2.5 (rounded up because I enjoyed Jessa so much!)
After reading the first book in the series, I was a bit hesitant in starting this one because I didn't want to have to read the heroine being down on herself. Thankfully, Jessa was exactly the heroine I needed. Strong-minded, independent and confident in herself and her abilities, Jessa was a great character to get to know. I admired her hard-working nature and her desire to succeed. Unfortunately, she was paired up with Max. He didn't make a great impression on me initially. I found him to be deceitful, rude and not nearly as charming as he thought he was. He does redeem himself in the end, but it made it hard for me to become fully invested in the romance.
Didn't love this story. The heroine is a bland stereotype. The hero is a bit better, but still just not enough to sell me on this story.

What happens when a food truck comes to town and threatens to ruin everything Max Hager loves.
Can he keep his life in order or will he once again give in to temptation?
When a few little "white lies" lead to an adventure he never expected, will he reveal the truth or risk losing everything he's worked for along with his heart?
This scorchin' hot read is another must read from Alison Bliss.
I had some issues with this book. This was really more of a 2.5-star read but since I am feeling generous, I am rounding up. I have had a review copy of this book for quite a while but hadn't had the chance to read it so I decided to pick up the audiobook and give it a try. I thought that the narrator did a great job but I just couldn't ever get completely behind this story.
Jessa was great. She was confident and an all-around nice girl. She worked hard and wanted to play by the rules. She wasn't afraid to take risks or go for what she wants. And then there is Max. Max ruined this story for me. He lies when he meets Jessa and doesn't stop lying for the whole book. Jessa deserved better than that.
I did enjoy seeing Jessa connect with the people in town. I also thought that Max and Jessa had great chemistry and there was some potential for their relationship. My problem is the Max waits way too long to come clean and his lies go on way too long. He even takes steps to keep the deceit going after he has started to get involved with her. There were just a lot of lines crossed in this story. Every time Max had an opportunity to come clean with Jessa and didn't take it, I lost some respect for his character. By the end of the book, I had no respect left. Jessa deserved better.
I thought that Violet Strong did a great job with the narration. Her narration was one of the highlights of the book. She did a great job with the character voices and had a great reading voice. I had no problem listening to her narration for hours at a time. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more of her narration work.
I think that there are some readers that will enjoy this one more than I did. I have a hard time with romances where one character is deceiving the other so this one didn't work for me. I haven't quite given up on this author and would love to try more of her work in the future.
I received a digital review copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook.
So sometimes I have to wonder where an author is going when they embark on these types of series that seem to stem from a quest or goal, in this case the weight and body image issues society places on individuals and the problems it forces on relationships. Sometimes it becomes all about “the message” and the author forgets that the important part of a romance is the characters and the love being developed between them, but I am comfortable saying that in this series Ms. Bliss has escaped that dreaded fate. While the goal is to educate people that even though someone doesn’t fit into a size 6 or fights with their insecurities about their weight, the people themselves and their mistakes and ultimate triumphs are what make her stories great. This third story in the series took a different turn in that the hero was the one with the body image issues while the heroine was comfortable in her sensual and sexy plus-sized body. I enjoyed this gender-bending bit of storytelling, though I was very upset with Max through the majority of the book because let’s face it he was a dickhead and even he knew it. Jessa—Jess to her friends—was an amazing woman, full of laughter and fire, but with a warm heart and giving nature that made her the perfect woman and a great character to counter Max’s asshole mistakes. Max had been a character that was mischievous but lovable throughout previous novels in the series, but getting to know him more we see the serious levels of insecurity he hides behind and that only the right woman will be able to bring him into the light and let him live a truly fulfilled and happy life. He might be a sexy and alpha male, but his past has left too many scars and he needs to let them go quickly or he won’t be man enough for the woman he loves. Jessa on the other hand was a strong and seriously kick ass woman, sure of herself and even willing to throw caution to the wind when she feels the universe offering her something almost too good to be true. She has been burned in the past but doesn’t let it keep her from being who she is or offering her heart when Max comes into her life, even though she knows something with him isn’t entirely right. I loved getting to know her and seeing her come even more out of her shell as she found her roots and when her past comes to light the full truth of her history was a plot twist I never saw coming. The heat and intensity between Max and Jess was there from the very beginning and I knew they would be combustible as soon as they allowed themselves to give in, but the passionate love that developed between them reminds me that sometimes even something that is most unexpected and definitely not conveniently timed can become the most important thing in our lives. I enjoyed every moment of this story and though I am not sure if this is the end of the series, I will be keeping my eyes open for more by this author and hoping to get to see these sensual ladies and the sexy men that earned their big hearts in future. Thanks for a wild and emotional ride, Alison.
