My first experience of Lisa Regan, and it definitely will not be the last. I was gripped by this, horrified, upset and angry, and desperate for the perpetrator to be caught!
Lisa Regan is a favorite of mine. Vanishing Girls is the first book in the Josie Quinn series. This books is complex and will keep you turning page after page. It took me until almost the en of the book to finally figure out who actually "done it".
Can not wait to start The Girl With No Name.
Very fast paced and very intriguing. I enjoyed how it kept me hooked and it was an original story. Nowadays so many books read the same. Highly recommend
VANISHING GIRLS is book 1 in a new crime series featuring Detective Josie Quinn by author Lisa Regan. This is the first book I have read by this author, and it won’t be the last. Having enjoyed this book, I am anxious to start book 2 in the series, “The Girl With No Name”, and can’t wait to read more about Detective Josie Quinn and see where the journey takes me.
The novel opens with Detective Josie Quinn with the Denton, Pa., police department on suspension from her previous case for misconduct, and when her boss refuses to bring her back when a teenager goes missing, she starts her own investigation.
Josie has been harassing her soon to be ex-husband Ray, also a detective, and her new fiancée, Luke, a State Police Officer for more information on the case. They tell her to stay away…but she is one strong-willed female that can’t walk away…and does things her own way!
She was close enough to see that the girl had written a word on the wall in bright, warm red blood. Not a word, actually. A name…
Everyone in the small American town of Denton is searching for Isabelle Coleman, a missing seventeen-year-old girl. All they’ve found so far is her phone and another girl they didn’t even know was missing.
Mute and completely unresponsive to the world around her, it’s clear this mysterious girl has been damaged beyond repair. All Detective Josie Quinn can get from her is a name: Ramona.
Josie takes matters into her own hands as the name leads her to evidence linking the two girls. She knows the race is on to find Isabelle alive, and she fears there may be others…
The trail leads Josie to another victim, a girl who escaped but whose case was labelled a hoax by authorities. To catch this monster, Josie must confront her own nightmares and follow her instinct to the darkest of places. But can she make it out alive?
This is a well-written story that starts off a little slow but quickly gains momentum and becomes an exciting read. I enjoyed following the story line, the setting in a small town, the police procedural investigation, the interaction of the characters, and Josie’s love interest.
This is a new crime thriller series that shows a promising future. I look forward to getting to know Josie better in the next book from this series.
Many thanks to Bookouture via Netgalley for my copy.
This is the first time I’ve read a book by Lisa Regan and I’ve definitely got the bug! Vanishing girls is a page turning thriller, set around a suspended police woman, Josie Quinn and the mysterious disappearance of a local girl. I won’t ruin the story as there are surprises on every page but I loved the book and have already pre-ordered the next in the series!
Thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture for allowing me to read and review this book.
Apologies, I requested this book in error believing it to be set in the UK. On discovering it is a US setting I chose not to continue reading because I don't understand American legal procedures
When Isabelle Coleman, a pretty young teenager, vanishes into thin air everyone is looking for her. the whole town is involved in the search. But Detective Josie Quinn wants to know what about the others? There have been other disappearance ans attacks that no one seems to have noticed or be interested in. Add to this a new fiance, an ex husband, both in the police force, and her own traumatic past and you have an intriguing story. I loved this story and cant wait to read more from Lisa Regan.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Josie Quinn was a detective. It helped her forget her early years. It helped her channel her feelings. It gave her a purpose. So when she is suspended from duty and a young girl goes missing she wants to be where the action is. The police department are short staffed, they need her, so why does she feel she is being sidelined?
Determined to investigate this herself she is further frustrated when she discovers a traumatised young girl with a link to the one who disappeared and no-one seems to want to know. Nothing is going to stop Josie from getting the answers she needs if it is the last thing she does.
This is a fast moving, action packed story - not for the faint hearted as there are some pretty gruelling bits in it. It is extremely readable and keeps the reader hooked. I really enjoyed it & look forward to reading more of Josie Quinn. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

4 stars.
This book was a hard one to give a star rating too. Most of it was between 3 to 3.5 stars. It was quite good in parts but attention kept waving but only a little. Plus I was put off with all the sex talk in parts so that's what dropped it down to 3 stars. But given the last approx 25%, this book is clearly worth 4 stars. Most crime type books such as this have all the mystery right up to the big grand finale where the mystery is finally reviled. But with this story you get most of that happening before the last chapter and then the final parts are dropped into place right up until the end. This is what made it quite an impressive read. It made it quite strong and I can not wait for the second in this series. Josie Quinn is most defiantly a character I really enjoyed reading about. This is my 3rd book from this author, Lisa Regan and it certainty wont be my last.
