This is a book about lies, secrets, friendship, relationships, mental illness, affairs, and fighting sexual attraction.

There are quite a few characters to get familiar with. Some are married. Some have children. Some are trying for a baby. Some have issues with their parents. The one thing they all have in common ... they all harbor at least one secret and will lie and lie and lie to keep those secrets from being exposed to the light of day.

These people have known each other for many years .. some since childhood, some since college days. They all think they really know each other .. but they have no idea.

I can't say I like any of them. They all are so flawed, so disturbing, but then, I'm sure that's what the author was hoping for ... and it worked. I got so wrapped up in all the angst and uncertainty and anger and wondering who was going to break and admit to something horrendous, that it was impossible to put this book down for any reason. The unexpected ending was my favorite part.

The author has created characters that get in your head and refuse to let go.

Many thanks to the author / Avon Books UK / Netgalley / TBC Reviewer Request Group. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

It’s wonderful when a local author “does good” so I’m overjoyed that Manchester ex-lawyer Caroline England continues her successful writing career with another best selling domestic noir. After the wonderful Beneath The Skin, here is another slice of deliciously dark and intensely voyeuristic look into the lives of a group of friends. If you’re one of those people who looks at their neighbours and acquaintances wondering if their rosy life is as perfect behind closed doors then this is the book for you!

At the very start of My Husband’s Lies, there is a rather shocking turn of events when a woman is discovered on the ledge of a hotel window on Nick and Lisa’s wedding day. Why is she there and what were her true intentions? We soon get to dig deeper into the true feelings of these supposedly happy couples to see that beneath the surface there are many secrets and lies, some of which are about to be uncovered. And no one will be able to escape unscathed.

What Caroline England does so well in her books is to really bring her characters to life. This is definitely a slow burner of a plot but it’s the characterisation that keeps you pushing through the narrative, desperate to uncover the life stories of her protagonists. The characters aren’t always very likeable and sometimes you will be despairing of the choices that they are making, but in the end you just want to be able to see them happy. Dan especially was a favourite of mine and the relationships he had were painfully breathtaking to go through with him.

Although this is a much darker book than Beneath The Surface, it isn’t depressing due to an unexpected humour and a real depth of feeling for the characters from the authors writing skills. The ending completely blindsided me as I wasn’t expecting the turns that the last few pages took. And once I did see where it was going, I wanted to desperately backtrack so that it didn’t!!

It did take me a while to get into My Husband’s Lies and work out in my mind who was who and who was with whom, as there were a lot of characters to remember within the first few chapters, but if you’re also struggling then do be aware that it does get easier to distinguish the relationships the more you read. This is a compelling insight into married life that will have you comparing notes with your girlfriends! Caroline England has a great future ahead of her!

A testament to the legacy of lifelong friendships, MY HUSBANDS LIES is a clever page turner about childhood alliances and their evolution over time. Such a busy novel with so much going on between four friends and respective spouses that you will occasionally have to give yourself a little head shake to remember the unique connections between the couples.
Jen, the much-loved hub of the group, can hardly believe that she now is the mother of three daughters, working a meh career, married to Ian who turns into a total grump when his team doesn’t win. Handsome Dan is on the uncertain precipice of new fatherhood whilst his girlfriend Geri waits patiently for him to get on board the pregnancy train. Newly married Nick is not sure that he has made all the right decisions up to this point and is more than a little suspicious that his family are keeping some secrets from him. Will is in love with someone else but is powerless to anything about it when his wife Penny needs him now more than ever.
To bring this all together, we have a wedding. Penny isn’t quite sure why she was standing four stories up in the window of her hotel room when she was supposed to be watching the service, but the effect this act has on the wedding party will never be forgotten. Her husband Will is mortified that his wife has caused such a disruption (was she intending to jump?) and the ripple effects of this one incident last long after the big day.
There is much to like about MY HUSBANDS LIES. We have an intimate view over the shoulders of four people who thought that they would be together forever, but in reality, time has been gradually easing them apart. It’s a long time for a group of school friends to stay at this level of closeness, and you do get the feeling that this closeness has caused the differing levels of arrested development in all four. It’s a little claustrophobic, and no one’s bad behaviour goes unnoticed.
The majority of this book will have you sharply curious as to what will happen to the fab four with growing concern for their welfare as they hurtle to the conclusion. The ending is little short of bizarre but perhaps that was the intention. Its also unclear, as the character winding it all up has not been under the focus for most of the novel. The title doesn’t quite fit with the book either – whose husband does it refer to?
The characters are written so well in MY HUSBAND’S LIES, including the supporting characters, that there is a burning desire to find out what happens next after the final few explosive pages. This novel will keep you deeply immersed in the various tangled webs woven, and leave you with plenty of questions.

