Sadly this book just didn’t grab as much as I hoped it would. I put it down and picked it up multiple times but I just couldn’t connect with it. Super bummed.

I tried reading this book but sadly I didn't make it very far while reading this book. I think that the different point of views made it a bit difficult to understand . I usually love this author's books and I hoped that this one would work out for me.

Beautiful Broken Hearts has all the feels! It has betrayal, heartbreak, romance, and drama, drama, drama! After a devastating fall down a flight of stairs, Peyton has not only lost her trust in her boyfriend, but may even lose her soccer scholarship to UNC. Her mother thinks it's best for her to stay with her Uncle Hawk in the small town of Black Water, Tennessee to heal and avoid the harassing phone calls. But, Peyton is not someone you can pushover and take advantage of. She is determined to get through adjusting to a new school and rehabbing her knee so she can get back to soccer season as soon as possible.

Everything is going according to plan until she meets Owen. A boy who is determined to steal Peyton's heart. But Owen has secrets of his own, and Peyton is not ready to deal with any more heartbreak. I loved the relationship between Peyton and Owen, and the family protectiveness of her twin cousins, Christian and Cameron. They were fun characters that not only drove Peyton crazy but created a comic relief to the seriousness of Peyton's situation.

This is a story that reflects a time in the author's life. Ms. Garcia also dealt with a boyfriend that abused steroids and the effects from it. This is not your everyday high school love story, but also of about being strong enough to get out of an abusive relationship. If you loved the Lovely Reckless (also by Kami Garcia), then you'll love this book! Recommended for 17+

Note: This book has some explicit language and there is one chapter with sexual content.

3.5 This book is a great addition to teen collections in libraries because it addresses a seldom brought up topic in YA literature: domestic violence in dating. Hopefully this story will help people recognize what abuse looks like, and get help if needed..

I loved this one!! The MC was awesome, and I loved the chemistry of these two. Such a great book!! Thank you for the opportunity to read it. I really hope Kami writes more contemporary - it's my favorite!

Final Score - 5+ Mended Hearts Stars!

The story starts off with an incident of domestic violence. No matter how you look at it, a relationship that was once strong and solid is forever altered by this. Appearances can be deceiving and wolves sometimes do hide in sheep's clothing.

Peyton is on the fast track to realizing her dream - being a division 1 athlete at UNC for soccer. Her acceptance letter in hand, she has great friends she wants to share the news with - none so more than her boyfriend. Once considered to be the perfect, ideal boyfriend ... of a late, Reed's entire demeanor has changed. He’s keeping a dangerous secret. Once she finds out, Peyton feels she has no choice but to break up with him. But what happens next is something no one could have foreseen. The end result is that she moves to Tennessee to live with her uncle and cousins. It’s there she meets Owen.

I liked how Peyton handled herself and the events that she was confronted with. She was strong and courageous and stood up for herself and for others. What I really enjoyed was the slow start of her relationship with Owen. They truly were friends first before becoming romantically involved. I admire her also for sticking to her guns and not letting Reed talk his way back into her life, like so many girls do when they break up with their boyfriends.

I hope that other readers will enjoy this story. This story is about healing from wounds - both superficial and physical, new beginnings and new relationships, and also of letting go of things that are out of your control and acceptance. Life can sometimes leave you broken and battered down, but it can also surprise you in the most unexpected beautiful ways. I was really excited to be selected to review this book, my first by this author. While I have most of Kami Garcia’s books (Beautiful Creatures series), this is the first time I've actually read one by her. What an honor to be introduced to her style of writing - sharp, passionate, and thoughtful.

***edited to add in that this book is now on my list of Top 3 Reads of 2018

So much drama! All the Drama!! But like, the best sort of drama you could think of.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was so good and pulled me in so fast. Kami just has this way of writing such exciting books, that delve in so deep and just drag you with them. And this one did all that. I never knew what to expect., and loved every second. And had some very almost sleepless nights until this one was finished haha.

