This is really a cute story. It is a simple idea, but keeps the reader eager to learn what might happen next. The pictures are nice too helping tell this story.

It starts with one character, and the action builds with each additional prop and sound. While the structure is reminiscent of There's a Monster at the End of the Book (Sesame Street), the mystery of the reveal makes this a unique romp of a story. Young children will enjoy hearing this story over and over!

I chose to review this book because of a similar title I read to my students, called _Do Not Open This Book!_, which the students absolutely love. This story, although similar, builds to an eye-catching climax which primary grade students will enjoy. Readers are told by a the book's main character that they should stop reading the book because nothing happens. Naturally, readers will want to keep reading to see if anything does happen, and that is the appeal. I would recommend this book as an addition to any elementary library collection.

Nothing Happens in This Book was a fun story of discovery out of boredom. It is amazing what can be created when you have a few objects and unlimited time. Cute story I look forward to sharing with my class.

I had a hard time connecting to the reverse psychology at the first of the book. It felt overused and too close to several other books. However, when the story changed and the main character started finding things, it began to draw some interest.

Because I found the text just fair, I was hoping the illustrations might help carry the story, but they felt rather odd and didn't work for me.

The illustrations help make this book. There are clues as to what is going to happen in the illustrations. It is a cute book for kids that is more than just words on the page.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This. Is. So. WEIRD.

But it’s kinda fun in it’s bizarreness.

Most of this book had me asking, “WHAT?!?”

The art is a bit odd.

The story is a bit nonsensical.

But maybe that’s kind of the beauty of it?

I don’t know. I liked it.

The book got 2 stars because I liked the illustrations. And it still almost only got one.

I felt like the book sends the message that the only way to get kids interested in something is to tell them it's not there. Like you're supposed to be tricking into them to keep going just to see what could be going. It 1) avoids actually having to do any work in writing a story and 2) undermines encouraging children to want to read just for the enjoyment of it.

Hmm... It's clearly a misnomer that nothing happens, but perhaps what happens is the wrong kind of happening, or isn't enough in the end... The book tells us nothing can be expected from it, until weird things get found that slowly build up a picture of circus life, enjoyment and celebration, and that's it. It seems to have the moral that everything, however odd, has its place, ie everyone, however odd, has a place (or alternatively "just tidy up, you brat!") but the whole point of it is still a little hard to reach. Worth a try, but don't expect it to be that much loved.

Nothing Happens in this Book will be a fun read for our younger elementary students. They will really enjoy how different the ending is and how the author brings everything together at the end.

I read this book and then read it with my 4 year old grandson to see what he thought about it. I was unable to hold his interest. He didn't seem interested in the story of the illustrations. There was a lot going on at the end of the book, but we could not get there as he kept asking if we could read something else. Maybe for children a bit older to teach about predicting and drawing conclusions it could be useful.

This book would be a great one to suggest for kids and parents who enjoyed The Book with No Pictures.

This book had a good concept but I just don't think that the execution was that good as it didn't have a morale to the story and I wasn't a massive fan of the images either. It is an easy read and would be good for very young children but I don't think it will keep older children entertained and it may end up being a one time read.

One of my 8 year old boys was looking for something new to read and this book caught his eye on Netgalley so I requested it for him so we could read it together. It did not disappoint. Although it is a picture book, it reminds me a lot of The Book With No Pictures by BJ Novak because it does a great job of engaging kids through humor. My son Noah also said that he really liked this book because it was so funny and that the pictures in it make it funnier. He giggled throughout reading it and wanted to immediately read it again. I recommend this book to anyone with kids ages 4-8. We absolutely love it!

I, personally, thought this book was adorable. It's exactly the kind of book my nieces and nephews love. Unlike some of the other reviewers I read, I think the beginning reverse psychology is smart. This isn't for very beginning picture book readers but also for those not quite ready for chapter books (but close). This age group is traditionally one that challenges boundaries and it's the perfect way to draw them in. The illustrations were cute but I would have liked to see more realistic ones, simply because of that specific age group that will do best with this book. I still really enjoyed the book though.

Where will this book go? It must take us somewhere. As the pages pass you realize we are headed somewhere. Could it be a parade? Here's the baton...

To say too much about this story is to give the entire thing away. And it really is something you should experience for yourself. Mr. Mouse is sure that nothing will happen in this book. Does it? Maybe. Maybe not. Read for yourself and find out. Darling illustrations add to the fun.

The narrator warns you not to open the book, they plead for you to do anything with the book other than read it. However, you soon learn that is bad advice. Plenty of things happen in this book and it is a festive and compelling build up. The illustrations have a modern twist on classic style. I felt this book was fun and entertaining and children will want to see what the big build up leads to.

2 stars.
For a story about nothing, there sure was alot going on!

This was 'just ok'. When i review kids picture books I try to see them through a childs eyes and zone into the little girl in me and see how much I like it. Sadly, this one was one I dont think I would read more than a couple times. As a little kid, you must remember how your picture books were read thousands of times. Ok, HUNDREDS of thousands, if not more! Those that we fell in love with and never got sick of, (and still as adults arent sick of them!), this just isnt one of them. For some kids it might be, just not me. Though I do like the idea of the book, that definitely has strength. Hopefully, if you chose to read it, you will enjoy it more than I did.

Should I stay, or should I go? The character keeps telling us that nothing is going to happen... but then he begins to find things that might belong to someone else. Is there really something happening in the book and we just need to keep looking?

There certainly is!

This is a fun and sweet book where the reader is encouraged to stop reading in the beginning but we know that always means that something fun is coming up!
