Part romantic love story about Catherine who is marrying Dominic and part mystery about what happened to Rachel. Is she really dead as there are hints and clues that she is not.
Ot a serious murder mystery, just a gentle missing presumed dead story but with lots of intrigue and it was enjoyable if a little obvious.
Thank you for the opportunities to read this book. I have attempted it on a number of occasions but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get into it.
Rachel is dead and she is not coming back...or is she? Catherine is excitedly preparing for her wedding to Dominic and she has never been happier or more excited in her life. But, that happiness is threatened when she receives a very familiar snow globe with a grisly addition from an anonymous sender. Catherine's older sister, Rachel, died while on a skiing holiday as a child. But, she was vicious and disturbed, making Catherine's life miserable. Catherine has spent many years trying to forget her dead sister's cruel tricks. Now, someone has sent her Rachel's snow globe, and it is only the first in a series of ominous messages. Catherine is struggling to keep her focus on Dominic, but someone seems intent on torturing her. She can't figure out who would do such a thing or why they're choosing now, of all times. She needs to figure out the answer to these questions, as well as the one that holds her greatest fear: is Rachel still alive?
Wow! This was an emotional roller coaster ride of a mystery! It captured my attention from the first page and held it all the way through. I enjoyed every detail, every twist and turn that Jane Holland took us through in this suspenseful story. All of the characters were well written, even the ones that I didn't actually like. I had never read anything by this author before but this one is a definite must read and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.
Thank you, Netgalley for providing me a copy of this novel, in exchange for an honest review.
I was completely gripped by this story and thought was impressed with the writing quality. I was entertained throughout the story and would not hesitate to recommend this book.
I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I don't have the time to read this book anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Thrilling story, with a fabulous plot!! Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre. Kept me turning the pages well into the night.
What a fantastic read! I’d guessed a few of the twists (Rachel being Cat’s alterego and her husband playing mind games) quite early on, but there were so many twists and turns throughout I couldn’t put this book down. I love how the author made me have such love/hate relationships with each one of the characters too, this was an emotional rollercoaster right the way through.
Will definitely recommend!
More of a 3 1/2 Stars for me...
Catherine is all set to marry Dominic when she receives a disturbing package in the mail. It's a snow globe that used to belong to her sister, Rachel who died on a family ski trip in Switzerland. Then other disturbing things begin to happen. Who is behind all this? What is really going on?
I like Jane Holland's writing a lot. There's a nice, easy flow to her words. I read her book, "Lock the door" and absolutely loved it. While I enjoyed this one something seemed to be missing for me. Maybe it was some of the characters. I really did not like Catherine's parents or Dominic. I also did not like the way some things were handled in the story...(I did not think it would happen like that in real life.) I sort of guessed about half way through what was really going on. I must say though once I guessed the book just took off more dramatically. It certainly had some creepy/suspenseful moments. I had to keep reading to find out how it would all end...and boy was it ever a "twisted" ending!
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer Publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this Advanced Reader Edition.
Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this book.
From the beginning of the book I didn't know if I were coming or going. Was Catherine losing her mind, or is there really someone harassing her? What's the secret behind her sister's death?
From the beginning of the book, to the end, I was hooked and just had to see how it ended, and I honestly did not expect the ending! Well done, highly recommended.
An oddly satisfying read. At times I was like "WHAT THE HELL AM I'M READING?" but then I would get sucked right back into and totally intrigued to the point that I fell asleep with this book on my chest. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. Once you get over the twists and weird turns this author decided to go you really start to enjoy the this novel as a whole.
Wow I really enjoyed this book. I did sort of guess the ending but it in no way spoilt it for me. I love these psychological type thrillers that focus on people's behaviour. A recommended read.
Catherine remembers a ski vacation in Switzerland where her older sister Rachel was killed. She also remembers how cruel her sister had been and all the trouble she had caused while the two were growing up. Now Catherine is engaged to Dominic and is excited about planning her wedding. However, things aren’t going as they should, and someone is sending Catherine mementos from her past that make her suspicious that her malevolent sister Rachel may still be alive, and that Rachel is set on ruining Catherine’s wedding. Catherine comes home to find her beautiful wedding dress shredded and covered in blood; she’s broken-hearted and the police aren’t particularly helpful in finding the culprit.
Jane Holland’s second novel, Forget Her Name by award-winning novelist Jane Holland, begins with a suspenseful note and the suspense builds throughout the entire novel. There are twists and turns as in any good suspense/thriller, and the end is totally unexpected.
As the novel progresses, readers will be comfortable wondering whether Rachel is still alive, and all things point to that. There are however, things that don’t quite add up. The writing is excellent – Holland knows how to tell a story – and readers will find the book difficult to put down. Things are not as they appear, and readers will be fooled until the very end. The characters are believable, and seem real. All told, this is a novel that is recommended for anyone who likes something different and anyone who likes interesting twists at the end of a good suspense novel.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This was a really enjoyable thriller.
