Intrigue. Betrayal. Action-packed.

Drakon’s Past is book four in the Blood of the Drakon series by N.J. Walters.

Nic, I liked him. He’s thinking about the eternal sleep and has lost interest in the world. If you have kept up with the series then you know that Nic has a very sad past and believes he was abound by the one person who is supposed to love and protect him unconditional. He’s not in a good place when Constance shows up in his life.

Constance has a gift for find unique artifacts that people leave behind. She’s also protective of her sister, her only family left, and will do anything to keep her safe.

The romance between Nic and Constance is ok. They both are attracted to each other at first meeting, but theirs too much at stack to give into that attraction. Even by the end I felt they still had things to work on before their is true love.

One of the things I really like about this series is that the women who are mates to the Drakon all have some kind of unique ability. It’s captivating to learn about these abilities.

As for the storyline it moves forward, but not by much. We do learn a bit about the Dragon Guard and get the sense their maybe more information still to come. Their’s bad guys, magic, action and mating. What I loved most about this one was the surprise we get about Nic’s past. What he thought was true, wasn’t and this knowledge sets him free and brings someone new into his life; besides Constance.

I’m curious to see where this series goes from here. Will we meet more dragon’s? More bothers fighting back against the Knights of the Dragon? Who’s in the Dragon Guard? Lots of questions and possibilities.

Drakon’s Past was another astonishing and delightful read.

Constance has a special gift for finding unique treasures and antiques, this helps her
and her sister Abigail run an internet business selling items that they have brought.
And when four statues in the shape of dragons come into their hands .... they get more than they bargained for .....

Nic is a Drakon (A Dragon shapeshifter) who is thousands of years old. (We’ve met him in previous books)
Nic is a big antique collector and searches for stolen or “lost” Drakon artifacts he’s also a recluse, he is close to the “big sleep” (that’s when a Drakon loses interest in the world and slows his body and goes “to sleep”)
And when he meets Constance, he realises that’s she’s his “fated one” he has to face the world and help her, but can he trust her ?

Constance feels there is something strange about the dragon statues and she calls an old friend to find her a buyer for the statues as quickly as possible.
But when her friend gets greedy and tries to sell to two buyers !!!! It all gets out of hand, and her sister pays the price !!!!

When Abigail gets abducted by one of the buyers (Dent) Constance has no choice but to trust Nic to help her retrieve her sister. And Nic has to trust that Constance will not turn the statues over to Dent, (the bad guy through the stories) because that would cause a big catastrophe for all Drakon's in the world. Will both be able to overcome their distrust of one another?

Just who can she trust ? Who are the bad guys and who are the good? And then there is a big secret to uncover ......

It’s part of a series, but I feel you don’t need to read them in order.
Plenty of action and a continual story (from previous books) and a well written story.

Can’t wait to read more.

Nic is the youngest of the 4 brothers, and while he seems like he's the most outgoing & carefree of the 4 in the earlier books, it's quickly clear he's really the most lost, has trust issues (even more than the other 3 which is something) and is at most at risk of deciding to go off to "Deep Sleep". Constance is smart, caring, loyal and brave. She's thrown into a terrible situation, and while there is some cracks, she manages to not only not break but shine. The story takes off and there's barely a pause from beginning to end. While the events happen quickly, the relationship between Nic & Constance doesn't feel rushed but rather organic/natural even if only a couple days has passed. Think this is my favorite of the books, I couldn't stand to put down but just had to see how things would go next instead and at the end was quite happy for the couple.

