No Grater Evil is book 3 and I found it entertaining with well-crafted characters.
In this instalment, we find Jane planning a reunion for her dinner club while camping in the Rocky Mountains. However, before they can even start their celebration the campground host has been murdered.
This book was different because we see the main character, Jane dealing with some of the characters who suffer from Alzheimer and PTSD which is a new twist on stories I have read.
Quite enjoyable and I can't wait to read the next instalment.
Though I have not read any of the other books in the series, this one was easy to follow and understand, though, I must admit, the author did interject subtle back story. In this book, Jane and her gourmet dinner club friends are camping in the Rocky Mountains, when the campground host is killed, upsetting everyone. Because there was a firing range close by, some members of the club have brought along pistols to fire, so now they all come under suspicion. Jane figures she needs to jump in to find out what really happened, bringing along her dinner club friends right into the unofficial investigation. There are a few layers to the life of the dead man, which Jane and her friends begin to unravel, slowly and carefully. At the same time, Jane’s relationship with Dale moves into rocky territory, only adding to Jane’s concerns. Nevertheless, as usual, Jane, assisted by her friends, works through the myriad of clues and red herrings that crop up, looking for just the right lead to figure out who the murderer is.
As I said, I have not read any other books in the series or by the author, for that matter, but did not have any difficulty understanding this or following the story and the characters. I found the basic tale a bit refreshing, as I have not seen this much on weapons and how they play out in any other story I have read in this genre. Jane comes across as a strong, intelligent, well-spoken woman, which is also good as well as making the story interesting. Having her rocky relationship with Dale only made things more believable for me, as I think this is how relationships often go and are a very big part of anyone’s life. The other members of the gourmet dining club were also spot on, portrayed as realistic and perfect for the story and setting. Finally, the story flowed along nicely and moved fast enough to follow but not confuse or lose me. I have not read any of the other books in the series but will not look for them. I think this story will interest any reader who enjoys good cozies. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.
I received this ARC via Netgalley and the publisher in return for an honest review. This is not the first book in the series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, it helps to have read the others, which I have not. The premise is good - a gourmet dining club meeting for a camping trip, when murder intervenes. Unfortunately, I didn't find the characters that sympathetic so I struggled to finish this book. It seeks to note the challenges of those with post-traumatic stress disorder, for which I applaud the author's goal. I just wish I'd been more invested in the people in the story.
Empty nester Jane and her friends from the culinary dinner club are on a camping trip when they discover a body. Unfortunately all the clues seem to point to her friends so Jane sets out to find the real killer. The author has a smooth writing style and incorporates issues like Alzheimers and PTSD into the book making us feel like the characters are our friends and neighbors. An enjoyable read.
Jane Marsh organizes a glamorous camping outing in Colorado's Rockies for her dinner club with lavish menus and provisions. Then she finds the body of the campground host Mike Quadtrini shot dead the next morning. Since the club members are packing revolvers to practice at the firing range, Jane's friends and the other campers are the prime murder suspects. Since the Forest Service investigators keep bringing them in for questioning, Jane decides to do some sleuthing of her own to help clear them. Jane learns that Quadrini had several people who may have wanted him dead. He was responsible for a car accident that killed the child of one of the campers. Quadtrini also hid the presence of asbestos at a Forest Service site which was being renovated until a whistleblower led to the site's closure. Jane's dinner club reunites for a Fourth of July weekend at an Estes Park cabin. But when she sees several of the main suspects in town, Jane wonders if the killer has come back to silence them.
I received an eARC via Netgalley and Wild Rose Press with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
No Grater Evil is a well written cozy mystery. I loved the plot, setting and cast of characters. I recommend to readers who enjoy reading a good whodunnit.
This was a mystery on a camping trip. I loved the idea of the supper club and the character of Jane who must solve a murder while dealing with characters who suffer from PTSD and Alzheimer's. Also loved the Estes Park, Colorado settings. Great mystery! Now I have to read the others in the series.
I obtained this book through Net Galley and have left an honest review.
This one is a culinary cozy mystery. Jane and her gourmet dinner club are out hiking, they come across the body of the campground host. The police suspect Olivia, one of the gourmet dinner club members. The story takes us through Jane's investigation to prove Olivia innocent.
It is an interesting book, it keeps you engaged till the end. I loved Jane and her friends. There are recipes at the end of the book
I found myself struggling to read this book. The title excited me, I thought I was in for a treat but I ended up a bit disappointed.
The characters seemed flat and the story was disjointed. There was a lot of information that I had a hard time following.
Thank you to NetGalley for offering me the opportunity to read this story.
Was a bit lost and behind since I haven't read the previous books, I think I would have enjoyed more with knowing the background. But overall good plot with a good story.
I had some problems in getting hooked by this book. The heroine seemed to me a bit cold and I could not get involved in the story as much as I would have like.
This was partly due to the fact that there is a lot of background references that seem relevant to the current plot.
I would like to try to read some of the previous books.
The story is well written and there is a sound plot. I just suppose this was not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Wild Rose Press