Another amazing book by Mrs. Bliss. I have been waiting very impatiently for this one.
Max and Jessa were fun to read. I adore Jessa. She is someone I would love to meet and hang out with. She has her insecurities like every female but she doesn’t let it run her life. She is quirky, upbeat and just seems like someone who would be fun to be around. She is running a successful food truck with a dream of opening her own restaurant someday.
Max is someone I had to grow to love. I was very glad that this book allowed us to see what was inside his head so you knew that his intentions were good however misplaced they were. There were many times in the book I kept saying to myself “just tell her or come clean because this is going to get ugly.”
These two were fun to read and they complemented each other very well. However, you knew that it was just a matter of time before everything came out. When it did, my heart broke for Jessa and it did for Max also but yet I kept thinking I told you so.
Without giving away any spoilers, I will say I really liked the twist at the end especially how it impacted Max and Logan given their shaky friendship.
This is the first book that I have read of Alison Bliss’s. What really grabbed my attention to read this book was the title and the cover of this book. So when I was given the opportunity to read the book I jumped at the chance.
I think that Alison did a great job in the beginning of describing the first character Max. As a reader you got to read his backstory and why he was in the town he was in. However, after that I could not get into the story. I found it hard to connect with the two main characters and to see their love start to develop. I didn't really see a connection between the two of them either.
Although there was good humor at times I just didn't connect with this story. Not to say that other readers won’t enjoy and connect to the story but it wasn't for me.

Book #3: A Perfect Fit Series
Source: Netgalley
My Rating: 4/5 stars
I was quite disappointed with the second book in the A Perfect Fit series and was hoping the third book would right the ship so to speak. It certainly did right itself and I found myself enjoying this installment of the series just as much as I did the first, Size Matters.
In the wake of her mother’s death, Jessa Gibson was absolutely lost. In fact, until the resolution of her mother’s estate, Jessa had no idea what she would do with the rest of her life. As it turns out, Jessa’s love of cooking, her mother’s fond memories, and a hefty life insurance payment answered the question for her. Food truck in Granite, Texas! You totally saw that coming, right? 😊
Within a few short weeks of setting up her food truck and word of mouth, Jessa is overwhelmed with business. Her food is far superior to the average food truck, her overhead is low and so are her prices which keeps the residents of Granite coming back for more every day. Jessa absolutely adores her customers and with business booming, Jessa is hoping to put down roots in Granite. Her ultimate dream is to transfer her fine food truck foods to a brick and mortar location where she can permanently serve the people of her adopted home town.
Max Hager has spent his adult life in pursuit of a single goal, never again be the fat kid in the room. With dogged determination and an iron will power, Max exercises religiously and controls what goes into his body down to the most minute of morsels. Only one person in Granite knows his secret, the owner of the local Empty Plate Café. Every day, Max goes to the Empty Plate and orders the “special,” a low calorie, low carb, low everything meal made just for Max. Unfortunately, the arrival of Jessa’s food truck has severely and negatively impacted the Empty Plate which absolutely freaks out Max and causes him to hatch a half-baked plan intended to save his friend’s restaurant and secure his own culinary future.
