I've never quite read a book like this. It seemed a bit slow in the early chapters, but quickly picked up. It has the rocker, romance appeal.
Amber and her 2 sisters (by other mothers) have lived with their moms on a commune in Maine for the last 25 years. Then one day a lawyer comes knocking and has an offer for each of the girls ... their fathers will pay them $10 million each if they come to New York to meet them. All these years, the girls have been lied to by their mothers. Emerald & Rose don't want to go, but Amber wants to go and tell them to take their money and shove it. They would much rather have had fathers that were there when they were young. The fathers are in a rock band that the mothers toured with back in the day and when the women found out they were pregnant, they left because they knew that the guys did not want to be tied down with wives and kids. When Amber goes to New York, she meets Ty, the newest member of the band and the sparks fly between them.
I loved how innocent Amber was ... the way she spoke had me laughing out loud. And Ty just seemed to be that dark cloud in the room until Amber appears. The only thing I had a hard time with was the band trusting her opinion so highly and quickly ... after 25 years, they just agree to a makeover with no fuss. Otherwise it was a great book and I can't wait for the next one.
I received an ARC copy courtesy of Montlake Romance through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Amber grew up on a commune in Maine, along with her two sisters, each of the girls have their own birth mum but have been collectively raised by all of their three mothers. They live a quiet life, they were home schooled, grew their own vegetables and make little use of modern day technology.
All three sisters are now in their early 20’s and have just found out who their father’s are, well kind of. A proposal has been offered to them by a lawyer and it has left them all feeling slightly infuriated and insulted. To be fair, it has also invoked a feeling of shock a bit of disappointment towards their mothers. How could they have kept this information from them for all their lives?
There is only one way to sort this, Amber decides to take matters into her own hands, flying to New York to meet with these world renowned rock star men who fathered them all. She plans to tell them exactly what she thinks of their lack of communication and interest in their daughter’s lives.
Amber definitely stands out in the big city with her unique ‘hippy commune chick’ look she has going on but she plans to embrace the experience with an open mind. However, one thing she hadn’t anticipated was meeting Ty Stanz, the most recent addition to the band. This extremely hot guy who seems to pop up all over the place, in fact it feels like he is her personal stalker.
Ty is actually a really nice guy and quite endearing. Amber may be feeling a bit vulnerable and out of her depth at times but Ty is quite protective of her, making sure she is doing okay. He was completely in the dark about her situation, the band often keep things to themselves, treating him like a temporary member. There is a bit of bad feeling among the band around the dynamics, they really need to sort things out and be more inclusive with Ty.
When Amber finally meets the men who fathered her and her sisters she doesn’t waste any time telling them not only what she thinks about them as ‘fathers’ but also about the way they treat Ty. Amber’s pragmatic approach to issues leads to a proposition from the band, one that could open doors for her future and help them move forward in a more ‘current’ way.
The friendship between her and Ty grows in something more. The connection that they have is unlike anything Amber has experienced before. Ty loves that she is just a naturally beautiful girl, he is over girls with botoxed lips & boob jobs. This is the most real thing he has ever had and he does not want Amber to walk away from him to go back to her commune life. However, the rock star lifestyle comes with pitfalls, like the soul sucking paparazzi. Maybe Amber is really in over her head?
This was completely far fetched fiction and sometimes I really need to read something like this, a story not full of angst or drama but with enough storyline to keep me turning the pages.
What a great start to the new series Red Hot Love by Elle Casey, Amber is a bit different to previous books I have read by this author but it’s still everything you would expect from the very talented Elle Casey. If you love rock themed romance this really is a must read.