DNF at 27%

If I had to give I a rating it would be 3 of 5 cause the idea is actually good.

I think I never saw a most confusing book. There're too many characters and I just couldn't follow everyone, didn't know who was who and who was related to who. I was lost all the time. It just didn't work for me. I felt like it has twenty characters lol

I loved the synopsis, but I just wasn't hooked up and that is the most important thing a book needs to do. It has to not let me put it down, or at least make me wanna go back to it - cause you know, sometimes a book doesn't hook us up in the first turn. But this one I can't even think about picking it up again in a near future.

To be utterly honest, I wanna pick this one again one day and give it another try.

Where to start with My Husband’s Lies without giving anything away? I’m not sure I can. This book is so full of secrets and twists and turns spoilers are hard to avoid. I’m going to try by just talking broad brushstrokes and seeing how that works.
It starts with a wedding, one which introduces you to four childhood friends – Nick (who’s wedding day it is), Will, Dan and Jen, all of whom, I think it’s fair to say, are slightly messed up. Not one of them is completely happy and not one of them seems capable of being honest, with themselves or others.
So far, so like a lot of books out there. What made this one stand out for me was how painful all their stories were and how heart-breaking. I also liked how none went where I expected them to go. For any of the four to be happy, people they loved would need to get hurt. It was all very messy, just like life.
Having read England’s previous book, Beneath The Skin, the way the story was told (alternating chapters for each character) and the way it unfolded (it’s a slow build) was probably what I expected. And this made me happy. I had really enjoyed Beneath the Skin and I wasn’t disappointed here. Liked it a lot!

EXCERPT: Ah, there's the voice again, soft and reassuring.

'Pitter, patter, pitter, patter.'

She leans forward to listen.

'Listen to the. . .'

But a shriek spoils the moment, too loud in her ears. She looks down and teeters.

'Oh my God, look! There's someone at that window. Oh my God, quick, someone help! I think she's going to jump!'

ABOUT THIS BOOK: Do you really know your friends?

On the afternoon of Nick and Lisa’s wedding, their close friend is found poised on a hotel window ledge, ready to jump.

As the shock hits their friendship group, they soon realise that none of them are being as honest with themselves – or with each other – as they think.

And there are secrets lurking that could destroy everything.

MY THOUGHTS: How well do you know your spouse? Your friends? Can you really tell when they are lying?... or do you just think you can? Or maybe you trust them. Implicitly.

The A-Team - Nick, Dan, Will and the 'honorary fella' Jen - their friendship has survived the teenage years and young adulthood, and now there is marriage and children. Still thick as thieves, they are each other's best friends, each other's rocks. They know each other inside out. But do they? And what of their spouses? How do they fit in to this tight little group? And then there are the siblings who existed on the fringes of this group, and the wider families, parents, uncles and aunts, godparents. . . All with their own secrets. All fiercely guarding those secrets. All lying. So it wasn't just 'My Husband’s Lies'. . .

Caroline England does a great job of depicting her characters, all so very human, so very fallible. There did seem to be a lot of characters initially, confusingly so, and I had a bit of trouble keeping who was who straight. At that point the whole 'alternating point of view narration' only made it more confusing, but that wore off as the book progressed, and My Husband’s Lies became intriguing. Right to the end, I had no idea where it was going to go.

This is a delicious read. It is not suspenseful. It is twisty. Unexpected. Dramatic. And this won't be the last book by Caroline England that I read.

A perfect summer read to keep you captivated til the last sentence...
The number of times you turn a page and exclaim "OMFG" is what keeps you riveted to another page turner by the talented Caz England! Much like her debut novel, Beneath The Skin. Caroline has an intriguing way of interlocking her characters, and you have to pay attention, but that's what keeps you hooked. Secrets, lies, deception, innocence, and adultery...the perfect recipe for another excellent read. To say any more would spoil the artfulness of the narrative.

This isn't my usual genre but I did enjoy this tale of four friends and their journeys to self-realisation. Nick, Will, Dan and Jen have been friends since childhood (it did take a bit of work to remember who was who and who was attached to who) and they all have their secrets and lies.