In the moment of panic that hatched the half-bake plan, Max decides to impersonate the local health inspector and make Jessa’s life so miserable she has no choice but to pack up her interloping food truck and leave town. In the moment, the plan seemed solid and doable, but meeting Jessa made everything go sideways and some things, or body parts take notice. Jessa is fiery, intelligent, quick witted, funny, and sweet. She’s a good girl and just as soon as Max launches his evil get her out of town plan, he feels completely wretched. What’s more, health inspectors have to follow-up on their initial inspections which means coming clean isn’t going to be easy.
In the coming days, Max returns to the food truck more than is strictly necessary. Under the guise of the health inspector he has a valid “reason” for being there, but in his heart of hearts, he knows he keeps returning because of Jessa. Jessa fascinates Max and his attraction to her can’t be denied though he tries awfully hard to do so. Jessa is just as attracted to Max yet she can’t seem to figure him out. Until the moment he gives in to his attraction, Max runs hot and cold and sends all kinds of mixed signals. When he finally gives, Max is all kinds of hot and holy hell does he take talking dirty to a whole new level. Her relationship with Max is another reason to stay in Granite, and perhaps the most exciting of reasons. What she doesn’t know is going to break her heart and cause to her to feel just as lost as she did when her mother died.
The Bottom Line: More to Love got this series back on track for me and though I found Max to be somewhat selfish in the beginning, he redeemed himself in the end. Max has a great deal of maturing to do and he learns that lesson the hard way throughout this read. His tricking of Jessa is immature and selfish, and when he loses her, he fully appreciates how pathetic and wrong his behavior has been. Jessa also teaches Max about trust, compassion, and understanding and as their relationship develops, she also learns a few lessons. What’s more, Jessa and Max are surrounded by the characters from the two previous books which deepens and enriches the story overall. All of the original characters are now coupled up and entangled in their respective HEAs so it may be this series has come to end. If that is indeed the case, then Jessa and Max a strong ending to a decent trilogy.

Having read this series from the beginning, I was definitely looking forward to Max’s story. The author, Alison Bliss, does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed the read -> laughing, tearing up, wondering what the heck Max was thinking (you big lunk head) or even…you go girl (referring to Jessa and her spunk).
One of the great things I really liked about this story was that the “weight issue” was Max’s (though I was stumped as to why he went to such great lengths to hide his eating habits?). Jessa was perfectly happy with her plus size. Another element I really enjoyed was the use of humour and I love some of the sarcastic internal dialogue at the beginning with Jessa:
” What was wrong with her? She was getting hot and bothered by the hunky dimwit who happened to be the health inspector. As if that was a smart move.”
In the beginning we get a sense of Max’s issues with food as he eats a majority of his meals at the Empty Plate Café (owned and ran by Pops) in Granite, Texas. When Max returns home from a quick vacation at his parents, The Empty Plate Café is empty – a surprise to Max! All because of a new food truck that arrived in town after he had left for vacation – situated in the park right across the street from the café. So what does Max do but head off to the food truck with the bright idea of impersonating a health inspector to drive the food truck away. But of course, the owner is the attractive Jessa (much to Max’s surprise). Pretty predictable, Max finds Jessa attractive (and to have no confusion – Jessa finds Max attractive as well). Some of the “violations” Max throws out are chuckle worthy. But soon Max’s diabolical plan starts to unravel… Jessa fixes every “infraction” quickly and without complaining. This continues on for a couple of days. Seems like Max’s plan is not working and he is developing a bit of a crush for this gal. What’s a guy to do but ask the girl out?
When Jessa and Max start the personal side of their relationship, the heat turns up. All I have to say is be careful reading this…it is HOT!
One aspect of this series I quite enjoyed is that each book also incorporates quite well all of the main characters from the other books in the series to at least some degree. We got to see more of Valerie and Logan as well as Leah and Sam. This definitely added to my enjoyment of reading about the town of Granite, Texas.
