's reading escape, Do Over would suit you well.

I am in awe of how Ms Bell seems to so effortlessly create characters that easily melt into your heart. There's chemistry (as is in most romance stories, you hope any way), warmth, genuineness, and general overall believability that draws you into their flaws, joy, sorrows, and hopes and dreams.

Jack and Maddie’s story has all the elements to not only providing warmth, but also heartbreak, strategically interwoven to bring out the true essence of who they are to each other and those around them. The ending left me with a smile and a sigh, as only a well written romance can do.
