I like the idea of being able to read holiday stories from some of the more popular Christmas movies from the Hallmark channels. It was a fun little read, maybe slightly more in depth than a movie on tv.
If there is one simple, underlying message it has to be to put the cell phone down and look at the life you’re missing out. Loved the book and loved the movie more.
Maddie believes she has it all, until she is confronted if everything she is missing. Kevin has everything he ever wanted and is about to lose it all. Their paths should never cross. A wonderful read full of promise and chances that could never happen unless they make the choice. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
If there is one simple, underlying message in Love You Like Christmas it has to be to put the cell phone down and look at the life you’re missing out on by being in a heads down position constantly. Maddie is connected to her cell phone, for business which in many ways is life to her. Committed, driven she’s made her career by keeping on top of her client’s needs, new trends and knowing what is happening in her business world. A big city woman, Maddie will step outside of her comfort zone to attend a client’s wedding… not for the celebration but for the connections to be made, the networking to be done. Trouble is she’s terrified of flying, so she takes her aunt’s stunning, vintage car out for a road trip – and the fun or as some call it, real life begins.
Kevin’s life is his work and his daughter. There’s not much time for anything else but the struggling Christmas tree farm and giving everything, every minute he can to his daughter, Jo. He hadn’t considered romance for one moment since his wife died. Sure, Jo needed a mother figure in her life but when was Keven supposed to find time to date let alone conduct a romance. Those thoughts took a flying leap when he meets Maddie. Maybe there’s time for love after all… if he can keep his love in town and not heading back to the big city where she feels in control.
I enjoyed Love You Like Christmas. Fun characters, more real to life than some of us would like to admit to. Kevin’s daughter is adorable and often steals the show. Maddie has some lessons to learn, and they are at times tough ones. Kevin sees a future together, but he has his work cut out for him. Two people who complete each other but need time to realize that simple fact. I’d recommend this story (or movie) for any Romance reader. Love, a touch of Christmas magic and small town antics. What’s not to love about that?
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*.
It was an adorable book. I really love the Christmas setting. It's perfect for the h Kid at season.
This was such a sweet story. Maddie was an overworked marketing exec who was on her way to a client's wedding when a Christmas tree truck overturned and then her car broke down. As she got to know the town and especially Kevin and his daughter Jo, she discovered she loved life in this wonderful small town. She tried to go back to the big city, but only lasted a couple days. It had a great HEA. I got this book from Netgalley for an honest review
I love this sweet story of a woman stranded in a town that loves Christmas. Since I saw the movie first, I have those images while reading it and it's a very cozy reading experience.
This was just like watching the Hallmark movie! I'm looking forward to reading more Hallmark Christmas stories.
I need Hallmark to make every single Christmas movie into a book immediately, because Love You Like Christmas was FANTASTIC. I love Hallmark movies, because of the feeling they evoke when you watch. I'm always crying and smiling and talking to the TV, it's a big production, so of course I had to give this book a shot. It outdid the movie, tenfold. My imagination ran away with Love You Like Christmas and getting to picture everything in my head was magical.
"She loved Christmas. But she loved making the magic happen for other people more..."
Love You Like Christmas: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie by Keri F. Sweet is one of those Christmas books that you will want to read again and again. Maddie is a marketing executive who loves what the general spirit of Christmas stands for, but doesn't truly partake in. She sees the season as a way to sell, to build her client list up and to succeed in her brand new corner office. She takes her Aunt's beloved old mustang on a drive, set for Denver and a glittering party filled with opportunity and finds herself stuck in Christmas Valley. She tries not to let the festive town keep her from work, but an adorable girl and her nosy father, as well as the other spirited townsfolk, pull her from her cell phone and show her what she's been missing. Kevin thinks it is fate that he met Maddie on the road after his trees spilled across the highway and that she's now in his town, stranded for several days. She sparks feelings in him again, feelings he thought he'd never find again, and breathes life back into his and Jo's world. He just has to convince her that Christmas Valley has more to offer than her perfect, ordered world in New York.