Plus I really enjoyed Peyton and Owen.
I felt so bad for her at the start of the book, and then as everything unfolds I couldn't help but notice how strong and strong willed she was. And appreciate that in a character.

Overall I loved everything about this book, and would suggest if you're wanting something that will hold you captive and provide the best kind of drama you pick this one up 😉

Wow. This story went to some dark places and following the heroines journey to overcome and succeed was so worth the reading! I am familiar with the authors supernatural stories and went into this not expecting the amazing story that unfolded. The character’s long term struggle with the ptsd brought on by “the incident “ and her need to start from nothing and rebuild was engaging. Fans of the author and those new to her will never regret reading this book!

I loved this! Peyton went through so much trouble and pain at the beginning of the book that I couldn't wait for her to get to her happily ever after. My favorite part of this novel was the characters. I really enjoyed Peyton, Cameron, Christian, Hawk, Owen, Grace, and all of the others. It is definitely worth the read!

Kami Garcia is an auto-buy for my high school library. This one did not disappoint. I was glad to have it before my students.

Another YA book that I loved!!! Again, I don’t really do the YA books, but between this book and another YA Book, I’m might be a convert... at least for Kami Garcia’s Books!!!

I really like a book where one of the characters has some sort of injury or malady. So this as perfect! This story had a little bit of everything. There was romance, suspense and sweetness.

Definitely a YA author I will read again!

OMG I loved this book sooo much!

This book will take you on an unforgettable, emotional rollercoaster ride, that you just won't want to get off. From the first page I was hooked and I just couldn't put it down till I'd devoured it all.

With a unique and intriguing storyline, amazingly addictive characters, this story is definitely one to add to your "to read" list or better yet just "one-click" it. I feel a reread coming up very soon lol.

Although this is, on the face of it, a story about high school kids, with football players and mean girl cheerleaders, this is so much more than a light, high school romance.

Stark. Blunt. Completely unexpected.

Peyton & Owen’s story is a touchingly written story of love, loss and grief.

Simply beautiful.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Broken Beautiful Hearts by Kami Garcia is one of the books that I was MOST excited to release in February, and I’m so thrilled to have read finally the book! I read Kami’s The Lovely Reckless when it first released back in 2016, and fell absolutely in love with the story, so I just knew I would love Broken Beautiful Hearts as well. And, I did!

If you don’t already know this about me, I am a HUGE fan of contemporary novels. I seriously can’t get enough of them! And it’s even better when the contemporary is a love story. I love reading those stories the most. Broken Beautiful Hearts fits both of those categories, and it’s definitely one of the best I’ve read in a while. I really enjoyed this book.

Peyton is a star athlete on her high school soccer team, and has a bright future ahead of her. All of that changes after an incident with her boyfriend which left her injured, and no one will believe her about that happened. After receiving a few threats, she goes to stay with her uncle and cousins in another state to recover, and to learn how to move on, with the help of a few new friends.

Without going into details, I think most of you know where this storyline is going to go. Let me just say that some parts of this story made me completely rage. Almost all of it was because of Peyton’s ex-boyfriend. What a jerk, and I hate that girls actually have to deal with guys like him, and worse, every day. The fact that no one believed her was awful, and the abusive, stalker tendencies of her ex-boyfriend are just one of my worst nightmares for my daughters, as it hits a little too close to home. But, I love the message that Kami makes in the story regarding this, and I hope that all girls, or boys, reading it will know that this is not ok, and you don’t have to take it. Help is there.

I should also mention that not the entire story was rage-inducing. There were also a lot of sweet moments as well. I love Peyton and her family. Her twin football playing cousins were adorable, and I love their protectiveness over her. She also had a really great, supportive mom and uncle as well. And then there is Owen, who she meets when she goes to stay with her uncle, and lots of swoon-worthy moments ensue. Sighhhhhh.

Overall; I really, really enjoyed reading Broken Beautiful Hearts. I love the characters, (well, most of them,) and the story so much. I will definitely be re-reading this book soon, and I’ll also be keeping my eye out for more contemporaries by Kami Garcia in the future! If you love a good contemporary story as much as I do, do check out Broken Beautiful Hearts soon!