This book is the fourth in the compelling dragon shifter romance series, "Blood of the Drakons." While not the best in the series, it adds new and exciting possibilities to future books. Nic and Constance are both believable and likable, but frustratingly stubborn at times. Constance is a capable, independent and strong-willed heroine. Nic is handsome, protective, powerful and wounded. Unfortunately, Ms. Walters' characterization of Nic lacks the distinction and depth exhibited in her previous works. The villain, a carryover from the previous books, is deliciously evil. Overall, it is a rousing plot with high stakes, hot sex, and true love, culminating in a surprise twist.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Mostly vanilla M/F, relationship-based sex. About 12% of book is devoted to the explicit description of sexual activity, including four complete sex scenes. Nothing crude and no rape or abuse scenes.
VIOLENCE: The description of violent action described lacks excessive gory details, even when death is involved. There is no rape or torture.
PROFANITY: About 72 instances of profanity occur in the story. However, it blends within the storyline, such that none of the characters seem crude.
ENDING: Satisfying HEA without a cliffhanger, while leaving room for more books in the series.

This may have just been a case of unfortunate timing, but I didn't care for this one. I just read two really good contemporary romances, and thought I'd change things up with a PNR, which may have contributed to my feeling that the set up and reactions were rediculous. Further I was unaware this is the fourth book of the series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, I think perhaps it is better enjoyed after reading the others. Just couldn't capture my attention so this, one ended up being a DNF.

Nic is a drakon. Dragon shapeshifter, thousands of years old. Constance has a "gift" to recognize valuable antiques. Drawn to 4 dragon statues at an estate sale, she is plunged in to a life and death world she had no idea existed. Nic is one of 2 buyers, and the other is deadly. Erotica. Storyline started with a strong plot, intriguing premise, likable characters. It slowly devolved for me from there, and was just okay. HEA.

I hadn't read anything of N.J. Walters yet, so when I saw the cover on Netgalley, I was intrigued. Did the title have a typo? No, Nic isn't a dragon, but a drakon. Half human, half dragon. (Can you hear Hermione Granger: "it's not Leviosa, it is Levio-sar"). Well, to-may-to, to-mah-to... It's a shapeshifter to me!

And a yummie one at that. Nic is a four-thousand-year-old drakon. But he is the baby of the family. If you have read all the other three parts of the Blood of the Drakon series, you will have probably met them before. But you can read the story perfectly, without having met the total family.

Constance is a antique dealer. She buys and sells stuff from auctions, garageboxes and deceased people to earn a living, together with her younger sister Abigail. She has a special gift for finding unique treasures and artifacts. A trait she inherited from her grandfather.

One day she stumbles upon four small statues and a necklace. She feels there is something strange about them and she calls Mario an old friend and merchandiser to find her a buyer for the statues as quickly as possible. What she doesn't know is that Mario wants to up the selling price by bargaining at two different buyers at the same time. One is Nic and the other is Dent, a ruthless man who is hunting Drakon's and their artifacts.

When Abigail is being abducted by Dent, Constance his no other option that to trust Nic to help her retrieve her sister. And Nic has to trust that Constance will not turn the statues over to Dent, because that would cause a big catastrophe for all Drakon's in the world.

Will both be able to overcome their distrust of one another? Find out in this great book on dragons. Oh, excuse me, drakons. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Another amazing installment in the extremely well written series. Honestly I can't tell if the series is concluded or if a new set will branch off. I loved every page and could continue to read, th u s author knows how to keep the reader fully engaged.

I've enjoyed this series so far and the thought of drakon brothers slowly finding their love is just crazy exciting, you know? I was really looking forward to this brother, who's considered the most reclusive and the one closest to the Deep Sleep, and I like that it was set in Vegas. The whole thing started off pretty cool, and it had a scary, exciting beginning with a big 'what if' for the two mains. At some point, it started to feel just a little redundant in comparison to the other books, with the same misunderstanding of this or that, but otherwise, I thought it was pretty good.

NJ Walters has written another excellent paranormal romance. Loved it!

I am a huge fan of this author and the series so far. We finally get baby brother Nic's story. He has been intriguing from the start because we don't learn much about him in the first books. What we know is he buys and sells artifacts and antiques and lives in the desert.

This book moves the story line forward but not much. We learn a bit more about the Dragon Guard and get the sense there may be more information still to come. Nic and Constance meet because she buys some dragon artifacts and he is interested in buying them. They have some instant chemistry. The rest of the plot kind of dragged for me.