I loved that the author took my on a journey with the mystery, I figured out every twist in the mystery right when I was supposed to and was really taken on a ride with the story.
I also really enjoyed that the author included a lot of current issues, such as the issues with the NHS and the increasing need for foodbanks.
I did find it hard to relate to the story as I could not relate to any of the responses the characters had to any of the situations they were placed in.
Definitely a thriller worth checking out.
If you can deal with the utterly twisted, this is a great choice. When I first picked up on patterns and figured it out, it only got more involved, more enigmatic, until the explosion at the finale. This was a fantastic read.
This was a good psychological thriller. Catherine is getting married, but someone is sending her creepy reminders of her dead sister Rachel. Her parents dismiss her concerns, as does her fiance Dominic. The pace goes nicely and the creepiness increases as time goes by. There seems to be a trend in British thrillers of this kind where the main character let's her family or friends influence her too much to dismiss the crazy events around them. And the main character never verbally addresses these people until the end. I did guess correctly the story with Rachel, so that was no surprise for me. What was a shock came at the very end of the book. The epilogue was great, though it leads to a strange future for these characters.
Wow!
The book begins with Catherine and Dominic about to be married. Then one day at the food bank where she volunteers a suspicious package arrives for Catherine with no forwarding address. Inside is a snow globe but this isn't just any snow globe. It's her dead sister Rachel's snow globe from childhood. Within the snow globe she see's an eyeball staring back at her. How and why would someone send this to her? Visibly shaken she hides it from Dominic. She doesn't want to explain to him that her sister was a violent psychopath in case he should get cold feet from marrying her. Then more and more sinister things keep happening and it becomes impossible to keep her secrets hidden any longer.
I was reading this book and enjoying myself thinking this will more than likely be a solid 3 /3.5 stars but then you hit the 70% mark and that's when you realize that you have officially hit CRAZY TOWN and I mean that in the best way possible! Jane Holland really cranks it up at the end and I couldn't flip the damn pages fast enough. While a twist is revealed at the 70% mark that I had already figured out, I promise you, just keep reading. The best twist is yet to come! 4.5 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
forget her name by Jane holland.
with only 3 weeks til she marries dom. Catherine receives a parcel at the food bank where she is a volunteer. then her wedding dress is destroyed. who is doing these horrible things to her? it couldn't be her dead sister who died when she was younger?
a fantastic read. it was shocking in parts. I really felt for Catherine. who could it be? I was very surprised. shocked Even. A shockingly twister of a read. 5*.
This was the first time I have read anything by this author ,the story was a very good page tuner for me ,I coudnt turn pages fast enough ,the story had so many twist and turns I didn't even see coming .I will definitely want to read more books from this author ,I highly recommend this title .
Jane Holland’s Forget Her Name is an entertaining read with some shocking plot twists that’ll keep you hooked until the very end. Although the characters are underdeveloped, and aspects of plot and theme could have been better handled, this book is still a thrilling read.
Our protagonist Catherine is looking forward to her wedding to Dominic when she receives an anonymous package containing a snow globe with an eyeball in it. The snow globe belonged to Rachel, her older sister who died in Switzerland when Catherine was a child. Rachel was evil, and Catherine is glad she’s dead. Someone soon starts terrorizing Catherine. It seems that only one person could be responsible: Rachel. However, no one believes that Catherine is being tormented and they think that she’s doing it to herself or imagining things. Her parents refuse to talk about Rachel. Did Rachel really die? What are Catherine’s parents hiding? And who is tormenting Catherine?
Catherine is a good protagonist and you do feel sympathetic towards her. I didn’t particularly like the other characters because they aren’t very interesting or well-written. I would like much more development of Catherine’s parents and their relationship with her because their behaviour did not make sense.
Although I figured out the big plot twist early on, there are still a few more that surprised me. I do like how all the various plot points eventually come together. But, I didn’t like the final big plot twist which is too disturbing for my taste and which does a disservice to Catherine’s character. I really wish Holland had gone another route. However, the twist left me stunned and I can’t believe the book went there.
The book is dark and unsettling which really amps up the suspenseful atmosphere. However, I wish Holland had spent time dealing with the serious themes of family, sexuality and mental health that are such a big part of this book. There are many big issues that are not resolved or adequately confronted and more development would have greatly enhanced the plot and characters.
Forget Her Name is a quick and suspenseful read. Although I would like more developed characters and a greater focus on certain aspects of theme and plot, I did enjoy this novel. It’s well-paced and there’s never a boring moment. I would reread this novel and I look forward to reading more of Jane Holland’s work.
Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review.
A really gripping read from start to end. I couldn't put this one down. So many scenarios and twists. I thought I had it figured out but alas. Very enjoyable mystery thriller and well written.
