Kate Pearce’s family-centric Morgan Ranch series is phenomenal and Bad Boy Cowboy is another emotional and sexy installment. HW and Sam both carry baggage when they meet while Sam is staying at HW’s family’s dude ranch. They connect and challenge each other from the moment the meet, and they feel like puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly. Their chemistry sizzles, but it’s their personal evolutions that make Bad Boy Cowboy particularly compelling. Don’t miss another tender and steamy romance from Kate Pearce.

Absolutely loved it when Sam and HW met. I just love the Morgan family stories and I think this is now my favorite.
The series and in this one HW the other twin has left the rodeo circuit and is working at trying to find his place at the ranch and with his family. He has also come into meeting and spending time with Samantha (Sam) Kelly, who is at the ranch as a guest but also someone who is giving them feedback before they open. They are attracted to each other but because of things that have gone in both of their pasts they must work through those before they can allow someone into their own circle. She still finds herself wanting to be with him and HW tells her things that he has not told anyone else. Now can they work past all of that to be together? Read this book and find out. You also find out what HW stands for and more is reveled about the families past. Overall a good book.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series :) H..W. decides to retire and head home to the ranch where he meets Sam, a feisty disabled vet. Family secrets and misconceptions make it a difficult reunion. I think Sam is my favorite female character out of this series. On the surface she seems to have it all together, but underneath she has dragons yet to slay. H.W. also has hidden depths, even though the world thinks he's an air headed charmer.. There's lots of family baggage to unpack to heal old wounds. Pearce always put interesting twists in her plots that you don't see coming- the same can be said here. While it is a stand alone, I do think it helps to read the other books in the series (they're awesome so you should). Her books are always perfectly edited (something I do look for) and she weaves her characters and plots together in a perfect tapestry- the same can be said here. She fleshes out things hinted to in other books. You can't help but root for H.W and that his family will truly see who he is- not just what he's shown them. It's a quick read with lots of heart.
Awesome contemporary cowboy/western romance. HW is one of the Morgan family and has been on the rodeo circuit. He decided to come home and see if he can be with his family. The last time he was there everything went wrong. Sam is a veteran with a wound from an IED that she's recovering from. The Morgan Ranch was recommended for its new programs so she chooses to go and meets HW. There are ups and downs all throughout this book. The author makes this family saga very realistic because things between family members are never as easy as outsiders see. Ms. Pearce gave snipers as the story progresses so it constantly kept your attention and to flip the page. I received a complementary copy via Net Galley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
I’ve been mulling over The Bad Boy Cowboy for a while now, and I am still not 100% sure how I feel about it. Mostly, I’m swaying towards liking it—it is, after all, an incredibly well-written romance. However, I had/have some misgivings about HW and Sam’s back-and-forth, which I just can’t seem to shake . . .
For me, it just dragged on a little long, and made it harder for me to find the attraction they shared, the feelings they were growing together. I would have liked to see less of the fighting (although, please don't misunderstand me, there were times when said fighting was tension-filled and perfect) and more of the connecting. (Mind out of the gutter, friends. But, like, not too far out . . .)
Having said that, there are so many enjoyable things about this book and it would be a disservice to Kate Pearce to overlook them. The family dynamics of the Morgan clan is intriguing and still to be completely resolved. And because of that, the way Sam took up for HW when he needed it—and he needed it—made me happy. Plus, the scenery as painted by Ms. Pearce's words was lovely, and I can't help but wish the Morgan ranch was a real place I could visit.
Despite its hurried conclusion, I am still glad to have read this book. I have lingering questions, and hopefully they'll be answered if this series continues with Rachel's book. If not, I'll be frustrated but not completely unhappy—after all, the ending was swift but sweet, the cowboys gruff and sexy, the story well-written and likable, and that works just fine for me.
~ 3.5 STARS ~
HW Morgan achieved his dream of competing in the national rodeo finals but at a price. He needs some time to decide what he plans to do next and decides to head home to his family’s ranch. Sam isn’t sure how she ended up at a dude ranch but tries to give the equine therapy a try. HW is her riding instructor and as they spend time together, sparks fly. This is a fast paced read with plenty of drama and emotion. I really liked the characters as well as the story. A good read.