When 17 year old Isabelle Coleman goes missing in Denton the whole town goes out to search for her but all they find is her phone and they discover a girl who they weren't aware was even missing. Josie doesn't let the fact that she is suspended from the force stop her from creating her own investigation and she finds the link between the two missing girls but can she catch the killer and make it out alive??
Absolutely addictive start to new this new series absolutely loved Josie's strong character and can't wait for #2
Thank you very much to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read and review Vanishing Girls in return for an honest review.
Vanishing Girls by Lisa Regan, was a great introduction to a new female detective series - Detective Josie Quinn. Set in middle America (or one can assume, I'm Australian - forgive me!) a young blonde late teen has gone missing, presumed abducted. The town is on high alert and our Josie Quinn is currently on suspension after an assault incident, losing her mind sitting at home twiddling her thumbs. Josie is caught between wanting to help with the investigation and being the subject of an internal investigation. However when a shooting involving another missing girl's uncle has her directly involved, Josie begins her own covert inquiries.
This novel has everything you want from a mystery/ thriller. High octane investigations, love triangles, sadistic serial killers.. need I say more? Some of what is uncovered was truly shocking, but a really good thriller if you are into that sort of thing!
Thanks to netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Vanishing Girls is the first instalment in a new Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan - I found this book Just Brilliant.
If you want a Detective that has guts, determination but has faults Detective Josie Quinn is for you. This book starts with Josie who has been suspended from her job for an incident she was blamed for. Her chef wont let her go near the case so she starts to look into it herself by making her enquiries. Josie gets caught in something which may have dangerous consequence for those who are close to her. But she is determined to see it through. The ending had me gripped to my seat. This book was so gripping and face pace. It won't be the last book I read from Lisa Regan I just loved it.
Big Thank you Netgalley for letting me read Vanishing Girls for a honest review.
Big 5 stars from me.
I FREAKIN LOVED IT!!
Lisa, I have to apologise for my loopy #TweetReading but it was needed! From start to finish it took me 48 hours, I’m a mother of 2 so my sleep is precious to me but not with this book! Two nights of 2am bedtimes and I closed the book with my jaw dropped for a good half hour! There we so many twists, turns and total plot shocks I was simply hooked….. line and sinker!
Josie Quinn is my type of woman, screw the rules if it gets the job done! She’s a total hard arse when it comes to the job so I enjoyed seeing her vunrable side, when she let it show. Her ex husband, oh I had a few choice words for him once things can to light, I both loved and hated him. Loved him for showing he cared about Josie but also hated him for, well, no spoilers! I will say I did have a couple of teary moments, and I wasn’ expecting that with this book.
If you love your thrillrs fast paced, detailed and at times a lot bit gruesome then this is definitely a book for you to buy. I loved the ending, I wasn’t expecting everything to be fully wrapped up with a bow on top (i thought some things were going to be kept for book 2) but im glad Lisa did tie off all the loose ends.
An absolute epic read and very worthy of my 5 golden apples! I can’t wait to see what book 2 brings and any other books that she writes, I’m truly a fan from the very beginning!!
I received a free ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. I love reading novels with strong female characters and Detective Josie Quinn is just that! A girl is abducted in smalll town Pennsylvania. Shortly after, a girl who was 5kught to be a runaway is found locked up in the home of a know pedophile. Josie begins to piece together evidence which may prove that these girls wer kidnapped by the same man. When reading this book, I thought it was a part of a series because it kept referencing a previous incident which caused Josie to be put on a paid suspension. But when I searched, I found out this was the first book in the series. I also found it interesting when Josie does something good off duty, her suspension just goes away. The author seemed to be grasping a bit when it came to her knowledge of police work. Overall, it was an engaging read and I would recommend it,
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. A gritty thriller that will have you hooked from the beginning. First book I have read from this author and here is hoping that there will be a second book about Detective Josie Quinn
This is an intense read from the beginning until the end. The story is fast pacing, pack full of action and nothing short of angry emotional outburst (which in my case, I think it’s too much).
The story and plot
It started with a missing girl that’s been abducted from her backyard. No particular date or time frame was introduced here. And then, there’s another girl missing and the whole town is looking for her. Isabelle Coleman just vanished into thin air. Detective Josie Quinn is on suspension and she’s itching to pursue the case. Everybody keeps saying that she should lay back and don’t meddle with their job. But somehow she kept stumbling into one clue after another clue. Started with the name “Ramona” whispered from a crash victim.
I like the story from the beginning. It’s intense and getting darker as I progressed through the book. By 50% of the book, the story is getting darker. By 75%, things begin to unravel and the plot started to twist. At first, it seems that Josie is getting nowhere. She keeps banging against the wall with everybody keep telling her that she’s crazy. But as the book progressed, it revealed that her instinct was right. There was some nasty business behind all the young girl disappearance.
