What a wonderful read! This book had romance, friendship, family, emotion, and tons of heart… and is one of my favorite reads this year!
There were so many things to love in this book. Jason was everything you want in a man – he’s wealthy and good looking, but also down to earth, thoughtful, and just a nice guy. Rachel is so giving and compassionate, but she’s also smart, driven, and committed to doing what’s right and keeping her promises. Jason and Rachel fit together perfectly…except for that one little issue of him being her boss! Jason knows he has found someone special in Rachel and isn’t about to let the fact that she works for him stand in the way of trying to win her heart. Rachel knows that a workplace romance can jeopardize her career, but trying to resist Jason proves to be impossible – and once she decides to give a relationship a chance, I love that she was all-in and committed to making it work.
In addition to Jason and Rachel’s relationship, I really loved Owen in this book. He’s a typical 15 year old boy and the author did a fabulous job keeping his character real. Watching Rachel and Owen together made me smile – they both were still grieving and I loved how they supported one another. And it was wonderful to see the trust and bond form between Jason and Owen. The bit of drama that unfolds with Owen added an additional dynamic to the story that I think worked well with the romance.
The supporting characters in the book were important parts of Jason and Rachel’s story. From the tight family bond that Jason shares with his brothers and their wives, to the tension between Rachel and Owen with Owen’s father’s family, all of these sub-plots that surrounded the romance were well done and important to both Jason and Rachel individually and as a couple.
This is the first book by Catherine Bybee that I have read and it will definitely not be my last. She has a wonderful writing style that is easy to read but full of emotion. This one definitely belongs on any romance lovers shelf!
The last book in the Not Quite series, Rachel and Jason's story takes on a slightly different tone from her previous books. As always, Bybee brings the comedy and she is able to write humor into her stories seamlessly. The chemistry between the couple is instantly obvious and never forced. What I really liked about this story is that the obstacles that the couple faces are not large disasters or secrets they are trying to keep, they are just their lives getting in the way of something they both want. The story feels real and remains engaging throughout. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a great story full of emotion and humor and of course love.
Not Quite Crazy is the sixth book in the Not Quite series and I have loved each one of these stories. This was another great addition to an amazing read with characters that I absolutely loved and storylines that captivated me from start to finish. I really love reading slow burn stories and Catherine Bybee did a great job with this one.
The Not Quite series has been one of my favorites of Catherine Bybee's from the moment I picked up the first one five years ago - and it is so bittersweet for me to see it come to an end.
In book six, Rachel has moved to the east coast to bring the son of her best friend closer to his paternal family. While Owen and Rachel both struggle with the grief of losing Emily, they are setting out on a new adventure together, and Rachel will do anything and everything to keep Owen with her. Though Owens paternal family had little interest in being part of his life prior to Emily's death, they have a strong desire to bring him into the fold.
Not Quite Crazy is a beautiful story of love. The love and support that Jason and Rachel share is hot, tender, supportive. But it is also a story of love between friends. The bonds of sisters of the heart, the love between a mother and child, even when the child is a teen when she steps into that role. Her responsibility to Owen is NOT to get him to adulthood, but for life. And the bond is mutual. Rachel was there for his mom, and him, and there is a love and trust between them that can't be broken. The relationship between Owen and Rachel is written so beautifully as they learn to navigate life without one of the most important people in both of their lives.
At the same time, Rachel is trying damn hard to stay away from Jason, but they too can't deny the feelings between them, and the support they provide as each is tested is powerful. The connection is between these three characters, and truly, this is not only a love story between Jason and Rachel, its a story of the importance of family, no matter how they come together. This was a fitting end to a spectacular series.
I love this series. This is the last book in the Not Quite series and it's a little sad to see it end. Don't let the word "series" worry you. This is a complete stand-alone and you do not need to have read the other books to thoroughly enjoy this one. The series is a just an interconnection of stand-alones featuring a different one in the Fairchild family and their friends. The main theme that runs through this book is family. Not just blood family, but the strong bond and love of the family you create. The chemistry is strong between Jason and Rachel, the moments are sweet and the sexy times are hot. Rachel is a strong woman and Jason is very sweet and swoon-worthy. What I really liked is that Rachel's acquired son is as much of a main character in this book as Jason and Rachel. This is a very heart-warming, and at times gut wrenching, book. If you love a good family story then this book is definitely worth checking out.
An awesome read that I could not put down. I love the Fairchild family. Rachel Price did the ultimate for her dying best friend, to raise her son. Rachel Price has moved across country with Owen to be closer to his grandparents. Rachel has started a new job and has no time for romance. Jason Fairchild the CEO of the family business, has had no time or desire to date until he meets Rachel on a snowy night. Sparks fly but Rachel has one rule, no dating the boss, but rules can be broken, YES!