A Bad Boy Cowboy by Kate Pearce was an enjoyable book. It is book four of the Morgan Brothers series but does well as a stand-alone book also. I have enjoyed each book in this series. Kate Pearce has a unique writing style that I followed along with easily. This book was descriptive with the lush scenery. and the characters were well defined as they deal with issues from their past.
HW is the male main character and a rodeo star finishing second in the National finals and contemplating retirement. He goes back to his family dude ranch to fill a void in his soul.
Sam is a military vet who lost her lower leg in her last tour of duty. Her friend recommended her to go to the ranch prior to their official opening and give her honest review.
They meet and don’t hit it off right away. Both are so stubborn, and do not immediately recognize what they have in common. Their past issues are clouding their vision and all they see are conflicts. It took a little longer for them to finally realize they had feelings for each other. I recommend reading this story.
Net Galley provided me with an advanced copy of this book for my review.
The most emotional one in the series - I loved it.
I've been eagerly anticipating reading this book. The Bad Boy Cowboy is the fourth book in the Morgan Ranch series, a series that is best read in order. HW Morgan is a rodeo star and in the earlier books he's been portrayed as a bit of a jerk (OK, that's putting it mildly but I want Amazon to publish this review 😊).
I couldn't wait to see how Kate Pearce redeemed this bad boy and she did a fantastic job of it. HW is tired of life on the road and of abusing his body. He returns home to Morgan Ranch to see if his family will accept him back into the fold.
Samantha (Sam) Kelly was invited by a friend to help the Morgans do a trial run at their new Dude Ranch before it opens. She's recovering from an injury and has a lot of baggage. Sam and HW butt heads almost from the beginning but there are also sparks of attraction that both of them are afraid to acknowledge.
Wow, for me, this was the most emotional book in the series. Who doesn't love to see a bad boy be redeemed? HW turns out not to be the total baddy that he was portrayed in the earlier books. He has a lot of baggage from his past that caused him to act the way he does.
I was sobbing in places while reading this and in other places I wanted to smack some sense into both HW and Sam. Their path to an HEA is not easy but reading their story was so worth all of the tears I shed. If you've been following this series and have been wondering what HW stands for I won't give it away; you'll need to read the book for yourself.
I don't know if there are more books planned for this series or not but I sure hope so. There is one sibling left and I'd love to read her story.
A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.
The Bad Boy Cowboy is book four of the Morgan Brothers by Kate Pearce. I had thought none would replace Ry and Avery’s story as my favorite but HW and Sam’s story did it. The entire series is solidly written with strong character development as each brother deals with the past. I would recommend reading the series in order, but I guess one could read this as a stand-alone. However, I loved meeting each of the brothers as they returned home to a place that has haunted them but also with a grandmother who has loved them.
What made this such a hit with me was Samantha, a military vet. I loved her strength, her sense of honor and humor as she rebuilds her life after war. While HW has issues of his own, it did this man good to see a real warrior up close and personal. I enjoyed the way these two sparred with each other as the chemistry between them continued to ignite.
Yes, you can go home again. In fact, sometimes you must face the past to have the best future. Marvelous series with the fourth brother’s story, The Bad Boy Cowboy a hit with me.
HW Morgan, a rodeo champion, has finally earned a spot to complete in the National Finals Rodeo. His dreams are dashed when he comes in second. Not sure if he really wants to compete against all the "youngsters", HW takes some time off returning home. His brothers have been working hard to turn their Northern California ranch into a dude ranch. With hopes of opening in the next six weeks or so, each brother has a specific job, but works as a team. HW hopes they will be able to find a place for him too.
Samantha Kelly made a living as a MP until her unit was attacked. Samantha endured grueling PT in order to learn to walk again. Sam also sees a therapist to help work through her Survivor's guilt. Since being discharged, Sam relies on routine and does not like the unpredictable. When she's offered a chance to spread her wings as a guest "reviewer" at the Morgan Ranch, she jumps at the chance. What she didn't expect to find was HW...
