So. Much. Fun!! This is a cozy with magical garden and an American living in Scotland. It was so well done and immensely enjoyable to read. The main character has been terribly jilted but her character comes across as smart, confident and assured. No whiny girl at this party! The new love interest is a good one and the secondary characters were very well developed. I am happy to have read the first in the this series and will be eagerly watching for the next.

Flowers and Foul Play, the first Magic Garden Mystery by author Amanda Flower, introduces American Fiona Knox who has inherited a small Scottish cottage and garden from her late godfather, Ian MacCallister. The inheritance was a shock, and couldn't have come at a better time since her fiance jilted her and she lost her business all within the same week. Even more remarkable, however, is the revelation that the garden is magical, and with Ian's passing Fiona is now its keeper. She's also inherited its elderly caretaker, Hamish, and it is with him that she discovers a dead body in the garden upon her arrival. Enter handsome Chief Inspector Neil Craig, and other charismatic residents of Bellewick, and you have a very charming cozy mystery, complete with murder and magic. Nicely written story, and the outcome was a surprise! A+

Flowers and Foul Play is the first in the Magic Garden Series by Amanda Flower. It is a nice cozy little mystery that will keep you guessing. When Ian McAllister dies he leaves his cottage and magical garden to his goddaughter Fiona Knox, an American. She had grown close to her godfather since the family made frequent trips to Scotland. After a broken engagement and the failure of her business Fiona goes to Scotland to claim her inheritance. The day she arrives she discovers a body in the garden who turns out to be the lawyer handling the estate. Immediately the law is called and she becomes a suspect along with her godfather's caretaker Hamish. She has an alibi but a shadow still hangs over Hamish. Very quickly over the next few days the suspects grow as she decides to do some investigating much to the chagrin of the local law officer.

The murderer could have been a number of people since nobody really liked the lawyer. A lot of people had the motive but who did it? It kept me guessing until the very end. The story got really suspenseful when she figured out who it was and with her life in danger.

Thanks to Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for providing me a digital copy of this book to read and review. Flowers and Foul Play is due to be released on May 8, 2018. I look forward to reading more cozies in this series

Not my favorite cozy -- I've enjoyed the author's other series much more. I guess unexplained magic just isn't my thing. I also wasn't invested in the solution of the murder and I was distracted by typos.

Strong main female character, great setting in Scotland, good looking Chief Inspector what's not to like? I am looking forward to the next in the series. The secondary characters were interesting as well and can't wait to see what happens with the garden.

I received an advanced copy from Netgalley for an honest review.

This book was such a joy to read I don't even know where to begin. We meet Fiona whom has just lost her fiancé and business. Her beloved godfather passed away and left her his family home. Feeling lost, Fiona takes off to the Scottish Highlands to claim her inheritance and attempt to find herself again. No sooner does she step foot on what is now her property, she finds a dead body and is plunged headfirst into a murder mystery.
This book was beautifully written with such a touch of magic I could not put it down. The characters were wonderfully quirky and endearing. The story line was well thought out and written. Such a strong start to an enchanting series.

I thought Fiona was going to have a pity party was I ever wrong. This protagonist showed courage, understanding and backbone. I loved how she questioned not just herself but those around her. The mystery is solid and the author captured and created the secondary characters just well if not better than her main heroine. The paranormal aspect didn't overshadowed the mystery and I truly appreciate that.

Fiona Knox has lost both her fiance and her florist shop, so when she hears she’s inherited a cottage in Scotland from her godfather, she’s ready for a new beginning. Once in Scotland, she arrives at her new cottage to find the formerly lovely garden stone dead. She also finds the attorney handling her godfather’s estate in the garden in the same shape- stone dead. Her godfather’s elderly retainer Hamish is on scene, along with a number of wily wild animals, and the local police detective, Neil Craig, thinks old Hamish may be the killer. But Alastair, the attorney, had plenty of enemies (even for a lawyer) and Fiona vows to find the real killer. This was a delightful mystery with a magical garden that will only thrive for one person and a lot of eccentric characters and tricky animals. Also, the last line of this book may be my favorite ending to a book, ever
