This book contains some interesting concepts and I love any books published by Oni Press, but this one unfortunately did not hold my attention. I really wanted to love it and the art is fantastic. Although, I have to admit the man with the million cats was hilarious and the way he was drawn made me laugh. That character was funny, and I found Kim and her friend from school to be very likeable characters.

A cute and entertaining story featuring LGBT characters and a fun plot. I didn't know anything about the author going in, but I'll definitely be getting more of her work. This was a cute, funny, and worthwhile story.

A cute graphic novel in which a human is working as the only non-eternal Grim Reaper. Likes: Kim & Becka. All the cats. Ghouls!

Also as someone who does a lot of outreach with the middle school set, I'm super excited that this is rather clean. I can booktalk this to my fifth and sixth graders!

*mini review goes live 3/5!*

Becka has a super huge crush on goth cutie Kim. Though they're only in an art history class together, Becka is determined to ask her out on a date and follows Kim after class one day...only to fall through a portal. It turns out that Kim is doing a part-time gig as a Grim Reaper. Becka's appearance in the Underworld soon sets off a chain of events (including being chased by zombies). Is Kim really worth it? Totally.

Kim Reaper is SO SO SO great. Cute and funny and captivating, seriously, I was hooked the entire time and absolutely inhaled this one. I mean, a suspended Grim Reaper who takes a job at a bakery? How could I pass that up? This was adorable and I'm looking forward to the next volume!

The teens in my library have a tendency to ask me, "Is it gay?" when I suggest a comic to them. If the answer is yes, they are exceedingly pleased and so even just for that I would be purchasing this title. Thankfully it's also a delightful little tale of a human who becomes a grim reaper and the girl who has a giant crush on her. I appreciate that neither of the girls are perfect and that they are both concerned with being in a healthy relationship, not just being with someone they think is attractive. I can safely suggest this to our teens and know they will love it!

Umm… HELLLOOOO CUTENESS! I received this ARC on a total whim! This was the equivalent of a “cover-buy,” and I could not be happier! The art is colourful and goth and adorable and the love story was perfect! This graphic novel is about two seemingly opposite college girls (Becka is a baker and Kim is a “part-time” grim-reaper!), falling in love and then fighting the supernatural! They travel to the underworld, and while you may expect a certain level of macabre with that setting, the art remains soft-lined and bubbly. I really enjoyed the LGBT rep. and was happy to see that the purple/black – creepy/cute aesthetic that initially drew me in was carried through the entirety of the comics.

I really struggled to like this personally, but can appreciate I may not be in the target demographic.
Art style is 'cute' but uneven, and the narrative rambles incoherently with little plot or character development.
Very reminiscent of emerging/first-time indie comics purchased at cons rather than a published novel from an established company.

I'm obsessed with this. I love Kim and Becka. This is hilarious and adorable at the same time. I don't know how the artist managed to make a book about grim reapers, ghouls, zombies, and dead cats so cute, but she did. This was a delight to read. Becka's crush on Kim was so fun, and I loved their relationship.

"It's full of skeletons and junk, and I have a skeleton inside of me. Which makes me goth Tyler"

The book gods have answered and have granted us the cutest graphic novel of the lands!!

We are first introduced to Becka who has a MAJOR SERIOUS crush on this goth chick named Kim in her class. She follows Kim down a hallway trying to get her attention when all of a sudden, Kim walks into a portal that looks similarly to a vortex of death. Low and behold, Kim is actually a part time reaper. Whodathunk?

This was intensely hilarious and intriguing and fabulous! I really loved the art! It told an awesome story and it was lively and the expressions were perfect. I giggled quite a few times, it's just really hilarious. Who doesn't like a sassy LGBTQ+ couple??

So yes, THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE AND I LOVE IT.

Ridiculously cute and entertaining, this reminds me of the Lumberjanes mixed with Gravity Falls! I can't wait to see what Kim and Becka get up to next!

This was so cute!!

Mega Super Cute!!!

