This dense self-help book operates under this premise: willpower doesn't work; to make a positive change, you must alter your environment to facilitate and encourage the change that you seek. Environment here is a concept used widely meaning anything from your physical environment (micro to macro), to your mental environment (creating urgency in order to achieve best performance), to the people you associate with. Because the term is used broadly, there are a lot of rules/tips in this book to follow for maximum success according to the author. Some good nuggets in here about building morning routine and being cognizant about how the people you associate with affect your own behavior are two that spoke to me. However, some of the tips cited seem suspect at best (don't eat when you are doing creative work). And, while the macro ideas appealed to me, the many micro tips just were overwhelming. Also, this book assumes a lot of privilege and an American upper middle class definition of success, which I found a bit off-putting. But, if a reader approaches this volume with a lets-see-what-I-can-take-from-this-and-leave-the-rest attitude, they may find a few gems to make the reading worthwhile.
