Brilliant addition to the series. A complex case for Robyn and the team and the excellent sub plot make for a rollercoaster ride. Can’t wait for the next one

Carol Wyer does it again with a stunning atmospheric thriller. A young boy finds a body while looking for the Gruffalo, what a fabulous start to a book. I love the way she entwined the past with the present, although I didn't guess which characters were the children in the past. Twisty, treacherous plotting; I didn't guess who the murderer was. Highly recommended! I look forward to more of this series.

This is book 4 in the DI Robyn Carter mystery series and concerns a murder in a forest where children are taking part in a Gruffalo trail. The opening is excellent when a 5 year old boy discovers the body of Henry whilst looking for the Gruffalo with his Grandmother and older brother. This is extremely well described and sucks the reader into the book really quickly.
As well as investigating the murder Robyn is plagued by a feeling she is being watched and is also curious about a photo of her dead husband Davies she has been sent. Is he still alive and not murdered in his undercover intelligence work as she has been told by his boss ? She enlists her cousin Ross to find out.
There are also flashbacks to an earlier time in the killer’s life when child abuse and extreme hardship occur. However, the author’s skill ensures nothing is revealed about the perpetrator in these sections which would enable the reader to guess who he is.
I enjoyed reading this book over the course of a weekend and it left me eagerly awaiting the next instalment in Robyn’s career. She is a great character and the author has an excellent way of describing her hopes and fears, her feelings of loss regarding Davies as well as her diligent investigation of the murders. She is relentless in her pursuit of the killer and takes every setback personally.
Although this is part of a series it could be read as a stand-alone. However I would suggest the earlier books are read as they are excellent thrillers.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc.

This is the fourth book in the Robyn Carter series. I haven't read the others, but now  I feel I should. Robyn gets a photo of her ex-husband who is supposed to be dead, at the same time gets called for a murder case. A man dies near a park, but there are no leads on the murder. This is followed by two other murders, and Robyn feels they are related.

Interesped with Robyn's current investigation, we also read about the killer 's past in third person. The boy and his sister who were physically and sexually abused. I felt bad for them, Noone deserves such a childhood

Will Robyn find the killer before the next kill?

Is Robyn' s husband alive?

Read to find out

I love serial killer cases, as i love to catch the killer first. I couldn't guess the killer before Robyn did. I should read the rest of Robyn's series. Even though this is part of the series it can be read as a Standalone. The suspense will keep you at the edge of your seats

Recommended for suspense thriller readers

The Silent Children is the fourth book in the D. I Robyn Carter series. I have loved the rest of the series so I was looking forward to reading this.
The story starts with Aiden Moore and his brother Kyle are walking along he Gruffalo spotting trail on Cannock Chase, with his Grandma Hannah, Aiden takes a turn until he comes to a clearing where a car is parked and a man’s body is found Henry Gregson. He has been shot in the neck. When Robyn informs his wife of his death she said she didn’t understand as he said he was working in the Minimart that day. She also heard that he told people that his sister was a drug addict and his mother was in a care home when really, his sister was the main carer for his mother. Why was he telling these lies? Then a few days later the body of Tessa Hall has been found at the bottom of the stairs and something that is said between her stepdaughter and D.I Robyn Carter that she realises that the two murders are linked in some way.
When a third body turns up of a man dying on a golf course but this time of natural causes. They think he is penniless but they discover that there was a million pounds in his account. Robyn Carter is set out to investigate these pattern of events. It seems it’s all linked to a lottery syndicate.
I really enjoyed the other books in this series and this one also doesn’t disappoint. It gripped me from start to finish. The only query of this story that was nagging at me was, how did they know that the stolen ticket would produce a winning ticket? I also enjoyed the cliff-hanger at the end regarding Davies. I can’t wait what happens for that part of the story in the next book.
Thank you Bookouture, Netgalley and Carol Wyer for an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Oh my god what a brilliant book you have to read it. It is so amazing very emotional and very addictive.
This book grabs you from the first page right till the last page with so many twists and turns you do not know what is coming next.

The book starts with two brothers Kyle and Aiden. Kyle is the older brother who suffers from mild autism are on a gruffalo hunt with their Nan, he runs off with Aiden to find the Gruffalo. Kyle runs and hides from Aiden who is scared to be in the woods on his own and he loses sight of his nan. But he does see a red car like his mums who he thinks has come to pick them up, so he runs over to it and that's when he finds the dead body.

