Poor gullible Michael and his quiet wife Angela see their peaceful nest torn to shreds one evening when ex-wife Erica comes ripping thru like the Tasmanian devil, telling Michael her daughter is missing and she may, no, most likely, no, IS his daughter. We don’t like Erica from the start. She should be at home or with the police, but no, she’s a chain-smoking, mouthy hothead, stomping into peoples’ homes and whipping butt, dragging poor Michael along in her crime spree.
And mousy little Angela, who hasn’t procreated for David yet (and feels woefully inadequate), can’t get past the fact that he may, no, most likely, no, DOES already have a daughter. Then there’s the busybody mom-in-law, the rock star sister-in-law, and some guy who thinks he’s the daughter’s real dad and is willing to punch anyone who doesn’t agree.
I got mentally worn out from all the running going on; various characters in different scenarios, all running full speed all night long. And the lack of police presence was a bit questionable; so many of the events were about people who were considered suspects doing their own police work. But I stayed glued to the end, and I enjoyed the way David wrapped up the story. I've read a number of his books in the past and I will most definitely keep on reading his work!

I’m a David Bell fan and this is the best book of his that I’ve read. It’s non-stop action from start to finish keeping me hooked the entire time. Great storyline about a missing girl and all the people affected by that and by past hurts.

This was my first Michael Bell book. I really enjoyed it even though this isn't my usual read. Michael Frazier is in for the surprise of his life when he opens the door to his ex-wife Erica. Her 9 year old daughter, Felicity is missing.....which she also springs on him happens to be his daughter. He takes off with Erica to look for their daughter mush to his wife, Angela's dismay. Once the detectives show up and start asking questions, lots of discoveries come to light for Angela. This book is full of twists and turns. Hang on for the ride, you won't regret it. Great read and definitely one click worthy!

A great novel that moves quickly and is easy to read thanks to a fast-moving plot! I read Somebody’s Daughter By David Bell within a single day. This is the first book I’ve ever read by David Bell but surely not the last.

A young girl is missing and her mother arrives at her ex-husband’s doorstep looking for his help. The only problem is, he never knew this girl existed…

When Michael Frazier’s ex-wife, Erica, shows up on his doorstep pleading for help, she drops a bombshell that threatens to rip his family apart: Erica’s nine-year-old daughter is missing–and Michael is the father. Unable to quickly determine if Erica is telling the truth, and unwilling to leave the little girl’s fate to chance, Michael has no choice but to follow the elusive trail of the child he has always wanted and never knew he had.

But finding Felicity comes at a price–the closer Michael gets to the truth, the further into jeopardy his marriage falls and the faster his family begins to unravel. As lies that span a decade bubble to the surface and the window for Felicity’s safe return closes, Michael will have just a few short days to decide who can be trusted and who is hiding the truth.

SO GOOD. Hard to put down, I had a suspicion of who took the girl and I was RIGHT!

When Michael finds out he might be the father of a missing girl, he immediately jumps into action, finding himself lost and confused on a road trip with his ex-wife. His ex-wife insists she knows who is responsible for kidnapping the little girl, but as the night progresses, Michael begins to question everything he thought he knew.

This was a suspenseful read, especially with the chapters alternating between Michael's journey and what was happening with his current wife at their home. I did see the final twist coming a few chapters before it happened, but I think that was the author's intention, to drop just enough clues so the reader could have a chance to figure it out.

The premise of this book is one that would upend anyone's world. I thoroughly enjoyed the different POV's and the way new clues were exposed throughout the story. I've heard so many good things about Bell and his novels and this one did not disappoint. I wasn't expecting the ending of this novel and loved the resolution.

This is the first book I have read by David Bell - but it definitely will not be my last!
Michael finds out he has a daughter by his ex-wife Erica. His daughter is now apparently missing and Erica wants his help. The race to find her is on - whether Michael feels that he can trust his ex at her word or not. His current wife, Angela, has her doubts and uncovers information that has her fearing for Michael.
Mr. Bell had my interest all the way through this book -I enjoy his style of writing and it really kept me turning the pages!
Thank you to David Bell, Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

Imagine finding out late one night that you have a 10 year old daughter. One you never knew you had or that was even alive. Then you find out this daughter is missing. Pretty scary and pretty effed up.

During the first 30% of this book, there is a lot of background stuff going on that just wheeled me (as if the lead in blurb wasn't enough).

