The second installment of the Cimarron Creek series by Amanda Cabot features Catherine Whitfield, the town’s schoolteacher. Her mother has recently passed away, and Catherine harbors hate in her heart for the town doctor. She also struggles with giving up the dreams she had—dreams of traveling to France with her mother, dreams of a husband and children, and dreams of feeling at peace.
When Austin Goddard arrives in Cimarron Creek with his young daughter, he feels as if he’s finally arrived at the place of safety God has lead him too. At first, he’s sure that the powerful man who seeks him will never find him. As he settles into his life on the ranch, he worries about his young daughter, Hannah, who has retreated into near silence since their hasty flight from Philadelphia.
Austin and Catherine form a friendship over trying to help Hannah and Austin’s neighbor boy, Seth. Before long, their friendship blossoms in to something more—but can they hope to form a lasting relationship with both harbor secrets?
If you enjoy inspirational romance, you’ll enjoy this Texas tangle with just the right amounts of romance, inspiration, and suspense.
A BORROWED DREAM by Amanda Cabot. Revell Publisher
Take a trip back to 1881 , Catherine is a school teacher, with haunting dreams. Of being in Paris, a woman who looked like her, and looking at her, but couldn’t save her. A new rancher in area, a widower, wanting to keep his daughter Hannah safe, coming from Paris, and would be a new student. Austin had a past, and wanted to keep it that way, had a good kid helping him at the ranch. This was a good plot, and you love the characters. A training that had to be denied, because someone was after you. Or the abuse of children, when father values his cows over his son. It is a touching story that Amanda does so well, as in her other books. Given ARC by Net Galley and Revell Publisher for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