DI Robyn and her team have to try and solve the murder of Henry and four members of the quiz team

As the book goes on the reason henry and the others are was killed becomes clear with the whole book being about money fear and greed and what lengths brother and sister will go to protect each other through thick and thin.

DI Robyn and her team struggle to solve the murder because at first there seems no reason why Henry was killed. But when four other people are killed DI Robyn and her team have to find out the link that holds everything together. if you think that one murder would be enough they end having to solve five murders all linked to the first murder of Henry and the quiz team.

We follow DI Robyn through the twists and turns of a detective trying to solve the murders and work out how it all comes together.

There are many mixed emotions throughout this book and you find out what happens when money and greed take over and what Liam and Ella will do to get the lottery win

This book makes you think about so many things from brother and sister, money, and greed

It leaves you thinking long after you have finished the book. If I could give it more then 5 stars I would you have to read it.

he Silent Children by Carol Wyer is the fourth in a series featuring DI Robyn Carter. I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but The Silent Children functions perfectly well as a stand-alone, even though there is an arc carried over from previous books.

Another book interspersed with sections on a back story, The Silent Children keeps the narrative bouncing between past and present.

Overall, I wasn't that impressed with this one, but Wyer has a number of fans who really loved the book. I never wanted to abandon it, but when I finished, the only character who truly engaged me was Robyn's cousin Ross, and he had a minimal role.

Very well written with a few more characters in this one who are completely different so it all blends well together. So many murders and a lot going on so this keeps you on your toes as you are reading it. I love this series of books and will be looking out for the next one.

I do love Carol Wyer’s dark side!
It’s a cleverly told story, very intriguing.
Quite complex with lots of characters, but told in a way that you don’t forget things as you go along.
There are two stories being told. One “now” and one “then”. Trying to work out who the people involved in the “then” storyline really kept me guessing.
It was nice to see her cousin Ross again. He is a private investigator, and an ex-copper. She calls on him to help her out sometimes on the side. Her late husband’s daughter was featured again and it was nice to see her growing up and interacting with Robyn. I was hoping it started from the cliffhanger in book three but it didn’t. I guess that’s for another book in the future.
Some of the areas were familiar to me, being from Staffordshire, and I liked that aspect.
Well-paced and great writing. A pleasure to read and I had to read just one more chapter, and another one….
I look forward to the next one!
Thanks to Carol Wyer, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the copy in return for an honest review.

WoW.....Double WoW..........What a book! 4th book in the Detective Robyn Carter Series and this series is getting better and better. I am loving it. Throughout the book Detective Robyn Carter is determined to find out who are the killer/s and never gives up. Even though she has things going on in her life outside work.
This book is just brilliant and looking forward to the next book......But, who is the person watching Detective Robyn Carter's House??

Well Done Carol Wyer for another 5 big fat star book.

Thank-you to Netgalley and the fantastic Bookoutre for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

The Silent Children by Carol Wyer is the fourth DI Robyn Carter book in the series. The third book left us on a bit of a cliffhanger so I was eager to read the latest instalment.

This book goes between past and present with quite a significant body count. The old favourite characters have returned as they’re on the hunt for a potential serial killer. It is well written, fast paced and whilst it kept me hooked it wasn’t my favourite book in the series. Having said that I am looking forward to reading book five.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

This was a puzzler, with lots of interconnected characters and timelines and such. And it was a pretty good read. I felt a bit misled by the marketing copy, because it's not really a serial killer book as we usually think of one, and it's not a keep-you-up-at-night because it's so disturbing book. I think this is probably a good murder mystery, but I went into expecting something much creepier, so I was disappointed in that regard.

I like the author, but I didn’t have much love for this one.

It’s not a serial killer novel (it really isn’t). The tons and tons of flashbacks have nothing to do with anything. And the reason behind everything is so…banal.

It was especially disappointing because I was into the book. I really wanted a good sociopathic or psychopathic reason to things. I wanted a charming or brutal or anything really serial killer with a personality. I wanted suspense and dread and just plain creepiness.

As a procedural, it works. I like our main character and enjoyed the investigation and interviews. But the killings and the reasons behind them? A disappointment.