The novel moves at pace and unravels the back stories of each of the main characters. I can't say that I warmed to any of the individuals but it kept my attention. If you like a domestic drama with a bit of a twist then this one is for you.

It’s the first book I’ve read by this author, but I’ll be seeking out more for sure.
It revolves around four school friends known as The A Team…. Nick, Dan, Will and Jen. And their respective partners and family. The cast was rather large, but I soon got to know everyone. It’s a bit like a dark soap opera and I could easily imagine it being on the telly.
Each chapter is told by one of The A Team, some chapters tell the same thing but from the perspective of a different character.
I loved the way the friends and their family knew each other, interacted together. Even though they’ve known each other all these years there are things they certainly don’t know about each other. Little things, and big, massive, huge things!
It starts with the incident at Nick and Lisa’s wedding, but looking into the lives (past and present) of everyone things start to be revealed to the reader.
I thoroughly recommend this book. It’s darkly compelling.
I loved the ending. Wham. ‘Av’it. No messing around!
Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the review copy in which I give my honest opinion.

The opening scene of the book is one of panic as one of the female guests at their friends' wedding reception steps up on the balcony of their room dressed only in her underwear, seemingly intent on stepping over the edge.
We then move to a point earlier in the day as the guests and major players in the ceremony are arriving at the church; Best Man Dan Maloney and heavily pregnant wife Geri are just getting out of the car when the other Best Man Will Taylor and his wife Penny screech to a halt next to them in a flashy car. Apparently groom Nick Quinn couldn't decide which of his oldest school friends was most deserving of the position of Best Man so elected to have both of them. Sorting the characters and their associated other halves took some getting into my head at first and I have to admit that I needed to write myself a cast of characters in order to work out the relationships - something I regularly referred to as the book went along, as this is a tale with lots of overlapping strands of story from each individual.
It quickly becomes clear that the group has a lot of history between them as they have been close friends since schooldays. It also becomes clear that there are lots of secrets between the various friends, some known between certain friends and others which are kept very close to the character's chest and only come flooding out later on.
I am finding it really difficult to review this book without giving away key points of the plot, but suffice to say that I had very mixed feelings about some of the secrets being kept by at least 2 of the main friendship group. And then to discover that one of the others in the group had actually had their suspicions for many years and had said nothing also had me mulling over whether they were right to keep schtum.
There are some serious issues lurking in the background of this novel - some relating to recent revelations regarding Catholic church officials which have hit national news headlines, others concerning mental health issues and how they are handled by both professionals and within the patient's friendship/family groups.
The whole novel overall raised the question in my mind of just how well we actually know anyone despite them being either a family member or a friend of many years standing. Sometimes people just don't feel able to share their inner most feelings with anyone and the effects of this can be devastating unless confronted.
A short way into this book I did wonder if I was going to enjoy it but the author really did manage to keep me intrigued with attention grabbing nuggets of information trickling into the mix at perfectly timed intervals so that by the end I was very impressed with her ability to write a truly satisfying tale with lots of layers to the plot.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a very good book to get completely gripped by.

I read and reviewed Caroline’s previous book ‘Beneath The Skin’ last year. I really enjoyed reading it and so when I heard that she was releasing another book called ‘My Husband’s Lies’, I just knew that I had to read it. I am so glad that I did as I absolutely loved it but more about that in a bit.
The book focuses on a particular group of friends. Each person has their own distinctive personality and as you would expect, certain tensions exist within the group. Following an incident where one of the group is rescued from teetering on the edge of a window ledge. She is ready to jump but thanks to one of the men she is rescued. This incident forces each and every member of the group to re-examine their lives and they come to realise that they haven’t been as honest with the others as they think they have been. Then a whole lot of secrets and skeletons keep tumbling out of the closet. I’m not going to type too much about the specific skeletons that are uncovered as that would be giving too much away. What I will say is that some of the secrets are truly shocking.
Blimey oh riley what a read this was. I am a nosy devil (but at least I admit it), who loves to gossip and I just loved discovering all the secrets of this friendship group. The story starts in a memorable way and hits the ground running. The pace is maintained throughout with each and every secret that comes out. Just when you thought that things couldn’t get any worse, another even more shocking secret came to the fore. The author’s writing style is such that you can’t fail to be drawn into the story and before you know it you are hooked. I became hooked on reading this book from the moment I read the first page and the book had me in its grip until the moment I closed the back cover. The chapters are written from the point of view of the different characters. Now that might sound confusing but this way of telling the story works really well, the chapters interlink really well and the story flows smoothly. The majority, if not all, of the characters are skilled manipulators and know what to do to get exactly what they want and what they want other people to do.
To conclude I really enjoyed reading this tale of secrets and lies and what happens when those secrets are uncovered. I enjoyed reading ‘My Husband’s Lies’ just as much as I loved reading ‘Beneath The Skin’. I can’t wait to read what comes next from this hugely talented author. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 4* out of 5*.