One little bone of contention – the pretending to be the health inspector could have ended a bit sooner or been played down a bit – it did seem to dominate the story. There were other story tangents that I found more interesting – like Jessa’s mother and her travel diaries or the struggles Jessa has had since her mother passed. Additionally, maybe Max should also get a handle on his temper. It was hard to read about him losing his temper so quickly. He is obviously a good guy, but seems that his “weight issues” left a bit of whole in his social handling of unpleasant situations.
Overall, this was a delightful addition to the A Perfect Fit series. I love Alison Bliss’ writing of this series and recommend you pick up this book (as well as the other two) and read them for yourself. I look forward to any new titles that may yet to come in this series.

This was a great read, full of fun and witty dialogues, loads of sizzling chemistry and passion between the sheets. I've read this entire series by Alison Bliss and every book was a reading pleasure!
I adore Alison Bliss's books! She always makes me want to embrace having a little extra meat on my bones. This is a cute story about sassy food truck owner, Jessa Gibson. When she meets Max Hager, he has her believing he's the new health inspector, so she does everything in her power to make a good impression. The fact that he's hotter than a spicy chili doesn't hurt either! This is a fun, quick read and I'd gladly revisit this RomCom again in the near future!
What’s it About? New to town Jessa Gibson's food truck is a hit and she couldn't be happier. Finally she feels like Granite, Texas is somewhere she could belong until a pesky but hunky health inspector starts telling her that she's violating some strange ordinances. Like no pink gloves! Posing as a health inspector to chase Jessa out of town and help a friend get his diner back on track has to be one of Max Hager's dumbest ideas but once he starts he can't seem to stop or to stay away from Jessa. As the two begin to give in to their mutual attraction, Max's deception weighs heavier and heavier on him but he can't seem to find a way to tell Jessa before she finds out on her own and when she finally does find out, Max realizes he doesn't want things to end between them.
Overall reaction to the story? I was excited to read More to Love because I liked Max so much in the previous book. He was a fun guy but by the time I finished this book I was wondering where that mischievous guy from On the Plus Side went! I wasn’t so keen on this version of Max who seemed like he had no direction at all, much less a sense of humor. I loved Jessa though, she was a hoot and a total foodie. The plot itself was okay but there was a “secret” that would have made for a better, stronger plot than Max’s whole lie thing. I was left going “That’s it? That’s all we get with such a big secret? A handful of pages and not much character reaction???” I had issues with the whole "Max pretends to be a health inspector" bit because it went on much longer than it should have and ignored what should have been a more significant part of the book but I did like this book as a whole, I just didn't fall in love with it.
Describe the hero in five words: Impulsive. Obsessive. Loyal. Stubborn. Secretive.
Did you like him? Meh, he was alright.
Why? Max was not the guy he was in the previous book and that was a shame because I really liked that guy and was expecting him to be the same here. He wasn’t and I think it was in big part to his lie about being the food inspector. He was so preoccupied with keeping up that ridiculous lie that he wasn’t being himself. I did like that he was the one with the eating disorder because it gave More to Love a chance to show a different perspective of some people’s war with food. There wasn’t a lot of time devoted to that though which was another puzzler because it was such a big part of Max’s life and in a way it controlled him. That was a waste of a conflict. Honestly I thought he fell flat compared to how he was as a secondary character. There was no mischief, very little humor from him, and he was a bit too much in the beginning. I will say that he remained a good friend to Valerie, despite her fiancee’s dislike of him, again another waste of an opportunity for Max to be well, the Max I fell for in the past.
Describe the heroine in five words: Confident. Spunky. Smart. Sweet. Talented.
Did you like her? Love her.
Why? Jessa is total BFF material. She’s fun to be around, easy to like, and best of all, she’s comfortable in her own skin. She wouldn’t be the type to make a fellow female feel like “The Ugly One” because she’s a wannabe supermodel or socialite. Jessa feels confident whether she’s in a pretty outfit, or her pjs and I love that about her. She knows her food too which definitely ups her BFF score, she’s definitely the type of person I could be friends with. Her charm and sweet personality hide a sassy interior though; she doesn’t take crap from anyone, more points for her! She’s just all types of awesome and she was definitely the funny one.
