I enjoyed this story though it took a few pages to get into it. Cricket is a likable character whose father has died. Her mother ran off and suffers from mental illness but loves Cricket very much. Cricket regrets her last word to her mama before mama left and decides to solve the mystery of the bird room her mama always told her about. Cricket manages to befriend a real cricket, forage in the woods for food after raccoons ate lal her food, and survives a snake bite thanks to an older woman who is connected to the bird room. Fans of three Times Lucky may enjoy this story because the Mo and Cricket are similar, but the mysteries are very different.
