Petra is a lovely book that can be used in many circumstances. From a read-aloud for young children to a conversational starter for older readers, many messages can be gleaned from the cheerful text and illustrations. Young children may find a story about imagination and positivity, while older children may find a message of acceptance and identity.
Cute illustrations accompany a cute story about a rock who thinks she is a mountain.
It’s all in how you look at things. Petra thinks she is an immovable, majestic mountain, until a dog fetches her for his owner. She then sails through the air and into a bird’s nest. Petra is now an egg. What will she become? She is unceremoniously tossed into the pond by the mama bird where she becomes an island. A child scoops “Petra the island” out of the pond and paints her until she resembles an elephant. Petra adapts and responds to each new situation with grace. She sees the potential in each setting. Marianna Coppo uses tempera, pastels and digital collage to bring her adorable character to life.
'Petra' by Marianna Coppo is a book filled with imagination and a main character that is a rock. In spite of this, the character has appeal.
When we meet Petra, she is a mighty, immovable mountain. Nothing can shake her. Or can it?
Things are not what they seem, and Petra has to learn that life can change things up on you. Petra imagines herself as an egg and an island. With her imagination and good attitude, she really won't be shaken.
Petra is a good lesson for anyone experiencing change. What you thought could be, suddenly isn't, so you adapt. The illustrations are pretty cute too. I liked Petra's facial expressions, and I really loved the amount of imagination that this book had.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
This book explores perspective, flexibility, and optimism all through a story about a rock looking to find its place in the world.
Who knew a book about a rock could be so entertaining? Follow Petra on their journey, as they are carried, thrown, painted, and tossed to the ground. A great story about being positive through all circumstances.
The humorous adventures of an irresistible little rock who finds herself in constantly changing circumstances, Petra is a picture book that celebrates the power of perspective and believing in yourself.
Adorable picture book, so funny and sweet at the same time. How we might say a "simple" rock can be happy adapting herself to any situation she encounters. A story which tells you about being optimistic, self-confident, and cheerful in any situation in life.
The adorable illustrations in Petra caught my attention and not knowing anything else about it I HAD to read it. My two young readers (6 & 4) were both swooning over each illustration as we made our way through the book. We all enjoyed the unexpected adventures in the story, but we loved the illustrations even more,
Petra is optimistic. Though she introduces herself as a mighty mountain, we soon discover that she is slightly smaller than she claims. After a series of mishaps that cause her to re-formulate her identity, she finally settles in a place. Continually cheerful, Petra always decides to roll with what life brings her way. Good, simple illustrations and a cute story.
Cute picture book. I loved Petra's confidence, imagination and creativity. Great illustrations.
Petra is a picture book by Marianna Coppo which is currently scheduled for release on February 6 2018. Petra is a little rock who believes she is a mighty mountain, until a dog fetches her for its owner, and she is tossed into a bird's nest. A mountain? No, Petra is now an egg! An egg of the world in a world of possibility. Until she's flung into a pond, and becomes an amazing island and, eventually, a little girl's pet rock. What will she be tomorrow? Who knows? But she's a rock, and this is how she rolls!
Petra is a cute picturebook about a rock with grand ideas about herself. She thinks highly of herself, and even when she is proven wrong by circumstance she continues to adjust and adapt, making the best of every situation. This is a great reminder for kids and adults alike, that even if thing do not go the way you want or your self perception changes there is still good and possibilities ahead. I loved Petra's good nature, and thought the illustrations were fun and charming. I enjoyed the picturebook greatly, and think it will be a favorite for many.
I was suckered in by Petra's adorable cover art and humorous premise. Honestly, it delivered on everything it promised.
Petra is a mountain, or an egg, or an island…in fact she is a chameleon. Ever changing, ever shifting and going with the flow of life. Really she is a pebble, a strong, confident pebble that sends positive vibes all over the place. Petra is a cute, uplifting, and positive story about accepting change and having a positive outlook on life. Simple text with fun little alliterations thrown in, Petra is perfect for the preschool to grade one age group. To me, Petra is a great STEAM book. Taking an everyday, ordinary object and reimagining what it could be. Can you change a rock into an elephant? Can you change a block of wood into a boat? How can you change any piece of material?
Art: Simple white with not a lot of stuff in the background which (I think) is meant for reader to focus on Petra
Story: It was okay. It went by fast I felt. Petra and the art is cute.
I rarely read picture books and, more so, request them for review but Petra looked too cute to pass on. I requested a digital copy from NetGalley and was very happy to be approved for it.
I loved Petra! It is an adorable narrative about a little rock that dreams of being many different things. The art looks like it is done with watercolours and has a very simple and clean design. It made me want to a have a sticker with Petra, the rock. It is short but, nevertheless, meaningful in its message: you can be anything or anyone you want if you dream of it! I thought it was well executed. If I had any kids of the appropriate age, I would definitely be buying a copy of the book.
My only complain = the book is too short! Would love to read more about Petra’s adventures and learn what else she can be!
Definitely recommend.
Funny little story of a rock who has a confident and imaginative opinion of himself and all the possibilities of what he/she can be.
This was a very cute picture book, highlighting imagination and creativity.
Mostly charming illustrations paired with great phrasing and a strong line of thinking.
This is a cute story about Petra, a rock with an incredible imagination. The illustrations definitely make the story, as there is very little text. There is a wonderful message, that what appears to be small or insignificant can go on to do incredible things.
