Stowed Away

A delightful mystery set in Maine at the start of a New England summer. What's the best thing about a New England summer? Why the beaches and Clambakes of course.
This is book six in the series. I just loved it. The characters are well developed and the interaction of the Snowden family is very realistic. Throw in a little romance, rich man with secrets, a murder, lots of twists and turns and you have one great read. I didn't even catch the last turn untill the end.
Guess I will have to get the first five and catch up.
I had the kindle version and listened all the way through.
I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. So glad I did
*I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
What a great addition to this series! Since this is book six I am highly invested in the Snowden family by this point enjoying all of their ups, downs, and inner moments. This time Julia is asked to look into the murder of a billionaire at the request of Quentin though none of the family are suspects. I think she just can't help herself by this point so she agrees. What follows is a fascinating mystery that is just full of little clues with enough twists to keep you guessing until you finally learn who the real culprit is. I especially liked the tie in to the events of the last book as well as all of the character growth as it made me feel like part of the family. A must read for cozy mystery fans. I really enjoyed reading it so I give it 4/5 stars.
The Maine Clambake series gets better with every book! This is a great cozy, and the plot and writing are so well done. It was a page-turner with a great ending, not something I often say about a cozy mystery.
Summer is back for the Morrow family and they're about to start up the clambake business again. They need to decide the fate of Windesholme, their family home that was partially burned. Rebuild? Tear it down? The family is torn and brings in a restoration expert that turns out to be an old "friend" of Julia's, Scott Wyatt Jane. She was the mean girl in Julia's life, and Julia has mixed feelings about her now. Julia is even more surprised to find that Wyatt's boyfriend is the famous, reclusive owner of a giant yacht now sitting in the harbor.
When Wyatt's boyfriend is found murdered, all bets are off for Wyatt. Julia steps in to investigate, and what she finds is a huge surprise.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Stowed Away by Barbara Ross is the sixth book in A Maine Clambake Mystery series. Julia Snowden is getting ready for another tourist season in Busman’s Harbor, Maine. Julia and her family own the Snowden Family Clambake Company. They host authentic Maine clambakes on Morrow Island. Windsholme, the old mansion on Morrow Island, suffered severe fire damage and Quentin Tupper is bringing an architect to provide an evaluation on the house. Wyatt Jane, the architect, went to prep school with Julia (Julia is less than pleased to see her). Wyatt arrived on the reclusive Geoffrey Bower’s yacht, Garbo. She invites them to dinner that night to see some of her work and they are surprised to see their friend, Genevieve Pelletier who is the chef for the yacht. The next evening, Julia gets frantic call from Wyatt. Julia races over and Geoffrey Bower is dead in the dining room with a strange grimace on his face. Julia had noticed a diamond ring on the table which disappears before the police arrive on the scene. There was something about the diamond that looked familiar to Julia. Suspicion falls onto Wyatt and Quentin asks Julia to investigate the murder. Julia dives into her investigation and begins by chatting with the crew. She wants to see if any of them had a motive to kill Mr. Bower. But then Geoffrey’s attorney arrives with news that surprises them all and changes the focus of the investigation. Who is the killer? Will they find the culprit before the crew departs town?
Stowed Away is nicely written and has a good pace. While Stowed Away is the sixth book in the series, it can be read alone. All the necessary details are included in the books. There are many cozy elements in the book. Getting the business ready for the season, Genevieve and her romance with Sgt. Tom Flynn, why Julia dislikes Wyatt, Page’s friend, Page’s friend Vanessa Bailey with green eyes just like Chris’, Julia’s romance with Chris Durand, whether to renovate or tear down Windsholme, and the upcoming Family Day clambake (for friends, employees, and family). The mystery is interesting, and many readers will not solve it before the reveal. Can it be solved? Yes. The clues are there to aid readers in solving the crime. There is a delightful twist that will surprise you (unless you paid close attention while reading the story). This is my favorite book in A Maine Clambake Mystery series. I especially appreciated the complex mystery and that the romance between Chris and Julia was in the background. Ms. Ross has created a lovely community of people in A Maine Clambake Mystery series. The main characters are smart, caring and friendly (instead of silly, bumbling fools). Fans of A Maine Clambake Mystery series will be delighted with Stowed Away.