Loved this story, it will bring plenty of laughter and tears throughout. This story stresses the love of family and friends. Great chemistry between Rachel and Jason, makes my heart swell. I have thoroughly loved this series, it's sad to say goodbye to the Fairchilds. I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the books in the series.
4.5 Stars!
Author Catherine Bybee is quite a remarkable storyteller. Not Quite Crazy, the sixth and last book from her Not Quite series, is an awesome standalone novel. I read it from cover to cover in a just couple of days, because I could not put it down.
This is the love story between Rachel Price, a marketing guru, and TJ Fairchild, the CEO of a private jet company. Rachel has recently relocated from California to a suburb of New York City, when she experiences her first drive in a snowstorm. She ends up rescuing TJ from a ditch, not knowing that he is actually her boss's boss. They hit it off almost immediately, but are reluctant to pursue a relationship because of their job situation.
Rachel is the legal guardian of her late best friend's 15 year-old son, and his hoity-toity paternal grandparents cause them tremendous grief and turmoil. Even though TJ has a lot going on with the business, including a lawsuit that has the potential to cripple his family's company, he never leaves Rachel's side during an especially life-changing situation.
Overall, this is a well-written story with interesting characters, manipulating grandparents, and a sexy couple that is hot both in and out of the bedroom. Rachel and TJ are smart, easy to identify with, and their connection is sizzling. Their happily ever after will leave a huge smile on your face.

I didn’t realize I was to shed tears while reading this. Nobody told me I’d be crying little tears out of my heart reading this funny and sexy romance! Do I regret? Hell no. Because they were happy tears, the kind that only a really good romance can make happen.
After having read the Acknowledgments page at the end, I realized that I read the ending of this series first. Now I have to go back and enjoy the whole thing from the very beginning, knowing Jason will have a great ending with Rachel and Owen when it’s his turn.
The sort of office romance in this book was what got my attention in the first place, but things got deeper real quick. Rachel was a sort of single parent for once. She was responsible for her deceased best friend’s teenaged son. If that’s not baggage for a relationship, I don’t know what is. And Jason, he’s the oldest of his siblings, the one who stepped up to the plate after their parents’ sudden death. He was a responsible adult who took his job seriously, but also very playful and not at all hiding the fact. Charming to a fault. And, of course, let’s not forget that Jason is Rachel’s boss, and we got ourselves a romance that defines complicated.
I liked that the book touched issues like custody battles or office relationships, lightly but never not seriously. The romance happened among all these problems, and Rachel and Jason had to jump through some tough loops to find their way to each other. And the author took each problem clearly very seriously, and that made a solid read with a lot of emotion. I wasn’t kidding when I said I shed tears. It’s not always the case when it comes to emotional reads, but sometimes they either struck a chord, or, as was the case here, written in a way that touch my heart.
I cannot wait to go back to the beginning and read this family from book one.
I’m adding four spoonfuls of this story into my hodgepodge.
This was one of those books that I loved completely, from the very beginning. I just adored everything about it and couldn’t wait to see how Rachel and Jason’s story played out, yet didn’t want it to be over at the same time. I loved Rachel and Jason’s meet cute. I thought the way Catherine brought them together was clever.
Rachel is adjusting to a new life. And snow isn't exactly her friend. She has had a lot of life changes in the recent year and she's making the best choices she can. Jason A man wasn't on her radar and certainly not the handsome, sweet man that she encounters. While she's trying to avoid getting into a relationship, Jason keeps knocking down her defenses. He's so swoony and I loved him! Jason is a simple guy. Sure, he has a great life now, but it hasn't always been that way. He wants Rachel to know him as "just Jason" and he works hard to make her forget who he is.
Situations arose that had these two working together and they did it well. They had quite the unexpected, eventful work situation that they didn't anticipate but in the end caused other problems. But they were there for each other. I don't want to ruin any of this story, which is why I'm so vague. But I enjoyed the light Rachel brought to Jason’s world and their relationship. This was an all-around great read! Get ready for the feels!
**I rec'd and early copy in exchange for an honest review**
Not Quite Crazy is the sixth and final installment in Catherine Bybee's Not Quite series and as usual Bybee doesn't disappoint! I have liked the other books in this series, but there was something about this one that had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't put it down.
Rachel Price's life changes forever when she takes in her best friend's son after her death. To attempt to keep the peace, she along w/ Owen move from California to the East Coast to be closer to his grandparents. She's also secured a job in Manhattan. It's quite an adjustment for both as they contend with the move, the Owen's grandparents, and the new job. But the biggest adjustment just may be the the cold snowy New York winter!