If you enjoyed Lumberjanes, Moonstruck, Coady and the Creepies, or Space Battle Lunchtime then I think you will enjoy this too. It definitely gets a bit ridiculous at times [like when a super muscley dude with 500 cats shows up] but it's a lot of fun and I'm definitely loving this new trend of cute/hilarious/paranormal/queer comics that have been coming out lately. Definitely recommend this!

Cute and utterly absurd! Becka, a girl-crazy art student, discovers that her crush is actually a part-time Grim Reaper... and winds up dragged into Kim's supernatural adventures. Reads like a mash-up of Giant Days and Lumberjanes, but without the ensemble cast.

2 stars.

Meh, this simply just wasnt for me. It wasnt bad at all. The illustrations were good, the two main characters ended up being cute together. But the story itself, though funny a bit at times, I donno. Just wasnt for me but I can see why others enjoy it and I really liked that it was lesbian themed too.

I am sad to say that I did not enjoy it. The art is super cute and colorful, exactly like Steven Universe. However, I find that I did not enjoy and connect to the characters, especially Becka, and the story feels allover the place and tries too hard to be quirky. I think others will enjoy it, but not me.

A great first bind up of the Kim Reaper series. I loved the characters and loved the way that the LGBT+ story line was weaved throughout. The art style was great and the characters were drawn so cute. I loved Kim and thought she developed really well over the course of the story. It wasn't long enough for me as i wanted more about these characters right away!

Light, silly, and fun.

Becka crushes hardcore on her classmate Kim, and accidentally discovers that Kim is a part time grim reaper when she falls down a portal Kim opened. Becka is kind of a goofball, so hijinks ensue as they get into one weird situation after another.

Even though this is set in college/university it would appeal to younger teens.

What a wild ride, holy shit!! I was honestly in love from the very first page when our protagonist said she definitely is at uni to stare at btfl girls... I mean, talk abt relatable content!!

So yeah, this is a story abt Becka and the goth girl she has a crush on, Kim, who's a grim reaper. Totally no big deal, that happens all the time, right. They get into some hilarious & ridiculous shenanigans together, it's truly a great fun! But one of the things I loved most is that Becka is very unapologetic in her beliefs and gets to call Kim out on her bullshit one or two times. Pls, get me more bi heroines of color like that!! Cute and strong, that's my type.

The art is also real fun in this one, doesn't take itself too seriously which works out Great with a story like this one!!! A truly amazing choice.

I will definitely buy a physical copy of this & oh boy, I can't wait to see how this story further unfolds.

Kim Reaper was a graphic novel I needed the minute I read the blurb. Grim reaper with a twist plus f/f romance at its core!! Yes I wanted it!!

Kim Reaper is told from the POVs of Becka & Kim. Becka has crushed on Kim for a long time and finds the courage to ask her out; only she witnessed sometime she wasn’t expecting and is pulled into a world she doesn’t belong to. Kim is a grim reaper and enjoys her job. However life is about to get complicated!

Honestly I enjoyed this graphic novel. I found it fun & quirky and I couldn’t help but want Becka & Kim together. Their characters were delightful and realistic. Becka has her moments but to be fair it was understandable giving the circumstances and it made her appear more human.

The romance was adorable I won’t lie. I shipped them. I liked the diversity elements of the comic. Becka is a poc of color who is also queer. Possibly bisexual or pansexual it’s never started. Kim is also queer. Of course this made me enjoy the comic that much more.

The art was unique and wonderful. It was very clear that the illustrator put a lot of time into developing the pictures and different scenes.

While there was a lot I liked there was also a lot I didn’t. I grew irritated while reading at times. Mostly towards the end. While the beginning was great everything started to go down hill in the middle and towards the end. This comic lacked a plot. Nothing that happened made much sense and wasn’t explained. It made the comic appear undeveloped and frankly all over the place. The artwork & characters were amazing but not enough to ignore the plot. The first two issues started out fantastic but after it went down hill.

Overall, I did enjoy this graphic novel. However I can’t look past the lack of plot which in turn brought my enjoyment down as the comic went on. I’d still recommend for the diversity elements, romance and artwork if nothing else.
