SOMETHING TO HOWL ABOUT is the fantastic beginning of a new series by author Christine Warren that takes us to Alpha, Washington and this author's "Others". A town that houses various shifter beings from otters to lions to bears and the hidden and not so hidden lives they lead. Having been a fan of Ms. Warren's "Other" stories I was thrilled to see she has gotten back to her roots shall we say.

The characters, even though they are paranormal beings, seem so realistic. In this I mean they tease, joke, argue, offer unwanted advice and sometimes just be a shoulder or helping hand. The fact that they shift into an animal form only adds to the personalities. Jonas is a jerk. He denies that Annie could be his mate because he was raised to believe that bears do not mate for life. After hearing his families story, I realized that he was only sort of a jerk. Annie is torn between the world she finds at Alpha and the one she left behind but then again ... hunky bear shifter (even if he is an idiot) or pack that turned you away. Not a really big choice.

Though this is a short novella, it is the perfect introduction to this new series offered by a talented author that has shifters, drama, action, sizzle and sweet and will leave you with the desire for more. Get your hands on SOMETHING TO HOWL ABOUT and be ready to be amazed.

As a lover of all things paranormal, I was super happy when I saw this gorgeousness over on Netgalley. I have never read a Christine Warren book before, but I have to say, I loved my introduction to the Alphaville world.

This book tells the story of Annie as she's trying to win the forgiveness of her pack Alpha, to be allowed back in her pack. I liked reading her story. Annie is a really smart woman, and I liked her. I wonder if more of her backstory is revealed in the previous connected series, The Others. Annie took the words of her Alpha very seriously, and she left behind her friends, her family, and hasn't had any contact with them. She is very lonely, and that made me a little bit sad for her. I liked her, and I liked how strong she was.

Jonas is a very peculiar hero. I enjoyed seeing how he was struggling to understand Annie, and I found that amusing, but I also at times wanted to shake him. I realize that his behavior, his beliefs, were influenced by the decision of his parents and their parents to create a society of bear shifters somewhat similar to other shifter communities, so there were a few things he didn't know, but I still wanted to see him be more receptive to Annie's belief that they were fated mates.

I really liked this introduction to the Alphaville world and I will definitely keep reading this series, as well a the previous one.

Christine Warren’s “Others” series is one of my favorites so I was very excited to know that she was writing a new series that takes place in the same world and Something to Howl About is the prequel to the new Alphaville series. The characters are strong, compelling and draw readers into the story and romance is full of sparks and heat which keep readers glued to the pages. The prequel is a great short story to get this series going, in fact the only thing that could possibly make it better would be if it was longer because I wasn’t ready for it to end, but that’s okay, I’m off to read Baby, I’m Howling For You now.

BONUS! I also had the chance to review the sweet little novella Something to Howl About! A lovely little introduction to the Others and Alphaville worlds!

Annie has landed in Alphaville not only for her talents in genetic science but as a chance for her to redeem herself with her pack back on the east coast. Help the town's brown bear population and she can earn favor back home. One small, or rather LARGE, hitch....Jonas Browning. The brown bear shifter turns out to be none other than Annie's mate..and as most bears would have it, he's a grouch.

Sparks fly and tensions rise as Jonas has to battle his beliefs about bear shifters and mating with his reaction to scientist Annie Cryder. I quick romance to get you back in the groove of the supernatural world from Christine Warren!

This is my first read by Christine Warren and now I'm wondering how I've missed her. This well-written and fast-paced tale is easily read in one sitting and that's just what I did. I would've liked more of Annie's backstory, but the author does give enough to understand the character. I absolutely loved Jonas and his internal bickering with his bear as he struggles with the idea of a mate while trying to remain professional with Annie, and she was just as amusing with her scientific mind being thrown for a loop by the sexy bear. The storyline is intriguing and peppered with a bit of steam and some truly witty dialogue that kept me smiling and chuckling from start to finish.

I've always loved Christine Warren's shifter stories. Not that I didn't love her gargoyles too, but her shifters are my favorite. Something to Howl About is the first book in her new Alphaville series. It branches between her The Others series very nicely.