Let’s talk about the romance: Max and Jessa had some pretty serious sparks from the get go, and their interactions ranged from fun and flirty to down and dirty. i loved them together but I feel that the romance got dialed down A LOT due to Max's little charade. He couldn't really let go and be himself because of that dang lie! The worst part is that the lie was kept up until the last possible minute, making everything feel rushed and in a way making it seem like Max and Jessa were back at square one because Max wasn't a health inspector and that's what Jessa knew him as. She had to get to know him again in a sense and what with the lie being revealed so close to the end, I didn't feel that they had the chance to reconnect and work through that deception before the story ended. They had the makings of a great couple I just didn't feel satisfied that their story had reached the "Happy Ending" part.
How about that supporting cast? I love this group of friends, they all have different personalities that go really well together. Valerie, Logan, Sam, and Leah are all a great bunch of people. They're fun, accepting, and loyal. My one issue was with a BIG secondary secret that involves Logan. Something like that should have never been treated as an afterthought. It was a big deal and should have been properly addressed from about midway at the very latest to give Logan and the other person involved time to adjust and grow as characters from that reveal. It could have been a much better driving point for the story than keeping up Max's lie. Plus, I didn't quite get the reaction I was hoping for from Max at that little tidbit.
Click It or Skip It? Click It. I may have had some issues with Max and the plot but Jessa is too awesome to ignore and there were some good parts to More to Love that shouldn't be missed.
Max, always a chubby child, struggles with weight and living a healthy lifestyle. Everyday, he eats lunch at the diner owned by Pops. Pops is the only person who knows about Max's struggles, so he makes him "the special" every day. While the diner is usually packed, it's completely empty when Max returns from a visit with his family. A new business has moved into town and has taken Pops' business with it. In efforts to force the new business out of town, Max poses as the new health inspector.
Jessa arrives in Granite with hopes to earn enough money to open her own restaurant. Her gypsy mother always spoke highly of her time spent in Granite, so Jessa decided to give it a go. Never did she think the new, sexy health inspector would harass her. Even though she fixes the ridiculous "issues" Max finds, Max continues to show up to her food truck...As Max starts falling for Jessa, he knows he should tell her the truth but can't quite find the words.
While I enjoyed Max and Jessa's story, I wanted to smack some sense into Max! There were numerous times he could've come clean, but didn't. I understand his reservations in telling Jessa the truth, but he drug it on FOREVER! I did enjoy their unique relationship. I also LOVED the surprise twist at the end....six degrees of separation come to mind! Well done! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
More to Love by Alison Bliss is book 3 in the A Perfect Fit series. When Max Hanger moved to Granite he found a restaurant which would tailor to his healthy diet, coming back after a family visit he finds the restaurant on the verge of closing because of a new food truck in town. Jessa Gibson has always loved to cook and after hearing about her mothers travels she knows that Granite is the place she wants to go. The people seem to love her food truck and she can't wait to open up a real restaurant in town. When Max stalks over to the food truck, pretending to be the health inspector in order to scare the owner off, he definitely puts his foot in this mouth before finding out that Jessa is the owner. Worse yet he realizes that he likes her, but he's already lied to her. For Jessa, Max the health inspector has some pretty strange requirements, but she can't help but be attracted to him.
Jessa as a character is strong, witty, thoughtful and passionate. She is a fiery as her red hair and as tasty as her food. Max is more of a stick in the mud. His issues coming from being bullied for his weight as a kid. Ms. Bliss does a good job of giving Max's back story and why he is the way he is, which is good because otherwise he would have been frustrating. Jessa's story is no less poignant and more is added to it when she learns of her mom's history in granite.
Overall, More to Love by Alison Bliss was a fast paced novel, with the falsity of "Max the Health Inspector" hanging over it, but tons of passion nonetheless. I liked how the characters around them enhanced the story and Jessa sticks to what she cares about the most.
(I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
Received in exchange for a honest review.