Jason Fairchild is the oldest of the Fairchild siblings and the CEO of their charter plane company. Jason's focus has always been on work and making sure that he keeps the empire his parents built together following their deaths. He hasn't settled down like his brothers yet despite his sisters-in-laws meddling.
One night on the way home from work, Jason ends up in a ditch after sliding off the road while trying to pass a car going too slow on the snowy roads. Rachel comes to his aide not knowing that he's her new boss! Jason is instantly captivated by her. Little do they know that this accident will change the rest of their lives.
As the sparks fly, it comes to light that Rachel actually works for his company. With this information in the open, they must decide if they should continue to peruse each other on a personal level or keep things strictly professional.
I have loved all of the books throughout the entire Not Quite Series! Bybee creates wonderful characters, stories, and romances! Its been a wonderful journey and as sad as I am to see this series end, I'm just as excited to see what Bybee has in store for the future!!
Great, fun, sexy read. Can be read as a standalone as last book in this series but first read for me in this series.
Rachel Price moves from the sun of the west coast to the snow of the east coast to appease relatives of the Owen whom she has been appointed guardian. Rachel's main concerns : Owen and providing for his well-being, a promise she made to her dear friend Emily. But a snowy road, a chance encounter with a stranger causes much changes and worries especially when the stranger turns out to be your BOSS
Unanticipated events leads to chaos as what was a worry is now insignificant.
Fun Fact: Catherine Bybee is the first author I found via my fancy new Kindle circa 2012.
Since then I have upgraded Kindles (twice) but my love for the fun and pretty worlds Ms. Bybee creates has endured. It has been a little while since I read the previous books in the Not Quite Series so I couldn’t quite remember all the details. That wasn’t a problem with Not Quite Crazy! It stands completely on its own and I was quickly re-introduced to the dreamy and wealthy Fairchild brothers.
Jason Fairchild, CEO of a private jet company gets stuck in a ditch on a snowy night. Recent California transplant Rachel Price fishes him out.
Right from the beginning Rachel and Jason have an easy chemistry and witty dialogue. I instantly related to Rachel’s do-it-yourself independent streak. Jason is a nice guy. I know that sounds boring but I promise he’s not. I think nice heroes are completely underrated in modern romance novels. Jason is strong, responsible, and deeply caring. The total package. The problem? He is the CEO at Rachel’s new job.
One issue that did give me pause is how persistent Jason was after Rachel (very logically) told him she could not date her boss. At the end of the day, that’s not the biggest problem Jason and Rachel face as a couple but it did worry me as a reader.
My absolute favorite aspect of this romance (besides Jason’s perfect one-liners, the man had gilded tongue *badum tish*) was how rock solid Jason and Rachel were as a couple. No spoilers but, they endured events that would shake the foundations of established marriages when they had only been dating for weeks. They were both ready for love even if one of them wasn’t completely aware of it (looking at you Rach). By the time the of the HEA I was grinning like a looney tune. This whole book centered around the family you choose which always makes me a little weepy.
Upon reflection, at the backbone of this story is a beautiful female friendship. Now excuse me while I go call my best friend and tell her I love her.
I have been a Bybee fan for a long time. From her Weekday Brides series to her Not Quite series so when I got my hands on the sixth book in the Not Quite series I just about lost my mind, I am a fan a big fan.
Not Quite Crazy is oh so perfect. I love a good female protagonist, I really enjoy females being portrayed in a different light, showing that women are made of light and shadow, strong but soft, crazy but calm, passionate but level headed and Rachel Price is everything a woman should aspire to be. Loyal and driven she has moved her entire life from California to New York and the weather isn't the only change that Rachel is dealing with.
Enter Jason Fairchild the eldest of the Fairchild brothers, the man who does not date, the CEO, the enigma and he is about to be knocked right off his feet. It just so happens that Rachel is knocking him off his feet and he's her boss, which for Rachel is a no go. But what do you do when the guy is chiseled from head to toe, charismatic and well irresistible.
The story features emotion, challenge and loss, and a stark reminder that complicated usually leads to adventure. This isn't your average man meets woman, this isn't your average love story. I cried, I laughed and I related. I delved into Rachel's world and I lost track of time, three hours later and I was finished, where does time go when you read?
Another must read from Bybee.
The last Fairchild has fallen and so will you!
Rachel Price is a new transplant in New York City from California. Even thou she’s living in Connecticut, Rachel commutes by car to Manhattan. She’s never felt comfortable with the idea of riding the train or subway. Coming home in a mini blizzard and driving at 10 miles an hour, another car tries to pass her and ends up in the ditch. Figuring she was the cause of the accident, Rachel goes to check on the driver..
