Such a fun series with all the craziness Reagan gets into and the quirky sidekick characters. This series is always good for a laugh and this latest installment is a great addition.
When I requested this book on Netgalley I thought it looked like a good story that would be fun to review. Well, I got that but also LOVED this book. It had absolutely hilarious moments that had me laughing right out loud in public.~ The consignment shop setting was perfect and I could (as an avid thrift shopper!) picture myself there! This book was like Murder. She Wrote crossed with a Lucille Ball episode and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
A fun book, if you can say that about a murder mystery. Reagan runs a consignment shop of vintage clothing, and is also, in her words, a corpse magnet. With the help of her mom the judge, and her aunt Kiki they work on solving the mystery of two dead bodies. A lot of different characters, with plenty of southern charm makes for a lively book. Chuckled out loud several times, and made the book hard to put down. Highly recommend if you want a light hearted murder mystery book with a southern flare. Also, gotta love the martini recipes in the back. May have to try a few.
First, thanks to netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I've read and enjoyed the first four books in the Consignment Shop series. Reagan is a young divorcee in Savannah trying to make a living with her consignment shop when she gets involved in solving a murder, or two, to protect two elderly sisters. It's fast-paced, humorous and peopled with distinct characters. While still entertaining, it's not my favorite in the series.
Wowzas! There are both hunky bodies and dead bodies in this fast moving mystery. The story starts with a question and ends with a enough of a cliffhanger that the reader is left wanting the next installment of this series. Reagan is the perfect combination of hot mess and Southern Belle. Her beau is a the perfect combo of hunky, knight in shining armor, and good tempered. Her aunt, mom, and string of other characters all play hilarious roles in this cozy murder. The stereotypical Souther-ness of the characters and the setting add to the charm. This read is light, funny, and quick.
This book follows our beloved Regan Summerside whose found herself newly engaged to Walker Boone. While planning her wedding and enjoying her engagement she finds a body in her neighbor the Abbot sisters car. Positive that the Abbot sisters wouldn't commit murder she wrangles Boone into helping her when they go back to the car the body and the car are missing. Reagan is starting to wonder what is going on when she then finds the body in her shop and then as soon as she gets her Aunt Kiki to go with her the body disappears again only to actually turn up in the Abbot sister's garden. The victim being connected to another recently deceased Willie Fishbine who has swindled many people out of money! Reagan gets called to investigate Willie's death as his grandson saw Kiki swipe a candy bar off the deceased when Putter puts Kiki on a health craze. With the pressure of a video tape being leaked social media wise Reagan inlists the help of her mother, Kiki, Boone and many others to get to the bottom! Who killed these two and why?
I love this series one of my favorites. Such a fun ride to go on with Reagan, BW, Mother, Kiki, Boone and Big Joey. This book is definitely won't that won't disappoint and is long time coming waiting for the latest from this great group of friends and family. With Boone being brought in as part of Reagan's family! I felt like no time had passed and loved being back with this loveable great group!
Another great addition to the consignment shop mystery series. The characters are a hoot, and the chemistry between Reagan and Boone is the real deal. Add a twisted, laugh out loud plot and you're off and running. My only complaint is the wait between books in the series us too long. One of my favorite cozies.
This was a cute book...the author does a great job of creating the setting - you'll feel like you're in Savannah! My only caveat emptor is that the first part of the book is very difficult to read if you're coming into it without having read the other books in the series. There were _so_ many references to things that I just didn't get, and only marginal explanation (presumably not to bore those who HAD read them)...but eventually I was able to get past that and into the story. It's a great mystery, full of twists and turns, and will keep you guessing up to the end! I'll probably end up going back and reading the first ones in the series, too.
Savannah is a beautiful old city, filled with history, grace and murder. Sleepy Pines Retirement Center has quite a package laid out for their guests. When they go to their final “reward” the Pines will provide professional mourners to grieve at their graveside. The mourners, sisters Annie and Elsie have been very busy lately, a little too busy as a lot of folks at the Pines are dying, dropping like flies in fact. Consignment shop owner Reagan Summerside doesn’t believe the town gossip, however, and begins an investigation of her own. Soon questions are raised about the death of Willie Fishbine, the man who robbed the sisters of their retirement money. Willie was killed before the deaths at the Pines, so does that mean the sisters have been perfecting their killing skills? I love Savannah and Brown does a great job of capturing its beauty and charm along with its quirky, slightly sinister side
South charm mixed with a lot of crazy and a whole lot of laughs and one or two bodies and dog named Bruce Willis along the way. You will laugh and wonder if this could be your family or at least your town. I don't wanna spoil the book but it picks right up were Demise and Denim leaves off. Does Reagan say yes or walk away from Walker Boone? Why does Aunt Kiki have a coffin hanging out of her trunk? What secret does Uncle Putter have that he's sharing with Boone about Kiki that has him worried? Who buried the body in the Fritz sister's backyard? What is going on at the Pines the senior resident facility that has two seniors wanting to duel? .These questions alone should make you want to read this book. If you wanna see how it all began read the first four along with the short novella in series. Thank you Crooked Lane for continuing this amazing series.
In author Duffy Brown's long awaited Lethal in Old Lace, wedding bells are preparing to ring in Savannah as Reagan Summerside and her fiancé Walker Boone are basking in their engagement and preparing to move in together. Unfortunately for them, senior citizens are dropping like flies at the Sleepy Pines Retirement Home, and Reagan's next door neighbors Elsie and Annie Fritz are suspects numbers one and two after the police discover a dead body buried in their garden. Add to this the fact that Uncle Putter has Auntie KiKi on a health kick which has caused her to resort to Snickers swapping at a very inopportune moment leading Reagan and KiKi to hide another body (avec casket!) in the trunk of Auntie KiKi's batmobile. To solve the mystery and clear their friends, Reagan and KiKi promise just about everyone they know in Savannah a part in the wedding, leading to more comic relief as Reagan's planned small and intimate wedding is turned into one of Scarlett O'Hara proportions! Another hilarious romp through very charming southern city of Savannah, and highly recommended to all lovers of author Duffy Brown's Consignment Shop mystery series (also to those of her Bicycle Path mystery series who haven't discovered Reagan and the gang yet). Absolutely loved it and I sure hope there's a follow up in the series! Martini recipes included - an absolute must for Auntie KiKi followers! A+++