There was a lot going on in this book and it definitely held my interest. I did not want to put this book down or even take a break. I had to know what in the heck was going on. The plot twists are crazy good. At one part in the book, the characters are in three different locations. The author writes a couple of pages about what's going on in each location and does this several times. It's like bulletin points as to what's going on and just keeps the action going. Major fuel to get my pulse racing.

This was my fifth book by David Bell and I can tell you that it won't be my last. He definitely gives you a lot for your money in his books. They are definitely never boring.

Michael and Angela Frazier were enjoying a quiet evening at home when their doorbell rang. Their lives were suddenly turned upside down with the appearance of Michael’s ex-wife, Erica. Her 9 year old daughter has been kidnapped and she begs Michael for his assistance. He had no idea she had a child, but he can’t understand why she’d need his help. The police would be a much better choice than him. Erica drops the bombshell that her daughter is also his daughter. Michael has no idea if this is true, but a child’s life is on the line so he drops everything to search for the girl.

Angela isn’t so easy to accept Erica’s story, but she is forced to stay home and wait for news. As Michael and Erica search for the child, secrets from the past come to the surface leaving Michael more confused than ever. Still, the number one concern is finding the little girl safe and sound. Everything else will have to wait to be sorted out.

This is a totally captivating book that grabs you from page one. I thought I knew all the answers early on, but I was wrong. There are so many layers to uncover in this suspenseful novel.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I’ve quickly become a huge fan. I’m fascinated with his writing style. I loved one of his other novels, Bring Her Home, but this one was even better. It had everything I look for in a suspense novel - non-stop action, edge-of-your-seat drama and an intricate surprise ending.

I’ll be looking forward to reading more of David Bell’s work. He’s become an “auto-buy author” for me.

This book was awesome! I got a little behind in my reading this week, but when I picked it up, I did not want to put it down! This book was so easy to read, with short chapters, that had a little cliff hanger at the end of each one.
The book starts off with Michael, who is married to Angela, having a typical night at home, when the door bell rings, and its Erica, the Ex wife of Michael. She is hysterical, pacing, and smoking, claiming that their daughter, Felicity was missing, but the kicker, Michael did not know the child existed! She asks Michael to go with her to help find their daughter, and he did. Sadly, his current wife, has been unable to get pregnant.
The book has lots of twists and turns with a shocking end!
Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this book! Pick it up, you won't be disappointed. This is my first book by the author, David Bell, but won't be my last!

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for an e-ARC of Somebody's Daughter by David Bell in exchange for an honest review. A doorbell rings at 8:16 PM at the home of Michael and Angela Frazier and the lives of the Frazier family are about to be forever changed. Michael opens the front door to come face-to-face with Erica, his ex-wife from 10 years ago. She informs him that their 9-year-old daughter Felicity, whom Michael did not know existed, has been kidnapped. In less than 24 hours, the story will develop with many twists and turns. From that point on, we are also introduced to Michael's mother Gail and his sister Lynn. Add in some dedicated police detectives and the story takes off. All of the Fraziers willl have their lives turned upside-down due to lies from the past. Who kidnapped Felicity? Why was Felicity kidnapped? Will she be found alive? Who is her biological father? Each chapter tells us about a different character's journey, adding to the suspense and keeping the reader's interest. This is my first David Bell novel but it will not be my last. A great read.

Somebody's Daughter moves at a relentless pace from the moment the story opens on a quiet, otherwise uneventful evening at 8:16 p.m. Michael Frazier and his wife, Angela, are shocked to find his ex-wife, Erica, on their doorstep, claiming that her nine-year-old daughter, Felicity, has been kidnapped. She begs Michael to help search for the girl, announcing that Michael is the child's father. Angela has been under the impression that neither Michael nor any member of his family has remained in touch with Erica during the decade since their divorce. and is stunned that Erica would turn up making such a claim. Michael knows that he and Erica continued their physical relationship right up to the point that their relationship broke up, so Erica could be telling the truth. If she is, and the child he has never known is missing, he can't refuse Erica's desperate plea. Promising that he will be back soon, he leaves with Erica. And leaves Angela with myriad questions.

Throughout the night, the police search for the child, as do Michael and Erica. Angela also gets involved in the hunt, unable to simply sit at home and do nothing. In the process, her mother-in-law, Gail, reveals details about Erica's life in the years since Michael ended their marriage, and Erica's menacing former boyfriend arrives on the scene.