This is the first book that I read that has so many dead from the good guys side. How is it even possible? It is possible indeed! That’s the twist right there. And then, some people that you thought are supposed to be good, a.k.a the police are crooked as hell. I never see that coming.
The characters
Josie Quinn is one angry woman that is ready to take on the world with her strong headed attitude. So many anger in one book, just makes me a bit emotional by reading her character. At one point, it’s good. But it’s kind of disturbing to read a character that has so much emotion from angry to sad in one reading. Reading her character, it looks like an unbalanced character. However, I feel that her character is quite true. She’s been gone through divorce, bad childhood. Obviously, the normal human being could react like she did. I like that she’s only sad in the right places, not weepy all the time.
I love the grandma character. Silent but strong. Someone quite funky for a grandma. I want to see more the story of Noah Fraley and Luke. Wondering how the relationship between Luke and Josie in the next book. Will they get married ? or just hanging there ?
Recommend this book for those who love intense reading with full pack action from beginning until the end. Sure as well recommended for those who love a strong female character and when the read is getting darker as you progressed till the end.
Sorry with my delayed review!!!
I really really enjoyed this book. The only reason I am giving 4 and not 5 stars, is because I initially found it slow to get really going, but once it did, it blew my socks off!
Once again i hesitate how to start a review. Usually i know exactly how i feel about the stories i read, but sometimes it's not that simple.
Vanishing Girls left me with mixed feelings. The first half of it i felt almot bored, although the story had many twists and revelations and its fair share of deranged characters and horrible truths.
The whole first half of the book i was thinking only 2 stars for the book.
Then came a rather interesting twist about what was happening in the town of Denton, that was kind of surprising as i did not expect something that big and that raised the rating of the book for me.
I guess my main issue was with the characters, there was something about the story that made them seem fake, and some times annoying and not in a good way. And i did not like Detective Josie Quinn at all from the beginning.
The story was also rather interesting but it did not surprise me or catch my attention fully.
I really don't mean to be harsh towards any book, but this is the end of the road for me with Detective Quinn.
Vanishing Girls by Lisa Regan is the 1st in the Detective Josie Quinn series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis:
Josie Quinn is on suspension for alleged use of excessive force. She’s feeling a little angst. She wants to be on the job, especially with a young girl missing. She wants to help. Her chief won't allow it.
Investigating on her own time, while using both her soon-to-be ex-husband and her future fiancé as information providers, Josie is not only jeopardizing her own job, but both of theirs as well. But Josie doesn’t really care. She thinks that this is more than an abduction, more than one missing girl. She is afraid that there may be a serial abductor/killer on the loose, and as she delves deeper, Josie finds herself in a difficult position. She thinks someone in the police force has been covering up. This is becoming even bigger than she realized. Suddenly she doesn’t know who she can trust.
Josie's personal life is a bit of a mess. She has already accepted an engagement ring from Luke, but Ray has not yet signed the divorce papers. Ray has been in her life since they were kids, and neither one of them is handling the separation well, although Josie knows it is the right thing to do.
My Views:
I didn’t particularly like Josie Quinn initially. I definitely do not like the way she handled her personal life. I still don't. I thought the author was creating one more flawed detective with total disregard to the rules. But Josie is not really flawed. She had a rough upbringing, but with her support system, she is actually level-headed. She is just very passionate about her job. Lisa Regan created a very strong female detective, and gave her the depth needed to seem real. I am not a romance reader, but I did not feel that Josie’s love life interfered with the story, as it seemed to be an integral part of the plot. Regan put some real thought into the supporting characters, and it all worked. I really loved her Grandmother. The plot, although a little dark, was handled very well, and moved along very quickly with great twists, and a few surprises.
Looking forward to the next Josie Quinn book!
I received a copy of Vanishing Girls from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review....
Vanishing Girls was an unexpected hit in my book. I have been going through a minor NetGalley slump with my last few approved requests ending to be rather mediocre. But Vanishing Girls was a story that I just devoured.
First, I think the premise sounds a bit familiar. But I was pleasantly surprised by the story being less predictive that I was expecting. There were a few shocking discoveries that I had not seen coming, which is most excellent!
I had an interesting relationship with the protagonist and narrator, Josie Quinn. On the one hand, I found that she was a rebel of sorts, which can be fun. Even while being suspended from the squad, she would do whatever she wanted to get to the bottom of a missing girl case. Even after being warned, she took matters into her own hand. While I admired her tenacity, I just wanted to yell at her, "Why can't you just fricken do what you asked? You're a damn cop after!" But her persistence resulted in quite the unexpected scandal. I refuse to dive deeper, it would be criminal to give anything away.
The story and content is a bit dark. This story could be a trigger for some. So I will offer you a fair and advanced warning. But I think if you can stomach the awful, you will enjoy the story.
