Corey's driving home from work when the biggest deer he's ever seen jumps in front of his truck. He hits the deer and is pretty sure he killed it, so he decides to bring it home for the meat. Except, when he gets home there's a man in place of the deer; a man Corey is having trouble taking his eyes off of. Of course, that attraction might just get them both killed.
Dubious consent appears to be a running theme for this series. Normally I would have a big issue with that, however Snow does a good job of showing that the lack of consent goes both ways. The mating urge overtook both Corey and Dare and the graphic sex that ensued was neither of their faults. Still, it was definitely right on the edge of making me very uncomfortable.
What really disappointed me in this book was the lack of detail. I get that it was set up as a short holiday story, but the reader is only given hints of vampires, fae, deer shifters, and an entire magical community somewhere out there. Corey is new to the community and his trying to figure out his place in it is central to his character, and yet all of that was completely glossed over. Instead, the reader is treated to yet another round of graphic sex. I don't mind sex when it's well written, but it didn't actually add all that much of substance to this story. If you take out all the sex scenes, you're left with maybe ten pages of actual plot, and that just wasn't enough to carry the book.
This is one of those books I just wish was longer! I wanted to know more about the characters and their lives. Overall a great quick read. I read it several times!
Shiver is the second in the Texas Paranormals series. It had an interesting twist on shifters. By interesting there was a deer shifter named Dare Buckley. Yep, a deer. And then there was Corey who had been thrust into the world of paranormal just recently. It was an interesting concept and I had to go look up some behavior about deer because I had to know if what was stated was true. It took me awhile to find it but there’s vague mentions to it. You’ll understand when you see it.
I wish there had been more. I felt like there was a lot that could have been explained that would have benefited the story-line. The romance was hot, the characters were gorgeous and the story line made me want more.
All in all it was a good read. I’ll probably be looking for more by Christi Snow.

An interesting and unique paranormal gay romance loved that the writer used a different type of animal for the shape shifter!
I was expecting a good paranormal shifter romance but was left feeling cheated. It wasn't terrible but the short length left a lot to be desired.
I personally think that you have to throw all thoughts on how things are supposed to be out the window when you read a paranormal story. All of these worlds have their own rules and you just have to let them unfold for you as you go along. And Snow’s Texas Paranormals is no different. But that doesn’t mean that just because her world is not like ours that it isn’t interesting and fun.
Shiver is a novella so the time frame is compacted but because it involves weres there can be a good reason for the speed in which Corey and Dare get involved. And while it is short it never felt rushed – instead Snow gives us an interesting world, appealing characters, and a satisfying story. I really appreciated that because of its shorter length there was very little time for drama. Instead we get an introduction to our two characters, details of their pasts, and a whole lot of the sexy before we get an enjoyable resolution to Dare’s medical issue (complete with a HEA).
(This is the first in the series that I’ve read but I don’t think it mattered. It seemed to me that Snow does a great job of filling you in on what happened as it applied to Corey.)
This is cute, Super cute deer shifter insta love in the holiday's novella. I loved their meet-cute. Corey and Dare were sweet without adding layers of cheese, they rocked the bed sheets and I'm glad they found their happy.I also loved the usualness of the deer shifter element!
If the author is knocking these cute novellas out she's one to keep an eye on. It was perfectly answered and formed for a novella.
3 Stars.