Detective Erin Griffin and her partner, Jim Twitchell, are assigned to the case. Griffin is recently divorced. She also miscarried a child. Her intuition inspires her to follow clues that other members of the police force discount. In particular, her misogynistic colleagues accuse her of being overly emotional and relating too deeply to the case. She is appropriately outraged and offended -- but undeterred.

As the long night wears on, Angela learns truths about Michael and his family that bring into question everything and everyone she has trusted. Michael's family is revealed to be more deeply and profoundly troubled by the death many years ago of his younger sister, Robyn. Erica's struggles as a single mother and her behavior in reaction to those challenges is revealed to have been deeply troubling on occasion.

Bell has crafted an intense, compelling mystery in which virtually every character is a suspect -- for good reason. The deeply flawed characters are empathetic and believable. He injects clues to Felicity's fate at deftly-timed intervals and, in due course, eliminates suspects as the tension gradually builds to a shocking conclusion. Somebody's Daughter is simply un-put-down-able because as the story progresses it is apparent that Bell could opt to resolve the story in many different ways. The conclusion he ultimately provides is well-reasoned and, overall, emotionally satisfying, if a bit rushed and lacking complete resolution of all details.

This book was a great read in suspense. A combination of a family drama, who-dunnit, and a lot of "what the heck". I especially liked that the whole book spans about an 18-hour period so did not drag at all.

I felt the emotions and actions of all of the characters where believable. From Michael being torn between his loyalty and love for his wife to trying to figure out if Felicity is his daughter, to Angela loving and trusting her husband, but trying to keep the faith in their relationship. And while some may question some of Erica's actions or decisions, what would you do if your child was missing?

This book definitely has a wide cast of characters but I thought it was fairly easy to keep them all straight. The added characters gave a deeper dimension to the story and the twist and turns. They also aided it keeping the reader guessing. I thought the end was well written and while it wasn't a complete shock, there were enough questions thrown in throughout the story that I can't say I entirely had it figured out.

I have read a few of David Bell's previous books and while I have enjoyed them enough to keep reading others by him, I can honestly say I feel this one surpasses the rest.

I'd like to thank David Bell and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

WHEW! This book was intense to me - chapters were written from 3 POV's and each time there was a cliffhanger from 1 POV, I felt compelled to read "just one more chapter" to get to what happened next! This was a great read and would highly recommend to anyone that loves the differing POV's while reading AND twists!

It's no secret that I'm a fan of Bell. His writing is addictive as he writes short hanging chapters that keep you turning page after page. All three I've read from him have something to do with a daughter being gone. What else can he do with these poor girls!! I'll always want to know!

I couldn't imagine having my husband's ex-wife show up on my front porch saying their child that he had no idea he had, is missing. I mean, BOOM - what a way to start. (Also, I can't particularly imagine having a husband but that's a whole other story - ha!😜) All jokes aside, this immediately set my curiosity sparks firing. Somehow Bell manages to build these characters and their complex lives in a very short time. No over indulgent descriptives that can get overwhelming in some books.
Look, I'm a fan. I can't help but know I will always want to read whatever he puts out into this world. I can't quite pinpoint what it was that made me not like this quite as much as Cemetery Girl. At one point I felt like I was left hanging with one plot line but then realized it did get answered in the end but I was curious - what happened to those other characters though? Such a relative thing since they were really tertiary characters but still... I have to say the fact that he had me thinking about these still is a tip of the hat to Bell.

For thriller fans who love domestic suspense and a binge read, Bell is always the way to go.

Somebody's Daughter by David Bell is the first novel I have read by Mr. Bell; I will certainly read another as I liked his writing style if not necessarily the story-line, predictable and unrealistic to me.

When the doorbell rings the last person Michael expected to see was his ex-wife Erica . Erica’s missing her 9 year old daughter Felicity who might be Michael's daughter or might not be Michael's daughter. Erica wants Michael's help finding their daughter. Michael then embarks on a journey with his ex-wife while his current wife Angela tries to solve the mystery herself unraveling Michael's family secrets along the way.

There are a lot of characters in this book but I never really cared about any of them. Everyone seemed so scattered, so dysfunctional, so ready to accept any crazy story.

Going to give Mr. Bell another chance but for me this one was just OK., a good enough quick read.
