What an absolutely wonderful book! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to broaden their knowledge and learn more about other types of healing
This is an embarassingly inauthentic treatment of the spiritual and philosophical approaches pertinent to one of the few remaining indigenous cultures in America. There are authentic sources available in Hawai'i - writers, performers, artists, folk practitioners - even local tour guides. They are deeply familiar with the healing forces in the environment and are grounded in the aina (love of the land) of the islands. Many are willing to share - look to them, nana i ke kumu.
Very interesting book about Hawaiian culture. Highly recommend to people who like Eastern medicine.
Hawaiian Shamanistic Healing
Medicine Ways to Cultivate the Aloha Spirit
by Wayne Kealohi Powell, Patricia Lynn Miller
A fundamental guide to the ideas of spiritual healing, showing the methods and ideas that accumulate from different practices of shamanistic practices. Using the modern language to explain fundamental practices that show the interrelationships of cultures. The idea ‘ohana family being the fundamental view of the world, with the three levels, and the spiral patterns showing how to heal and find illness and distress in the human spirit, body, mind, and soul. This book looks at these specific cultural views, and explains them in a universal language relating them to other mystical practices in the process. It’s a lot more about getting your house together before you heal others, and looking for ways to change your outlook on life and its repetitive rhythms and patterns. With brief explanations of culture, language and herbology, and use of cultural plants and ideas in healing practices. Something i will have to look into deeply to understand despite the use of modern language and easy explanations.
This book is full of information and provides many practical exercises on Hawaiian Shamanism. Not really something I would normally read, I found it quite easy going - in a textbook way! Hawaiian language is woven through so you gradually become connected with the culture.
If you're into healing books, this is one that would most probably benefit you.
This book is brimming with information and practical exercises on Hawaiian Shamanism. It is an easy read even though it is quite text book like. You are constantly given the Hawaiian words for everything which helps you to really feel the culture. Without this it could be shamanism from anywhere. It is a gentle. loving approach and lots of the exercises can be tried by anyone. Overall a lovely. useful book
