when leah meets brooks in the billionaire's unexpected baby she's already four months pregnant with another man's baby. amazingly this is never really a problem for brooks. he never flinches or hesitates. when he tracks her down as she's moving into her new apartment and possibly losing her job due to her pregnancy, he impulsively offers to marry her.
so in the span of a month, he's married and on the path to fatherhood. it's supposed to be temporary. enough to buy leah some time to settle into her new job without the threat of being fired. but the time they spend together is real. the relationship they have together is real. and it's complicated by this baby that they both adore and the fact that the baby daddy is someone brooks knows and massively dislikes.
i really loved the first book in this series. and this is definitely a different take on the surprise baby trope. leah and brooks are both really great characters, their biggest problem is that neither of them actually says what they really want and they keep putting off important conversations that they should have well until it's too late and misunderstandings arise.
they both walk around with this sense of impending doom that ends up being self-fulfilling. the good news is that they eventually get their heads on straight. but some better communication could have cut off some of the unnecessary drama. i think the drama disappointed me in part because their situation is already so fraught. having another man's baby less than six months after getting married is already high drama. i'm still not sure how i feel about that particular plot point and i'm not brooks, who for all his momentary stupidity is like the most amazing guy.
**the billionaire's unexpected baby will publish on january 15, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (indulgence) in exchange for my honest review.
I have to admit, I’m at a little bit of a loss with this book. There are some really wonderful things about The Billionaire’s Unexpected Baby, including (but not limited to) the laugh-out-loud humor and swoony men-with-babies moments. However, there were also a few things that left me feeling a little . . . unsatisfied. So, let’s get them out of the way first, shall we? It all boils down to two things—communication and timeline.
I loved that both Leah and Brooks realized the importance of TALKING to one another, but I did NOT love the fact that they didn’t actually follow through. Not during their relationship and not at the end of it. Not even, I feel I need to add, at the end of the book. For me, that means the story felt incomplete—like parts of it served no purpose because there was no pay off. Marcus’ roles in Brooks’ life and Brooks’ belief he wasn’t good enough/deserving enough are the best example. It made for somewhat frustrating reading, even as I was enjoying the HELL out of banter, the connection between Leah and Brooks, and the chance to catch up with Kiersten and Cole.
As for the timeline . . . Honestly, I never felt like I fully grasped where in the story I was. It didn’t feel linear, and the time jumps weren’t quite smooth enough to allow me to seamlessly follow this couple into each new aspect of Leah’s pregnancy. As such, it made it harder for me to believe in Brooks’ change of heart. But oh, man alive, I WANTED to believe in it. So badly, you have no idea. I loved Brooks in the first book in this series and here he was caring and sexy and swoonworthy to the nth degree. For Leah, who at times frustrated me, was likable and lovable, if imperfect, I wanted to believe in Brooks. They made a truly adorable couple, and one I wanted to see get their HEA quote desperately, TBH.
Ultimately, I closed this one with a few misgivings but an overall sense of enjoyment. Kira Archer has impressed me many times over the last couple of years, and I wanted so badly to love The Billionaire’s Unexpected Baby as much—or more—than I did 69 Million Things I Hate About You, but for now, I’ll just have to settle for LIKING it. Which isn’t so bad—is it?!
~ THREE STARS ~
I really enjoyed this book. I found the main characters fun and flirty even though I wanted to shake Leah at times. The story is laced with humor and witty banter, which I love, and it flows along beautifully. Overall it's a book I think everyone will enjoy.
Leah Andrews finds herself in quite a situation. Single and pregnant isn't really something the private school she's getting ready to start working for would look favorably on. When carefree Brooks Larson steps up and saves her job by claiming they are getting married Leah finds herself in a marriage of convenience. At least until "Baby Day". Now she just has to keep her heart out of the equation.
A recommended read.
Kira Archer’s The Billionaire’s Unexpected Baby is a lovely light read with a genuinely lovely story and great characters. There’s a touch of humour, a touch of drama, and a lot of emotion.
Characters were very well done, although I did find myself wanting to hit Brooks over the head occasionally while yelling at him to wake up. However, the fact that for 99.9% of the time he is a genuinely nice man and that his actions are the product of his own inner demons means that you can forgive him. Can I just say that I loved Harrison in this book? I can’t for him to find the woman who will turn his world of denial upside down. Perhaps the next book?
