August and Everything After by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski.
I loved this book it was so hard to put down!! The characters worked wonderfully there was a single odd one that felt like it could have been left out! I'm very disappointed in the ending but hopefully this book will turn into a series! One thing I was hoping for was Q's aunt turning out to be her mom! Kinda sad that didn't happen! All and all it was a wonderful book!

I fully enjoyed this novel of teen angst over the summer. I loved the characters and all that they went through. I loved Quinn and her journey of moving on and trying to find her way in life. This was one novel that is a good summer read one that I think many will enjoy.
The Quick Cut: A girl moves in with her Aunt after graduating high school and more than a few black marks on her reputation. In the process, girl meets boy who is a musician and musician drama ensues.
A Real Review:
This book is a pleasant, quick read. A lovely blend of light, happy, and real, my experience with this one left me not only satisfied in the end but thoroughly joyed by where the characters ended up. It's nice to see a twist on what would typically happen for books such as these where the primary focus includes a guy and a girl.
Bot meets girl is a very common premise, but where this one takes it is extraordinary. The boy and girl both were forced to deal with death at a young age and in the same manner via car accident. However, their method of dealing is opposite from one another and the chaos that causes is a true issue in the real world. It's refreshing to see that play out here where the consequences are felt and dealt with instead of pretending everything ends up perfect.
Oh Quinn. Charming, confused, totally misguided but absolutely adorable Quinn. She's got a great mind but it's clouded by the demons of her past an unfortunately for her, they've all seemingly compiled. The pain of her friend's death causes her to seek the love of a teacher in the worst way. It's no surprise that she ended up losing herself entirely by the end of her educational years. There's also more than a little bit of a broken relationship between her and her mom - to the point where living with her barely adult aunt is the solution to the problem.
Malcom is dark but motivated to kickstart his music career back to where it once stood. He's an interesting guy with a lot of issues that aren't hidden and definitely come to bite anyone in site at multiple points, but so does the chemistry.
Finally, this book is about more than just Quinn and Malcom. It's also about where does Quinn want to go with her future, who she would like to be, and where her relationships with her family will end up. The method in which all these storylines are wrapped up in one storyline was phenomenal and also believable. I loved every moment of it.
A delightful read about pain, loss, and the years of aftermath - this book tells that tale well with a romance between a flawed guy and girl.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I waffled back and forth between 3 and 4 stars for this book. It was a pretty good story, but hit on a few of my pet peeves. Thus the 3 stars.
From the first chapter I felt like I was missing something. Like when you start watching a movie and you miss the first 10 minutes. I actually went back to make sure I didn't miss a chapter. There was also quite a bit of telling and not showing. Sure they fell in love, but WHY?
Also, there didn't seem to be any physical descriptions of the characters. I prefer to picture them in my mind and I had nothing to go on.
Overall, not a bad read and I would give this author another chance.
I received an ARC copy from netgalley for my honest review, so thank you netgalley and publishers for offering me this book! ♡

4.5 star rating!
This book had some great music references and was a good story about a girl overcoming and dealing with the loss of her friend and of her identity. I enjoyed the story but felt like there were a few things that could have happened at a different pace. Will recommend to my students.
I recieved a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I picked this book for the cover. I loved the colors, and that's what initially grabbed my attention.
I loved the main character. I could really relate to her and her flaws. I had high hopes for her in the ending, and the author did not let me down. This book has me laughing and then crying almost simultaneously. And crying, not sobbing. I really appreciate an author that can make me feel things for and with the characters without absolutely shattering my heart and soul. The author did a good job with the characterization, and the plot. It was sad, but in a good way. It had a good message, but not in a heavy way. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, especially those who have lost someone. The story really just hits home for me.
