What an odd book. The dystopian world didn't really make sense and I didn't find the sex sexy. Plus the end changed tone entirely, as if the author thought 'oh damn, people are really into 50 Shades of Grey, better change the power dynamic entirely to be more like that'. I like this series but this book didn't do anything for me.

Wonderful story! I enjoyed reading Jane and Ethan's romantic tale. Although this is a short read it had the feel of a full book due to the intertwined, flashback, history provided throughout the story. The dystopian setting also provided a good support for the quickness of the intimacy that occurs. Overall, an enjoyable read.

The Breeder captured my attention the moment I saw it, but with a title like that, how could it not? And when I checked out the synopsis, I knew I just had to read it. The Breeder did not disappoint me — it was awesome!

I usually love one of the main characters more than the other one, but I loved Jane and Ethan equally. Jane is sweet and kind and gentle, but she’s full of passion and spirit. I enjoyed being in her head, she was great. And Ethan was every bit as great as Jane. He was commanding, confident, and dominant. Ethan does whatever he sets his mind to, but he’s also sweet and it’s easy to see how much he loves Jane.

The Breeder is a quick read, but it’s full of action, heat, and love. It was sweet with heart pounding, heart melting moments. It’s perfect if you want a fast, easy story with a possessive alpha and a strong, lovely heroine. I really enjoyed The Breeder and I’ll be keeping an eye out for more from Ms. Silver.

The Breeder is a standalone, it’s told only from Jane’s POV, and she and Ethan do get their happily-ever-after.

This short erotica romance is set in the dystopian future where only a fraction of the women can reproduce. Because of this, those who are fertile are set as prizes in a match between twelve virile men willing to have sex with a female (for the first time). As an erotica it really is hot and definitely sex filled, the romance between the two protagonist is a first love scenario so even that was quite believable. The dystopian set up harkens a little bit to The Handmaids Tale but with a happier ending for the leads.

This book was... different.

The setting screams a dystopian movie plot I've seen before, but this one is a little different. Different in that the women and men all grow up thinking that this breeding program is a good thing and they're not being exploited. HA!

So I have issues... the entire time reading this I could not get over the fact that these girls are growing up worried about wheather or not they'll get their period. And if they do, OMG will they be chosen to be this years breeder? Because only one breeder is chosen per state? City? I was not actually clear on that point. Anyway, being chosen is a huge thing. *eye roll* And don't get me started on the men. Men who as boys are taught that if they are chosen to potentially mate the breeder girl, they have to fight to see who wins first dibs. And each month following, if he doesn't get her pregnant, the next buy is up. So, 12 men, all in a fight. Each one picked off still has a chance at the breeder if the guys before him don't succeed. It's gross. It's a look at a potential awful future where we live in a society where people are just batshit crazy and there are probably reasons why women are no longer fertile. And did I say gross?

So, what was good? Good was that the two people this story is about had known eachother as children. They had a sweet love from before that they could never act on. Now they have a chance and this guy loves this girl so much, if he doesn't get her pregnant, he's willing to do whatever it takes to make sure everyone thinks he actually did. And that's... nice?

I don't know. I think if I really try hard and pretend that the society in which this book is set was really totally fictional, I'd like this more. The problem is, I believe that our society could get to this place at some point. I have my reasons and you don't want me going off on that so...

With that, I think this was an okay story. I think it has some interesting topics for discussion. I think I'd actually buy this for some people who I know would like this. Because of that, yea, it's not all that bad at all. It's quick and was perfect for a day when I just wanted to sit in a comfy char, in my pjs, bundled up from the rain and cold, and sink into another world that's messed up as much as the one I'm already in... just differently.

I loved this short and sexy novella. Living in a society where women who bear children are considered gifts, Jane is presented as the Breeder of the year and will be prepresented one of twelve men who wins her hand in a fight to the death. This novel was sexy and full of excitement!

I enjoyed this story alot and felt that her ultimate partner was strong and sexy. I loved them together and would totally read about them in a full size book!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Carina Press for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

THE BREEDER is a short, hot read, perfect for a break between longer reads. The dystopian setting is ripe for wild shenanigans, though nothing really happened. But the premise is delicious and thrilling.

What I like best about this is that for all its shortness, it's quite romantic. Jane and Ethan knew and loved each other when they were kids before they were forced apart, but while Jane thought of Ethan over the years, what she didn't know was that Ethan was doing his part so that they could have a chance together! His determination and resolve are so sexy, and his confidence something a woman could rely on.