Stowed Away is the sixth book in the Maine Clambake Mystery Series. Although this is part of a series, this book can certainly stand alone. The summer tourist season has once again begun in Busman’s Harbor, Maine, where Julia Snowden operates the family business. In this edition of a Maine Clambake series we are introduced to an eccentric billionaire and an old high school nemesis, who take center stage in this engrossing mystery. The suspects include several people Julia knows, so she feels compelled to get to the bottom of this whodunit. As a cozy mystery, Stowed Away does not disappoint! The plot takes several surprising twists to keep the reader guessing. The town of Busman’s Harbor is idyllic, the main characters are well developed and the plot is well conceived. I received a copy of this book from Net Galley, but this did not affect my rating. I have provided an unbiased and honest review.
This picks up with June hitting Busman's Harbor Maine and Julia and her family are working getting their clambake business underway. When Julia's mother wants to fix up the house on the Island. What Julia didn't count on was who they were meeting with one of the mean girls Julia went to school with. After the meeting Julia, Chris and Quentin are invited to Wyatt Jayne's boyfriend's yacht. They meet the mysterious boyfriend but it isn't long before Wyatt's boyfriend winds up dead and Julia wonders if it is connected to Busman's harbor or just convenient!
I love this series to go back to Busman's Harbor see what everyone is up to and meeting new characters all the time. This one showed more of Julia's past which was great to see even if it wasn't the best memories. We also learn more about Chris's family and why he's not big on discussing them as well as learning more about Quentin. So much going on while getting ready for the summer business to begin!
This book was so full of mysterious people and the secrets they hold including Chris and Quentin who have their own secrets they haven't told Julia and I think confiding in her helped build the relationships. As well as finding out the future of the house on the island and what will come of it. I can't wait to see what comes next in this series!
Stowed Away by Barbara Ross is the 6th book in A Maine Clambake Mystery, and a wonderful book. Julia Snowden and her family are getting ready for the summer season and opening the Snowden Family Clambakes Company. The family is also deciding what to do with Windsholme, the family mansion. Next Julia nemesis from prep school Wyatt Jane shows up, and of course a murder. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book, which Julia is determined to solve.
Ms. Ross's books just seem to get better and better. I enjoyed reading about summer, as it snows outside my house. I strongly recommend this book and the whole series, you won't be disappointed.
I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Another great clambake cozy mystery. Barbara Ross never disappoints. Always eager for the next one.
Stowed Away is the sixth installment in the A Maine Clambake Mystery series set in Busman's Harbor, ME featuring Julia Snowden and her family. It's early June and Julia and her family are preparing for the busy summer season, getting things ready to open the Snowden Family Clambakes on Morrow Island.
The family is trying to decide what to do with the burned out shell of the family mansion, Windsholme located on the island. Family friend Quentin Tupper has asked an architectural and design expert to come meet with the Snowden's and Julia is shocked to see her high school nemesis Wyatt Jane climb off the family skiff.
Wyatt Jane happens to be in town staying on her boyfriend's mega yacht Garbo while it is being refit at the local marina. The mega yacht belongs to the reclusive Geoffrey Bower who has made his billions in the housing market crash and is now one of the most hated men in the world. Wyatt invites Julia and boyfriend Chris along with Quentin to dinner one evening on the yacht. The crew is very protective of their boss and the man himself was actually quite charming until their dinner was interrupted by a group of protestors on the dock.
Julia receives a frantic phone call from Wyatt the next afternoon; Geoffrey is dead. Stumbling on to the crime scene Julia catches a glimpse of something that nobody else including the police detectives seem to notice. Although reluctant to help Wyatt clear her name, Julia feels it's the right thing to do for Quentin.
A fast paced storyline that has all sorts of twists and turns and ties to the Snowden family. The well developed main characters that readers have grown to know and love are all back and this might just be the best of the series so far.
I received an advanced copy of Stowed Away from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.
