The first 90% of Delinsky’s new book is a good read. While not especially original, Delinsky’s nice prose, characterizations, and narrative voice make this an engrossing book. However, the last ten percent of the book appears rushed, forced, and just not believable and it spoiled the entire book for me. All of the characters have had a variety of soul searching issues and yet everything is wrapped up much too nicely at the end. Had this been a physical book I’d have been tempted to throw it against a wall in frustration. Life just doesn’t wrap up all the lose ends so favorably so often.
I say this about every Barbara Delinsky book - but honestly, I truly do think she just keeps getting better and better. She has an understanding of human nature that she's able to share in writing that draws you into the story and draws the characters into your heart. I loved this story
This book was so good I didn't want it to end! I will be reading more from this author for sure.
I was very happy to receive an advanced copy of this book. It drew me in right away and I was always reaching for it whenever I had a free moment. Maggie has worked to rebuild her life after a terrible tragedy, but she soon finds herself supporting a friend going through turmoil as well. I found myself enjoying the little bit of mystery in the story line as well as the touches on the various relationships. It was a great mixture and made the story flow easily.
In true Delinsky fashion, a story develops that grabs the reader and doesn't let go until the final page. All the characters are wonderfully developed especially Maggie and Ned. Maggie has '"run away" from her previous life, moving, changing her name and not being close to anyone. But who shows up in her small Vermont town? None other than her former husband who has just purchased the inn where she is employed. The only complaint I have is that the ending seemed to be rushed - granted everything is tied up, but in a simplistic fashion - not at all keeping with the rest of the book.
Oh my goodness, I was so thrilled to receive an ARC of this novel! It was as good as I'd hoped it would be.
The characters of Maggie and Ned were so wonderfully done and just what I expect from a Barbara Delinsky novel. She does an amazing job with characters and descriptions, filling in the little details that make everything work smoothly together.
This book was so good that I didn't want it to end. I started to slow down near the end, but of course, that helps nothing. In no way does it prolong the story. The ending was just as lovely as the entire book and I truly enjoyed the ending.
Strong characters - even those that don't think they are - families, small town friendships and all that comes with living in a small town, good food and lots of artistic expression fill this book from the first page. If that sounds like what you'd like, this book is for you.
Thanks go to Ms. Delinsky, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me an early copy.
This is more a saga type story line. Was not a romantic suspense or romance. I did like how it showed the complete story of the characters life and how she dealt with life