The Morgan's had a tumultuous childhood. Their mother suffered post-partum depression. They all knew something was wrong, but didn't know how to help her. HW was always considered her "favorite", so they thought he had it easy. They never viewed it from his point of view though.
Even at 5yrs old, HW tried to keep the peace using charm. So that's how he's lived his life, charming people into doing what he wants or by saving them. When he's tasked with teaching Sam how to ride horses, he agrees so that he may finally prove his worth to his family. What he doesn't expect is the extent of his feelings for Sam....
I truly enjoyed this novel. I wanted to smack HW, then Sam up side their heads for being so stubborn in their feelings for each other. The love and support given to Sam was what I wish for in a relationship. Sam's quick wit, banter, and strength was inspiring. HW's fight to fit into his family, his patience, and ability to listen was swoon-worthy! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
This series has been just amazing. I’m not sure if this will be the last book as all of the brothers have had their stories told and the main mystery of their mom has been wrapped up. Yet there’s still their sister, Rachel, who can have a story I suppose. Not to mention the people in town.
The chemistry between HW and Sam is hot and I love their banter. Both have so many issues to deal with but are also very used to putting on a false front for everyone around them. They’re both extremely stubborn and hate asking for help…one because he doesn’t think he deserves the love and support of his family and the other because she doesn’t ever want to be considered weak or needy.
It is almost comical how Sam and HW each think they know what is best for the other and assume they are doing what the other wants of them. I swear, sometimes I couldn’t keep track of who should be upset with who and why…in a good way. It was highly entertaining.
I have been very impressed with this author throughout this entire series. I have yet to read any of her other work but feel I need to get cracking on working through her library. She has quite a range and it should be interesting.
This is the fourth installment in the Morgan Ranch Series. This was really an interesting story in the series as it provided more details about the family history of the Morgans. The characters were wonderful, and it was great to read about the characters for the other books in the series. This story also involves a heroine with a disability, which added an extra twist to the story. The pace was excellent and the book was hard to put down. Though it is part of the series, it could be read as a stand alone book.
The good storyline and great characters kept my attention throughout the whole book!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
A new book, another Morgan Brother. I have read all the series so far from Kate's Morgan Ranch. Chase was okay. BB/Blue was Best, Ry was just not my hero:( sorry Ry fans. But HW is sooo Good. I will say I was not excited to read that much about HW because he seemed too "Wild" but needed to read this to complete the cycle. Well I finished the book in a day. ONE DAY. I felt so many emotions this book. I get why HW was always seen as the "Bad boy" But he is and I will sort of quote" He's strong and courageous, and underneath that charm he's so...kind." That is why I couldn't put this book down. The one brother I thought I would really hate. I love the most. The end of the book had me wanting to cry. All the other brothers were so "Happy ending" This book was all sorts of emotions for me. This leads me to talk about the female companion. Veteran and therapist Miss Sam. When we first meet her on the Morgan ranch she is kind of annoying. But It was her plan to fool with HW. that took guts. Sam is strong, flirty, and her instant pondering care for HW. With all of Sam's questioning we get the complete story of Annie and Rachel. Who knew the Morgan's were so scary, and sad. I really hope the family and ranch can get past another scandal/ "GO THE F-HOME LALLY" I was really upset with that character the whole time. Regardless of the ups and downs....I really want another go around of the Morgan's story line. Please let there be more from these hot ranchers. Please?
I have loved all the books in the Morgan Ranch series. In The Bad Boy Cowboy we get the story of HW and Sam. Both are dealing with troubling issues in their past. They both put up a good front, while hiding their pain, suffering, insecurities, and fears. They have an undeniable pull toward each other, one that deepens the more time they spend together. While it excites them, it also scares the crap out of them. There are feelings each never intended to have. This fear causes some heated exchanges, but those growing feelings keep them from staying apart for long. I love how they can both see the other’s true self through the masks they wear. All they need to do is trust completely in themselves and each other, allowing the walls to crumble and love to take over.
I enjoy Kate Pearce’s writing style. Her descriptions are on point and give a clear picture of the scene she has created. The characters are engaging and realistic.