"A billion to one, she'd have said. Even more, what were the odds she'd still feel this pull, this breathless long, this desperate desire to know more?"
Maddie and Kevin are standard Hallmark Movie characters, one doesn't quite embrace the spirit of Christmas, while the other loves it completely. In this case though, both characters need some help to truly embrace the holiday and one another. Both characters are likable, but it is only when they are together that the story really comes to life. The story is all about being too busy to really enjoy what life has to offer. In this case, Maddie is glued to her phone and her career, unable to see that her time in Christmas Valley is an opportunity to slow down and just embrace the season. Fate, and trouble, keeps Maddie in Christmas Valley even longer and as time goes by she learns to take a step back and enjoy the small moments. Jo, Kevin's adorable daughter, assists in carrying this story along far more than your average secondary character. Maddie sees parts of herself in Jo and Jo sees a woman she wants to be like, but time stands in their way. Over and over Kevin misses chances with Maddie, but it all works out in the end, because it's Christmas and a Hallmark book, of course!
"Surrounded by this place, ready with this idea to save the Tyler farm, Maddie got the concept of labor of love."
Sweet, spirited, and seasonal, Love You Like Christmas will wrap you up in Christmas like it's a warm blanket. Keri F. Sweet brings the story to life with colorful details, lots of emotion, and all the sweet moments of Christmases past that readers yearn for in their books. This book made me want more and it made me even more excited for the Holidays. This is a must read if you already love Christmas stories or if you're looking to add a little joy to your life.
This is a classic Hallmark script for a Christmas movie. She is so caught up with her job that I think she forgets to look around and see all of the fun and adventure that life holds for her. Then she gets her hands on her Aunts old car and her life changes. While trying to hold onto his family Christmas tree farm, this chance netting between them makes everything right in their lives. Now, if only she could put that phone done! This is just a classic Hallmark story, everything works out in the end and it is so sweet!
If you know me at all, you know that I love the Hallmark movie marathons that are playing right now. Well this book is published by Hallmark publishing, so you know it's going to be good.
In this book Maddie drives cross country to a wedding of one of her biggest clients, since she has a fear of flying. Well the trip is derailed by a truck that was carrying Christmas trees ends up sprawled over the highway. She ends up in the town of Christmas Valley.
The town is as quaint and cozy as the name reveals. Maddie uses her marketing skills to help a local diner owner. She also finds a little girl Jo, who she instantly feels a connection. It just so happens that her father is the same Christmas tree truck driver that Maddie encountered earlier.
After reading the book I immediately watched the movie and they are both pretty close in the telling, aside from the ending. A sweet, charming, feel good book and movie to get you in the spirit of the holiday season!
This story is sweet and clean, as a Hallmark-movie based story should be. If you're sensitive to cursing or sex, you have absolutely nothing to worry about here.
If you have watched the movie Love You Like Christmas (it was one of my favorites of the 2016 debuts) this book is the perfect companion to that. The author didn't deviate from the story, but added depth and color to it. She also added a ton of humor to the characters' inner thoughts (Maddie, specifically) that I found myself grinning as I read it. I love a book that can make me laugh!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a beautiful Christmas story, an opposites attract story, and/or a story about a charming small town full of amazing characters.
I requested and was generously granted an ARC of this book via NetGalley and the publisher. I was under no obligation to write this review. I did so because I really enjoyed the book.
I really enjoyed this book. the romance crept up on you in a short time frame but the journey was sooo much fun.A good holiday read.
A very sweet and charming story about love, hope and the power of Christmas. I loved the characters, the story and the writing style. I highly recommend this book
I'm a fan of these Hallmark books. The Hallmark Christmas movies are always sweet, and you know they are clean and family-oriented. The books are no different. It it clean enough that I would be willing to let me teen daughter read it (even if she probably wouldn't want to), sweet enough to restore faith in a season where it's easy to get lost in the stress, and realistic enough to relate to. They have a good message buried within the words, too.
Overall, a nice, short, easy read that is perfect for the holidays!
