Nice book, didn't really great a whole lot of new information from it.
Love the cover the and the layout so would probably purchase for a friend.
Thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book.
I attended high school with Shiva Rose in Los Angeles, and little did I know we'd both suffer life=threatening conditions (hers is auto-immune-related and mine is bipolar disorder) and we'd both become published authors! "Whole Beauty" is a beautifully produced book that offers the reader an array of holistic health modalities that will uplift mind, body, and spirit. I love how Shiva provides recipes to make amazing-sounding products and she clearly defines Ayurvedic traditions that I've always been curious about such as dry brushing. I worked at an essential oil college in California for several years (COBHA) and took classes there, and I particularly appreciated Shiva's knowledgeably written chapter about using essential oils. "Whole Beauty" is written with passion, love, and profound respect for what nature offers us to utilize for inner and outer beauty. It's a lovely book, inspiring to page through and ideal for gift giving, and I highly recommend it!
It’s a practical reading, easy to follow and with some very interesting ideas.
I want to thank the publisher, Artisan Books, and netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this beautiful book. The book is well written and beautifully presented, with beautiful photographs and page layouts
This book is much more than the title prescribes, it is more than recipes to make wholesome skin care products. It deals with beauty of the whole woman, body mind and soul. This book is an awakening to the importance of self care which is more than buying and using the right cosmetic products. The author, Shiva Rose provides the ingredients of how to achieve not only outer beauty but also inner beauty through traditional practices, such creating rituals for oneself fused with mindfulness practices, yoga and meditation and nutrition, resulting in complete nourishment.
Women often put their own needs aside to care for others. I truly enjoyed reading this book, I just felt so special and beautiful reading this book and realize that I need to practice more self-care.
I could feel the passion, and beauty of Ms, Shiva through her words.
I think that every woman can read this book and find something useful,. This book us a great gift for women.
I really enjoyed this book. While all of the detailed practices and rituals included are probably not practical for the average person, I think most people could easily find a few things to try and incorporate into their lives. I particularly enjoyed the chapters on meditation and feminine goddesses.
I enjoyed this book, but I think whoever reads it should understand that this is holistic, spiritual health and beauty advice. Everything from natural skincare to how to care for your yoni egg are included in this book, and I think it may throw someone off if they were only expecting the former.
Oh dear. The publisher describes this book as a book of recipes for homemade beauty items. I expected homemade soaps, lotions, scrubs, shampoos, and balms. The book delivered something else. The first half of the book is about pagan goddesses, creating altars, and meditation ceremonies appropriated from any number of cultural traditions without any real understanding of the original significance of those traditions. The first recipe for a homemade beauty item is found on page 118. The ingredients are somewhat expensive and the creams, tonics, and masks mostly have odd, mystical names. I believe this book should be in the New Age section of a bookstore or sold in a New Age store because of the presentation of the content.
This is a beautiful book, and while I expected something quite different, it was interesting to read. I expected more beauty treatments (which it does include - face/hair, etc.), there was the addition of the holistic aspect of beauty, including mantras, guided meditation, crystals, etc. I would recommend this read for someone who is more into the holistic approach than I am, however I will be trying the treatments included!
While absolutely beautiful, this book is definitely for women with a holistic view. I really enjoyed a lot of the book, specifically, crystals, tea ceremonies, chakras, and essential oils, along with the whole mindset of the book, which is basically "take care of yourself." It was fascinating, though some of it was a little took "hokey" for me. I was also disappointed that some of the ingredients were hard to find, and probably a little expensive. Maybe for the wealthier holistic woman.
I could conjure the essential oil and flower essences with each turn of the page. If reading a book could evoke a healing spa retreat, then this book will take you there. Thorough and thoughtful, you will feel both indulged and rejuvenated just holding this book.