Amber and Ty are two very different characters bound together by a rock group, he is the lead guitarist and she has just found out she is a the love child of one of the original 90’s group members. Amber and her sisters where raised on a hippy commune in Maine and when they find out their fathers are rock stars and their mothers were groupies it’s Amber that takes off to the bright lights of New York City to find the truth out, what she finds is Ty ........ opposites attract and sparks fly when these two meet but will their differences be too much......,
I loved the characters , I loved the storyline and I really feel this first book is a great start to what looks like a brilliant series. Looking forward to the next in the Red Hot Love Series
First off thank you to NetGalley and author for allowing me to review this title. As much as I wanted this book to work out in my favor it didn’t. I had a hard time connecting with the main character, Amber. I felt her to be super rude and judgmental which is funny because she doesn’t like rude people. I also didn’t like the bashing of New York City. I’ve been here all my life and I’m tired of the stereotype that us New Yorkers are rude and pushy. My city is one of the best places to live! So between not liking the main character and the constant bashing of NYC this book became an DNF for me which is sad because I had such high hopes for this book.
Amber’s life is peaceful if not a little boring living on a hippie commune in Maine with her three mothers and two sisters. She and her sisters lives get flipped upside down when a lawyer shows up on their doorstep representing a famous rock band offering a $10 million settlement each to their three daughters. Not only are they shocked that their father’s may be alive, but also that their mothers had been groupies for the band Red Hot, gotten pregnant at the same time, and retired to a commune to raise them and never telling them that their fathers were alive.
I’ll admit, this premise was a new one for me! Groupie moms, now hippies on a commune raising their daughters? When hippie chick Amber arrives in NY, a little heated about these fathers trying to buy their daughters off, she is a duck out of water. Ty, new lead guitarist for Red Hot, meets her at the airport, but she takes the old adage “Never talk to Strangers” very seriously and although cute, she ditches him. The hijinks between Ty and Amber begin. They have some serious chemistry and Amber soon can’t resist this tortured musician.
Yes, this was a love story that I really liked, however the real conflict is between Amber and this band of possible fathers. When she gets past her anger, she starts to build relationships with the band and those scenes are written so well, the pain on both sides heartbreaking. I really liked how her feelings for them and learning how they loved her mothers really added depth to the story and as a comparison made the love story between she and Ty real. Amber was different than other Elle Casey novels, but I really enjoyed it! I will definitely be reading her sister Emerald’s story when it comes out in April 2018! ❤❤❤❤❣
I was given an ARC of this novel through NetGalley for my honest review, and it was honest!
To those who know me, I picked up this book for obvious reasons. I am a rocker chick and have a weakness for the rock n roll lifestyle! Not only was this rock n roll themed, it had unconventional families and the main character grew up on a hippie compound with three mothers.
So pretty much, this was the perfect read for me! I knew I would love this book based on the synopsis but what I didn't know is that it would quickly climb to one of my top favorite romance novels ever! I was instantly captivated by the characters and their charm. I loved Amber and her free loving spirit! I could relate to her on so many levels and she had a heart of gold underneath her hurricane exterior. Ty's mysterious personality and his past that went along with it made me fall in love with him. #fictionhusband. I LOVED how DNA didn't make a difference on who was family and not in this sweet story. I also loved that the supporting characters LOVED each other with no restrictions or jealousy.
There was not one bit of jealousy or grudges really in this novel and for me it really signified true love. It's rare to come across a novel that suites my beliefs and is so non judgemental. I know, I know, I am a hippie with all the free love stuff but this novel was completely swoon worthy for me and made me feel right at home.
The plot was way more than a romance and what it might seem at first glance. When I went into reading this novel, I thought romance would be the sole focus but man was I wrong. This book depicts how hard it can be to just live and be yourself with the weight of responsibility and struggles weighing down on your shoulders. When reading this novel, I was touched by reading about how Amber went into a different culture and how she really made a difference. She lacked greed, resentment and even though she was tough, she had a heart of gold. This story was filled with romance, drama, family issues and lack of judgement of anyone's life choices. If you are looking for something different or enjoy the love of a rock star I recommend you read this book. This is my first Elle Casey book but I can say without a doubt that "Ms. Casey, I'd follow you anywhere!" This book has Dani's stamp approval!