The Billionaire’s Unexpected Baby is the second book in the Winning the Billionaire series. It is a standalone and you could enjoy it without reading the first book in the series. However, the characters from the first book, 69 Million Things I Hate About You, play a major role in the story and I highly recommend starting with the first book. There is just so much back story, and little inside jokes that come from the first book that you would miss if you started with book 2.
Kira Archer’s The Billionaire’s Unexpected Baby is a delightful summer read. Once you get started, it really is quite addictive. I’d recommend it for anyone who enjoys a light romance with touches of humour.
Leah Andrews is your typical good girl, she had one uncharacteristic one-night stand before starting her job as a teacher in a Catholic High School and got pregnant.
Brooks Larson is a billionaire, partner of Cole Harrington from the first book in this series 69 Million Things I Hate About You, a consumate playboy he also has massive self-esteem issues, although I'm not sure I ever understood why he felt he was so unloveable and why he didn't deserve a wife and family.
Leah is briefly helping out her friend Kiersten, Cole's wife, with her baby and meets Brooks on a massive yacht floating around the Greek islands which Brook has hired to celebrate the christening of Cole and Kiersten's baby. Leah and Brook share an instant attraction but it goes no further than a steamy kiss, and then he walks away.
A few weeks later, Leah is moving into her rooms in the swanky school when she runs into Brooks again, the Mother Superior overhears that Leah is pregnant and is about to sack her for breaking the morality clause in her contract until Brooks says they are about to get married. So, they enter a marriage of convenience, Brooks helps Leah keep her job and Leah lends Brooks some gravitas in his work. But when the baby's father finally gets in touch it turns out to be an old enemy of Brooks.
This had a slow start and while I enjoyed the book I didn't really understand what led Brooks to feel he was so unworthy, why he thought he was such a bad choice as a husband, why he couldn't ever commit to a long-term relationship. Maybe I missed it.
This is a very focussed book, we don't see Brooks at work, we don't see Leah at work, all the action is centred around them, their feelings, talking about their feelings with their friends etc and it felt a little light-weight as a result.
I requested this book on the strength of the previous book, that had far more laugh-out-loud humour, I wouldn't really classify this book as humorous and I didn't like it as much as a result.
After discovering that she is pregnant, Leah Andrews is beside herself, she isn't certain of the father's whereabouts, or how to get a hold of him to share the unexpected news... then an unlikely hero steps in to help her in her quest to find her baby's father. When Brooks Larson comes to her aid on the yacht she is completely surprised the well known playboy wants anything to do with her considering her current predicament, but then he surprises her and shows real interest in helping her locate her child's father. Then he surprises her even more by stepping up and offering to play her hubby, and from there things just continue to get more interesting... and a whole lot hotter!!
Brooks Larson doesn't do love, strings attached anything, he fully embraces his freedom and has no interest in letting one woman tie him down... then he meets Leah and all bets are off! She is in quite the predicament, and for some reason he can't help but want to get involved, his friends try to sway his decision to get tied up in Leah's mess, but he isn't hearing any of it. He has watched them find happiness, and settle down, and now that he sees that it works, he is thinking it might just be something to consider... his friends however have their doubts and start placing their bets!!
The moment I saw that this one involved a sexy playboy billionaire and a single first time mom I was in, it is one of my favorite tropes and I have to say it did not disappoint... it was pretty freaking amazing!! These two were quite the pair, and their little journey to finding their happily ever after had lots of unexpected surprises, but little by little they found a way to deal with them head on and create something quite beautiful. There was a lot to like about this one, amazing characters with sizzling chemistry, a story line that pulled me in from the get-go, and a little added humor that put a smile on my face!! Highly recommend this one, the moment you crack the cover on it you will be hooked, and hit with a serious case of book boyfriend swoons!!
***spoilers clearly marked in one paragraph***
This book has both cursing and on-screen sex – if those things will turn you off, this probably isn't the book for you. But just know that you're going to be missing one heck of a great book. While this is technically book two of a series, you *do not* have to have read the first book to read and enjoy this one, it completely stands alone. That said, the first book introduces Brooks and the other boys, and it is hilarious and sweet and should totally be read for those reasons.
If you're sensitive to a “religious people being stereotyped as awful and judgmental” theme in books, it might seem like this one could go down that path, but IT DOES NOT. I can't say too much more without spoiling, but it is not what it seems like it could turn out to be if written differently. Ms. Archer handles the issue of Leah's pregnancy and her job with total respect and dignity.