I'm afraid that I've had to DNF this at 8%. I really couldn't get into the writing style; it just seemed very disjointed and didn't flow for me and I was struggling to read it. My main issue hear was the writing, I had no idea what had happened in the prologue apart from a woman, who was convinced her husband was lying about it raining (?), ends up on a ledge. It was written very very strangely and like I said just didn’t flow. The first chapter was the same, there were a good few names introduced but I had no idea who any of them were because they were sort of just mentioned. There was the Penny woman who was just strange, and I didn’t understand what she was about, and it was just a real struggle to read through. I’d also seen a lot of mediocre reviews for this book saying that there were too many characters involved and that it was hard to keep track and, in the end,, I decided not to carry on as I have a lot of books which I have yet to read. Overall, I didn’t enjoy the small part that I did read which is a real shame because the concept sounded great.

I've left a 3-star review, so it won't bring the overall rating down and because I have to leave a star rating to leave a review.

Jaysus, this book is absolutely crazy and messed up - in an utterly compelling and gripping way but messed up all the same!!

At a wedding reception a group of old friends and their respective partners gather to celebrate and reminisce but when one of them steps out on a window ledge it will set off a chain reaction among the group where long-buried secrets, lies, and betrayals will come bubbling up to the surface with unimaginable consequences.

This book follows a group of friends - Dan, Nick, Will, and Jen and their loved ones - and each chapter lets us see into a particular character and what is happening in their life (both past and present). I really enjoyed the wide sweep of characters and found it easy to keep up with all of the drama.

Cheating, damaged childhoods, first love, lies, mental health, sexual attraction, friendship, and love are just some of the issues that MY HUSBAND'S LIES by Caroline England dives into and I could not put this book down until the very end - and what an ending!! There are characters that I felt compassion for and characters that irritated me no end with their selfishness, but at all times I was hooked into the story and needed to know more and that is always a sign of a good novel.

MY HUSBAND'S LIES by Caroline England is not a fast-paced thriller but more of a slow unfolding where this group of friends lives comes apart piece by piece in ways that will shock and astound you. Definitely well worth reading!!

Nick and Lisa's wedding day should be a joyous occasion for all but especially for Nick's childhood friends - 'The A Team'. Things don't quite go as expected however, when a guest appears to threaten to jump off a window ledge. The group of friends try to move on from the incident and refer to it as 'the blip' but it gradually transpires that there are deep secrets in each of their lives which will test the bonds of their friendship to its very limits. Chapters follow the friends - and Will's wife, Penny - in turn, which means each of their stories are intimately told. Newlyweds Nick and Lisa may be able to put that blip behind them but a throwaway comment from an old family friend engenders an obsessive search for the truth which threatens to drive the couple apart before their married life truly begins. Jen and Ian have been married for years and together with their three daughters tackle the ups and downs of family life as a team but are they both as committed as it seems? Meanwhile Dan and Geri are excitedly looking forward to the birth of their baby but an unexpected offer leads to emotional turmoil and difficult choices to make. Will and Penny make a striking couple but they are both keeping secrets from one another and are arguably the catalyst for the events which have a shattering effect on their marriage and the relationships between the friends.
I have to admit that I took a little while to remember which character was which but I was enjoying Caroline England's writing and so trusted her to make everything clear, which she did soon enough and the strong characterisation within the novel was a real highlight for me. My Husband's Lies actually reminded me of a soap opera at the top of its game - the excellent character development meant I became invested in these people's lives and the compelling drama ensured I kept turning the pages desperate to find out what would happen next. And just as any soap opera has its cliffhanger moments at the end of episodes, so My Husband's Lies has some stunning surprises in store for readers. All the ingredients of a gripping drama are here - births, deaths and marriages, illicit affairs, long-hidden secrets, shocking reveals and emotional and moral dilemmas that will have readers wondering just what they would do under the same circumstances. This A Team's plan most certainly does not come together and by the end none of them will be quite the same again as they learn life-changing truths about themselves and one another.
The various narrative threads of My Husband's Lies are intricately woven with an excellent balance of light and shade between the poignant scenes and the darker, more disturbing incidents. The characters aren't always easy to like, they are complicated and flawed human beings who make terrible decisions which have a devastating impact on others but I couldn't help but want things to work out for them. I really don't want to spoil any surprises as this is such a fun book to read with its twists and turns and it would be a shame to give anything away. What I can say however, is that though there are many 'duff duff' moments, the best is saved to last - the conclusion is jaw dropping and a fabulous way to end the novel. This is the first book I have read by Caroline England but with writing this engrossing, it definitely won't be the last!