If you follow me then you know that Grizzlies are my favorite of the shifters with tigers running a close second. Not to worry there's a tiger in this series too. Happy days!

Since I love Grizzlies I couldn't wait for this story. It starts out so good with this very smart woman who isn't sure her place in life. She's thrown out of her other life and has coasted in life till now. Really liked Annie. She has such a sweet attitude when she so sad inside.

How lucky is she to find Jonas? I think she's lucky but then again...love grizzlies! Jonas is really set in his ways. He thinks one way and can't seem to get himself out of that mind set. Thank God for his mother.

This is a very short story but that doesn't take away for how good it is. It makes you want to learn more about the town and it's people and you get a real good romance to boot. It did it's job well!

This came out earlier this month and it's a pretty easy going romance that helps set up the town and what it is like there. Annie is a genius and as a favor to her old alpha with the promise of being reinstated into the pack she is suppose to help the bears with their problem. Jonas asked for help because he is worried about his clan and falling head over heels for the little wolf who is suppose to fix things wasn't supposed to happen. When she tells him that they are mates he overreacts, but is it too late to reconcile his foot in mouth disease? Leave it to Mama Bear to set things right.

This was a great novella and a good start for the series. I haven't read Christine Warren before but after reading this I sure am going to start now.

This new story in Alphaville was HOT, GLORIOUS, AND HAS ACTION THAT WILL LEAVE YOU FEELING LIKE YOUR ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFF GETTING READY TO JUMP! Christine Warren is quickly becoming a MUST GO TO author for paranormal adventure. With Something To Howl About not only took my breath away but had me feeling like I could take a bite out of it and still crave more. I fell crazy in love with the Grizzly shifter Jonas. Gorgeous, a bit growly, protective and caring, its no wonder my heart melted for him. Annie deserves notice too. She is strong and brave, sweet and smart and the sparks that flare between Jonas and her could practically cause instant flames to erupt.

I can't get over how gripping this book was! I loved feeling my pulse race as I turned the pages and every chapter felt like there was more surprises to be had. I enjoy this Alphaville series so much and think just maybe, this one maybe my favorite!

This gets a HAIR-RAISING FIVE SHOOTING STARS!

A very cute and short read. Annie goes to Alphaville to solve a Bear fertility problem and to make amends in order to be accepted back into her old pack from which she had been banished for the last few years. She is lonely and alone. Imagine her surprise when she immediately recognizes her mate in a Bear that decides that she is not his mate despite all the extremely obvious emotions otherwise. Hilarity ensues as it always does with a Christine Warren book. Enjoyed.

Something to Howl About is a super short, but great introduction to the Alphaville world. In this book, we have Annie a wolf shifter and Jonas who is a Grizzly shifter. Annie is a very cool character and I loved her. Jonas has a couple of hang-ups which made him seem too human and plain. They are about the mating in his species and it was very weird reading about them. Thank God, his momma put some sense into him. I hope we will see these two more when the full-length books come into play. I was very happy to find out how the mating works in this universe. It's the one I prefer when I am reading a shifter book, so I will be a happy girl when I am reading the rest of the books. As you might have already realized, I am saying that you should read this book and the ones that are coming next. I am definitely going to do it. Even when Jonas was acting like an idiot, I was liking the book. I enjoyed the story and the way the author wrote it. I hope it won't disappoint later on.

Hip Hip Hooray for smart woman...... Anne is definitely a smart sexy woman with a secret and this combination creates a story that is an enjoyable read. The authors development of the mystery behind Anne's exile from her pack and what she has to do to get back into their good graces is the driving force in all her actions in this book. But oh, what a quandary she gets herself into when she meets sexy Jonas. How she finally makes a decision on what to do is priceless and a turning point to everything she desires.

Jonas comes across as a big sexy in-charge guy and throughout this story he keeps to character is all situations except his thoughts on Anne. I felt his reactions regarding her were entertaining and thought provoking. Another intriguing part of his character was how much he loved and cared for his clan. It shows is everything he does.