I loved this book. I don't say that lightly: I. Loved. This. Book. Just writing this review makes me want to put my laptop down and go back to re-read it because Ms. Archer has such a gift for writing stories that bursts with both humor and heart. As I was reading, I highlighted at least twenty five things that made me laugh as I was reading or that I just thought were fabulous, that's the sign of a great book in my opinion.
Leah was fabulous, and I loved her from start to finish. Even when Brooks tried to give her the moon and spoil her rotten, she kept her feet on the ground and never took his generosity and turned into a spoiled princess. I had total faith that she could have raised the baby on her own and made a go of it because she was strong and smart. And then there's Brooks. Gosh, I loved Brooks. The phrase “swoon worthy” totally fits Brooks. As I'd hoped when I read the first book, Brooks was hilarious and sweet and when he met his match, he fell hard, even though he really didn't want to. I adored everything about him. (Side note: I totally got the Wolverine/Deadpool reference and I'm just waiting for a proposal.) SPOILER to the end of this one paragraph: I confess that I was concerned about how the Marcus situation was going to be handled and I did not see what happened coming at all - I laughed and loved it.
I also loved Brooks' relationship with his friends. I seriously would happily read a buddy comedy book with just those four idiots (said lovingly) going on adventures and making fun of each other.
If you enjoy a fake-relationship book, or just a story that will make you laugh as you fall in love with the characters, you should read this book. I highly recommend it.
This is my first read by Kira Archer and I loved her writing style. She wrote such an unique story! And the characters are amazing! The flow and timing kept me turning the page.
Brooks and Leah are great together and I loved their chemistry. Though they are in this fast paced predicament, their connection feels organic and real. A genuine connection.
This book gives you all of the feels but my favorite had to have been the laughter! I literally laughed out loud multiple times due to Brooks sense of humor and antics. He is definitely swoon worthy.
If you are looking for a funny yet sweet read, than look no further than this delightful and warm story of an unexpected love.
Just got to love entangled and there authors as they really do know how to write spectacular stories that has you coming back for more and Kira archer is one of my favourites authors by them and believe me there are quite a few of them. This book hooked me right in from the blurb and had me engrossed the whole way through and left me wanting more. Has such a fantastic storyline that you can get really into and such characters that feel like there your friends that your reading about and the romance is always off the charts and such right in my opinion and I absolutely love all of her books and stories and it’s my pleasure to recommend her as a author and her books.
When I started reading I couldn't put it down I read the book is one day.Kira is magnifysent writer.I cannot wait to read more of her books.Keep up the great work.I read all of her books.ne minute, pregnant Leah Andrews is throwing up over the side of a yacht and the next, she's married to party boy Brooks. It's an arrangement born of sheer desperation to save her job, but now the tabloids are all over them, their friends are running a pool betting on whether they'll actually stay married until Baby Day.
Let me start with saying I loved book 1 in this series 69 Million Things I Hate About You and hoped this one would be equally entertaining with a challenging romance , witty banter and a great story ......... it was SO close .
The thing here is that the 2 main characters Brooks & Leah made a great couple, they played off each other and you liked them together BUT instead of the things I listed above this story starts off really good and slowly degenerates along the way. The main thing being that she feels obligated to search out the real father and insert him into the middle of what is becoming a great romance.
The story takes a dive as soon as he shows up in my opinion and never fully recovers. She adds to it with the actions and makes everyone wonder what she is thinking (including this reader) and throw in one of my most hated plot lines of "I am not good enough for him/her" and you have a really great mess and then everybody is supposed hold hands and sing "Kumbaya" at the end.
Could have been 5 Stars so very easy with a wee bit more reality and just let Brooks be the Daddy instead of bringing in a 3rd party for some weird mental "ménage à trois" which ruined the story. I know this is fiction but this was some rainbow fantasy that did not hold up BUT since I did read it all hoping for a better ending than I got I am giving it 3 Stars instead of 4 mainly because it left me feeling cheated with the ending.
Brooks and Leah are godparents to their respective best friends new baby girl. Both are attracted to each other but Leah is pregnant from a one night stand...from another man. Brooks is surprised how that doesn't make her less attractive. Leah returns home and gets ready for her new job, a high school teacher at a Catholic school. She is glad to be moving in at the school's housing but isn't sure how to let them know she's pregnant...till Brooks shows up, talking about her pregnancy, and the head nun overhears. Instead of letting Leah get fired, Brooks states they are getting married, surprising both himself and Leah. This was a well-written book and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading!