Wow! This book is SO good. It's my first Caroline England book but I did buy a copy of her debut, Beneath the Skin, a little while ago; I just haven't had the chance to read it yet. I will be remedying that shortly if My Husband's Lies is anything to go by. One thing I would say before reading it is to write down the names of the characters as the four couples are introduced in quick succession so it would be easy to forget who was who.

There is a 'blip' on Nick and Lisa's wedding day in the form of one of their guests balanced precariously on a window ledge. I felt like I was in a cartoon as my eyes popped out of my head - what a cracking start. As we find out more about this group of friends, we can perhaps make sense of the window ledge scene but there is more to this story than first meets the eye.

Dan, Will, Nick and Jen are friends from school who have stuck together through the years as part of the renowned A Team. Boy, do they have some secrets between them and we get to examine their lives through a microscope thanks to the fantastic story created by Caroline England. Jen was always the honorary boy of the group but as they grew up and each of the boys fell in love with her, one of them captured her heart. That's all over now that Jen is happily married, isn't it? Dan is about to become a father but he feels an attraction that he can't resist and it isn't his partner, Geri, who is causing his heart to race. After a throw away comment at his wedding, Nick uncovers a family secret that could become an obsession and destroy his marriage to Lisa before it even begins. Will, in my opinion, is the linchpin of the group but a job offer could see him jetting off to the Caribbean and fracturing the A-Team as we know and love it...or is there a threat to the group from another source? This is the point where you would hear the dramatic drum beats of the Eastenders theme tune.

My Husband's Lies is a soap opera in a book. At first I thought it was like Friends but then it became apparent that so much drama likened it to Cold Feet with the almost 'who shot JR' tension of Dallas. I was surprisingly emotional towards the end as I had come to think of the group as my own friends and I was quite tearful at the thought of the group being split by the Atlantic Ocean. Then BOOM! Caroline England played her ace and I gasped out loud and sat open mouthed as I read the final scenes. If this had been a play, I would have stood and applauded whilst exclaiming 'bravo'!

Dark, gripping and utterly, utterly compelling you will struggle to tear your eyes away from the pages of My Husband's Lies. With a few husbands to choose from, which one is lying? Or is it all of them? An absolutely brilliant book; I was captivated from first page to last.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

My Husband's Lies is the story of seemingly 'normal' people on the outside, but scratch below the surface and we have some problem relationships, flakey marriages and unhinged individuals.

The book's opening chapters introduce each of the 'cast' at Nick and Lisa's wedding. There are quite a lot of characters introduced at once and you do have to remember them as couples as well as individuals, so attention is required from the beginning.

Caroline England has a lovely writing style and has woven interesting and topical plots for each of her characters. Very quickly this becomes a book which is difficult to put down as the ends of several chapters have cliff hangers. Many issues are explored – adultery, deceit, sexuality and, of course, the husband's lies – but seeing both sides of the story seems to help negate blame, probably because the characters are so likeable.

From the start, when a guest at the wedding is about to jump from a hotel window, there is a feeling of doom, 'this can't possibly end well' throughout the book but I certainly didn't expect the explosive and shocking ending served to us. On finishing I felt bereft, I needed to know more, but 'more' doesn't matter in the context of this whopping finale.

A wedding, a baby, an affair, family scandals – everyone is holding a secret, how much do you really know about your friends?

I think the title and the blurb of My Husband’s Lies gives you different, yet false expectations of what the book is going to be from the outset. The title suggests a more intimate story with a shorter list of characters. The blurb implies that all of the character’s secrets link into the reason one of the wedding guests tries to jump out of a window, whereas this is actually unrelated to most of the storylines. This clash of expectations compared to the actual plot itself doesn’t give you a good impression of the book from the beginning.