This is a great opening for a new series and I look forward to reading more books to this series to see how the Author develops the series. I would especially want to read a story on John Jaeger but only the author knows if he will get a story.

I am usually a fan of Christine Warren but this was just too much insta-love and WAY over the top alpha male mess. The first time Annie and Jonas are in a room together (like only a few minutes since he laid eyes on her) he has her backed into a corner and slobbering all over her.

Maybe it is just my mood but I was just not impressed with skipping any pretense of a romance and just moving right into "mate" and then him thinking that he should not link himself to any single woman was just too much for me. I may have been reading too many historical romances to be able to shift into whatever mindset it took to enjoy this so 3 stars for a decent story but neither of the main couple endeared me to either of them.

The above was my opinion at the 33% mark, I just skipped ahead to the 50% mark and speed read the rest and it did get better (still stayed at the 3 Star level IMHO) but the real job of this story I guess was to make me interested enough to read the first full length story in this series Baby, I'm Howling For You so that DID work since I will be grabbing that next. https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Im-Howling-You-Alphaville-ebook/dp/B073TS6145/

Something to Howl About is a short novella introducing Alphaville. The town of Alpha is where shifters who don't really get along in the outside world come to reside. Not because they are bad or anything, they just aren't of a pack mentality or prefer their own ways.

It just so happens that Dr. Annie Cryer is wandering the country without a place to settle since being booted from her pack. She is excited to get the call from her Alpha saying if she goes to Alpha to help with a problem, he will allow her back to the pack. Annie heads straight for Alpha determined to get their problem solved and get back to her beloved pack. However, things do not go as planned when she comes face to face with a certain bear and her mating bell rings.

Jonas can't believe he is so drawn to this shifter and has these beliefs that bears do not have the same mating instincts that wolves do, and therefore Annie's claim to be his mate is not his problem. He just wants a little fun, not this serious mating stuff. Fortunately he gets set straight. What good bear doesn't listen to his mama?

Annie is a strong-willed and brilliant character. She will get to the bottom of this whole mating discussion. I really enjoyed the banter between these two. They were a lot of fun. This was a really cute introduction to the characters of Alpha, and I'm excited to learn more about those that choose to live there.

Cute and quick intro to the new 'world' Warren has created with Alphaville! This was my first book by Warren but I am looking forward to the rest of the series for sure. Annie and Jonas have a bit of a hate-to-love twist on the fated mates trope and I loved it.

This was a nice intro to a new shifter series. It was short and bursting with potential. Loved the cocky bear alpha and the instant chemistry between the MCs.

Memorable Moment:
The denial of a one true mate existing for bears was weird. He was so adamant it didn't happen to his kind and then Bam! Out of the blue he's told it does and he's experiencing it? Because this was such a short read, the explanation felt too rushed. Definitely needed more page time to sort it all out.

Overall a quirky read with an alpha who gets his world turned upside down by a smart and sassy wolf and a new town chuck full of misfit shifters ready to share their own stories. This is a novella prequel to a new series and it looks promising!

Dr. Annie Cryer has been sent to Alphaville, Washington by her pack leader to help them with a delicate problem and although she's uncomfortable in the town, she dare not disobey the order. She's a wolf shifter and the bears are concerned about fertility issues. Annie does not expect the very strong reaction to the Grizzly shifter, Jonas Browning and he is certainly not expecting to hear that they're mates!
This is a great short story and I look forward to reading more stories about Alphaville and its residents. Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an ARC; all opinions are my own.

This is the second book in this new paranormal romance series. I found all the characters to be very descriptive and imaginative. I am definitely recommend this book.

A novella to introduce a new shifter series which is funny and a bit steamy. I am intrigued to read more of the series.

This is a nice teaser to introduce us to the town of Alphaville. Jonas is a bear shifter and his clan is in jeopardy. The are slowly going extinct. There has not been a birth in 100 years. Dr Annie Cryer is a genetic specialist. She was banned from her wolfpack several years ago and floats from place to place. when they meet, Annie knows Jonas is her mate. Jonas does not react well and things get a little testy. After a somewhat funny conversation with his mother, Jonas sees the light. Nice set up for more interesting stories and characters.