This is a great book; this is the sixth book in the Maine Clambake Mystery Series written by Barbara Ross. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read it you will defiantly want to go back and catch up with the other book in this series. When Julia’s old prep school rival Wyatt Jayne invites her to dinner on board her billionaire fiancé’s decked-out yacht, Julia arrives to find a sumptuous table set for two—and the yachtsman dead in his chair. Suspicion quickly falls on Wyatt, and Julia’s quest to dredge up the truth leads her into the murky private world of a mega-rich recluse who may not have been all that he seemed. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Another five star cozy in the Maine Clambake mystery series by Barbara Ross. It has enough information in it to allow it to be read as a stand alone but, do yourself a favor if this is the first entry you pick up, get them all and dive in at the beginning. If not, I'm sure you will enjoy this little part of Maine and its inhabitants. Watch out for murder, plot twists and turns and trust that Julia will sort it all out. Until she does, she has her hands full! It's Summer and tourist season is fast approaching and the family clambake business needs to get ready. Julia's mother wants to find out if it would be possible to restore the family mansion and seeks advice from the one person Julia hoped she would never see again, a former disliked classmate. Not only is she here but she lands Julia in a murder complete with a missing diamond ring. A reclusive billionaire has sailed his yacht into the harbor and is soon found murdered.
I love this series - it's satisfying, complex, it has well developed characters that I would like to know in real life. Too bad I read it in one sitting. Now I have to wait for #7. Can't be fast enough for me.
The family is back to work getting ready for the new summer season for their clambake business but when a murder occurs they have to take a step back. Will Julia be able to figure out what is going on before it affects the business. Her rival from school is the main suspect, does she still have competitive feelings towards her and does she really want to help her out? Follow along with Julia as she answers the questions and more. If you love Maine or want to get to know more about it these are the books for you. The recipes at the end are also a wonderful way to get a taste of such a terrific series.
This is the sixth book in the maine clambake series . It is the start of summer so Julia Snowden and her family are getting ready to open their clambake on Morrow Island. The family is trying to decide what to do with the Windsholme house on Morrow Island since the building had caught fire the previous summer. One of Julia's high school classmates is brought in as an expert to look at the home. Her classmates boyfriend owns the huge yacht that is docked in the harbor and she invites Julia and Chris over for dinner.
The next day Julia gets a frantic call from her classmate and her and Chris arrive on the yacht to discover her boyfriend dead. Julia has many reasons to want to investigate and teams up with sergeant Flynn to piece the mystery together.
I always enjoy catching up with the Snowden family. The charcters sre fun and lively. The mystery was well done and there were a few twists that I didn't see coming. I am curious to see what happens with Julia and Chris in the next book.
I received this book from net galley for review.
Stowed Away is the sixth book in the A Maine Clambake Mystery series.
Julia and her family are busy getting ready to open Morrow Island for another season of authentic Maine Clam Bakes. A day or two before, everyone in Busman’s Harbor was in awe of the large private yacht of recluse billionaire Geoffrey Bower tied up at the pier. When a family friend, Quentin Tupper, stops by Julia’s mother’s house with the young lady that designed the refitting of the yacht, Julia’s heart sinks. The young lady, Wyatt Jayne, was a roommate from high school who had treated Julia very badly. Jayne is being introduced to Julia’s mother for possibly doing the design work to rebuild the family home, Windsholme. Julia decides to put the past behind her and accept that Jayne might be around for a while.
A couple of days later, Julia gets a call from Jayne pleading with her to come right away to the yacht giving no other information. When she arrives Jayne takes her to the dining salon where the body of Bower is seated at the table with a terribly gruesome look on his face. Bower was to have had a quiet, intimate dinner with Jayne and the table was set as if that was still the plan. As Julia is waiting for the police to arrive, she does a quick scan of the room looking for anything unusual that might point to what had happened earlier. One thing she does notice is a beautiful diamond ring being held by a lobster claw. By the time she is interviewed and relays this information to Lt. Binder, the lead investigator, the diamond is now nowhere to be found. As it was rare for anybody to be aboard the yacht, the crew immediately become suspects. Especially Jayne and Julia’s friend, Genevieve the chef, as it will be determined that Bower was poisoned. Even with the past history with Jayne, Julia feels compelled to search out the murder and clear Jayne’s name.