There are bad guys, explosions, magic and mating. We some of Tarrent but the other two brothers are pretty quiet. Overall, the book could stand alone without the rest of the series. Not the best of the bunch but still a good read.

Looking forward to where the story goes next. Are we going to see more Drakon's? I hope so.

I loved this book. Nothing like a handsome man that can turn into a dragon and melt all of your enemies. This book was very original, fast paced, with just enough danger to keep you on the edge of your seat. Constance is very loyal and after losing so may of her loved ones her sister means everything to her and she will do anything to protect her, even if it means betraying the man she gave her heart to. Nic has issues with abandonment and trust and watching him struggle to let go of his past is heartbreaking. But in the end love conquers all.. This is a very good book that I would recommend. I receive this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I am new to the series and it sounded like each book could stand alone so I requested it. Now I have to go read the 3 previous books. I really liked the drakon mythology. The characters were relatable and very likable. The pace was good and I rather enjoyed the author's writing style.

Drakon's Past by N. J. Walters is book is book Four in the "Blood of the Drakon" Series. This is the story of Constance and Nic. I have read most of the other previous books (and loved them) but feel this can be a standalone book. Constance grandfather taught her to buy and sell antiques and now after his passing she has kept the business going. Constance younger sister helps but Constance has a 'gift' for knowing what is good and what is not. On one of these estate sells she finds four statues and a necklace that she buys. Constance knows there is something special about them but gets a serious negative feeling from the statues. So she tries to unload them to her grandfathers friend and dealer, Mario. Mario in turns alerts Nic along with another potential buy to see about raising the bidding price. But what he does is set off the bad guys on Constance who take her sister. Nic quickly goes to Constance house but its to late...they have her sister. Nic quickly learns that its the Knights of the Dragon who has her sister and wants the statues. Nic is a drakon (half human / half dragon) who doesn't trust anyone but his brothers. But his feelings for Constance are immediate and he wants to help her more than helping himself.
Another great book by Ms. Walters!

I really liked this book, I have read the whole series and from the way this one ended I am hoping that there are going to be futures books since there are still some things up in the air and some that have not been resolved

I received a copy of Drakon's Past by N.J. Walters from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Although this was the first novel that I have read from N.J. Walters, I found the summary for this novel to be very intriguing and the world-building for the story was well executed and interesting. I liked the main characters, Constance and Nic, and I felt that they had good rapport. The plot was simple, but very well laid out and fun.

I would definitely recommend this book to friends!

I loved this book and the plot. I am a fan of Dragon Shifter books and this was my first by this author and I will surely read more from this author.

As far as romance, drakons, dragons and ancient artifacts go, this story is definitely worth reading. You have Nic, a drakon and wealthy businessman who gets a call from a dealer about some statue. He knows they are priceless and they have something to do with his kind and in the wrong hands, this being the Knights of the Dragon, then all shifters like him would be hunted and killed. What he doesn't know is that the dealer, Mario, also made the offer to another ruthless man, Dent. When the owner of the statues, Constance, comes at Nic claiming that he kidnapped her sister, Abigail, to get her to give up the statue, then he knows things could get worse. He'll walk into a trap but at what risk and why?
In the midst of all this, the author did stick to the notion of mates for ancients, and Nic discovers that Constance is his. There are people after them but then the greatest barrier is Nic's inability to trust, not just everyone but any woman due to the greatest betrayal that scarred him for life.
The author's writing style makes for an easy read. The action fast tracked the story making it an enjoyable read in one sitting. The author also threw in a twist to Nic' story towards the end that I did not see coming, I relished it.
I know there are other drakons who are like brothers to Nic and inasmuch as I would love to read their story, I would love to read Oscar's story more. I wonder what kind of bind he's be in to call Nic and the other Drakons for help, now that would be a story! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and all the thoughts and opinions are mine. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is into romance.
