Why did I want to review this book? Well, first, there's a dog on the cover so...duh. Second, it's a play on Back to the Future, so there better be time travel involved. Obviously, Gordon didn't have a DeLorean. Seems a bit far-fetched? He's a dog. Don't be ridiculous. He travels by time capsule. And Gordon is tasked with saving the Earth from an alien invasion.
Something that parents might like include Gordon's worry about using the time machine and coming out like The Fly.
Things the kids would like: the dog is cute, he is easily distracted by tennis balls, he does his doggie "business". Yes, he both marks his territory and poops in the yard. Um...ewww? I get enough of that at home with my own dog. I don't need to "read" about it. lol
Things both parents and kids alike would enjoy would include the characteristic shown by Gordon. He takes responsibility for his actions, mistakes and the consequences. He's brave when it comes to traveling back in time to save the future. He keeps going, even when it's tough. Though he makes a mistake, or two, or three, he goes back and makes things right.
Gordon may not be a purebred. Is he a little husky? Sure. But when a problem arises he Whippets it into shape and fixes it. This book is a graphic novel perfect for the young and early reader. If you're looking for a cute, adventurous story with a pretty cool dog, prepare for take-arf! Gordon will lead you on a wild adventure through time and space. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
A great book for lower key stage 2. Love the layout and pictures.
A bit silly and funny. Children will love the idea of a time traveling dog.
Meant for ages 7-10, this comic book about a time traveling dog is absolutely adorable. The graphics were eye pleasing and entertaining for children. Also, the book is a great way to open up conversations about the ripple effect of the things that we do (even outside of what happens if we time travel and make a change). This is a stand-alone book from A P.U.R.S.T Adventure series by Spires, though I think having read this one makes me want to check out what other adventures Gordon and his friends have been up to in the other books.
Hmmm... I can't help thinking this is a misfire, despite the other reviews being positive. It's so immature it can't be called a graphic novel, as the writing just captions the illustrations, and the two media don't ever work in parallel as and when they should. But at the same time the plot, designed to be for the very young, is one concerning multiple time travel adventures and changes in the past, and the present, and alternative presents, and all that malarkey. I was further handicapped by not knowing anything about the franchise before this, and you'd really need to be up to speed with things already, for there is so little here to ease any kind of new reader in. But what I saw didn't appeal enough to make me want to experience more.
Loved it! A great continuation of the Binky Series. Love this series.
Sadly could not review this book, because the format was not supported on my iPad. I flagged this with Netgalley, but was onky referred to their FAQs.
Hurray! Like so many sidekicks before him, Gordon is now the star of his own adventure. Gordon & Binky are great ways to introduce young readers (6-10 yrs old) to graphic novels. Animal-loving kids & adults will enjoy their hijinks and humour.
Looking for books that will engage elementary readers who are still not moving through text-heavy books. This new title introduced me to the earlier Spires P.U.R.S.T. Adventure series with Binky the Cat and now Gordon the dog. Space and time travel, save-the-world challenges, and intelligent, humorous stories may work magic for my smart second-graders who still want action and not-too-many words.
This series is just so much fun. This time Gordon the dog is in charge of making sure the liens do not attack. The aliens look a lot like fleas. But to prevent the attack he will have to use the time machine and make sure not to screw up the future. These early reader graphic novels are a hoot for any age.