I’ve read all six of the books in this series and have loved them all. Ms. Ross does a wonderful job of storytelling, providing a few twists here and there and also provide an exciting and believable cast of characters.
I will be definitely looking forward to the next exciting story on Morrow Island and around Busman’s Harbor.
Stowed Away by Barbara Ross - I enjoyed this book very much as I do all of Barbara Ross’s books. The story takes place in Maine where the Snowden family is getting ready for their business clambake which takes place during the summer. A mysterious yacht appears in the harbor and the story begins. A billionaire, who profits from the losses of his investors, does not disembark as he has protestors in every port. Someone on the yacht has been murdered and Julia Snowden with the help of her boyfriend, Chris, has to solve the murder to prevent their friend, Wyatt, from going to jail. A fast moving, historical, must read, drama. Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book.
I'm such a fan of the Maine Clambake Mystery series, and this book (the sixth in the series) did not disappoint. The story starts with Julia and her family--characters that are such a joy to visit with every book--deciding if they'll renovate or restore the family home on Morrow Island, all while preparing for the clambake season.
Old school 'friend' Wyatt is there to help with the renovation assessment, along with her wealthy, reclusive boyfriend who is nearby on his yacht. It takes a while before there is a crime, but it's clear later that there were a lot of characters to introduce and clues to plant. There something of a twist at the end which I saw coming, but Ross still pulls it off. This felt very much like an Agatha Christie mystery to me, which is a big compliment.
Great mystery, and this sixth book shows how a cozy mystery doesn't have to be repetitive. Barbara Ross has to be one of my favorite cozy mystery authors: she keeps the story and characters intelligent, but manages to create that cozy context readers come back for.
If you're not familiar with the series, I highly recommend starting with the first book, Clammed Up.
**NetGalley provided advanced copy for review**
This is a wonderful addition to the series, After every book in this series I want to plan a trip to Maine and find a clam bake. I love Julie Snowden and her character grows more in each book. The mystery kept me guessing and if you love this series this is a must read. If you have just found this series you can start with this book, but I recommend starting from the beginning.
This is book six in the series by Barbara Ross. I learned some new things. There was wonderful descriptions. Thurston Howell III was a great context example. There is humor relief when an older women has a protest banner on her walker. I would love to see a yatcht such as the one featured in this story. Lots of secrets come out- wow! Several mysteries to figure out. Another great book- A well written page turner. Recipes included!
Stowed Away by Barbara Ross in an incredible story, intricately woven to leave even the most seasoned cozy mystery buff stumped.
Busman's Harbor, Maine, an idyllic town filled with residents who look after each other, are excited and curious as to why the magnificent yacht, Garbo, is moored to their dock.
Rumors has it that a reclusive billionaire is on board and the speculations are running wild.
It isn't until Julia Snowden meets Wyatt Jane, that she understands the reasons behind their arrival.
Wyatt is a top notch designer, brought in as a consultant for some renovations.
Julia dislikes Wyatt, the reasons stemming back to an old high school issue.
It isn't until Wyatt becomes a suspect in the untimely death of reclusive yachtsman that Julia begins to soften towards Wyatt.
The twists and turns in this story will certainly keep you guessing. There were enough red herrings that I thought I was able to figure it out quickly, but I was wrong.
Fans of this series written by the talented Barbara Ross are bound to love Stowed Away # 6 in The Maine Clambake Mystery Series.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

You know a book is really good when you find yourself wishing you could go back and start the series from the very beginning. A strong mystery and a solid likable cast of characters made this very enjoyable to escape into.
The beginning of tourist season for Morrow Island and the Snowden family is always busy.
Adding to the stress and excitement is consideration about rebuilding the family mansion on the island. Everyone seems to have different opinions.
A person from Julia's past brings an even more turbulent emotional rollercoaster into play and causes secrets about Quentin to the surface. Even if you have not read any of the previous books in this series you won't be lost. It will make you want to move them to the top of your reading list.
Relationship issues, troublesome coincidences and a mysterious billionaire all add to the mystery.
A full five star read with multiple twists.