I’ll read the author again. I may just forget this one, though.

I received an ARC from NetGalley to read and review. The below is my honest, unbiased opinion. Thank you, Carol Wyer, the publisher, and NetGalley, for allowing me to review.

Years later, a man is found shot dead in a local park. On his phone is a draft text: I can’t keep this secret any longer. The recipient is unnamed.

Detective Robyn Carter knows this secret is the key to the case, but his friends and family don’t offer any clues, and all her team have to go on is a size-ten footprint.

Then a woman is found in a pool of blood at the bottom of her staircase, and a seemingly insignificant detail in her stepdaughter’s statement makes Robyn wonder: are the two bodies are connected, and has the killer only just begun?

When another body confirms Robyn’s worst fears, she realises she’s in a race against time to stop the killer before they strike again. But just as she thinks she’s closing in, one of her own team goes missing.

Buried in the past is a terrible injustice. Can Robyn uncover the truth before another life is lost?

THE SILENT CHILDREN is the first book in the DI Robyn Carter series, but it's my first from this author. However, that didn't prevent me from enjoying the book. In fact, I enjoyed it quite a bit and am excited to read the first three. However, I would recommend reading them in order, because books are usually much better when read in the order they author wrote them.

With that being said, this was a fast-paced, thrilling read. I was on the edge of my seat while DI Carter tries to prevent more killings. I really enjoyed the little clues left behind, too. Even so, I didn't see the ending coming. I highly recommend this one!

Thanks a million Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Another fantastic read from Carol Wyer!! It had me hooked from the start. It ended on another cliff hanger which has me desperate for the next one. A definite must read.

I liked this book but not as much as the first ones. The plot for this one was a bit shaky, for me anyway. I still loved Robyn's determination and I love her team. Anna is a favourite character and is shaping up to be every bit as determined as Robyn.
I must say, I had no idea who the killer was and more importantly, I had no idea why these people were being killed. I was almost as frustrated as Robyn, who is investigating these murders. It's not until about halfway through the book that we get glimpse at the motive. By the end, I had a pretty good idea of who had done it but the why of it was kind of vague...
I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I hope Robyn gets some answers about her husband Davies. I really hope there's more of her cousin Ross in the next book also. I really like the relationship between the two cousins...

This series gets better and better. The Robyn Carter books by Carol Wyer are well-written, fast-paced and well-plotted. Carter herself is an interesting character who has an intriguing back story. The other members of her team are well drawn and don't have too much baggage, which is unusual and refreshing in crime fiction. When Henry is found shot dead on Cannock Chase, Robyn is presented with a real conundrum. The links from him to others in his coterie are fascinating and the dénouement is very good.

After reading the others in the series, I’ve been waiting to see if the series gets diluted, but it’s as thick and palatable as ever, in fact, it’s getting stronger.
I’m so into this series I don’t want it to end.

By all accounts there is another due out some time in March 2018 (I think) so mark your calendar for that exciting release.

I’ve learnt so much more about what kind of woman Detective Robyn Carter is, not only in her job.

I loved how the questioning of a child to bring out any informative information sometimes in a fun way to get to know what the child may or may not know. Very well done.

There’s a secret that needs to be broken, this may hold the key to open the door to the investigation.

Clever plot.
Great story.
Kept me on my toes.

My thanks to Bookoutour via Net Galley for my copy

The Silent Children

Carol Wyer is absolutely amazing and quickly becoming one of my favourite crime authors.
I've just finished the Silent Children and I now want more more more. I don't know how she does it but she makes me feel for the baddie too. I'm gutted I read this too fast as I wanted to savour every word.
We are quickly thrown back into the world of D I Robyn Carter as she investigates the death of a man found near the Gruffalo trail. Straight away the tension builds as a young boy finds the body and Robyn has to find and put together the pieces of the puzzle.
I love the mix of Robyn's work life and private life as the investigations are always so interesting and her private life is filled with loneliness and now she has this potentially life changing mystery to resolve with the help of her cousin Ross the private investigator who loves a bit of cake.
The characters are all well rounded and interesting and I simply can't wait to read the next instalment of this brilliant series. Well done Carol you clever lady, thanks to Bookouture for the ARC which I've reviewed voluntarily.