I'll admit, I almost didn't read this ARC from Netgalley based on the name. I am not really into the billionaire stories that have become popular in the last few years.
I am glad that I gave it a chance, though, because it surprised me with humor, sweet characters, and a plot that kept me interested.
Brooks comes across as a rich playboy who is the jokester of his group of friends. However, underneath it all he is a kindhearted guy who wants to help those around him. He steps up to help Leah who is pregnant and about to lose her job because of it.
They are interested in each other, but how can they move into a real relationship when they started out in a fake one?
I do understand that for the sake of plot there were chunks of time that were not covered, but I do wish we had a little more of Brooks and Leah spending time together and getting to know each other more.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A sweet story. I like how it is the man who has to grow up and face his life instead of it being the woman who has things to deal with.
Good solid writing with an excellent story. I really liked it
This was a really sweet. I loved that it didn’t matter that she was pregnant in the beginning, he never ran, he just wanted to see what they could build. Even in the baby daddy drama, he wanted the best for her and the baby. Really sweet.
I received a copy of The Billionaire's Unexpected Baby by Kira Archer from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was intrigued by the summary and I am happy to report that the book did not disappoint. Yes, the plot was a little predictable, but it was a fun read - and a quick read - that is perfect to unwind with!
This is Leah and Brook’s story. Leah is pregnant by another man. Brook comes up with an idea to marry for Leah to keep her job. They keep dancing around their feelings. The father of her baby is a rival of Brook. Once they let each other know they love each other. It all works out in the end. I will read more books in the series.
Oh man.... where do I start? Brooks is a zillionaire with a rep, his partner Cole is supposed to be the solid one of the two. They just sealed a huge business deal and are sailing off the coast of Greece to celebrate the christening of Cole and Kiersten's baby. Leah is Kiersten's best friend and godmother, Brooks is godfather. Brooks can't take his eyes off Leah and the two of them talk. Cole already warned him off, but Kiersten was nudging her forward. Have one last good time she said, before work and other obligations took over. The last thing Brook expected as he leaned in to kiss Leah was for her to hurl over the side of the boat. Yep. But Brooks to his credit took care of her. And he couldn't even figure out why! He was smitten. Leah tells Brook she's pregnant but that doesn't seem to deter him.
When she's moving in to the on site apartment at her new teaching job Brook is there waiting for her. They have words, that are overheard by the Mother Superior and in a clinch to save her job Brook steps up and tells the Mother that they're going to be married. Leah is beside herself. Brook wants what his friends have. Meanwhile Leah hasn't heard from the baby's father and she and Brook marry.
Brook offers to help her find him. What a dumb ass move. Another face palm moment. That's two books in a row. So oh yes he finds the Dad because they aren't exactly friends and went to college together. When the bio Dad finds out Brooks and Leah are married, he's sticking his face in where I am sure he never would have. Brooks is this unborn baby's Dad. Despite the fact that they married and were now the subject of several betting pools on how long the marriage will last, Brook is really trying. And Leah is so touched by Brook and his caring. It's easy to watch him fall over that gentle love edge.
Of course there is always the hand grenade that someone lobs into the story and damn if isn't just a dandy. I'm not calling out who is an idiot and there may be more than one, but I almost flung my kindle down and wanted to choke someone. For the record, I did not like the bio Dad at all. Not even an iota. Horses backside that he was.
This is a great story and great read. Honestly going in I wasn't sure what to expect, and I love Kira but wasn't quite sure about the blurb. Don't let it derail you. It's a lot more than what you see.
Put this one on your TBR list! You'll love it. Kindle flinging and all!
*I voluntarily read this advanced copy and the above is my honest review and the opinions are mine alone.**
**Arc from NetGalley and Entangled**
I voluntary read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was anxiously awaiting this book because I had loved Brooke in the first book. This is the second in this series, and I was happy to read about how Kierstan and Cole were doing. Brooke is intrigued with Leah who is Kierstan's friend who is the babies godmother. Leah is nothing like the woman he tends to date but that is not going to stop him going after her. Leah happens to be pregnant from her one and only night stand, and to top it off starts her new teaching position at an all girls private catholic school..Brooke is hilarious, Leah I wasn't crazy about, but it is what it is..Loved previous characters having a part in book they added seasoning. all in all it was enjoyable, some part too funny. Enjoy!