My Husband’s Lies is a story of lies, betrayal and secrets on all sides, not just from the husbands and as such it is a bit of a frustrating read – the characters seem quite selfish and vacuous with little redeeming qualities. My main problem with the book was the sheer amount of main characters and their partners and full family tree you were expected to memorise to get through it. This is not helped by the fact that the narrator perspectives change every chapter so you don’t really get a good introduction to each one to make them memorable. With the exception of Penny, who is the most memorable character, they are all written in the same way as well which makes it very hard to keep track of them.

The book is very long and it feels like it drags in a lot of places, I found myself trying to power through it just to get it finished. There is far too many pages vs how much plot is actually developed; a lot of it feels like set up but most of the characters story lines don’t really have a definitive or satisfying ending to justify this. The ending also went straight for the shock factor and was very out of keeping with the rest of the book – it seemed just to be thrown in and left a lot of unanswered questions.

Overall I didn’t really enjoy My Husband’s Lies; its overabundance of main characters left it very hard to empathise with any of them and it was far too long for its plot. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4☆ Full of Secrets, Lies and Deceit!

My Husband's Lies is a book about secrets, betrayal, friendship, lies, relationships and affairs.

I had mixed feelings when I was reading My Husband's Lies.
Firstly the amount of characters that was introduced at the start was slightly overwhelming.
I have to admit it got me very confused and I had to keep skipping back to try to get my head round who was who.

There are several main characters.
The main ones are 'The A Team' ... best friends since school.... Dan, Nick, Jen and Will.
There partners Geri, Lisa, Ian, Penny and Will's brother Seb.

Ok so each of the couple's have their issues.
They are all so desperately flawed.
To be honest there wasn't one character I particularly liked or related to as most of them was self conceited and only out for themselves.
But that was the point I wasn't meant to like them.
Each character had their own agenda.
However Caroline did create characters that knew just how to manipulate and taunt perfectly. Keeping the reader hooked into the drama.
It was like watching a soap opera.

So much so the opening scene we see Wills wife Penny attempting to jump off a window ledge at Nick and Lisa's wedding..... But Why you ask?.... you will need to read it to find out.

For me the title didn't really fit with the story as it wasn't one husband that was lying. They all was lying. From Affairs, sexuality confusion, mental health the whole book was based on lies and deceit.

What I loved about this book was how the best friends and their partners/ families related to each other.
How their relationships weaved together. From over protective parent's, stroppy teenager/ kids, A Mum to Be, a protective brother, to parent's that favoured one child over another it was interesting to see how they coped.
How they went about there day to day life not truly knowing what was going on behind the scenes.

Do you truly ever really know your best friends?
Or what happens behind closed doors?
How long can a secret stay buried before it comes crashing down?
These are all the questions Caroline had me thinking about whilst reading My Husband's Lies.

Each chapter is told by one of the four members of the 'A Team ' including Penny's liaisons with her therapist. I enjoyed this because each of the stories told weaved perfectly together.

Despite the fact there was a lot of characters. I did really enjoy reading My Husband's Lies.
Caroline created an engrossing storyline with a cast of multi-layered, Flawed yet challenging characters, that weaved deceit, secrets and lies into the mix perfectly.

If you enjoy Dramas with a thriller feel, with a fairly large cast of characters, then you will really enjoy My Husband's Lies.

After reading the synopsis, I couldn't help but pick up the book..

But as the learned have said, do not judge a book by its cover, I say do not judge a story by its blurb. Thus book took me 15 days to finish. It was shocking to me, I have read only 1 book this month. Gawd! This news was far worse than the story of the novel.

There were a lot of characters, a-lot, so keeping track of them was seriously confusing in the beginning. Then came the secrets, so convoluted are they that I got confused about who, what, and why. And then there were the affairs, some ongoing since many years with the characters being married to others, and there was a budding discovery of a secret leading to affair while having a pregnant girlfriend, and there are parents who are actually the grandparents, and some past secrets, some children of those secrets. Have I confused you enough? Good! Now you know what I went through for 15 days!!

I didn't enjoy the book as I was too busy trying to keep track of all the characters and their secrets and unbelievable reveals. Author Caroline England's concept was good, shocking us with the dark side of humans, but the delivery failed with just too many characters, secrets, yet not enough of a plot or a story.

Twisted and turned were the humans in the story, yet called themselves the best of friends while cheating each other. My husband's lies became everybody lies!!! Yet we don't enjoy!! I didn't.. Duhh 15 days 1 book!!

I liked this book, but there were so many characters that I actually had to make a little cheat sheet of who was married to who and who was seeing who. I felt like I could relate to all the characters.