Happy Reading!

An up and coming high school soccer star has an opportunity to prove herself to the college she wants to attend but, at a party she finds out her boyfriend is doping to help himself in the MMA. When she confronts him he reacts violently and just may have ended her dream of becoming a soccer legend.

This story as it unfolds will give you some insight into the doping world and the effects it has on the person taking the drugs as well as how it affects those around that person. It is a bit eye opening and will keep you turning page after page.

A striker has to have guts and take risks. You have to know when to pass or take the shot.”

There’s nothing more THRILLING than meeting an author’s words for the first time. It’s a HUGE HIGH. In a matter of minutes after meeting her words, Kami Marin Garcia rose to the top of my list of favorite YA romance authors and is a new top author of mine.

When you end a story crying, you know it’s a story that speaks to the soul. Kami Garcia’s words SLAYED MY SOUL!!! I couldn’t put Broken Beautiful Hearts down! An outstanding young adult meets mixed martial arts romance, Broken Beautiful Hearts gently explores broken trust, the lasting effects of inner scars, and the power of friends and loving family to help in the healing. Broken Beautiful Hearts is YA romance at its BEST!

”So this thing between us is a mistake?”

His eyes search mine.

“Because the way I feel when I’m with you feels like the opposite of every mistake I’ve ever made.”

Broken Beautiful Hearts is an ACHINGLY ADDICTIVE story of love, family, friends, heartbreak, and delicious angst. Peyton and Owen are two broken hearts trying to heal as they become whole together. I adored and admired this hero and heroine who are warriors in the battle of life.

”I’ll do whatever you want, Peyton? Haven’t you figured that out by now?”

This book is BROKEN BEAUTY. Broken Beautiful Hearts is a slow burn that blasts through your heart— setting it ablaze—where you feel every flame igniting inside you, you FEEL EVERYTHING. I swooned. I smiled. I shattered. I cried. I craved more. Broken Beautiful Hearts is RAW and REAL, and I LOVED IT with every piece of my heart!

I’m not looking for a happily ever after. I want a happily even after. The kind of happiness you have to earn.

he is running away scared, but she needs to be able to focus to rehab her knee in order to get back to 100% and play for her college in the fall.

Peyton has already been bullied at her old school, so when she gets attention from the nasty head cheerleader, she is not having any of it and fights back, which is very surprising since no one goes against her. It doesn't help that she WAS dating one of her cousins, Christian, and is sour about the breakup.

Christian and Cameron are always following her and making sure that she is okay - kind of like bodyguards. And while brooding boy Owen has caught her attention, Peyton is adamant that she is not going to date again after what she went through with Reed. And then when she found out that he also fights, that was another strike against him.

But it seems that they are meant to be around each other over and over again, from being partners in English class and then Owen is also helping her rehab at the training facility. The more she is around him, the harder it is to ignore her attraction toward him.

As much as Peyton thinks she is far enough away from home, she is finding that her past is coming back to haunt her. And just when she thinks that things might be okay for her, she stumbles upon a lot of truths that may threaten not only her career in soccer, but also her heart.

This was such a great novel! I am so glad that I got a chance to read this and experience the amazing novel that Kami Garcia created!

Peyton is such a strong character, and it broke my heart to see her get taken down one notch at at time from the people that she trusted the most. She was so strong willed and empowered and determined, but after everything she went through, she crumbled and became so scared in the end. I felt terrible for her, and just wanted to put her under my wing and keep her safe.

Reed and Tess and all of her other friends were such a disappointment. They shouldn't have done what they did and Peyton should have had some people in her corner to back her up. I'm so glad that she got that security when she moved in with her uncle and cousins.

And the tension between Owen and Peyton was amazing. I know she was having issues with trust, but it was obvious that Owen was completely different than Reed - just from the first time meeting him.

This was an amazing book with a ton of feelings that is sure to make any reader feel everything that Peyton goes through. It is an emotional roller coaster that everyone will fall in love with!