Amber was the go-getter out of the three young daughters and was determined to go to New York to let the band members know that there was no way the girls were going to accept any money from them and maybe find out how they could wait all of these years to reach out to them or their mothers.
Ty was a new member of the band who seemed to be on the outside looking in even though he was able to play Red Hot’s music backwards and forward. The interaction between Ty and Amber was hilarious at times and at others heartbreaking. The band members themselves did have redeemable qualities that Amber was able to see, even if she was sure there would be none there. They made her a job offer she could not refuse and the ballsy Amber did not walk away from it. This was a strong female who had learned the value of being nice to people and working hard. I cannot wait to see what becomes of her sister Emerald in the next book in this series.
Amber lacked acuity in many veins: The characters were undeveloped and filled the story with gaping holes that were never plumbed.
There are novels where a dislikable character is pivotal in harnessing growth and maturity. A dislikable character is realistic; however when there is no maturing, the character is deemed flat and rote.
In Amber, there was much redundancy and repetition where there needed to be validity and answers to open ended questions.
There was much potential in the idea of this story, unfortunately in the miasma of crises and emotional lamentation it failed to withstand the unfolding of the telling.
I am not a fan. The story is lacking and needs more depth or development
Unfortunately I dnf this book at 38%. I felt like the hero and heroine were both very immature at times which was very frustrating.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for an honest review.
Amber grew up on a communal farm with her two "sisters," Rose and Emerald, with each of their three mothers taking turns raising them. She knows it's an idyllic existence which is why she's not super stoked that a hot lawyer-type is on her front porch with news that is going to change their entire lives. It seems they're actually the love children of the band Red Hot. Their mothers were groupies, and when they found themselves pregnant, they decided to leave. Hot lawyer wants to offer them 10 million dollars a piece to meet the band. Amber is the only sister who really wants to go. So she goes to New York and immediately gets accosted by a tattooed gentleman who seems to know her name.
Tyler Stanz is the newest member of Red Hot, replacing the lead guitarist. He's very "guyliner" in a band that is known for mullets. Neither the band nor their fans seem very accepting of him. Which is part of the reason he was so ready to help out by bringing Amber in from the airport, not that anyone has told him who she is.
As Amber and Ty start to figure out where each fits into the Red Hot family, they also start to discover just how their initial attraction can start to turn to love.
Elle Casey can be kind of uneven for me. The books I've read of hers have been rated from two to four stars. There were some definite sticking points in this book for me (how did Amber attend college and not know about smart phones or Snapchat; why did she start beating on some guy who definitely knew who she was) but I overall fell into the "like" category for this book. I liked the world-building and am ready to see Rose and Em get their own HEAs (and hopefully hot lawyer too, but preferably not with one of the sisters.)
Three stars
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is not the first book that I’ve read by this author. I feel like this book took a very long time to get to the point. It has 40+ chapters and after chapter 24 I was wishing for the end to come soon.
I don’t like to give negative reviews or comments about a book because I know that authors put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into their effort- but since I’m giving my honest opinion- it was too long and slow going.
3.5 stars
Amber by Elle Casey is a sweet and enjoyable read.
The storyline held my interest, the plot was easy to follow and the writing is well done.
I liked Ty and Amber and enjoyed watching them come together.
Amber is a good start to the Red Hot Love series, looking forward to the next book.
I love Elle's books and really enjoyed this completely different take on the rockstar romance genre.
Amber and her sisters have lived on a hippie commune almost all of their lives never knowing their fathers. Suddenly one day a lawyer arrives on their doorstep and tells them that their fathers are in a very famous rock band and that they have left them a pile of money. After deciding that they do not want the money the sisters agree that Amber being the bravest and most outspoken of the them will travel to New York and tell the fathers just what they think of them after being abandoned for 20 years.