This was fun. i love all the body positivity from the women. They owned their bodies and who they are and rocked it as well. Jessa especially. She was smart, funny, sassy, sweet and generous. Her heart was gold and she was just so sweet. She knew that it was you who made you and not the outside trappings.
Max was once a boy who was bullied for his weight. He never forgot that and was always that little boy on the inside. He was determined to change and he did only that was a change that once made he continued to do for himself and not because of how he looked on the outside. He felt good about himself with the discipline and that was why he continued it that and the fear that was still inside him from that little boy he was once. He was a mischievous guy who didn’t do things to hurt others but to give them a jolt. He is a good person just afraid to let others get to know him because of fear they will laugh at him like those in his childhood did. When you see him and know him as we get snippets throughout the book you see a sweet, kind, fun guy who has been hurt in the past and is scared of losing those that have been good to him.
He started the book wanting to help his friend who has done so much for him. He did something he normally wouldn’t but pops meant alot to him. Only this time it went further and he began to like Jessa. They got to know one another and fall in love. this muddled things for Max and he was conflicted. He messed up and was hard pressed to figure out how to fix things. To fix what is broken first one must look to fix themselves and than they can do what is needed to get the person you love back.
The book is fun and flirty. There are serious moments and they tug at your heart. As does the banter and characters. They are all friends and help one another. Even Pops is family. We see love shine through in all the couples and we see the guys show the women that they don’t care about the outside of a person but what is on the inside. The writing is flirty and fun. We get some sizzling moments, some fun moments and sweet moments like the farmer’s market. We also get some very intimate moments that show the characters vulnerability and the type of people those around them are when that occurs. Max and Jessa are especially intimate with each other. Max at the end exposes himself in a way that has you cry even after he was an idiot. The chemistry between Max and Jessa is one that shines through from the beginning. The story is one of a journey to accepting yourself, finding love and becoming vulnerability to the one we love so they can be your strength and there for you when needed. It shows love in all its aspects and Max and Jessa’s journey to forever is one filled with self discovery, fun moments, intimate moments and a adventure that puts a smile on the reader’s face especially at the end..
3 1/2 STARS!
Sweet, steamy ... and fake? *sigh* I'm so conflicted about this book! With the third book in her Perfect Fit series, Alison Bliss brings us Max's story ... a fan favorite from previously in the series. This has been a great series overall ... funny, sassy, flirty and oh so sexy ... but this book just didn't hit me the same way as the first two. I adore Max, and I loved Jessa almost from the moment we met her too, but with the major lie hanging over their head, I couldn't connect with them as a couple like I did Sam and Leah in book one and Valerie and Logan in book two. I wanted to love Max's book ... but unfortunately, it let me down. Don't get me wrong, I liked it ... it has some really down-to-earth characters and life journeys and the sass and laughter is still there ... but I didn't love it like I did the first two. It's still worth a read, and the ending was an interesting twist that we weren't expecting for sure ... but if this is the first you're reading in the series, I'd advise you to go grab Size Matters and On The Plus Side to round out your love of the characters as a whole.
New to Granite, Texas, Jessa Gibson's gourmet food truck business is booming and she's never been happier! She just knows that this is the town where she's going to make her drams of opening her own restaurant a reality, so the thriving food truck business is going to get here there quicker than she ever dreamed. The studly new health inspector seems to be coming up with strange violations on her though ... is she going to be able to keep her eyes off of his hot body long enough to fix the problems he's addressing ... even if they do seem crazy?
Electrician Max Hager starts off trying to help out a friend by pretending to be the health inspector and pestering Jessa to get her to move her location. His not quite innocent intent snowballs and before he knows it, he's spending every day stopping by the truck pretending to be the guy ... and falling head over heals for the girl in the process! Instead of coming clean, he lets the lie ride out way too long until eventually it comes crashing down around him. Will she care enough about the guy at that point to listen to his reasoning or will she send the no good liar on his way once and for all?
