This was a really useful book. It is the first book I have read relating to money and money issues that did not make me bored out of my skull. It is a very well written and easy to understand book. There is some money related jargon, but even that was still easier to understand than regular money books. Some of the information, especially regarding tax forms, retirement and saving accounts is more tailored to American audiences, but this book still contains a lot of useful information no matter where you may be living. There are also many useful work sheets, and there are links to the author's website where they can be downloaded.

The most fun, engaging book about personal finance and debt reduction that I've read to date.

Cool with a friendly, potty-mouthed, butt-kicking personal finance bud in your back pocket? Then Get Money is the book for you. Wong takes a subject that many of us cringe over (controlling your own money) and turns it into a gamified how-to. There aren't any chapters in this book, but rather "levels to beat'. Plus, the info has all been field tested by Wong and her legions of readers, all interspersed with notes from the 'experts'.

Admittedly, I have a bit of a girl crush on Wong - her style of writing, the tone with which she teaches, that she used her own experiences and then sought out experts to validate and recommend. And with a (normally) dry subject such as personal finance? I'm in.

One note: for whatever reason, I thought this book was more woo-woo and less practical advice when I started reading it. It's clear from the start though - this isn't a law of attraction or 'raise your vibe' kind of book.

GET MONEY by Kristin Wong is subtitled "Live the Life You Want,Not Just the Life You Can Afford." Yet, the focus seems to be on getting money and not on living a meaningful life. To me, this book had a rather juvenile tone throughout; the foreword begins: "I've never really written a foreword; I'm not really sure what to so. Uh oh. I'm in trouble." Who has time for that? OK, I know the foreword wasn't written by Kristin Wong, but she starts an early section by writing about what she calls "the Oh Shit Cycle." Yes, really. Actually, I think that this book must be geared to young people who do not have a strong savings ethic and who need help with self-restraint. Wong writes about gamification and offers challenges to her readers both within the book and online. If that appeals to you and applies to your personal financial situation – have a look at the book; otherwise, time is money and spend your efforts elsewhere. 2.5 stars