What follows is a fun story as Amber navigates New York, meeting the fathers and a totally unexpected new relationship. You have to admire how Amber's character grows so much as she takes New York in her stride using her downhome common sense. She creates a new career for herself and makes friends all over the city.
One thing that I didn't like in the book was that we never found out which daughter belonged to which father, but maybe we are being kept in suspense. I also thought that the meeting between the mothers and the rock band after 20 years was too glossed over and should have had more but again maybe it was done to make the reader come back for more..
All in all another great book from Elle, highly recommended. .
This is the second book that I've read by this author. I loved it. Never disappoints.
Loved the characters lots xx
In three words I would sum up AMBER as humorous, cute and fun. There were some things aspects to the story that I had to take with a pinch of salt but if I’m honest I was too taken with the story to care.
As reads go it’s one I devoured in an afternoon and did so with a smile on my face.
As much as I love music, I don’t read a lot of rocker romances but I loved the thought of a hippie girl finding out she’s the daughter of a Rock God and tracking him down. Unfortunately, the scenario I had built up in my head never panned out. This was a book about regret – namely making major life decisions that affect others without consulting them first and the long-lasting repercussions that can happen because of them.
From her free-loving description, I had Amber built up in my head completely different than the sheltered girl who lived in a commune she turned out to be. Amber was the type of character who spends her life making sure everyone else she cares for is taken care of. She’s an organizer and a problem solver, but she’s so busy taking care of everyone else, she’s neglected her own issues.
As for Ty, from his description, I had a complete alpha-hole pictured in my head. I could not have been more off base. In fact, Ty is the antithesis of an alpha male. He was extremely emotional and very unsure of himself. Geez, the guy even wore eyeliner even when he wasn’t on stage or at an appearance. Ty was nice enough but he was not my cup of tea.
Other than Ty not being a hero I could connect with, my other problem with the story was the sheer number of unlikely things happening in order for this plot to work. For instance, three groupies got pregnant, by accident, all at exactly the same time. Or the manager of the band conveniently being gone for a month right when the girls were finding out about their rock band dads. Or a hippie girl who was raised in a commune who doesn’t even know what Snapchat is, yet spends a couple hours with an aging rock band and knows exactly what they need to do to update their look and personas.
Amber ended up being a nice story with a sweet lesson to impart. If this had had an alpha hero I could get behind I believe I would have enjoyed the story despite the hard to swallow coincidences. Alas, emotional basket cases just don’t light my fire.
Rating: 2.5 I Need An Alpha Hero Stars
Received an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley)..I go back and forth with this author, sometimes I really enjoy her work, and sometimes I can't..This one was o.k. to me, not a 2 star but definitely not a 4..What I enjoyed was the family being close even though they were different. Amber was funny, not that bright to me, but enjoyable. I wont go into much detail, I am not really sure that I will say go out and grab a copy, but I wont tell you that it is horrible, it's not it is just not my cup of tea.
Amber and her two sisters live in a hippy commune with their three mothers(?) leading a very sheltered life and being homeschooled. Enter a New York lawyer informing the girls the are each to receive $10 million off three members of a rock band their mothers had once been involved with. It turns out the mothers were groupies that followed the band around all sleeping with different members, and they have no idea who from the band are each girls father.
Amber takes it upon herself to go to New York to tell them they don't want their money, arriving at the airport she is met by Ty a new younger member of the band.
If you haven't before this you have to totally suspend all belief in this story when after a couple of days of meeting the band Amber takes it upon herself to become their stylist and assistant, this a girl that's always worn homemade clothes and when gets to New York goes to thrift shops for outfits for a big night out.
For some reason it keeps mentioning Tys smudged eyeliner, we get no closer to knowing which band member could have fathered which sister.
Sorry this story wasn't for me and if I'm really truthful I found myself skipping pages through boredom. I note other reviewers enjoyed the book, on afraid I just didn't.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book honestly.
