This book goes deep into the "intertextuality" of the Bible and how the major Exodus event, early in the Biblical narrative, influences the rest of the Bible, not just through direct quotation, but also through allusion and echo. The book is written fairly academically. I consulted my dictionary often. The message of the book is a good one though- it doesn't only focus on the Exodus story throughout the rest of Scripture (though that in itself is very helpful), but it also highlights the importance of having a hermenuetic that values understanding meaning of specific texts in the context of the whole.
In "Echoes of Exodus," Estelle offers a Genesis through Revelation reading of scripture which focuses on the way the themes within the story of the exodus from Egypt are both foundational and formational to the overall narrative of the Bible. As Estelle demonstrates, Exodus themes appear again and again, and liberation, redemption, and deliverance are central to the biblical story. This is a great resource for students and laypeople who are wanting insight into the way this important theme is woven throughout the Bible.