The latest in the Perfect Fit series “ More to Love” by Alison Bliss is another quick sweet and sassy read. This features Max, the instigator friend of the heroes and heroines of the last two books, and Jessa, a chef who runs her own food truck. The story is that Max is pretty steamed that the new food truck is taking business away from his favorite mom and pop restaurant that he likes and goes to. So, he decided to play a pretty mean trick on the bull-headed owner which ends up biting him in the rear when the sassy and sexy owner happens to be a woman. I won’t say what Max did but the attraction between Jessa and Max is immediate and the chemistry is intense. Their playful banter and witty talks are so cute; plus their sexy love scenes are so steamy, it will have you standing outside in below temps to cool off, that is how hot the scenes are between them. The thing is, when Jessa finds out what Max did, will she be willing to forgive and forgot, let bygones be bygones or will their chance at HEA be gone like smoke?
The push and pull between Max and Jessa is something that Ms. Bliss does well, and how she writes strong, sweet and sexy heroines who are proud of their voluptuous bodies. She writes about women who go thru a lot but in the end, come out stronger on the other side. Max is sort of an idiot but he redeems himself and Jessa makes him work for it-- the struggle and the end result is worth it all!!

“I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."

3.5 Hearts This is a quick read but very sweet. I enjoy the books where the characters are not perfect. Jessa is a bigger girl but Max seems to appreciate what she has. I thought the characters were good. They had depth to them. I wasn’t thrilled with Max at first but he ended up being ok in the end. I did like Jessa though.
Jessa and I would be the best of friends if she was real. She is adorable and would feed me yummy treats. I might have told her to dump Max but as I said he begins to grow on the reader.
A really cute read. Especially for the curvy girls in the world.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Why did I read this? Why? I managed to finish it but only because I forgot to download my next book.
The basic premise of the story is that Max, a local electrician, comes back to town after visiting his parents for two weeks. He finds out his friend and sort of father figure might lose his business at the end of the month because someone started parking their food truck in the park across the street from his restaurant and all, yes all, of the diner’s customers are now eating lunch at the food truck. (We will come back to this.) Max decides to help him out and pretend to be the new Health Inspector to scare of the food truck guy. Instead of a male owner, he meets Jessa. Sexist Max feels bad about trying to run off a woman but he needs to help Pops and keeps up the guise of Health Inspector. As he gets to know Jessa, and they begin having sex, Max knows he has to come clean but he is afraid to lose his lady over the lies.
Here’s my problems with this story. In More to Love, we have awkward characters and no real romantic connection. The only thing we really know aboux Max is that he was a chubby kid/teen who decided to start eating well and exercising and now is very cut. But Max fears returning to his prior chubby self and is over obsessive about what he eats. Since Max can’t cook and can only make himself bagged lettuce, he ended up being befriended by the man who owns the local diner, Pops, who makes Max a “special” every day for lunch. Special is their code for healthy meal along the lines of grilled chicken and vegatables or veggie burger and baked fries. They need a code because it is wrong to eat healthy? Maybe unmanly? Pop doesn’t have anything healthy on his menu so that Max can just order a #12? I will conceed that it is funny that whenever Max’s friend Sam comes in and asks if he can have the special too, Pops tells him that they just ran out. Of course, Sam eats a burger and fries almost every day so you wouldn’t think he would be interested in whatever special Max gets because he has to see what Max is eating every day.
Let’s stop and talk about Max’s food issue. Do you know anyone who eats super healthy or organic or everything kale, or is super into exercise who doesn’t like to talk about it, obsessively? Whether it is a runner or someone who just starts a new diet, they have to tell you every healthy meal they ate for the last week. Yet Max acts like it’s a dirty secret. His friends have to notice that he never, ever, ever eats anything decadant. So why does Max treat eating healthy like he’s wearing women’s underwear? I need the “special”, *wink*wink*.
