This book was amazing!! I could not put it down! This was a gift for me from this author and just wow! Excited to read more by her!!
So Good. Pretty Dead Girls by Monica Murphy was Truly a Wonderful Treat to the Readers. I Could not stop reading this amazing book.
I Highly Recommend all Readers to read it now.
Swift YA mystery about the world of rich, pretty and popular girls in school - who start to die. Penelope Malone , the president of The Larks, the group of ambitious (and somehow mean, at least some of them) IT girls, is scared, because all the dead girls were part of The Larks and it seems that the killer might be closer than she thinks. Might it be Cass, the hot guy from her physics class? Or one of her friens? Teachers?
This is quite good read. The mystery is somewhat more about the shock factor than the real sleuthing, but Penelope´s internal change is well portrayed and Cass is really hot. The depiction of the superficial, shallow realities is well done and somehow sad, too.
I would wish for more depth here, but as a leisure read this is not a bad choice!
I understand this book is labeled YA, but it was a bit too immature in the writing for me. I couldn't connect with the characters at all and it was all too juvenile to really get into.
This ended up being super enjoyable! I really loved how twisty it was, the ending wasn’t a complete surprise but I was thrown off for a good chunk of the book!
I have read many Monica Murphy books previously and enjoyed them all - but this one was one of my favourites! The story gripped me and I found it a really easy read. Finished the book in 2 days!
I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book even though I did not finish this book.
This book will have you so curious and questioning everything as you quickly learn all is not as it seems and everyone has secrets. This is a total mind screw in all the best ways. I highly recommend for YA thriller fans.
I will not be posting a review on goodreads because I was unable to enjoy this book and do not feel comfortable leaving a negative review.
This book was interesting. I liked Penelope, though I never felt like I could truly connect with her. I really enjoyed the mystery and figuring things out with Penelope as we went, but I did not find it to be overly shocking or compelling. Overall, I think this was a good thriller that kept me engaged. I would recommend others give it a go.
I love the mystery vibes of this book. It keeps me wondering what is going to happen right from the beginning of the book until the end of it. Pretty Dead Girls is indeed a page-turner and you will not let yourself to put the book down because you will want to continue reading the whole book for your whole night. That's how good this book is.
I really liked this one, especially Penelope and Cass, but there were also bits I didn't like so much. I wish I could rate this book two stars and five stars simultaneously for the different parts, because that's how I felt about Pretty Dead Girls!
Unfortunately, this book was not a good match for me, and I will decline to review. I hope plenty of other readers find it more compatible, and thank you for the opportunity to review!
Pretty Dead Girls is a Young Adult Mystery set in the small seaside town of Cape Bonita.
It shares some similarities to TV shows like Pretty Little Liars and Scream Queens.
I have a 15-year-old daughter and read it through her eyes, the mostly intended audience.
The story is told in two points of views - Penelope and a few chapters from the unknown murderer.
Penelope is the head cheerleader and president of the Larks, a group of 10 popular, highly involved and mostly wealthy girls who try to use community service to look good on their college applications.
Only the most popular girls - 5 seniors, 5 juniors can earn a spot.
The senior Larks are being murdered one by one.
It was definitely a page-turner and I found myself trying to get back to it so I could figure out the identity of the murderer.
I couldn’t really relate to the girls because they were all pretty self-centered and bitchy.
I know bullies and mean girls enhance angst and conflict in stories, but I usually like the narrator to be a better person than the rest of the group.
I loved Cass, the “bad boy” and found myself enjoying his and Penelope’s scenes the best.
Young adult fans will enjoy this page-turner for the suspense and the romance and the cover is a gorgeous addition to any bookshelf.
* I received an ARC copy of this from Entangled Teen via NetGalley.
This book wasn't my favorite, but it was a quick and pleasant read that was good for a mindless escape for a couple of hours. The mystery is fairly obvious from the beginning but it was enjoyable getting from point a to point b.
This book reminded me a lot of the basic plot of Pretty Little liars. A lot of drama, a lot of teenage angst and a lot of secrets..... Well written, highly recommended.
This book was a cross between Mean Girls and Pretty Little Liars. It is a good YA book that may appeal to teen readers. The book was suspenseful and kept me guessing until the very end. A good summer read!
I've tried three times to get into this book and can never make it past the first few chapters. Unfortunately just not for me.
This book was amazing, Ms Murphy gives us the perfect blend of teen girl drama, with enough spice to keep turning the pages regardless of the hour of the night. I would read more about this clique of girls and their dark secrets any day.
I'll be honest, at the beginning, I thought about giving up on this, once or twice. I just couldn't get into it. But then came along Cass Vincenti, and he's the one who added all the real stuff into the story.
Though the story was from Penelope's point of view, I just couldn't get into it until Cass showed up. Her character seemed pretty dull to me, to be honest.
After that, the story picked right up. There was suspense, and of course the romance. I read this book in two days, only because I had to sleep. I kept reading, first because I wanted to know who the killer was and then when I did realize who it most possibly was, I kept reading because of Cass.
I also loved the 'killer's point of view' snippets. They kept me on edge, and wanting to keep reading.
All in all though, Pretty Dead Girl was pretty reckless but a page turner nonetheless!