Jason Fairchild can’t believe his good luck when a beautiful woman comes to his rescue. Feeling guilty, Rachel offers him a ride to her house, where a friend will pick him up. There is an instant spark, but that fizzles out when Rachel finds out that Jason is her boss and owner of the company she works for. As much as Jason wants to date her, Rachel is staying strong and refuses to go out with him. This of course makes Jason more determined. He has never felt this chemistry with another woman, and he’s not about to give up. He will just have to wear her down.
I give this book 5 stars. The storyline between Rachel and Jason was a great read. I whole heartedly recommend this book. Rachel recently moved with Owen her best friends son and work at Fairchild Charter. Jason is her CEO boss. This is the 6th book in the Not Quite series. Catherine Bybee is an amazing Author. They meet when Rachel helps him during a snow storm. I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is a truly awesome book! It's packed full of emotion, humor, and love. Love of family, love of friends, and love of a good man. It's exceptionally written and these characters will steal your heart right from the very first page.
After the death of her best friend, Rachel Price finds herself in a new city, at a new job, and trying her best to raise a 15 year old boy. All this leaves little time for a personal life! Jason Fairchild is the busy CEO of his family's business. He has no time for fun or dating much less love. Yet when Rachel literally runs into Jason he knows the spark the flares between them is something worth going for. When it turns out Rachel is a new employee at his company things get a bit more challenging. One hard rule Rachel has is no dating the boss! Jason isn't willing to take no for an answer and goes to work convincing her to give them a chance.
You don't want to miss this one! I highly recommend it.
This book made giddy with happiness! I loved everything about it! No dealing with other women trying to ruin their relationship. There was drama but nothing unnecessary to the story. It was a slow burn love that started with an instant attraction. It was a bit of a fairytale love story but still very realistic.
I really shouldn't be surprised. I have loved everything I have read by Catherine Bybee and I don't know why I haven't binge read all of her books. Trust me, that is going to be something I fix and soon because I need more books like this in my life!
Rachel has packed up her life and moved to Manhattan with custody of her best friends 15 year old son. She's known Emily and Owen for ten years and when they found out Emily had cancer, there was no question that Rachel would be Owens guardian.
In an effort to appease Owens paternal grandparents, who have never shown interest in their grandson until his mother died, they moved from California to be closer to them as they get to know each other.
Driving in her first snow fall, Rachel inadvertently runs Jason into a ditch. Rachel invites Jason home with her while he waits for a tow and the sparks are instantaneous. What Rachel doesn't know is that Jason is the owner of Fairchild Charters where she was just hired in their marketing department.
Everything about these two was a treat to read about. I loved how they met. How Owen reacted when Rachel brought a stranger home, to how Jason inserted himself into their lives.
Jason was charming and a true gentlemen. Rachel was a caring and intelligent heroine. Owen brought an extra level to the story showing how Jason stepped up when both of them needed him. A truly great read! ARC provided by NetGalley.
It's always a challenge to dive into an already established series. The abundance of previous characters dumped on the reader early in the story didn't help. The constant reminders of Trent being Mr. Rich who can dump money on a problem was annoying. Rachel at least was initially thinking when she balked at dating her boss. Meanwhile Trent is set on ignoring all the good advice he's getting about it. And what supervisor is so involved in how an employee gets to work?
Not Quite Crazy is the beautiful sixth story in Catherine Bybee's Not Quite series. I laughed, I cried, and I fell completely in love with this cast of dissimilar characters who created deep bonds of friendship and family over the course of a New York winter.
Rachel Price picks up a stranded man on a snowy road on the way home. As easily has Jason Fairchild appears in her life, things become equally complicated when she discovers that he's her new boss. Between juggling her new role as guardian to her best friend's son, running interference between Owen and his snobby grandparents, and resisting Jason's charm, Rachel has her hands full. Through tragedy and custody battles, she remains loyal to Owen and the promise she made to his mom on her death bed.
I loved everything about this story! The slow-burn romance took my breath away and the way the characters forged lasting bonds made my heart so happy. There were subtle plot surprises in this story that built my confidence in Bybee's writing and by the end of the novel I was sold. She put Rachel through the ringer and made her a stronger character by the end. Not Quite Crazy will make you cry, possibly ugly tears, and smile a big cheesy grin of contentment. The plot continuously pulls you in and keeps you guessing what's next for the characters as they navigate new relationships and life's curveballs.
Even if you haven't read any of the Not Quite series, you'll feel right at home with Rachel and Jason's story! It's one of those instant feel good stories that you'll be happy you shirked weekend plans for!