Max is also a bit horrified by Jessa’s eating habits whether she is just having a sandwich or eating cold pepperoni pizza for breakfast. Jessa is average/plus size and doesn’t obsess about not being a size 2, nor does she obsess about what she is eating. Instead of talking to Jessa about eating healthier, Max runs home to eat. This is actually something he fears anyone find out, even more than the fact that he’s been lying to Jessa about being the health inspector.
I never felt any real connection between them, but they begin having sex even though Jessa knows it is a bad decision to sleep with a man who (she thinks) has control over her ability to do business. And not only is Max horrified by Jessa’s food choices, he keeps trying to get a rise out of her by making up stupid health violations and is disappointed when she meekly agrees to make the changes. He likes a woman with more fire! Of course he never thinks that a smart woman trying to run a business would know better than to mouth off to the man who can shut down her food truck. Jessa also overhears her friends say that they are surprised about Max and Jessa dating (although they never go on a date) because the women Max “dates” are all very thin. So far Max likes thin, spunky women who eat healthy and Jessa is none of this, and there is not much internal monologue where Max is explaining why he can’t get enough of Jessa. When his friends figure out what Max has done and question his relationship with Jessa considering that he has been lying to her, he gets angry and declares how well he knows Jessa. But really, he doesn’t. They really only have sex and not until most of the way through the story does he even bother to ask her any personal questions. And the sex scene aren’t even that great but then again Max is “well-hung” so that makes up for it, right?
Just to go back to the reason Max lies in the first place, Pop’s literally has no one coming into his diner except for Max and his friend Sam for a month. Not. One. Person. Because they are all eating every day at a food truck??? Our office cafeteria has been closed for two months now being redesigned and every day they have one or two food trucks stop in. They rotate them because each truck specializes in something different (pizza, hot dogs, cajun, etc) and each only have 5 to 10 things on their menu. They rotate them because NO ONE wants to eat that same unhealthy food truck offering for more than once in a week. You can’t tell me everyone in town is going to eat from same food truck every day for a month and no one is going into Pop’s restaurant unless there is something wrong with Pop’s restaurant. There is also just Pop there at the restaurant. Did he let go his cooks and waitresses because no one came in for a few days. Those people need to make a living too.
Yes, I am often told I analyse this stuff too much but if you are giving me a romance with no real romance between the main hero and heroine, I am going to start nitpicking the rest of the story since there is nothing else of interest going on. I wanted to just DNF and move on from this and the only reason I finished is because I forgot to download my next book. I had no wifi and it was either re-read something or just finish this.
Before deciding on accepting a review copy of this book, I looked at the other Alison Bliss story I read, Size Matters, because I simply couldn’t remember it enough to recall what I thought about her writing. I don’t know why I focused on the one good scene in the story before I grabbed this one but I did, ignoring my own notes on the poor character building in the prior book. Well, I am sorry I didn’t read my own review a bit more carefully. Worse, it wasn’t until I was writing this review that I even noticed that I started, book 2 More to Love, and tossed it because I hated the characters, all except MAX who I thought would be so funny and make a great love interest!!
This time I am going to make a note NOT to grab the next book in this series.
More To Love...the third INCREDIBLE story in Alison Bliss's popular Perfect Fit series is SOOOOOO my new favorite RomCom! Perfectly funny, perfectly sexy, and perfectly heartfelt, this story had it all! I LOVED LOVED LOVED Jessa and Max. I really liked how we not only get our curvy girl with attitude, sass, and beauty, we get a hero who has his own set of issues with food and weight. It made for such a great twist.
The push and pull between Max and Jessa kept the heat to a simmering boil and had me entertained. And the scorching heat was enough to make me feel oh so hot. The one thing that seems to stick out most for me with Alison Bliss and her Perfect Fit stories, is the way she makes you feel proud to be a curvy woman, and makes you feel like us curvy girls can get that sexy man. I think out of her Perfect Fit series, I believe More To Love would be a FABULOUS and IRRESISTIBLE movie! More To Love deserves an award and many shout outs! I can't recommend this book enough.
More To Love gets a STEAMY AND WILL MAKE YOU GRIN, CRY, AND SIGH FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