What I didn't like though was how the twelve candidates would be chosen. If I were Ethan, I wouldn't have liked those odds, but I think it was those qualities of his that made him believe and forge onward.

Thus the romance was sweet and believable, and minor problems cropped up along the way to provide some tension, but savvy readers would know that these are just small hiccups to their HEA.

This was a quick, sexy read!  With such a short novella (85 pages), I wasn't expecting much in the way of world building, but Ms. Silver did an amazing job of setting up a backstory for the world as well as Jane and Ethan's relationship.

The premise is that, hundreds of years in the future, most women no longer go through puberty, though men are unchanged.  Women who do mature are called "breeders" and are extremely rare.  They're groomed from puberty to simultaneously be the perfect sex symbols and mothers of the next generation.  Men vie for the privilege of access to them by competing in a nationally televised smackdown, and the winner then gets to consummate the act.... on TV.  Afterwards, the winner gets one month to impregnate the breeder, and if he fails, he's shuffled off and the second-place contestant gets his chance.  I know I beat the consent drum all the time, but I was especially pleased that before they had sex for the first time, even though they both knew it was expected of them, Ethan checked with Jane to make sure she was OK with it.  Since the concept itself is pretty squicky (the woman gets no choice in who she has to have sex with, and the previous year's breeder mentions that she dislikes the guy who ended up getting her pregnant), it was a relief   to see that their relationship was wanted.

Overall, this is a fun and quick read!

I was really hoping for something different. I loved this concept, but I couldn't connect with the characters at all. Everything seemed so black and white and I kind of wished there was more explanation maybe a prologue of why the population was dwindling. I also would have liked other scenes happening and even a better fight scene. Most of the dialogue wasn't up to my taste and I found myself skimming at times.

I’m trying to get my thoughts together about this book. I mean, I really like the concept. It’s a great world, and I love the idea that they were crushes when they were younger, and here this guy is, ready to fight for her arena-style. I just wish I felt a little more emotion in the read. I mean, this book was decent, especially in this genre. But I kinda felt like I was on the surface of the emotion, like I was on the outside, looking in. This would have been five stars off the chart for me if I had more of an emotional connection with the main character. I like to be drawn in to a book and forget that I am reading. This does not quite get there. That being said… let’s get back to loving the concept. I’ll definitely keep this author on my “to read” list to see if she can master that emotional connection in the future, because with the type of world she build, I think I could really get into it, if given the chance. Reviewed on Amazon, but it has not been approved yet.

The Breeder was quick and dirty and completely different! I loved the premise and my heart raced along with Jane's during the reveal, the ceremony and the afterward... so many potential outcomes!! And Ethan. Damn. Talk about singularly focused. Took me less than an hour to finish and it was a perfect, sexy AF lunch break read.

This read takes place in a world where females are able to have children. Men compete to be the first with a breeder but what will happen if he wants to keep her? This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama and suspense. I liked the characters as well as the story. A good read.

A quick futuristic love story between former teenage crush. Jane is one of the few women that can get pregnant and every year there is an event in which the strongest man is fighting for Breeders virginity. And Jane cannot believe her eyes when one of the candidates is her former teenage crush, Ethan. In the end, Ethan wins and they have a month to get pregnant otherwise she is given to next men. Interesting, unusual quick story with well-developed characters and a lot of sexuality.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

Certainly an original plot idea with a good story. Thanks!

The Breeder almost immediately reminded me of The Hunger Games except with lots of sex. It was amazing how quickly and effectively the author set up the world and background, as well as emotion between the two main characters, and a sweet HEA. There’s even the possibility of expanding on the characters and world if she so desires. 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

I absolutely loved this!
Crazy world where women are scarce and literally scarce. Tournaments are being held and one lucky guy will get the opportunity of a lifetime in the far future where everything that we took for granted has literally become a dream.

One fight. One winner. One month of uninhibited pleasure. For Ethan, losing Jane isn’t an option. He’s spent years preparing for this battle, for his woman, but marriage and family are a thing of the past, and happily-ever-afters don’t come easy. When I started reading I couldn't put it down I read the book is one day.Lynne is magnifysent writer.I cannot wait to read more of her books.Keep up the great work..