**I requested and received an advanced reader copy from Netgally**
I was gifted with an advanced copy from netgalley.com for an honest review.
I love this series. First of all because the Morgan boys (now men) were all named after characters from the old tv westerns that I used to watch with my grandfather when I was a young girl. I would not recommend reading this as a stand alone, but start at the begining with The Reluctant Cowboy.
This is HW's story. The youngest of the twins, he was perceived by the rest of the family as their mother's favorite. But none of them realized that she had messed with his head as much as she had the others. He was the charmer, because the lesson he learned from his mother was that no one who loved him stuck around; that something about him was "unloveable and leavable". His brothers think he has a "savior complex", but there are more family secrets that only HW knows about, that affected him the most.
At eighteen both of the twins left home to join the rodeo circuit with the dream of becoming Professional rodeo cowboys. However, in the last book, RY had had enough and went home. HW has finally achieved his dream of competing in the national rodeo finals, but at the end of the season realizes that he is getting too old, will never beat the younger guys coming up and he no longer has the desire in his heart. Without his twin, he is lonely, but he doesn't know if he will be welcomed at home and if not there, what will he do?
In a previous book, we also met Jay, ex Navy SEAL who had come home to Morganville. He asks his buddy Samantha (Sam) Kelly, who he had befriended in military rehab, to come spend 6 weeks at Morgan Ranch as a guest to give feedback before the grand opening. She had lost the lower part of her left leg in Afghanistan.
HW is assigned to help Sam relearn how to ride a horse. They start out bickering, but slowly start to trust the chemistry between them. Both have survivors guilt and trust issues due to abandonment by people who supposedly loved them. Will they be able to lower their "shields" and tell each other how they really feel?
The characters are engaging, the setting beautifully described and conflicts abound. Humor, some danger and a couple minor "villains" included. Family and brothers, love and conflicts, gorgeous cowboys- what else could you want?
"The Bad Boy Cowboy" is a standalone. For readers of past books there is a reveal we have all been waiting for. What happens to a couple of struggling tired souls when they have reached their limits? For HW Morgan, he goes home to the family ranch. For Samantha, she is asked to visit a dude ranch to try out the new concept of therapy at the ranch for a trial run. I found both characters working hard to show only their best side, just what they wanted others to see and think of them. The two became aware of each other, the chemistry between them hot and sexy while their insecurities and true feelings came forward. There is a lot of apprehension in their involvement with each other as HW struggles with his childhood, while Sam is coming to terms with her injury and life after the military. The realizations of the past we have been waiting for are finally revealed inadvertently by HW to his family and comes as a shock to everyone. Sam comes to her own realizations following her time in the military. Together, and with a loving family, these two find their HEA. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington/Zebra books for gifting me "The Bad Boy Cowboy". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 5 Stars!
I am loving this series and this book is one of my favorite as HW Morgan is the latest son to return to the ranch and reconnect with his brothers. The characters and stories in this series and this book will grab you by the heart and keep you glued to the pages. This author's writing style makes the story flow easily and makes you feel as if you are on the ranch with all these great characters.
After years of pursing the elusive National Rodeo Championship, HW is no longer certain that's what he wants. He misses his brother and his body is achy. Maybe this is the time to hang up his spurs. If it is what comes next? Can he find a place on the ranch where he belongs? All this is swirling in his head as he makes a visit home. That's when he meets Samantha Kelly who seems to be struggling with her future as much as HW is. Is it possible the may find what they are looking for in each other?
A great read that should be on everyone's must read list! I highly recommend it.
The Bad Boy Cowboy by Kate Pearce is book Four in the Morgan Ranch series. This is the story of “HW” Morgan and Samantha Kelly. This book can be a standalone book if you choice to do so.
HW has been a professional rodeo Cowboy which has cause a rip with his brothers and the Morgan Ranch. But HW is wanting to retired since he has gotten older and has returned home.
Sam is a wounded veteran who when asked by her friend to go to the Ranch to give her thoughts on it and to maybe get her thoughts together. HW and Sam start butting head but that doesn't stop HW from wanting to put a smile and soften the harden vet.
This was a very emotional love story that I was so happy to have read!
